Crocodile Sophism
A slim crocodile living in the Nile took a child. His mother begged to have him back. The crocodile could not only talk, but was also a great sophist and stated, "If you guess correctly what I will do with him, I will return him. However, if you don't predict his fate correctly, I'll eat him." What statement should the mother make to save her child?
Bonus points- define sophism. (O_o)

Is it possible to give what we don't have?
Sophist: "Yes, greedy man gives his cash with sorrow. However, he doesn't have the cash with sorrow, so he gives what he doesn't have."

What is better - eternal bliss or a simple bread?
What is better than eternal bliss? Nothing. But a slice of bread is better than nothing. So a slice of bread is better than eternal bliss.

sophism is basically the ideology that practicality is greater than morality
there is no universal "right and wrong" in sophism, it all depends on the culture
and as for your crocodile....hmmm....
If I say you will eat my child then you wont return him, but if i say you return him to me and I am wrong you will eat him.
You will eat my child and the king's men will hunt you down and enslave you for being able to speak.
(idk, i tried =p)

A sophist is generally a person who takes pleasure in deception. Normally by being long winded or confusing. I think anyway.
Logically you could say the croc wouldn't eat the child because he is slim wink But on the other hand the infinite amount of wrong answers means that the odds of getting the right one are very low, so saying the croc will eat the child seems like the best way of getting them back? Not really sure, but i like this one : )
Way to answer your own riddle as well there Frog! Eternal bliss. mrgreen

In my honest opinion the answer to your crocodile riddle is:
That the mother should say, "you will eat him" because then, even if she is wrong that is what the croc will do, as stated in the riddle.

The mother should say, "You will take him farther away from me. NOW GIVE HIM BACK" its right, right? That IS what the croc will do, right? Move him farther away? THEN eat him?

People! People..there's always a logical solution to these things... Should you get the right answer, all is happy etc. Should you guess wrong, you just jump in after the boy and blow the croc up from the inside out. razz
WARNING: Don't try this at home, kids.
