There were many simple pleasures in life that Iroh delighted in. Eating, for one, was a very pleasant experience for the growing cub and he loved every meal time that came his way. If he had to think about it, he would say taste was his favorite sense, just because... things had a way of tasting so good. He wouldn't be able to stick with that answer for long, though, because he really did like a lot of other things, which involved his other senses.
He liked to sit with his eyes closed, listening to the sand. He liked to wander around his homelands and take in all the scenery. He liked to sniff pretty much everything. And he loved the way stretching felt. So it was a hard thing to consider, trying to pick which sense was his real favorite.
Yawning, the white cub rolled onto his back and smiled up at the sky. He was in the middle of one of the other simple pleasures he delighted in. Napping. Tail flicking behind him, he purred contentedly and let his head sink back into the sand. There was a soft wind, and he had been laying there for so long the sands were pushing up against him. It would be a while yet for him to be buried.
But he didn't mind the idea of napping there until it happened.

The all black female peeked her head out of the den her family stayed in. She lifted her head up sniffing the air before taking a confident step forward her head still turned toward the air, stiff inhaling its contents. She dug her claws in and out of the sand for a moment before start a trot forward. Her mother approved this outing. She didn't want to be in the cave all day, and by now her mother knew she always arrived at the same time just before it was getting dark.
She had a while before that this time. The sun was at its highest point, making it hot. She was thinking about going out and sunning herself for a bit, since Zii was sleeping and her daddy wasn't around. With the flick of a tail she was looking around her thinking. What could she do today other than sunning herself, that was good for a while but then she would have the urge to get up again and wander.
AS she looked around something caught her noses attention. She narrowed her eyes to get a better look around her. Then she saw it. It was laying in the sands, and it had the features of another lion. She wasn't that sure of what to think but her boredom pushed her forward. It wasn't long before she was standing next to the male looking at him. He looked really close to her sister, mostly white body. Expect Zii had some color on her. But he wasn't moving.
"Are you dead?"

Iroh opened his eyes, his ears a bit lost in the sand. Had he heard something walking toward him? It was difficult to listen, and he was so content his sleepiness was winning out over his desire to make sure nothing was about to eat him. These were his home lands, after all. What danger could their possibly be?
Then he heard what was definitely someone coming to a stop nearby. He opened his eyes again, tilting his head, disrupting the sand and hearing a voice ask him a fairly alarming question. He grinned, looking at her directly, his soft eyes bright.
"No, I'm alive!" He said cheerily. He pulled himself free of the sand, not shaking off though he had the impulse to. He didn't want to spray her with the sand clinging to him. Always mindful, or at least he tried to be, he sat down and decided he would clean his white fur in a little while.
"Thanks for checking on me, though," he smiled, laughing, "I'm Iroh! What's your name? I've never seen you before. You're all black! That's very cool."

Azar stared at the cub waiting for a response. Her ear listening closely just incase he was to say something very quiet and she was to miss it, she hoped not, but then the male sat up uttering a response that almost made her fly backwards into a dune out of surprise. Instead she just managed a small flinch. But it was very good to see he was alive however. "Good!" Was the first thing that she could think of saying.
Then she sat back on her haunches some she nodded to his thank you before a small smile grew on her lips. "No problem." She chuckled softly herself for a moment, he was very cheery and she couldn't help but to be a little cheery herself.
"Hello Iroh! I'm surprised I really haven't seen you around myself!" She giggled softly before looking up with a grin. "My name is Azar." She said with a nod before cocking her head to the side. "So is my mama! Execpt she doesn't have any marking. You look a lot like my sister!" SHe giggled some. "She just has a black marking on her chest like mine." She lifted a paw placing it on the spider marking on her chest.

