"You know, the fundamental difference between him and us is that our visions are always true. And no one likes a true oracle because no one likes the truth. His visions though are only what might happen in the future. The future's not set in stone. So he has it easier." Tseen Ke huffed, as he helped his sister stand, the slender but usually sturdy female uncharacteristically weak. He was once again trying to be the voice of reason as well as a source of strength after one of her episodes. He himself wished that he'd never had a vision, having seen what no mortal should in his mother's past... and no longer cared too much for her scrying the present in pursuit of information about their future-seer brother. "The truth is all about you Tseen Ke, if only you'd let yourself see." Passing a bright paw over her face to smooth away the stress, Verdandi tried to compose herself and waved off his attempt to continue supporting her as they started to walk away from the spot they had dozed in. It was temporary, it would pass quickly this weakness, even if the headache she had wouldn't. She only grew weak if she forced her visions. Still it wasn't so bad. She'd barely touched the 'undercurrent' as she called it and seen a flash of a cub that she knew was her nephew but had never met.
"If only you would stop trying to force yourself to see!" He shook his maned head and walked alongside her. While she valued the spirits, the gods, the 'undercurrent' of life they could see in their visions above everything else - he was more practical. Pushing yourself to exhaustion and pain for barely a glimpse was not worth it. Better to forget or wait until a better time. As always, Verdandi inevitably agreed, eager to soothe her brothers quiet rage. But it wouldn't stop her for too long Tseen knew.

 Life went on.
Honestly, it always did. Takatifu knew that much, and was thus hardly surprised when her accession to Pure lead to no real change in her life style. She remain mostly focused on her vision; in Seeing what others could not. Unlike Verdandi, the visions came to Tifu unbidden, during almost every second of her day, and they did not wear her out or drain her strength.
Of course... she paid a high toll though. Takatifu had slowly, in many ways, gone more than slightly insane due to her powers. Then again, no one could really tell, and in a way, it was almost expected, given that her mother was the Higher Spirit that reigned over irrationality... insanity. There had come a time where Takatifu could not really differentiate what she could See because of her powers and what she could See because of insanity.
She treated it all the same though. To her, it was not insanity that haunted her. There was no such thing. It was only the spirits talking; murmuring even while she slept, and due to such thoughts, she found she was never lonely. She always had someone to turn to. Albeit... those 'someone' were things others could not see or hear. It was thus hardly surprising that the day found her sitting to the side of a large boulder, her back reclined against it, her eyes staring into nothingness, lost in some sort of vision. It was only when the approaching lions spoke that the Pure's ears twitched and her eyes blinked back into reality. From her current position, she could not be seen by the strangers, but Takatifu could still hear them.
Needless to say, she found their current conversation to be rather interesting, and could hardly help from pushing herself off the floor so she could peek around the rock, "Sometimes, you can't help but want to See," she called out to the male that was only just passing by, leading a tired looking female, "Sometimes... you can't help what you are. Whom you are. You can't help but want to Understand. Do not blame her for wanting what is just only barely beyond reach," her words were soft, sweet as she padded closer, as if the thought they could hurt her had never so much as crossed her mind.
She was the Pure after all - her life was reserved for the Vates to take when time called for it. Surely the whole Universe knew that.

Tseen Ke was instantly on the defensive position even though it was only a lone lioness and hardly a threatening one at that. They’d been so engrossed by the age-old argument that not only had a stranger appeared from behind a rock but one that had overheard their conversation. Subtly he tensed just a little, ready to tell Verdandi to run if any more sprang from anywhere, but he was also a bit intrigued. The last seer they’d met had been a foolish lion, the one before sounded utterly unaware that what he was describing was a vision and the only other besides those two that they knew of was their lost brother. Had their father been right that there were other Seers scattered across the lands then? This purple striped female spoke as if it were common knowledge.
“Let her See then what comes to her naturally, for those do her no harm. Forcing the visions to come too hard is like a bird jumping out the nest before it’s ready to fly. It’ll fall and all for the lack of patience.” He answered her, rather than asking who she was and if more of her pride – because he hadn’t been so off guard he hadn’t worked out they were near a pride – were about.
“You know what it is to See the spiritual undercurrent? To want to understand?” Verdandi ventured, taking a step forward rather than hiding behind her brother. His protectiveness can in natural response to her usual skittishness, for while she tried to remain calm being beaten for ‘weak’ seer powers all her cubhood had taken it’s toll. Her curiousity was stronger than her fear however and she added –
“It’s such a big part of who I am. The only thing we have of our mother’s are the powers her blood bestowed on us. Tseen though -” She started but stopped at the annoyed look her reluctant-seer brother flashed her.

