A bright streak of green accented the African plains. Upon further investigation, one could see it was no streak of green but a young cheetah cub wandering about on her own. The wind blew and played with the long grass blowing it to and fro. The cub stopped and watched, only for a short while. In no time, the cheetah cub was giggling and swatting at the swaying tall grass.

This was Pilate, a curious wandering cheetah cub, and wander extraordinaire. This cub followed where ever the wind may blow, however, from time to time she did get a little sidetracked by random things and some times other cubs, or a tasty lizard or three. She was lucky to be alive in all honesty with her lacking in a family. Plenty of things that lurked in the wilds of Africa would love to have a lone cheetah cub for a snack. Of course, Pilate was oblivious to such dangers as well as being oblivious to most things in general.

User Image Kupia was wandering on her own, though she knew she probably shouldn't be. Her mom was her best friend, her only friend, and she loathed being away from her for too long. Her mother treated her like she should be treated: like a princess. It wasn't about love, though there was certainly tons of that, but more about sheer attention. Kupia didn't feel like she needed to meet other people, because she had so much love from her mom. She was the only baby, after all.

Why shouldn't she be the focus of attention?

But then again...

She found herself wondering how other people might treat her. She wanted everyone to know how deserving she was, how pretty and refined, and to do that she would have to go out and meet them. So she wandered just a little, and quickly spotted a bright green spot against the grasses that just didn't belong. It didn't look like a lion. Frowning in distaste, she approached the creature fearlessly, any concept of fear lost on her.

"What are you?" she asked abruptly, not introducing herself. She tilted her head, one eyebrow arched curiously as she examined the other cub.

Pilate fell on her back, surprised to say the least, at the presence of the lion cub. She looked up at the gray lioness cub that had surprised her and only managed to say "Huuhh?" Before rolling back onto her tummy. Bright pink eyes just stared as she tried to gather what had been asked. The wind seemed to stop and the grass stood still for a good short while.

"I'm a cheetah," The bright green cub gave a curt nod. This was not the first lion cub she had met that had been confused to exactly what she was. When she had first met a lion cub, she had not known what it was either. It almost made her smile but her face stayed blank and slightly confused.

Pilate got up and stretched a long cat stretch and smiled, "My names Pilate... whats yours?" The cheetah cub tilted her head to the side so far she almost fell on her side again. The wind picked up again and blew the long plain grass above them causing it to sway from side to side.

"A cheetah? Oh," she sounded vaguely disappointed, and made no effort to hide her distaste at this revelation. She had been hoping for something exotic. But cheetah were common. They ran around, zipping too fast for her to see very well, and they didn't have any meaning to her. She had never met one before, but she imagined now that it was for good reason. Still. This one seemed nice enough.

And company was company.

So Kupia smiled, shaking away her judgmental expression, "I'm Kupia. It's nice to meet you... Pilate? That's a nice name, I think. For a cheetah." She nodded, apparently completely oblivious to how condescending that statement might have sounded. Her ears perked forward and she stepped closer.

"Are you doing something out here? Or just playing? Or lost?"

The disappointment did not go over head, However, the condescending remark about her name went out of the ball park. The cheetah's ears lowered some, feeling disappointed as well. Pilate wasn't all the way sure why that was though.

"Oh, nice to meet you Kupia~ Thats a pretty name," Pilate tilted her head, it was a common jester for the young cub.

"I'm just out here.. umm.. playing right now but before that I was traveling, " She smiled, "I'm a great wandering explorer!" Pilate puffed out her chest, proudly, but her composure just didn't fit the image she was trying to illustrate. Instead of giving off a proud and brave explorer, the cub just came across as cute and maybe a tad silly.

"What about you? Are you an explorer as well or something else?" The cub sat back down and stared at the lioness cub with a curious expression.

"You wander and explore? Don't you have a family or something? You can't be on your own, you're so little," said Kupia, who was probably younger than the cheetah. If not, only slightly older. She held herself up like she was almost an adult, however. She smiled at the puffy way the cub tried to look valiant, lifting her paw and poking Pilate playfully on the chest.

"I'm just looking for friends," Kupia answered, flicking her tail. She blinked, the gold over her eyes making it look odd when she closed her eyes, "I don't like to be away from my mother for too long. I don't really play that much, and I don't think I could get lost around here."

She huffed proudly, shaking her head and looking around. She felt like she knew this area pretty well... so long as she didn't wander too far. Maybe forty square feet or so. In her head she knew the whole world, despite the reality not being that impressive.

"I wouldn't mind exploring one day, though," she said thoughtfully, as if she had never considered it before, "is it very fun?"

The thought of having a family was a completely alien concept to the young cheetah. Every lion cub she had meet along the way seemed to have some form of home to return to at the end of the day. Pilate had yet to meet another cheetah cub her age, so she figured it must be common for cheetah's to be with out loved ones.

"No family," The cheetah's composure stayed the same as she said it but she felt a ping of pain in her heart admitting that she indeed had no one to turn to. Part of her wondered what that was like. Part of her did want to have a safe haven to return to when the sun ducked down behind the horizon and the mood and stars shined above. For a brief moment the cub submerged herself in her sorrow, but only for a brief moment. It didn't show on her face but her eyes almost radiated the sad feelings.

The cub snapped out of the blue funk as the other poked her chest. A bright and distant smile spread on her maw.

"That sounds nice. I don't remember my mother much," The cub looked at the other and laughed, "It doesn't matter much though, I am happy that you have a nice mother."

Her tail moved from side to side a little uneasy, " Exploring is pretty nifty," Pilate looked up at the sky thoughtfully, " You meet some pretty interesting others when you travel. Thats for sure. " Pilate pawed at the other playfully, "Its fun for sure, but its also..." The words couldn't form. 'Lonely' was what she wanted to say but didn't.

