Black Metal.

For anyone new to it or not familiar with it, here's a little info on what it is.:

Black metal, is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal. It often employs fast tempos, shrieked vocals, highly distorted guitars played with tremolo picking, double-kick drumming, and unconventional song structure.

During the 1980s, certain thrash metal bands established a prototype for black metal. This so-called First Wave included bands such as Venom, Bathory, Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. A Second Wave emerged in the early 1990s, which consisted primarily of Norwegian bands such as Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone, Immortal and Emperor. This scene developed the black metal style into a distinct genre.

Black metal has been met with considerable hostility from mainstream culture, mainly due to the misanthropic and anti-Christian ideology of many artists. Additionally, some musicians have been associated with church burnings, murder and/or National Socialism. For these reasons and others, black metal is often viewed as an underground form of music.

WOW! Those are some interesting facts. I love Black Metal also. It's right up there with Power Metal and Heavy Metal in my opinion.

Burzum(Made by Varg Vikernes Of Mayhem, his solo project)
Celtic Frost
Darkthrone!(Norweigan Black Metal!!)
Emperor(Melodic, awseome guitars, and freaking sweet!)
Gorgoroth(Freaking Intense!)
Immortal
Mayhem(Especially Their 1st few CDs)
Venom(More Rock and Roll, but one of the first bands to have satan in lyrics)
Windir(Actually more like viking black metal)

I haven't heard of a lot of those bands, I've only heard of Behemoth and Venom. They're pretty good though.

Well if you're interested at all, I reccomend listening to..

Windir, "On the Mountain of Goats"
The first 30 seconds sounds like any typical Black Metal song, then at the 30 second mark it's like a kick to the teeth. Love this song!

Gorgoroth, "Unchain My Heart!!!" They have quite a few great songs!

Mayhem, "Deathcrush" and "Freezing Moon" If you look up any of these, make sure you look up 'with DEAD and EURONYMOUS'. Cuz they're dead and we're personal favorites of the band's lineup.

Emperor, "Curse You All Men!" "I am The Black Wizards" and "Inno A Satana" Great songs! The also did a amazong cover of Bathory's "A Fine Day to Die"

Burzum, "Dunkelheit" "Lost Wisdom". I like this band, a lot. Sometimes the vocals are a little crappy but I don't care. This is usually considered to be Ambient Black Metal.

Immortal, "One By One" and "Tyrants". Great stuff!! No wonder they're famous! lol.

Abigail Williams, "Like Carrion Birds" This is a new band, they're pretty sweet.

Darkthrone, "Transilvanian Hunger" A Classic Black Metal song. And "Too Old Too Cold" is a newer song.

Well mainly Varg Vikernes (Burzum) is the only one that really reflects the attributes of the whole murdering, church burning scene. And he actually just got released 5 days ago after serving 16 of a 21 year sentence. lol

But to be fair he only killed the guitarist from Mayhem and burned 3 churches (4 really but he was never found guilty for the last one). lmao