The male's stance apparently didn't bother her, for all what Takatifu did in response was to tilt her head mildly to one side, as if in question, "You can not blame her for wanting to know more... to understand. Sometimes, it's not what we're given that we seek, and we push forward just a bit too much," then she paused and her eyes hooded somewhat, "There is no gain without pain in this world... it doesn't matter what you seek. One needs to work for it."
Then the Pure turned to look at the female, gracing her with a soft, sweet smile, "The spirits blessed me from birth," she told her, "My mother was a higher spirit. I am linked to the spirits by right of birth," a pause followed as she pondered this for a moment, then continued to talk, "This does not mean that I understand all what I See though. I try though. I can not help it. It's whom I am," a small sigh was released at this point, "I believe that the Spirits' will is always listened to regardless though. If you are linked to them and you can hear them, it is for a reason. There is always a reason," her gaze slid towards the male briefly before she ventured forward, taking the last few paces that separated her from Verdandi, obviously more outgoing than the strangers were (and perhaps than most of her own pride mates, actually), "You are not alone," she whispered, lifting her maw to give the other lioness a caress, like a mother would it's child, or a sister would it's sister.
Perhaps, in a way, that's what Takatifu saw this lioness as; a sister of sorts.

Her paws shook nervously, just noticeable, despite Verdandi’ will for them to stay steady. Takatifu’s caress had been a surprise but oddly, felt right. She recognised a soul like her own, she thought, in the stranger. To work for understanding of what they could See… If only Tseen Ke could see it how they did! And 'you are not alone', it sounded beautiful, to a lioness who'd been so alone for so long. Her brother loved her dearly and she loved him too but they'd been wandering just the two of them for so long, everywhere they went inhospitable or wrong for them - it was like a magic phrase to Verdandi.
“A greater spirit? Is that what you’d call a goddess? In which case, we’re alike in that too. Our mother was a greater spirit too.”
“Verdandi.” Tseen Ke said. “Don’t you think we should find out who your new friend is before you go spilling our life story like… entrails from a carcass…” Tseen Ke puzzled at his choice of words, for he’d had a brief flash – unbidden and painless – of such an image flash before his eyes. He could only see things in the past. Just what had he seen?
It set him on edge even more that seeing the stranger touch his sister had. He disliked not knowing how things were. He didn’t like the unknown. He liked knowing things straight. Entrails and embraces! What next?

Either Takatifu didn't realise how much poor Verdandi was shaking or... well, she didn't mind. Most likely it was the later though, for she graced the other lioness with another sweet smile before taking a pace back to give her some breathing room, "Goddess?" she considered this for a moment, then nodded, "We call them Greater Spirits here. My mother was Muhali," a small smile haunted her maw then, a low chuckle rumbling her chest as she cast her eyes aways, "I've been told she realms over irrationality... insanity," when her eyes returned to them, she rolled her shoulders slightly in a shrug, "The Minders whom raised me when she left the pride, for she's a free spirit, told me that she was quite a handful."
Her gaze drifted towards the male as he spoke, her head tilting again as she considered his choice of words and the mild confusion that seemed to grace his features, "I'm sorry, how rude of me. You're right," her head bowed slightly, the jewellery she was wearing chiming with the movement, "My name is Takatifu. I belong to the Mizimu'Tungika, or otherwise known as the Spirit Bound... I am their Pure," rather than elaborating on the entrails, she had told them whom she was.
However, that was not due to her wanting to hide anything. In fact, nothing further from the truth; the sacrificial rituals of her pride were so common and normal for her, that she didn't so much as blink at the mention of entrails. Takatifu forgot that outsiders at times had trouble grasping the concept, "We are on pridal grounds now, actually. But worry not. We always welcome those close to the spirits or those willing to learn," she looked over her shoulder, motioning with her maw towards the distance, "I believe the bulk of the pride is mostly up ahead, if you wish me to take you to them, if anything, just so you can take a small rest during your journey?" if there was any ill-intent behind her words... then the lioness was doing a superbly amazing job at hiding it.

“Xiu Xiu, goddess, Greater Spirit even, of Sorcery was ours. Our father never told us about her really. Are Minders nannies for cubs or –“ She started, but her brother butted in, gently but firmly. He raised a paw slightly, and his sibling hushed. Verdandi naturally deferred to her stronger sibling. He’d once laid his life on the line to save hers and she knew that all he did was try to keep her safe. But while skittish still, she was excited and so very curious now. Her ears were up, her eyes alert, her tail tip twitching.
“Sorry ladies but before we arrange any visits - and thanks for the kind offer - but what’s the Mizimu'Tungika like besides worshippers of spirits? What do you do besides hunt as all lions must? What defines you? I’m sorry if I appear rude, Takatifu, but my own visions have taught me to look before you leap and since the undercurrent doesn’t seem to want let me look besides a brief flash…please indulge my questioning.”

