Physical Description: Much to her own dismay, Elae could hardly count as the epitome of female beauty. At least she’s skinny, she has to admit. Unfortunately, it’s not the willowy-type skinny that so many other girls are blessed with. She’s actually rather scrawny. She has little to go in the way of hips or breasts. In terms of grace, she’s about as graceful as a drunken herdbeast. She's not really clumsy, exactly. She just isn't graceful.
In order to prevent being mistaken for a boy (this has never happened before, but she firmly believed there was a possibility of it when she was younger), she grew out her mouse-brown hair to her shoulders. She keeps it at that length today, being too vain to cut it, but too pragmatic to let it grow any longer. She firmly believes that her best features are her eyes: a nice green-hazel.
Woo! More character development! Once she recovers from her sickness, Elae will put on weight slightly more easily. While she's still lacking in the way of her chest, she will start putting on some weight in her hips.
Personality: From the time she could talk, Elae was taught how to get along with people. Friendly and open, she’s very outgoing, ready to strike up a chat about… well… anything. Except for the weather. Conversation about the weather is the refuge of those without talent. She’s far more like the follower type than a leader. Rarely does she actually passionately believe in a cause. Mostly, she’s fairly laid-back and relaxed, content to simply drift along in life without thinking too much about something. She’s extremely optimistic, constantly seeing the good sides of things before considering the dark sides. Some people would consider her little more than a silly little air-fluff, but she has a cunning side.
She always thinks before jumping into something. Even as her mouth happily chatters away, her brain is always working, trying to figure out the angles.
She adores gossip. Really. Only Nan surpasses her in her love for this. Elae tends to ignore the probable for the 'possible-and-more-dramatic', which tends to cause trouble for her, especially with those who don't appreciate her prying into their private lives. She tries not to take this personally. After all, it's not like she's doing anything truly bad. In the cases where someone truly DOES get angry with her, she tries to fade into the background and pretend that nothing happened at all.
Mostly, she prefers to be with other girls, since so few boys have an appreciation of what is 'truly important'. But, she certainly doesn't mind male companionship! Boys have their good sides; mostly, they tend to be less suspicious about her probing questions.
History: Honestly, there’s nothing special in her history. Her family was blessed with many children, especially daughters: Elae has three sisters and one brother. She’s the middle child. As the middle child---and a daughter---nothing much was expected of her, and that was just fine with her. She rather expected that, when her father died, she would become the owner of the shop (at least until her little brother was old enough to own it). After that, she supposed she would stay on as an employee, since her brother’s math skills are deplorable. It was either that, or marriage, which didn’t strike her as that bad of an arrangement either.
Unfortunately, there seemed to be a distinct lack of willing young men for the wooing. That was somewhat annoying… but, Elae didn’t bother moping about. Being a merchant, she decided, would have to do.
Then, two years ago, something amazing happened. A gold egg had been laid in the nearby Weyr, and a Dragonrider----a genuine dragonrider!---actually came to the Hold to look for suitable young women. While Elae passed muster to stand on the Sands she failed to Impress a dragon. (After a rather drunken night, she later learned that she never had a chance of Impressing a Gold at all, but that’s a whole other story). But, she decided that this was what she wanted to do. She wanted to protect others from the threat of Thread. Being around so many other people is pretty spectacular too.