Iroh didn't notice that he had startled her, too happy to have met a new friend to be distracted by a flinch. Anyway, he had a habit of shutting his eyes when he was really happy. He grinned broadly, eyes closed, tail flopping around behind him. He opened them when she spoke, his grin fading, but only to an exuberant smile.
"I'm sometimes hard to spot," he said with a knowing nod. It sounded like a joke, by word choice and his tone, but he was really pretty serious about it, "with the sand moving, and my enjoyment of sinking in it."
He tilted his head, looking at the mark on her chest when she pointed at it, "your sister has one just like it, but looks like me? Or is it that I look like a girl? I hope it's not that, though I don't find anything wrong with the way girls look. I just... suppose I'd like it better if I looked like a boy..."
He looked thoughtful, then nodded. That was a sound statement.
"But I like your black fur! I'm so used to seeing red everywhere, it's nice to see other colors like mine. Black or white."

Azar found this males smile contagious, she really couldn't help but to smile along with him. She smiled softly before sitting back on her haunches. "I sometimes can hide on a rock if some one isn't really paying attention." She giggled at the idea, one of her siblings almost sat on her one time when they weren't paying attention. "Some times I can hide in the dark but my ears and chest give me away." She pouted a bit before chuckling slightly.
"No! I didn't mean you look like a girl but I mean she is all white." She giggled softly before nodding. "She is all while like you, same color eyes but she has a marking on her chest like mine, but it is black." She puffed out her chest again before smiling with a nod.
"But I do have to agree, to much red around here some times." She giggled before shrugging once more. "Most of my siblings are red, my daddy is really red. If you like black you should see my mama, she has no white on her, no other colors at all."

"A winged rock!" Iroh said, exuberant, "I'd like to see that. I'm pretty sure I'd notice it, which wouldn't make for much of a hiding place. But it would be cool to see, I think. A black rock with wings." He looked thoughtful, imagining it.
"I can't hide in the dark at all... stars and moonlight always give me away. The only moments where I can get away with it is if someone comes in the den and their eyes are adjusting. The moment they do, though, they can spot my white fur." He grinned, proud, "but that's okay, I don't hide much anyway."
Iroh smiled.
"My family has some interesting colors. My sister is all black, like you, but she has darker stripes on her instead of that cool mark you have. I'm kind of glad to be white, you know? It's good for starting conversations, anyway! I get to meet new people and make friends. Like with you!" He knew it was a bit presumptuous, but what the heck. He was feeling adventurous.

Azar couldn't help but to giggle a bit at the idea of a winged rock. She wormed around a bit a the idea. "Welll~ It works the best when you just glance over then look away." She giggled before nodding. "But that would be cool to see." She sat back thinking a bit thinking about the idea of a rock flying around. She grinned giggling a bit before nodding.
"Yeah, when we play tag during the night my sister normally sits out because we can see her." She sighed softly, she hated when her sister sat out during their games, her sister Zii and her were pretty close and she hated seeing that happen.
Then she giggled some. "All of my siblings are different. Some are black, some are red, and then Zii is white. All different." She wormed around a bit then sat back on her haunches before nodding to him. "So what kind of things do you like to do?

Iroh laughed.
"I can understand your sister's troubles, I really can. It's not easy, being white in the darkness. But my family... we haven't been having much time for tag or any other games recently. My sister is still really sad, and I know I should be too... but I'm so concerned about her, I don't feel right about staying sad."
He frowned, realizing he was talking out of context, and that the context was not something he really wanted to bring up in such a pleasant conversation. He shouldn't even have alluded to his home life, considering how the death of his brother was still so cutting and depressing. He shook his head, glad she had asked a question.
"I like to watch the sky. And listen to the sand. I like to meet new people, and I like to explore. Mostly, though, I like to learn. I think if I listen to everyone, whatever they have to say, I'll keep learning. And I'll be able to become strong for this pride, and serve my family and my friends to the best of who I am. Ha. How about you?"

Azar made a small face and pawed at the male, arching a small brow, curious at that moment. "Why should you be sad... If you don't mind me asking..." Her voice trailed for a moment before she looked down at her paws. "If you ever want to play tag or tumble around," She puffed out her chest sitting up proudly. "Come find me and give me a poke I love to play." She giggled slightly before looked at him again.
A smile started to grow on her face again as he started to talk, they sure had some things in common. She wormed around for a moment before she was caught off gaurd by his question it took her a moment to gather her energy into thoughts. "I like to tumble around, Spend time with my daddy for sure..." She thought for a moment. "I also love to learn. I want to know everything about this pride." She puffed out her chest at the thought it was something that she really looked forward to.

