User ImageShe missed spring. It was close - the mare could feel it - but winter still left its mark on the earth, as if trying to claw its way back into the year. With a snort, Nakanadi watched as her breath formed whisps in the air.

"Enough of winter... please," she sighed, pawing at the snow-covered ground. The snow was beginning to melt; she liked that. She could see bits of grass, some fresh, some dead, poking from the blanket of snow, and no longer had to dig until her legs hurt to reach food. A contented smile replaced the impatient frown she'd just been wearing.

Bringing a hoof up, she picked away at the snow, wary of the life that dwelled beneath. She was looking for her favorite snack - flowers, any color, any size... it was always a toss-up. She dug.

Grass. Phooey.

Ever since foalhood, her favorite meal had been flowers, which she had been reprimanded for by other foals more than once. Apparently, flowers were best to be looked at, and not eaten. She scoffed at their case. If they weren't meant to be ingested, would they taste so wonderful? Each flower had its own flavor, and she loved them for it.

A quick shiver shook her body and she turned to paw at another bit of ground, hoping her luck would improve.

"Have they even began to grow yet?" she wondered aloud, ears flattening at yet another miss. The tulips had grown early this year. Granted, they were tiny ones, but they tasted so sweet she couldn't stay mad at them for their size.

Nakanadi huffed out a breath and took a few steps, pawing as she went. It looked to be a long day.

Rhapsody plodded along through the forest on his way to the meadow. He yawned and watched as his breath made wisps on the chilly air. Most of the snow was gone and Spring was on its way but they still had a while to go yet. Winter was not his most favorite of seasons. With everything so white around him, it was even easier for others to spot his bright pinkness. When he was younger, he had despised it even more but now that he was older he really didn't care too much or at least he tried not too. There were times that he would act defensively if someone said something the wrong way but he tried not to be too overly defensive about his appearance.

The pink stallion sighed and looked up. The sun was beginning to peak through the clouds and it looked like it might actually warm up some for the day. That made him a bit happier but anxious at the same time as he wanted Spring to hurry up and get there. His ears flicked forward as he began to hear someone pawing at the ground the closer he got to the meadow. Then his ears picked up a voice that was female and didn't sound like someone he should be worried about. As he came to the edge of the forest, he kept back and scanned the meadow. Sure enough, there near the middle was a brown mare pawing at the snow.

Ears flicked suddenly at the sound of birds scattering, and they seemed to be flying from the direction of the trees. Angling her head a bit, Nakanadi peered behind her, expecting to see only the empty trees and open field. When a large, pink object filled her vision, she was... a bit surprised.

Eyebrows shooting up, she swept her eyes over the stallion, who was standing on the edge of the forest, yet standing out brilliantly. He was very... pink, and very much real, not her imagination. How had he managed to creep up on her so quietly like that? Snorting out a breath, Nakanadi steered her body around to face the newcomer. He was just standing there, not saying a word. Not even a hello!

Her tail flicking a bit, she offered a curious smile, hoping he could see. The silence was awkward; she'd fix it.

"Hi, there!" she called, stamping a hoof lightly. "Come on in! I don't mind sharing the flowers."

Rhapsody jumped a bit in surprise as the mare turned in his direction and spotted him standing there watching her. His cheeks suddenly felt warm and if he wasn't already pink, he would have been blushing brilliantly at being so rude as not to call to her to let her know he was there instead of having her think he was some weirdo watching her. But after what seemed like an awkward eternity she called to him and he let out a slow breath that he hadn't realized he had been holding. At least she didn't sound upset with his being there.

"Umm...Hello." he called back hesitantly as he walked into the meadow. He was a bit confused as to what flowers she was going to share as there was still a good bit of snow on the ground and he was sure there wouldn't be flowers for some weeks yet. But he didn't dwell on it. "Sorry if I startled you. I didn't mean to stand there and stare. It was very rude of me." he said apologizing to her even though she hadn't said anything yet.

Another shy one, eh? At least she had a bit of experience with this type now. After waiting for him to approach, she smiled widely, wanting him to feel welcome. It wouldn't be good to scare off her new company, and the Great Spirit knew when a mare scared off stallions... it was a bad thing.

