I was just thinking about online friendships and how fleeting they can be sometimes. I mean, I have a lot of online friends, and some I've gotten really close to, like my "adopted" little sister. But, then, I think about the people that I used to know, but lost touch with and have never found again.
I enjoy talking to most of the people I meet online (mainly because I meet most on Gaia in the friendly, non-a*****e sections...), but rarely do I keep in contact with them for long periods of time. We'll just...lose touch, and a lot of it is my fault.
I mean, there are at least two people on my friendslist with whom I haven't spoken for over a year, and one more with whom I've spoken very few times this past year. Much of it is due to my own issues, I know, as I generally (once or twice a year) lose track of Gaia completely because there's so much going on in my real life.
I guess I just wanted to discuss online friendships with you guys, see what you think about them.

We have known each other for about 10 months and we're still talking
For online, I feel, that's a very long time

For online, I feel, that's a very long time

So it's possible, but not required to happen I agree; my 'little sister' is someone I've known for 3 years, and there are one or two other people to whom I speak on a regular basis. Still, it just seems to me like there are very few times when online friendships are long-term. It almost makes me say 'why bother?' Keyword: almost. I enjoy talking to people, it just makes me sad when I lose contact. =|

Yeah, same here
The contact between Martin and me is getting worse too, but that's just normal with a break up.
Then there was Rob too, with whom I used to be able to talk very well, but now it's just getting less and less all the time. Sort of sad, actually. But it's not that bad.
With people on gaia I find it difficult to mantain friendships. I'm trying to make it work, but meh
Also, to be able to become friends, you just need to have similar interests. I think it's mainly the fact that you have nothing to talk about together that causes the lessening in contact than the fact that it's online.
But that's just my thoughts...

I have several online friends that I've known for years. I've come to consider them like family. I meet a lot of people on Gaia and I'm hoping that some lasting friendships will develop from here as well.
