A dementor is an utterly foul fictional being, the worst creature J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series has to offer (so far). They guarded the extremely high-security wizard prison of Azkaban.
In appearance, dementors are humanoid figures approximately three meters in height covered in dark, hooded cloaks which reveal only grey, scabby, decaying hands. Their breeding habits are unknown, though we do know it creates an odd, chilly fog.
The wraith-like creatures have no eyes. They sense and feed on the positive emotions of human beings, forcing them to relive their worst memories. The very presence of a dementor makes the surrounding atmosphere grow cold and dark, and the effects are cumulative with the amount of dementors present.
Discussion: If you ever met a dementor, what terrible experience would haunt you the most?

Our dearest guild captain forgot to mention that the only thing that can ward off the dementors is a Patronus Charm. The charm works with your patronus acting as a shield between you and the dementor: you conjur it up by thinking a happy memory. smile
|

Aren't dementors invisible to Mugles? then I would probably not even know there is one there... so I'm guesing i wouldn't be able to react to a dementor.

Quite true. Dudley Dursley was all too able to feel the effects of the dementor he couldn't see when he and Harry were attacked in an alley not too far from their house on Privet Drive. I can't remember if that was the fifth book or not... correct me if I'm wrong.

I can't remember if that was the fifth book or not... correct me if I'm wrong. Yes that was the fifth book, in wich they wanted Harry to look like he was crazy. 3nodding

Maybe the time when I got sent to the principal's office.
Yeah.. that's pretty bad for me. I was only 11 then.
And some stuff I'd rather forget which
happened during my highschool years.
And yeah, I'm an avid HP fan too!

heart dementors I shake at the through of them I'd hate to be drained of an positive emotion in my body. if I run into a dementor in my travels I shall run in the opposite direction. heart redface

I looooooove Luna Lovegood! lol when I was little I used to get sent there a lot.... and they used to put me in a dark supply closet called the dark room to scare children. I had ver bad anger issues... and yet I always have been an honor student... lol I had a very weird chidlhood.... I miss it.... suddenly it appears to me more traumatizing that waht it really was..... and dementors can't suck the happiness out of mei!!! Because I am rarely happy anyways... they would starve at my side! unless.......... there is one following me.... ninja that would explain the sudden shivers I get everynow and then when...haha rrrrrrrrright.
