Welcome to the O.R.R.G! My name is S-a-y-y-a, and I will be in charge of recording information about all of the current and future races that exist here in Gaia.

In case you were wondering, I'm one of SilverCoatl's mules. I am a member of a species alien to this planet, the Ayk-hhan, here on a mission to gather information about the world and creatures that live here.

I will be posting all of the races I have recorded information about here as I discover it. Some of it may be inaccurate or incomplete at first, so please let me know if I need to make any changes.

I hope you enjoy browsing our archives!

Guild Note: This is not a requirement for race bases and does not have to be followed religiously but please feel free to use it as a guide and as inspiration

Humans
Home: Varies
The most common form of life on Gaia, these creatures live anywhere and everywhere. They have no natural weapons, but are still quite capable of defending themselves.

User Image

Jokers
Home: Halloweentown
These painted creatures are usually human, although not always. They seem to enjoy wearing strange clothes and pretending to be clumsy, making people laugh.

User Image

Pirates
Home: Buccaneer Boardwalk
These seafaring outlaws are always in search of booty...often magical in nature. Although they can be of any race, they can be considered to be a species of their own, with easily identifiable characteristics and a common language.

User Image

Berserkers
Home: Northern Wastes
A small group of warriors from the far north that wears the skins of animals as they go to war. Wearing these clothes is said to induce a rage in them that no ordinary man can match. Some even say that wearing a skin gives them the ability to transform into that creature.

Humanoids~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These creatures resemble humans, but with a few significant differences. Many have thicker skin, live longer, and grow more hair. Some are different sizes, and some even have fangs. The differences, though, are largely cosmetic - most behave similarly to humans, although perhaps a bit more aggressive.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dwarves
Home: Northwest Mountains
Nearly identical in appearance to humans, but slightly shorter and sporting large beards, these beings live in tunnels they carve out of the mountains. Like human warriors, they are often seen wearing armor, but theirs is generally much more ornate. Dwarven-made armor and weapons are made of rare metals they mine from their underground homes, and are frequently infused with magical abilities, a process that can take years.
User Image
Duergar
Home: Underground
Also known as the gray dwarves, duergar are the evil counterparts of the tough mountain men. They have similar smithing skills, but as they prefer to steal armor rather than make their own, they do not have the same level as a true dwarven craftsman. The dwarves despise their gray cousins, and thus have driven them to live even deeper in the bowels of the earth than they do.
User Image
Orcs
Home: Aekea Mine
Although the body shape of these thick-skinned creatures is similar to that of humans, their culture is very different. They live in caves, love weaponry and talk of creating war often. Their brutish strength and upturned fangs, along with their manner of speech, make them seem a bit...primitive. Their women are just as feisty as human women, however - even a mop can be a lethal weapon if you make them mad.
User ImageUser ImageUser Image
Goblins
Home: Durem Reclamation Hub
Like orcs, goblins are generally considered ugly by humankind, long noses and ears scaring many a small child. But unlike orcs, they are very small, roughly half the height of an average adult human. They generally have a somewhat sour attitude towards other races, especially humans.
User Image
Cyclopes
Home: Mt. Eltran
One other creature that resembles humans is the cyclops. Cyclopes have only one eye, but still somehow manage to walk on two legs, despite their lack of depth perception. They are generally much taller than the average human, sometimes reaching heights of 100 feet or more. They are also immune to fire, so they like to live near volcanoes.
User Image
Trolls~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These creatures also resemble humans, but have long, furred ears and fluffy tails. They have greater physical strength and tougher skin than humans as well, living in harsher climates than their softer-skinned friends. They live much longer than humans do, upwards of 300 years by some estimates. Some trolls turn to stone in the daylight; the reason why certain subspecies of trolls do when others do not is as yet unknown.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cave Trolls
Home: Durem Caves
Cave Trolls are the most common form of troll, making their homes in deep, dark tunnels they often dig themselves. They turn to stone in daylight, so they are only seen out of their caves after dark. They enjoy communicating with other cave-dwelling animals, often sending them on errands during the times they must stay inside.

User Image

Hill Trolls
Home: Bill's Ranch
These trolls are one of the few subspecies that does not turn to stone in the light, and because of this are perfectly happy to build their homes in the open. They are still shunned by humankind, however, because of their "ugly" appearance.

User Image

Forest Trolls
Home: Eastern Wild
One species of trolls that is a bit odd is the forest troll. Like hill trolls, they do not turn to stone in the sun; in fact, because their hair is similar to plants, they are empowered by it. They live in the forest, protecting it from intruders.

User Image

Frost Trolls
Home: Northern Wastes
Some trolls were so disgusted by the humans' reactions to their appearances that they decided to move north. They have since adapted to their environment, their hair turning light-colored so as to blend in.

