Mudfoot was standing watch.
He didn't know what he was watching for, but he knew good dogs stood watch, and that was what he wanted to be. He wanted to be useful to his pack and he wanted to make sure he was good at whatever job he ended up having. So he was going to practice everything. A lot.
Of course, it was difficult for him to stay focused. His mind had a tendency to wander, and he was much better at playing than he was studying. He wanted to have fun, and he liked to talk.
Wagging his tail, Mudfoot decided there was no need to stand watch. Why take a day so pretty and waste it on something so serious? He'd rather be laughing than sitting around bored. Looking around, he wondered if anyone was around to play with.

Strongear was walking around watching all the others. He wasn't sure where his siblings were right now but he was sure they were about some where.
His habit of watching other came from the fact that he was the eldest of 8 pups, and he took pride in this (even if he was just barely the oldest) he liked to try to look out for them all. As he walked about he saw his youngest brother up ahead. It looked like he was standing watch again. Strongear loved that his brother took his position in the pack so seriously even if they were still just pups.
He noticed his brother wag his tail, it looked like he was going to give up watching for... well whatever he was watching. Strongear crouched behind a rock hoping that his brother would walk towards him and he could pounce. He was in a good mood today and thought they should go have some fun.

The youngest male of the litter, Mudfoot was a bit smaller than his brother, and he didn't like it. It made him feel less capable, which didn't do anything to keep him motivated on learning a skill for his future. Just one more excuse for him to use when explaining why he wasn't watching a hunt and instead chasing bugs. Because his big brothers could handle it, that's why!
Not seeing anyone nearby, Mudfoot's ears drooped back and he sighed, looking back over the pack lands. Nothing ever happened that wasn't expected or good, so he didn't have much to watch out for. Plus, he was so small he doubted he could do anything to help anyone.
Time to go find someone!
He turned from his perch and trotted away, directly toward a large, inconspicuous looking rock.

Strongear couldn't help but chuckle to himself, Mudfoot was going to walk right past his ambush. He was committed to having some fun today, no more just sitting around.
Just then Mudfoot walked right in front of the rock. This is my time Strongear thought. With a graceful leap he bounded over the rock and .... right on top of his brother.
After his laughed slowed down he moved to the side to allow his brother up, giving his brother a quick lick on the nose to show he was just playing with him. "So Mudfoot want to go find something fun to do, I am tired of sitting around the pride." Strongear asked. He would be sad if his brother said no, he enjoyed Mudfoots company and he always had fun when they spent time together.

Mudfoot was completely unaware of the wild dog behind the rock, and continued to be unaware of him as he sailed over the rock. It was only when his brother was on top of him that he noticed he was under attack, and there was very little he could do about it at that point.
Yelping and trying to flee, the smaller wild dog quickly recognized his brother's smell and color, and his heart beat slowed. He forgot his fright almost immediately as he turned playful, barking and trying to free himself. Though he found he was thoroughly pinned. He couldn't get up until Strongear let him.
"I'm game for finding some fun!" Mudfoot said, tail wagging, "I think I've practiced watching enough for today! We can play tag or go find the others, or play hide and seek! I like it better when there's just two people playing. You always know who's seeking and who's hiding."

Strongear chuckled at his brothers enthusiasm, this is why he enjoyed spending time with Mudfoot, he always gave it his all it seemed no matter what the activity was. "Lets play hide and seek it will help us strengthen our senses" Strongear said knowing his brother would like to do anything that could be seen as helpful for a future job in the pack.
Strongear was different then his brother when it came preparing for a job in the pack. He more had the attitude of he would pick a job based on what he could already do, opposed to practicing all his skills. For some reason that just made more sense to him. Possibly it was just because he was a bit lazy, and rather sit around watching others making judgments.
"I'll hide first, if that's alright" Strongear said not truely waiting for a response as he dashed off looking for the best hiding spot he could find as quickly as possible, he had a feeling his brother wouldn't wait to long before he came looking. He decided to hide in a bunch of dead bushes, his fur hid well amongst them with out there greenery. And from where he put himself he was pretty sure his brother wouldn't be able to see him right away but he would know if his brother was close.

"Okay, I'll come find you!" Mudfoot said eagerly, beating his tail in the air behind him. He watched his brother bounce away, mostly talking to himself but not finding anything wrong with that. He closed his eyes and sat down, ducking his head.
"One! Two! Three!"
He wasn't actually sure what number he was counting to, but he imagined he would know once he got there. Plus he couldn't count very high, so if he just kept going he would eventually run out of numbers. But he was sure he would get the impulse to stop before then.
"Four! Five! Six!"
He raised his voice, just in case his brother went too far away. He didn't want to be accused of cheating in counting.
"Seven! Eight! Nine! Ten!"
That was enough! He opened his eyes and started sniffing, not seeing any trace of Strongear. Nose to the ground, he tried to track the familiar scent. He was able to follow it in a vague sense, and wandered near Strongear's hiding spot, but if he was going to find him he would need something to alert him.

Strongear could hear his brother counting in the distance. As he heard him shout ten he knew he was on the way. Strongear peeped out between the branched he was hidden in sure enough he could see his brother zig zaging along the path he must have taken to get to the bushes.
Strongear got excited, he was proud of his brother being able to use his sense so well like that. Strongear wasn't sure he would do as well when it was his turn. In his excitement Strongear forgot to stand still and shifted his weight slightly causing a stick to break underneath his foot. He cursed to himself, he knew his brother must have heard that and it was only a matter of time till he was found.