Looking pleased, she continued to paw around at the snow, hoping to find a hint of a bud. If she could at least discover signs of flowers growing, she would be able to come back once the snow had melted and feast on them first, before anyone else.

Her shoulders rose with a sigh, and, defeated, she turned her head to look at the stallion.

"I lied," she confessed, looking saddened. "I thought there would be flowers here... but there doesn't seem to be any."

Turning quickly, she shrugged it off. "Oh well. I'll find some somewhere else. I'm Nakanadi, by the way... who are you?"

He cocked his head to the side curiously at her search for flowers. "I don't think flowers will be out until a few weeks yet. It's still too cold for them." he said as he moved up beside her to see where she had been pawing at the ground. "Once all of the snow is gone then there will be flowers."

One of his fondest memories from his childhood was when his grandmother and him would go off on walks to would pick flowers. It was something they had done a lot and it was their special time.

"I'm Rhapsody, sorry I did not introduce myself earlier. It is a pleasure to meet you, Nakanadi."

Her smile was bright; it was encouraging to know that he didn't excuse himself and leave yet. Although she had never been dubbed as "annoying," she still secretly feared the day when that would happen, if it ever would. Growing up nearly without friends had bred a lonely mare.

"Rhapsody - that's a lovely name," she replied, giving up completely on her quest for her snack. She wasn't necessarily hungry, but when she got bored, she sometimes... ate. It wasn't a good habit, and she knew she had to stop it, but when one had nothing else to do...

Shaking her head to free it from her strange train of thought, she smiled again, her tail swishing absently. "So, Rhapsody, what brings you around here on such a cold day? Were you going to meet someone?" Her smile softened at the thought of couples meeting in undesirable weather; that was true love. "That would be lovely..."

"Huh? Oh no, I wasn't here to meet anyone. The only others I would be meeting would be members from my family. It's quite large and I don't know most of them." he replied wondering what would make her think he was there to meet anyone. He often just wondered about by himself with his thoughts to keep him company. "I'm just wondering around with nothing really to do or no where to really go." he replied politely.

"And thanks, my father named me though I am not at all sure why he did. Mind if I ask why you are here by yourself? Obviously, you where looking for something to eat. That much I know." he said trying to make it not seem like he was being nosey. He didn't want her to think he had to know what everyone was doing because he was nosey.

Her ears flicked good-naturedly, and a smile broke over her face. "I have a large family, too - I'm the youngest of nine siblings." It was nice to always have someone there, but it could also be troublesome; especially when you were the youngest. "Siblings can be quite a handful, can't they?" she asked with a light chuckle.

"Oh, I was only looking for food, as you said," Nakanadi mused, pawing once more at the ground. "Well... I always wander. I've got this nasty urge to go all over the place. I suppose that's why it's difficult for me to find the same face twice. Tomorrow, I'm thinking of going over the river, although it will be a chore, since it's frozen over and quite slippery." She nodded her head in the direction of said river joyfully, obviously not caring of her own warnings.

"It's going to be fun," she added with a wink. "What about you? Got any big plans?"

He nodded and took in her words. He was only one of two siblings and then he had half-siblings though he wasn't sure how many of them there were. Then he had uncles and nieces and nephews and cousins too. "I am not really sure exactly how many there are in my family. I have a sister and then half-siblings as well. Other than that, all I know is that I have a lot of extended family." he said with a shrug. Some would be upset at not knowing all of their family, he was rather indifferent. He knew the important ones and the others he would meet all in due time.

"I wonder when I am bored back at the teepee and don't want to be bothered with anyone there. I actually live by the river and there are a few places that are not frozen. Though its probably better to cross at a place that is rather than a place that isn't. You don't get wet and your hooves don't freeze that way." he said with a chuckled and picked up on of his own hooves for emphasis.

He really didn't have any plans for tomorrow like she did. He just lived day to day and what ever happened to him, happened. It was kind of saddening to him that he had no plans. "I have no plans what so ever. I just usually go with the flow."
