M"ZAJI~
I'll write up a more formal description and shiz later.
M'zaji is 27~ Impressed Kaedrelath at 17, at Southern Weyr. Transferred to Ista within the past 3-5 Turns.
M'zaji has hazel eyes, predominately a warm brown color, with spots of green, a weird goldish color, and blue throughout. His hair is kept short, to a rider's standards. If it were allowed to grow, one would see that M'zaji has curls. His hair is a reddish-brown color, brown on first glance, but obvious hints of red/auburn can be seen in the sun. He's of average height and build, around 5'9" tall and well-muscled from being a rider. He's generally a cheerful person, though occasionally may become socially awkward. M'zaji doubts himself sometimes, too, but since Impressing Kaedrelath he's grown more comfortable with, and confident in, himself.
BLUE KAEDRELATH~
Colored Canvas Egg:
Plain taupe canvas covers this round egg. Ten silver sparks are scattered around the egg like a child's toys that have been played with and then left. It's hard to tell, but there is a slight color shift between the bottom of the egg and the top, with the change coming at the bottom of a band that runs around the egg near the top. Black lines the band and makes squares within it. Eight colors mark the inside edges of most of the squares, while strange patterns are within the rest. One corner has gray horizontal bars, while the opposite one has a figure in blue. The other corners alternately have a boxy red thing and a scarlet arrow pointing to the left, while a line of strange black letters runs across the center of the top.
Egg Inspiration:
It's amazing what kind of useless trivia you can learn if you listen. The famous Hasbro game 'Monopoly' was originally painted on a round piece of canvas, not the square cardboard used today. The point of Monopoly is to simulate the stock market using play money.
Hatching Message:
Silver sparks shimmer in the night as Colored Canvas Egg starts the process of hatching. Rocking back and forth, cracks appear near the scarlet arrow and strange black letters that run across its apex. Suddenly a foot appears, followed by a second. The entire egg falls forward and shatters to pieces as it strikes the sands, taupe canvas ripped apart for all time.
Ebony Depths Hatchling:
Deep, rich darkness of a sky without stars wraps this hatchling in a velvety blanket. Bits of egg-yolk and sand have left silver, wispy tracks like nimbus clouds across its hide. Clinging bits of shell shimmer like moons and shooting stars over its wings and chest, the columns of shadow playing on flanks and belly give the impression of a Hold’s spires rising into the sky on a dark night.
Impression Message:
Ebony Depths Hatchling’s erratic movement across the hatching grounds has taken it almost to the entrance. Seeking its lifemate desperately, it stops in front of a small group of Candidates, eyes glowing balefully red at it examines them. None is found to suffice, and it moves onto the next group. Warbling loudly and desperately, as though calling for the one who it will bond to, it moves away from the rejects and stops in front of a hazel eyed, red haired boy in another group. Could this be the one? A soft croon and a nudge with its head seems to indicate that this indeed is the one as dark blue’s formless cloak is cast into the night, and it gazes into the eyes of its chosen, warbling with glee.
Personal Impression Message:
The heat and darkness of the Hatching Grounds seems to be suddenly amplified a hundred-fold, as you are engulfed in a night that encompasses all your senses. Slowly the dark is interrupted by the golden swirls and bright shimmering blues of a night sky full of stars, which whirl in the sky to leave trails of light for mere seconds before fading back to the inky blue of the night sky. The intense heat dissipates in a cooling evening breeze as your heartbeat starts to race in time with a second and you see the starry sky through eyes not your own. From that darkness a voice speaks to you -- not a call from the blackness, but rather a voice from inside your mind. << M’zaji? Were you hiding from me? It took me a long time to find you! My name is Kaedrelath. >> In the night of your mind, you are joined by another -- the one you have been waiting for all your life.<< Yes, M’zaji. You and I are one now, unique like each of the stars in the sky.>> No more alone in your thoughts, the voice that speaks to you suddenly expresses a need << I am very hungry. Do you think that now we are together, we might be able to find something to eat? >>
Chaotic Starlight Blue Hatchling:
Tempestuous twilight slowly unfurls to reveal a midnight sky sprinkled with numerous glimmering stars, each creating its own unique swirl and eddy within panorama of this blue hatchling’s hide. Amid the pre-dawn light, moon’s lingering shadow establishes vortices within the misty expanse of his cerulean flanks, the patterns dissipating as slate-hued neckridges stand firm against the impending chaos. Crystalline rivers of wintry topaz curve down his belly, the serpentine tributaries culminating in his legs where they gather into an unfathomable shimmering pool of zaffer, held at bay only by the rocky brown escarpment of his talons. Night encases leading edges within its darkened cape but slowly yields to morning's pale illumination, cobalt ribbons brightening in the dew-kissed whorls of his turquoise wings as evening's echo departs in silent flight towards the horizon.
Description Inspiration - The Starry Night:
Kaedrelath’s inspiration came from a painting called ‘The Starry Night’ by Vincent Van Gogh. It was one of his last works along with the more ominous ‘Wheatfield with Crows’. This painting has always been one of Chamynda’s favourites as, to her, it evokes a sense of peace and happiness not often found in his other paintings. Along with ‘Wheatfield with Crows’ and ‘Sunflowers’, it is also probably one of his more well-known works. ‘The Starry Night’ is a very beautiful work of art despite the major issues its artist experienced throughout his life and shows that even in the depths of despair, good things can still come out of it.
