Name: Lahar (Lay-harr)
Age: 18 Turns
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: N/A
Rank: Candidate

Physical Description: Lahar, much like his father before him, is awkwardly long-limbed and of average tone, reaching 6'1" from toe to top. He sports his Mother's light-olive skin and wavy charcoal hair, though his angled hazel eyes are said to be a gift from his Grandmother. His thin mouth is often etched into a down-turned line, hiding a set of large teeth. Large, though proportionate features, define a finely bridged nose and a pronounced brow. He walks with a gait that lacks humility, adding an heir of smugness to his otherwise plain appearance.

Personality: Lahar lives in the present, a world conquered by fact and needs - his own, that is. A take-charge kind of guy who honors tradition and laws, as long as they're prominent values in his mind. This confident and somewhat aggressive young man can be very outspoken, his beliefs as sacred to him as the blood in his veins. Men are strong, men protect their families and their Weyr. Weakness and hesitance are unacceptable - especially when so many depend on you. Despite his valiant disposition, Lahar is somewhat of a verbal bully. He asks questions without a filter, makes assumptions and generally is very blunt in conversation. He's mastered the art of sarcasm, though it's not unusual for him to skip past the playfulness of the act and go straight to putting someone down. This straight-forward and honest opinion of others makes him unpopular with his peers. This activity seems to vanish into thin air when his elders or seasoned Riders are about, suggesting he may be weaker than expected.

Lahar can be rigid, and has a difficult time respecting the values and opinions of others, especially those he deems inadequate. Lahar tends to isolate himself from others unless approached, in which case he feels the only appropriate thing to do is respond and get on with his duties. His anti-social behavior can be attributed to feelings of low self-worth and the belief he has a purpose which he can not attain. A faintest flicker of hope does light his heart every now and then, and he permits himself to probe and explore others for any signs of compatibility - needless to say, his searches have been fruitless. Lahar has an interest in the more "morbid" aspects of life and appreciates scars, battle and blood as signs of bravery and selflessness.

While Lahar seems cold in approach, he does have the ability to be warm and thoughtful - one simply has to impress him first.

History: Raised by a proud pair of riders, Lahar learned at a young age the importance of not only family, but being a worthy candidate. Even as a child he had little time for play; as the son of Brownrider Y'lar and Greenrider Elera, Lahar was required to impress before partaking in even the simplest of pleasures. Be it his morning meal or his evening wash, little Lahar had to earn it, often answering questions by his Mother or taking part in chores. His hands were always busy with a man's work, and he soon learned that no complaint or excuse would free him from his responsibilities.

Lahar learned simple mathematics and history at the will of his Mother, though the men in his family frowned upon academics. His attentions were forcibly directed toward Beastcraft and other such manual labors in his 10th turn. His Father claimed a man's work would make him suitable for a Brown -- even a Bronze if he were so lucky, and little Lahar came to accept his elder's wishes.

Lahar came to respect his way of life, his well-worked character becoming more apparent with age. His mind became sharp with Mother's teachings while his body came to crave a hard day's work, though his heart still lacked a rider's touch. His feats of strength and obedience gave confidence to the otherwise uninterested young man and he was sent to hatching grounds in his 13th turn. Despite his outward appearance and a stubborn father's opinion, Lahar was overlooked time and time again by those who could sense his hesitance. Perhaps he's still a child inside, not yet ready for the responsibilities of a rider. Or maybe he just hasn't found his dragon yet.

He's coming ever closer to his 21st turn, and time seems to be running out for the would-be candidate...

Pets: None

Other/Talents: Lahar enjoys manual labor, he's rather fit for such a scrawny guy and has a healthy work ethic. He's also familiar with beastcraft and tannercraft, though he's never been apprenticed. He can sew up a wound with little difficulty and displays an unsettling tolerance for pain... He has a soft spot for baby dragons, though he'd never ever admit to it!