"Oh, well. My family..." he tried to find the right words, that wouldn't be too sad, but were still respectful to what had happened and how he felt to it. It was too difficult, and he just spoke as he ever would, "we suffered a loss recently. My brother, Ozai... he was taken from us. I've heard from a lot of different ways of saying it, but I believe in the end that he's still with us, in our memories."
He smiled distantly, eyes looking much sadder than he allowed his face to fall, "He's watching us, playing with us, I know he is. So long as he loves us," he shrugged his shoulders, glad for the change in topic to focus on.
"But going back to you," he said, looking bright again, as if the clouds had passed, "tumbling is always fun. And learning! I'm glad you like it! It's one of my favorite things to do. I one day hope to be useful to this pride, and to everyone I know, and I think the way to do that is to keep learning about any and every thing you can."
He watched her puff out her chest, raising his paw and poking the mark again, grinning.

Azar looked at him and frowned softly at what he was saying. She had so many siblings but she wasn't to sure of what to think of one of them not being there, she didn't think she would wish any them away or be happy if they were gone... "I'm sorry to hear about that Iroh... My wishes go out to your family." Her ears flattened, she nudged him then smiled softly. Trying to make him feel just a little better about it.
She giggled softly at his quick change back into her as the subject. "Its also one of my favorite things to do. I love learning. I also want to learn about everything, its good to see some one else who feels the same." She grinned at him, she really didn't know that many who also loved to learn, for her it was rare she didn't know anyone who liked to learn.
She giggled when he poked at her marking. She nipped at his paw with a playful growl before looking up at him with a smile.

He smiled softly, nodding. He purred a bit, the sound closer to a coo of a bird than what a cat was supposed to make. He grinned a moment later, shaking his head.
"Learning is something we'll always go! In sadness or in happiness. I think it's because I love learning that I'm able to, you know, not feel too bogged down by the loss of our brother." His 'our' was vague, either meaning his family or the pride as a whole. Really, there wasn't much difference.
"It is sad, but I think we're closer for it. I miss him, but it won't bring him back. To honor him is to remember him, and know he's still with us," he said confidently, flicking his tail. He was sure, in time, every member of his family would be happy again. It was still a bit too new, he felt, for them to feel okay about letting themselves be happy.
For Iroh, however, he felt it was less respectful to continue in sorrow. He knew his brother would want the best for them.
"I think I'm learning right now that I wish I had one of those spots, though. Poking it," which he did again, "is really fun."

Azar looked at him a smile growing on her face. She was getting along with this male she was glad that she went out today now that she thought about it. She nodded to him then sat back some. "Yeah, when I'm mad I normally go out and watch everything, it takes my mind off of things and I learn different things." She shrugged slightly before nodding. "Even if it is the littlest things like that birds can't fly against the wind I still learn something." She giggled looking down at her paws, thinking of the time that she watched a bird try to fly against the wind and instead it didn't get anywhere.
She took her turn listening again she could tell that he was affected by his brother's death, however it made her wonder how many siblings he had. She had seven other siblings, she would miss one they would die but it won't be as bad if she had less siblings, or so she was guessing that was how it worked, she wasn't that sure.
"I'm sure that he is watching you." She nodded nudging him softly with a paw before looking down at her spot, a small giggle escaping her maw. "It isn't all different, A few of my siblings have it." She poked his nose gently with one of her toes.

Iroh nodded, smiling serenely. It was definitely what he held to be true, and it was nice to share it with someone. He looked up at the sky, as if hoping there was a bird up there, struggling against some high up wind. The sands down here were relatively calm, but still. He could hope.
There wasn't one, but it didn't sadden him.
He blinked, then lifted his paw and rubbed his nose, grinning under his arm.
"That's cool! I guess I'll just have to be jealous of you, since I can't get a mark like that now," he laughed, shaking his head, "but that's okay! I'm happy with no marks at all. Anyway, I suppose I should be heading home now, but it was nice talking to you, Azar! I hope we can meet again?" It was an invitation more than a general statement.