"Sorcery... that's exciting," she told the female, having apparently already bonded with her, even before voicing her own name. Of course, it was because she felt her soul to be similar to that of Verdandi, and knew that had she grown up within the Mizi, she would have doubtlessly been happier. She sounded... so lonely when she spoke, as if everything were new to her. As if talking about the spirits were rare!
Such a strange, strange thought for someone whom lived in a pride that technically dedicated their lives, literally, to the spirits, "Ah, yes, the Minders raise the cubs that can not be raised by their parents for whatever reason. My mother is sadly... very scatter minded. Her realm would not allow her to stay and she left. My father could not do the work alone, so the Minders help-" she was cut off as the male butted in.
The pale colored female blinked in mild surprise for a moment but soon enough settled back upon her haunches. For some reason, she did not seem offended at all; just surprised that she had been interrupted. After all, she was used to others seeking her out to listen to what she had to say. Never once had she been cut off before, "We worship the spirits. That is what defines us. We are raised and taught to believe in them. Those of us blessed by them are even more aware of the importance of the Spirits. They guide us, and tell us what should be done."
Her head tilted to one side as she continued, "We move from land to land, when the Spirits tell us to, and we live and die according to their wishes. Everything on this realm has it's reason to be," again she motioned behind her, this time with her paw, "The Minders of the pride would surely be able to fill you in on our customs better than I could. Any one whom wishes to join is first told extensively about it all, so they can understand before making a decision," she turned back towards them, her eyes lidding in a pleasant smile, "I am the pride's Pure, as briefly mentioned; my role is to please the spirits. One day... I will join them."

“Sounds alright so far, though I look forward to talking to these Minders. I like to know as much as I can. Call it a personality flaw.” He turned to his sister, obviously relaxing some at Takatifu’s explanation. He placed the same paw that had silenced her affectionately on Verdandi’s paw. He left it there only a moment or so but it was a gesture that softened them both somewhat. It was like him giving his blessing, he supposed. “You wish to visit, so we’ll visit. If perhaps…”
If perhaps the pride was good, if perhaps it fit, if they were allowed to, maybe they’d even stay. It didn’t need saying really because it was obvious that Verdandi had her hopes up.
“Thank you.” She said to him before turning to Takatifu with a smile. With her brother behind her, supporting her, she had a touch of confidence now. “You’ll join them? I always thought that everyone did eventually but then I’m fond of happy endings. You’ll have to tell us more on the way.”

The smile was back upon her maw as the two spoke amongst each other. The Pure watched them with something akin to affection in her eyes; it might have been odd for her to feel such a thing for two complete strangers. But it was in her nature to do so... Takatifu at times, almost seemed to stand out amongst her pride mates for that reason. Such a caring soul, in such a strange place, and she loved it there. She knew Verdandi would flourish within the pridal grounds, if they so chose to stay.
"This way then," she told them as she turned around, beginning to walk towards the near distance, "I will lead you to the Minders. They will be glad to tell you about our customs and our history, if you so wish to hear. Even if you don't decide to stay afterwards... it still makes for an interesting story to hear and tell afterwards in your travels, I'm sure."
She smiled as Verdandi joined her side, "I will join them, yes. We believe we must honor the spirits to win a place amongst them. We must work for this honor," her eyes lifted to the sky briefly, "There is no gain without the pain of work for it after all..."

"I see no problem with enduring a bit of pain and sacrifice to reap the rewards, and what greater reward is there than joining the undercurrent? Or the spirits as you say." Verdandi walked alongside Takatifu, pleased to have someone to talk to about such things besides her brother. She too already thought that she'd do well here, even if it was only for as long as it took hear of their cusoms and history from the Minders. She would never again feel so alone. As much as she loved Tseen and he took the very best care of her...he had never cared for the spirits as much as she did, save to pacify their father, and once Tseen had freed them of him he'd never induced a vision again. Leaving her, once they'd split up with Ramlin, totally alone in it. Here however it seemed everyone cared.
So far all he'd heard about was spirits and actually encouragement Verdandi's foolish exploits. But then perhaps someone here could teach her a correct and safe way to do it, he thought, as he fell roughly in line with the two females. That would please them both because he did want Verdandi to succeed, just not to sacrifice her health for next to nothing. If sacrifices were to be made they should be for something.
Tseen Ke meanwhile wished for something more tangible, more physical, for Verdandi was wrong - he did care about the spirits but he knew he wasn't made for such a paws on approach. He was made for fighting, for hunting, for the flesh-and-blood world not for the realms of visions and signs like she was. If he once had been, well, their upbringing and his past-visions had seen to that.
Which was good, since soon, he'd be hearing about the Claw that complimented the Blood and the Heart he'd heard a little bit about so far. Soon as Takatifu had led them to the Minders.
End.