Kupia chose to look at the sky when she began to realize asking about her family so abruptly hadn't been the best of plans. She coughed, a completely feigned gesture, then cleared her throat and looked down. Chewing her lower lip, she tried to think some something else to say.

What she wanted to say was how weird it was not to have family. She had her mother and no father, but at least she wasn't alone. It almost seemed indecorous to not have either, as if somehow the cub herself could be blamed for losing the two. Kupia, of course, already knew that it took a mommy and a daddy to make a child, and she was certain it was true for everyone.

Luckily she didn't have time to vocalize these odd, snooty thoughts before the cheetah was looking bright again, and the conversation turned to exploration.

"That sounds... okay, I guess," she said carefully, not wanting to look too excited, "I mean, I suppose you get dirty a lot if you're walking around all day. And where do you sleep? Not outside, I hope. I like my cave. Also what?" she asked, once again forgetting to at least attempt to be tactful, "not fun? It can't be the two at the same time. It has to be one or the other."

Pilate smiled, "No I was going to say it was also dirty," The cub lied, but, it wasn't a complete lie. The young cheetah cub did often get dirty. "Nothing wrong with a little dirt here and there if its for fun?" She laughed and hopped up playfully skipping from side to side.

"As for sleeping.. Where ever I can find I guess. In the brush most of the time..." In all honesty, caves scared the young cub. The way they just looked so dark and got darker as you went in frightened her some. That and you had a certain path you had to follow in a cave. What fun was that?

Pilate crouched forward, her butt remaining up high and pawed at the other. "You want to play?"

"Dirty?!" Kupia's nose wrinkled in distaste. She did not appreciate dirt in any form, least of all on her fur. She was loathe to walk through mud or loose, clinging sand, and she delighted in bathing herself inbetween the attentive baths her mother gave her. She felt her gray fur was very pretty, and she was not about to mar it with keeping it unclean.

"I'm not sure I like the idea of dirt. I guess it doesn't hurt, but it doesn't look nice, does it? And if others saw you dirty, what would they think? I want people to see me and think I'm special, because of my pretty clean fur. And then they'd want to know me," she nodded, "and I like the idea of being known."

She blinked. She hadn't really ever played before. She was bound to get dirty. But... the cheetah looked so happy and excited... and maybe it would be fun...

She cautiously lowered herself to a position similar to Pilate's, though she did her best not to let her chest touch the ground, "okay! Let's play!"

Pilate scooted backwards some from the other, "Alright, do you want to wrestle?" The cub began, "I'll explain. The purpose is to pin the other on their back. Who ever does that for a good two counts wins." Pilate nodded, "Or we could play chase and who ever is it has to catch the other." Each of the games she had listed played on one of the others strengths.

"Oooorrrr..." Pilate smiled thoughtfully, " We could go bother some birds if you like. " With that, Pilate rolled on her back and looked up at the other thoughtfully. "What kind of games do you like?" The fact that the other hadn't played before had not caught on to Pilate.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 06, 2009 1:10 am

Kupia listened carefully. She wasn't certain she would be very good at this wrestling. She didn't often do much that might rustle her fur, and pinning someone to the ground certainly sounded like it might put some hairs out of place. Even so, it sounded fun. She grinned, growing more excited by these new concepts of playing the most Pilate explained.

"Bother some birds?" She blinked. She mostly kept to herself, except when she chased little animals for practice. Never birds, though. They could fly, and she couldn't, so what was the point of chasing them? She didn't imagine she could ever catch one.

"I don't know any games. I don't have any siblings or friends to play with, so... I guess I don't really know much about this... you know. Whole thing," she shrugged, trying not to sound too lonely about it, though she did feel that sadness now that she had some context. Having others around was nice.

Feeling adventurous, she leaped on Pilate when she rolled over, letting out a laugh and trying to pin her.

"I wonder if we could combine all three?!" She yelped as she leapt and ran away.

((EEp 0 - 0; I just noticed the tag))

Pilate was stunned and on her back now. The only thing the green cub could do was stare as the other ran from her. It was only a few seconds that the cub rolled over and launched her self after the other, but, those seconds had felt like minutes. She was truly surprised in a good way.

"Hey!" She ran after the other and giggled some. Combine all three, how were they going to do that? It sounded like a good idea though. They could make up their own game and have their own rules. Pilate liked the sound of that.

She dodged brush here and there like a pro as she chased after Kupia. One thing was for sure, the cub was faster then she looked. That wasn't a bad thing it just made things all the more fun.

Finally she was almost caught up with the cub after much dodging and much running.

"You're fast!" Kupia said, not familiar with the basic principals of cheetah. She had heard they were speedy, but it was surprising to see it now, in play. She didn't think she would be challenging her new friend to a race any time soon, that was for sure. But wrestling and tag were still viable options! As was bothering birds. She wasn't sure how they could work all three together, but she knew it would work somehow.

Kupia stopped suddenly when the green cub got close, changing directions abruptly. She hoped it would buy her more time.

"Okay!" She yelled, deciding on some rules, "to not be it any more you have to catch me and pin me to the ground for two counts! Like you said! And then I'll have to try and catch and pin you! I bet you can't do it though!"

She knew, actually, that there was a very good chance that the cheetah could, and would, pin her. And soon.

The game sounded complicated but the cheetah nodded and agreed. How the cubs were to pull it off was above the cubs head. With a giggle she crouched low in the grass and began to count. "Onee two" the little cub began , "You better get a move on. " She giggled again and started to count.