User Image

Sea Trolls
Home: Gold Beach
One subspecies of trolls that has undergone a radical adaptation is the sea troll. No one is quite sure why, but their skin has turned blue. Some theories claim that they interbred with sea elves, but there is no evidence to support this.

User Image

Night Trolls
Home: Underground
These trolls are the most bloodthirsty of their kind. Like the duergar, they live underground, but some do venture aboveground at night to find prey. Anyone or anything that stumbles across their path is likely to be eaten.

User Image

Storm Trolls
Home: Buccaneer Boardwalk
Storm trolls are a unique type of troll that has learned the magical arts. No one is quite sure where they live, but many sightings have been recorded during hurricanes. They are only seen at night, so it is assumed that they, too, turn to stone during the day.

User Image
PostPosted: Sun Mar 01, 2009 6:13 pm

Elves~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These beautiful creatures are vaguely human in appearance, although that is where the similarities end. They are magical beings, with powers far beyond what any human could hope to achieve. They live to incredible ages - 3,000 years or more - although it is possible they are actually immortal, no one has ever been able to prove this. They also eat only vegetables, fruits, and bread, preferring not to kill any living creature if they can avoid it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Light Elves
Home: Barton Town
These are the beings most people think of when they hear the word "elves". Tall, strong, and beautiful, they are kind, peace-loving, and tolerant, although they can get a bit haughty at times.
User Image
Dark Elves
Home: Durem/Underground
The exact opposite of light elves, dark elves are, in a word, evil. They are the exception of their species in that they like to kill. Fortunately, they live underground, so their targets are limited. The few who do live above-ground are generally much more hospitable than the rest of their race.
User ImageUser ImageUser Image
Moon Elves
Home: Old Aqueduct
There is one race of elves that, like the dark elves, prefers the night, but is not evil. These are known as moon elves. They are as egocentric as the light elves, but tend to be a bit more accepting of other races.
User Image
Sun Elves
Home: Great Desert
The opposite of the moon elves, sun elves prefer the daylight. They are the most arrogant of the elf races, believing that because their skin is golden, they are the elite. They generally use magic as their primary weapon, but are skilled with the sword as well.
User Image
Wood Elves
Home: Eastern Wild
Wood elves are shorter than their kin, but no less powerful for it. They live in the trees, using their magic to build grand villages in the branches. They are adept at hiding, and so are rarely seen.
User Image
Sea Elves
Home: Gold Beach
These elves have adapted to an aquatic environment. Their magic focuses on shapeshifting, which they use to change between webbed feet and fish tails, whichever the situation requires.
User Image
Pyre Elves
Home: Mt. Eltran
Pyre elves are a rare form of elves with mechanical leanings. It is said that they created the guns we use today. It is also said that they are extinct, but no one knows for sure....
User Image
Avarian Elves
Home: Barton Cliffs
Some elves have decided to take to the skies. As a result, avarian elves have better eyesight than any other. They enjoy floating on the breeze, watching land-bound creatures go about their business.
User Image
Christmas Elves
Home: North Pole
The strangest subspecies of elves is the Christmas elf. These elves are much smaller than their kin, so some speculate that they are a completely different species. They enjoy making toys for children, but sometimes they do scientific work, too....
User Image
Fae~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These magical creatures vary widely in appearance and behavior, although all have one thing in common: they love to play tricks on humans. Some of their tricks are harmless in nature, but some are quite dangerous, even fatal.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Fairies
Home: Village Greens
These insectlike beings have many varied forms and heights, anywhere from human-sized to a few inches long. They are the kindest of the fae, although if you make them mad, they will still have their revenge. They are often seen in gardens, helping them grow and protecting them from danger.

User Image

Leprechauns
Home: Bill's Ranch
Leprechauns are short creatures, with a great love for gold. They hide it anywhere and everywhere, and use their magic to make copies of it to fool thieves. They are tricky, yet honest, so if you catch one it will lead you to where a real pot is hidden.

User Image

Changelings
Home: Varies
Not all fairies are beautiful. When a fairy child is not deemed beautiful enough to be a member of their race, they switch it out with a human child. The replacement child is rarely well-loved by its human parents, and frequently ends up on the streets, where it must fend for itself.

User Image

Banshees
Home: Dead Man's Pass
Little is known about the banshees, other than that they deal directly with death. Some say their cry predicts death; others claim it is the cause. Whatever the case, these fairies are rarely a welcome sight.

User Image

Cat Sidhe
Home: Aekea West
Also known as the "phantom cat", a cat sidhe is all black with a white patch on its chest. It is larger than an ordinary cat, and often appears wispy, as though it doesn't really exist. These beings are a rare sight, so little is known about their habits.