Name - Kaedrelath:
As with the other names from this clutch, Kaedrelath was based on an art term. Kaedrelath, pronounced Kay-dray-lahth, comes from the word Quadrilateral. A quadrilateral is a polygon that always has four sides which can be of any length and the four angles must equal 360°. Types include parallelograms, rectangles, and trapezoids.

people/dragons of note~
clutchmates~
Alinaine and Blue Nasynth
Chimerry and Green Caylinth
Meicum and Green Alymeth
Naltia and Gold Merilyth
P'val and Blue Sedranth
Vellai and Green Jolanth
W'rin and Bronze Tazynth
In your early months together, Kaedrelath will enjoy spending time alone with you, learning all that you know. This is good in that it will create a strong bond. On the down side, however, if you can’t answer his questions he will only ask again and again until he feels satisfied with what you tell him. This might include you having to go and ask someone else to find the answer to sate his hunger for knowledge -- no matter what the hour.
He certainly shares Jolanth’s insatiable curiosity, but will spend time with other dragons discussing the whys and wherefores of life rather than nature and exploration. << M’zaji, why are we here and what is our purpose other than to destroy Thread? >> Unlike Jolanth and Tazynth he will never be late to a Weyrling lesson or any other event or meeting for that matter, wanting to learn and not wanting to miss any part of what might be taught. Not one to seek out pranks or trouble either, he will nevertheless go along with something if he feels he might get some enjoyment or fulfillment from it. << Oh, alright M’zaji. If you really want me to catch a fish to put in so and so's bed I will do it, but only for you. >>
Like Caylinth, he enjoys Weyrling lessons and will eagerly take in what he needs to learn, almost like a sponge. If he could manage a hide or notebook and a stylus to take laborious notes, he would. Instead, he will push you to write everything down so that you both can go over it after the lesson is finished. In much the same way as Merilyth, he’ll be almost revolutionary in his style and flamboyancy that marks his attitude to life and that will include the eradication of Thread when he reaches the right maturity and skill level.
You will often find Kaedrelath with Kirienth, enjoying her logical outlook, and he will spend hours discussing riddles and puzzles with her, much like Sedranth in this regard. He won’t like to fail in anything he attempts, and will happily accept advice from those more knowledgeable than him. Knowing that he is only one dragon among many will sometimes upset him -- he wants to be special, and so is able to take solace in the fact that he is the only dragon for you and thus unique to you, even if not to the rest of the world.
Kaedrelath loves to feel the wind beneath his wings, like Jolanth, and is as flexible and agile as any other chromatic dragon of his size and shape. Being of rather normal proportions for a blue, he has one tiny flaw that is hardly noticeable -- one of his headknobs is slightly shorter than the other. He can sustain flight longer than many of the smaller dragons but you must be wary as his energy levels dip, so that he doesn’t try to over-extend himself and be injured. This wariness is particularly important during Weyrling training. Physically, he is strong and heavily muscled but not overly bulky. Strong in flight but rather clumsy on the ground, he tends more to lope than walk in the usual dragon gait. Kaedrelath might seem clumsy and lanky at first and is certainly so in the early stages of life. However, he will fill out to be a very handsome dragon and one that other dragons admire and may even seek to emulate.
Generally he is moody but kind, though apt to snap at someone if he feels wronged. However if he knows the person or dragon well enough, he won’t hold a grudge for long. This could be his nature or due to the length of draconic memory. This is especially true if he should lose his temper with another dragon and then finds out he was wrong to do so, at which point he will try and distract them by asking them to play with him. << I am very sorry I spoke to you that way. Would you like to come for a swim with me? >>
Kaedrelath will always eat the fattest herdbeasts he can find, much the same as Jolanth and Sedranth. During Weyrlinghood he may demand that you don’t trim the meat you bring him very much, as he enjoys exercising his jaws by chewing. Despite this, he won’t always like to get his muzzle bloody. << Now look at this mess, M’zaji! I am going to need a very thorough bathing right away. Please? >>
Kaedrelath won’t ever seek absolute perfection from you like Jolanth does of her rider, as he seems to realize that you can learn from your mistakes. This doesn’t, however, extend to any injuries that you might get from fighting Thread. << That was very silly of us, to try and get to that clump when the other dragon would have been better off dealing with it. Next time we will know not to do that. >> In the fight against Thread he will always want one hundred percent performance, as that is what he himself gives. During ‘Fall he is agile and quick to flame any Thread that comes near him, and likes to try and protect his fellow fighting dragons as much as possible. Kaedrelath will also break formation in order to do so, before learning the hard way that that’s not how it’s done. He is almost overprotective of you and will get very distressed should you be hurt. He hates the Thread as much as any other dragon and will very reluctantly return to the Weyr once his energy is used up, wanting to stay on and finish the fight.