Mudfoot's head snapped up so fast it almost mad him dizzy. Shaking it, ears flopping, he looked around. He had heard a noise! It was close, too! So he had managed to follow the scent to the right place! Excited, tail beating behind him so fiercely it was knocking him from side to side, he followed the direction of the sound.
"I know you're here, brother!!!" He called in warning, as if something ominous was waiting for when they were reunited, "I'm going to get you!"
He bounced at a bush but it was not the right one. A bit tangled, he whined as he struggled to free himself, pushing out of the twigs by sheer force of will. Panting, tongue lulling out the side of his mouth, he looked around and then, not learning his lesson, jumped on another bush. This one was a lot furrier.
"I found you!"

Strongear let out a loud laugh as his brother landed right on top of him. "You got me you got me, now get up so we can get out of this bush." , Stronear said as he shoved his brother off him. Strongear struggled to pull himself out of the bush. It had been so easy to get in but now all the branches were tangled around him and his brother.
When he had finally made it our of the bushes Strongear turned to Mudgoot and ask, "Are you ready to go hide little brother?"Strongear was kinda worried about having to seek out the brother... unlike his brother he never practiced his skills. He would have to make sure that he didn't give him to much of a head start... or is brother would be left hiding for an very long time.

Mudfoot was a bit caught up in the bush, but he did his best to wiggle off of his brother. His tail got tangled in a particularly grabby branch and he yelped as he tried to pull himself free, scrambling a moment before looking back and growling at the bush. He wagged his tail forcefully to dislodge it.
Once they were clear he shook himself of clinging sticks and leaves before looking at his brother with a big grin.
"I'm gonna find the best hiding spot! Just watch. Well. No. Don't watch, because that's cheating! Okay, close your eyes and I'm going to go hide!" He barked, chasing his tail in a small circle. "I hope you know how to count! I went to ten! Okay, I'm going!"

Strongear laughed at his little brother has he tried to get out, it wasn't that he was happy about his brother being hurt more it was just a little on the amusing side to see how awkward he still was. "You counted to ten really?" Strongear said mildly shocked, he wasn't all that good at counting himself but he was sure if he tried hard enough he could make it to ten also.
As Strongear watched his brother run in a circle chasing his own tail, he prepared his self to count. Closing his eyes he said to his brother, "Ok get going, I am going to start counting. " Waiting just a second to give his brother some time to start running then Strongear started counting.
"One..... Two.... Three... " Strongear actually really needed to concentrate to get his counting in the right order.
"Four..... Five.... Six... Seven..." With the bigger numbers it actually became harder to count. He also proceeded to get louder and louder, he wanted to make sure his brother knew he could count just as high.
" Eight .... Nine..... Ten" Strongear practically yelled. Yes! he thought to himself, he had made it to ten. Now the other part to actually had to find his brother. He began to sniff around hoping he could find his brothers sent.

Mudfoot took off at a sprawling, uncoordinated run. He zigzagged and made a bunch of noise, hopefully to confuse his brother's senses. With a mighty leap he hurled himself at a tree, using momentum rather than his dull claws to haul himself up to a low branch. He would have let out a triumphant bark, but didn't want to give his hiding spot away.
Climbing as high as he could, he curled against the trunk and tried to hide himself away. His brown fur helped, though his splotches stuck out a bit. Keeping himself as small as he could, he watched the floor below carefully. Would it be cheating if he leapt away if he saw his brother coming?
Probably.
Though, he noted, he didn't think he would be able to jump down from this height anyway. As wrapped up in the game as he was, it didn't really seem to be that much of a concern just yet.

Strongear opened his eyes and shot looks in every direction. He had heard his brother running but he wasn't sure which direction. Strongear stuck is nose to the ground.... AHA he thought to himself he found his brothers sent he started to follow it.
It was a hard trail to follow his brother seemed to be running in a zigzag pattern. He was running also which made the smell kind of hard to follow. Strongear continued to follow the sent right up to a tree and suddenly his brother's sent seemed to disappear. Strongear stood there somewhat puzzled.... how could is brother's sent just disappear like that. He let out a small back of frustration. His brother had been able to follow his sent so well.... perhaps he really should spend more time training.
Frustrated with not being able to find his brother, Strongear circled around the tree where his brother's sent had vanished trying to see if he could pick it up again, also eying any bushes that his brother might have hid in.

"Haha!" Mudfoot laughed, unable to keep himself hidden. He was never very good at this game, because he liked to surprise his siblings which, inevitably, led to him revealing his hiding place and thus losing the game. Still, it was always fun to see the look of surprise on their faces!
In the end he felt it was worth it.
"I'm up here, look!" He called, wagging his tail and moving out on the branch a little, keeping himself low. He wasn't too sure of his footing, "You couldn't find me! Hahaha! I'm up in this tree!"
He barked and looked proud, but then one foot slipped and he clung to the branch in surprise. He whimpered as the branch bent down. He dared not move now.
"Uh. So..." he said, trying not to sound worried, "I guess I win, huh?"