Undead~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although most beings, when dead, cease to exist, some creatures stick around. These creatures are known as the undead, and their appearance varies with the cause of death. Some are mindless bodies, wandering the earth looking for their souls, while others choose the path of undeath and so keep their consciousness. They often attempt to increase their numbers, dragging living souls to their side of the veil, willingly or otherwise.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Zombies (inc Grombies and Glompies)
Home: G-Corp
These undead beings have no souls, but their bodies have been reawakened by various methods. They roam around the earth, attacking anything stupid enough or slow enough to get caught, and promptly eat its brains, turning it into a zombie as well. It is not difficult to kill a zombie, though, so long as you keep your distance: a good shotgun blast to the head will stop them in their tracks.
User ImageUser ImageUser Image
Draugar
Home: Northern Sea
These creatures died in the ocean, and they're always trying to drag someone else down to join them. Fortunately, they can't leave the waters in which they died.
User Image
Vampires
Home: Von Helson Manor
Vampires are one of the few undead races that has kept their intelligence. This is because many of them chose undeath, or were born into it. Receiving a bite from a hungry vampire may cause you to join their ranks, although it is unknown exactly how this occurs.
User Image
Skeletons
Home: Durem Graveyard
Sometimes a body begins to move again long after being buried. In these cases, since the flesh has mostly rotted, the resulting undead being is a skeleton. Depending on how they were brought into this state, they may or may not be mindless.
User Image
Liches
Home: Aekea Mine
Liches are sorcerers who have cast dark spells to turn themselves into undead immortals. Their flesh rots and eventually falls away, and the oldest liches have no flesh at all, only bones. Because they cast the spells to make it happen, they keep both their minds and their powers. They frequently use spells to wake other dead beings, forcing them to do their bidding.
User Image
Ghosts
Home: Durem Graveyard
When only the soul remains, that creature is called a ghost. These beings always have their minds; actually, that's all they have left. They usually pass right through matter, but sometimes they can make things move or affect electrical equipment with their emotions.
User Image
Mummies
Home: Great Desert
These creatures have died a long time ago, but were preserved by various ancient methods. They are often covered in bandages as a result of this process, but sometimes the wrappings start to fall off, revealing very rubbery-looking flesh with no eyes and teeth showing. They sometimes have a curse placed on the tomb in which they were buried, which causes them to awaken when disturbed, seeking out and killing the trespasser.
User Image
Drones
Home: Underground
When a loved one dies, the ones left behind often strive to find a way to bring them back. Sometimes they go to Death himself, trying to pull their soul out of the underworld - this rarely succeeds, and even if it does, a terrible curse is placed upon them. They become Death's own servants, slowly dying as they do his bidding against their will.
User Image
Demons~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No one really knows how they came to exist, but they have been around as long as we can remember. These beings are immortal, immensely powerful, and pure evil. They have many different forms that they take, some ugly, some beautiful, but every one of them houses a malevolent soul.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Demon Lords
Home: Otherworld
This is the highest class of demon. The lords often are so powerful they cannot even venture forth from their domain, so they send underlings to do their bidding.

User Image

Lesser Demons
Home: Otherworld
These demons are the next class down from the lords. They are weak enough to enter our world, but strong enough to wreak havoc when they do. Their forms vary widely.

User Image

Gremlins
Home: Otherworld
These are the lowest class of demon. Although they are still somewhat powerful by our standards, they cannot hope to overpower their masters, so they obey them without question. They enjoy all forms of cruelty and happily carry them out when commanded.

User Image

Oni
Home: Northwest Mountains
A mischevious type of demon that lives on the surface. They enjoy using their powers to cause all kinds of disasters, such as famine, disease, and even earthquakes. However, they can be expelled from a region with a simple ceremony.

User Image

Incubi/Succubi
Home: Varies
An incubus is male, and a succubus female, but they both have the same goal. They seduce other creatures to obtain their seed, so that they might have children; seduction demons are infertile. When the female recieves seed, she gives it to the male, who can then implant it in a fertile host. The child, of course, is changed by this process, gaining strange powers or a demon-like appearance.

User Image User Image

Gorgons
Home: Barton East
It is said that the gorgons were once very beautiful, but they angered the gods, who transformed them into terrifying creatures. They have the power to transform anyone who sees them into stone. This power stays with them even after death, so sometimes courageous men will attempt to cut off their heads and claim the power for themselves. Most of them simply add to the garden of statues that builds up outside the demons' dens.

User Image

Harpies
Home: Dead Man's Pass
These creatures have bird bodies and women's heads, and are very ugly. The word "harpy" means "snatcher", and that is exactly what they do - snatch people, both babies and adults, who are never seen again.

User Image

Arachnids
Home: Faraway Land
In a distant land there lives a race of spider demons which can symbiotically live off of their prey, thus controlling them. A few of them have come to our land to take over, but they were killed as soon as they were discovered, so the race has stayed mercifully rare.