When it comes to chasing a green in her mating flight, he is eager and willing to try anything to catch her, much like Sedranth. It is only when blooding his kill for a mating flight that he won’t be concerned about the mess he is making. Acrobatic, he will try and match all the different kinds of ways the green will try to elude her suitors. That doesn’t always mean he will be successful -- however, he doesn’t fail for want of trying! This blue likes the company of greens above any other, though this is due to mental attraction rather than physical. However, he will happily spend time with the other dragons, giving up a swim on his own if one of his brethren wants to wallow and idly chat with him.
As a Search dragon he won’t second-guess when it comes to choosing Candidates, never questioning his ability to find the ones who stand a chance at Impression. Sometimes he will be almost forceful with you. << That one. Yes, he will do very nicely. Tell them we want them *now*! >> He will also be very protective over those he has Searched, especially if they Impress. << I chose her, of course she’ll do well. >>
Kaedrelath has a passion for life, much the same as Jolanth. He has many things in common with this particular clutch-sib but is more practical and logical than she is and prefers to work things out and plan his next move to the letter, like Sedranth. One thing is for sure -- life will never be boring with Kaedrelath. You will find a new perspective on life with him, and learning new things with him will open doorways you never dreamed existed. He will push you into joining the group and won’t be shy about it. << Get over there and talk to them, M’zaji! They might know something you don’t and that will never do! >> As your bonding strengthens and develops, you will start to realize that the world is full of wonders and you will be carried across the length and breadth of it physically, emotionally and mentally with your Kaedrelath.
Voice:
Rich, vibrant and slightly throaty is the mental voice of Kaedrelath, almost like an old uncle. When upset he gets husky undertones and when happy there is the slight sound of a babbling brook underlying his words. If sad or feeling morose his voice becomes almost like a stringed instrument or the moaning of the wind across an open valley and, when seeking attention, it becomes slightly whiny or peppered with humorous remarks. His physical voice is no less rich, as he often vocalizes his emotions just as openly through sounds he makes like grunts, croons and warblings. He does have a propensity to snore and the little whistles and grunts he lets out during his sleep may be either endearing or annoying, depending on your own mood.
Individual's Inspiration - Vincent Van Gogh:
Vincent Van Gogh (1853–1890) was born in Groot-Zundert, Holland. The son of a pastor, he was brought up in a religious and cultured atmosphere. Vincent was highly emotional and lacked self-confidence and between 1860 and 1880 he finally decided to become an artist. He began his studies in Belgium and the works of his early Dutch period are somber-toned, sharply lit genre paintings of which the most famous is "The Potato Eaters" (1885). In 1886 he went to Paris to join his brother Théo, the manager of Goupil's gallery. In Paris, van Gogh studied with Cormon, met Pissarro, Monet, and Gauguin and began to lighten his very dark palette and to paint in the short brushstrokes of the Impressionists. He decided to go south to Arles, joined by Gauguin. However, in a fit of epilepsy Van Gogh pursued his friend with an open razor but ended up cutting a portion of his own ear lobe off. Van Gogh then began to alternate between fits of madness and lucidity and was sent to the asylum in Saint-Remy for treatment. In May of 1890 he seemed to become well again and went to live in Auvers-sur-Oise under the watchful eye of Dr. Gachet. Two months later he died, having shot himself "for the good of all." During his brief career he only sold one painting, but today his artworks inspire many people and now sell for staggering amounts of money.
Why You?:
Kaedrelath chose you, M'zaji, because like you he is goofy, awkward, and say odd things. But you'll find he has a maturity about himself, older than his Turns, that will be the perfect foil to your outspokenness. He will nudge you into conversations, and prod you gently so you stay focused, opening up your world of socializing with fellow Weyrfolk, riders and residents alike. Kaedrelath will remind you of Janiri at some times, using reverse psychology to get you to do what he wants. You will enjoy spending time with him working out riddles and puzzles, and you may find yourselves becoming good friends with Alina and Kirienth. He is also a little lanky, like you, on the ground, but a sight to behold in the sky as you and he soar over the surface of Pern on his star-spangled wings.
Shattered Depths Flask:
Supple wherhide has been carefully cut, though left as its original rich brown shade, to form this wide belt. Though not dyed, the leather gleams with loving polish and highlights the repeating design of slender needles, stout spools of thread and tiny baskets that have been tooled along its length. At one end, four perfectly circular holes are ringed in reddish copper and brought into focus by the faint outlines of ship’s sails etched above each. At the other end the same ruddy metal has been used in the creation of a sturdy, square buckle.
Parents:
Kaedrelath is the son of Torchlit Antique Gold Isaranth. Isaranth’s dam was Callynth and her sire was Renayth, both are original NPC dragons on SouCon.
Kaedrelath is the son of Rusted Copper Bronze Nezanth. Nezanth is an original dragon on SouCon.
Impressee:
Kaedrelath has been chosen especially for M’zaji, formerly Mozajir. Before being Searched M’zaji was a kitchen worker at Ierne Weyr. He was Searched by Alina, Kirienth’s rider. Now, he starts life anew as Blue Kaedrelath’s rider at Southern Weyr.