User Image

Krakens
Home: Shallow Sea
A water demon with an ever-changing amount of fins and tentacles, the kraken loves to pull entire boats to the bottom of the ocean, where it swallows them whole. It swims rapidly to create whirlpools which aid it in this task.

User Image

The Possessed
Home: Varies
Some demons do not have a physical form, and thus search for someone to serve as their host. They offer all kinds of desirable things, like gold, women, and power, which many people find hard to resist. By the time they've realized they won't actually get any of it, it's too late.

Spirits~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some beings aren't attached to a physical body, but instead to an object or a place. These beings, known as spirits or sometimes even gods, are usually protectors of their home, although not always. They have powerful magic, so it is wise not to cross them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Angels
Home: Otherworld
Angels are the highest form of spirit, but because they are so rarely seen, little is known about them. They do leave a great deal of signs behind them, however: great weapons and garments bearing their name are always showing up, often in the most unlikely of places.
User Image
Demiyons
Home: Zen Gardens
One race of beings, known as the demiyons, has evolved beyond a physical state. These beings are often regarded as gods, and they do not dispute the claim. They love using their powers to toy with the lives of "lesser beings".
User Image
Genies
Home: Great Desert
Sometimes known as djinn, genies are trickster spirits who grant wishes. The way they grant them, however, is the problem: they interpret the wish in the worst possible way, and the unfortunate soul who encounters one often wishes he never had.
User Image
Kitsune
Home: Zen Gardens
Kitsune are fox spirits with shapeshifting powers and magic that grows more powerful as they age. The number of their tails determines what level of power they have, as well as how wise they are. They can take human form, although the younger of them cannot change entirely and often keep their tails or their spirit masks.
User Image
Tengu
Home: Northwest Mountains
These creatures are spirits that take the forms of birds of prey, long-nosed humans, or sometimes even dogs. They were once thought to bring war and hardship, but it is now believed that they are simply protectors of those places, watching over the souls of the dead.
User Image
Dryads
Home: Barton East
These beautiful creatures live inside of trees - in fact, they are the tree, connected to it as its guardian spirit. When the tree dies, they die. As such, they look down on people that harm trees, and punish those who do not first make peace with the spirit of the tree they are destroying.
User Image
Oneiroi
Home: Otherworld
The oneiroi are spirits of dreams, crafting them and bringing them to sleepers in our world. Each oneiros has a different focus, a certain type of dream that they specialize in, from vague surrealistic dreams to terrifyingly clear nightmares. Although some of the dreams they bring us may be unpleasant, all serve a purpose, helping us through our conscious lives.
User Image
Barghests
Home: Durem Graveyard
The phantom dog commonly known as the barghest may look fierce, but is actually more of a guardian. It will still attack you if you invade its territory or make it mad, so caution is advised.
User Image
Tsukumogami
Home: Zen Gardens
When an object has been around for 100 years, it is said that it comes alive. The resulting spirit is known as a Tsukumogami, and while not necessarily malevolent, can be dangerous. Any object can become one, with the exception of modern electronic devices.
Elementals~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Unstable Elementals
Home: Varies
These beings are the elements themselves come to life. They can't really maintain a definite shape for long periods of time, which is why they're called "unstable". The elementals that fall into this category are generally lighter, less substantial elements; for example, sand is the unstable version of a stone elemental, and bubbles are the unstable version of water. The stability level also varies: sometimes you see only the head, other times you see the whole body but only the skeleton, etc.
User Image User Image User Image
Salamanders
Home: Mt. Eltran
More stable than the base elementals, but still somewhat intangible, salamanders are creatures of pure fire. They do generally stick to one form; however, due to their unique composition, they can change color at will.
User Image
Magmels
Home: Mt. Eltran
These small creatures are the essence of cooled magma, and as such show very little of their fiery heritage. They live inside of volcanoes, using the incredible heat to forge weapons of great strength.
User Image
Undines
Home: Gold Beach
These watery creatures appear as beautiful women, walking across the water's surface with ease. As water elementals, they are able to merge with any body of water completely, rendering themselves invisible. Their beautiful voices are sometimes heard over the sound of the rushing water, which entrances any men who happen to be nearby.
User Image
Water Drakes
Home: Northern Sea
The water drakes are creatures of pure water, and can transform themselves into any shape. Their most favored form is that of a gigantic serpent, often with draconic heads and scales. They are not evil, but they do enjoy using their powers, which sometimes results in the death of any sailors who come across them. They are thought to be distantly related to dragons.
User Image
Sylphs
Home: Varies
These airy beings are as intangible as the element they represent. The air around them does affect their own bodies, so while they are usually invisible, if the air is smoky or dirty they do show up. Usually, however, the only way one knows that a sylph is there is to watch the clouds: they love playing with them, making all kinds of unnatural shapes.
