The storm mage's brow knitted with concentration as he made his was along one of the least well tended passages he'd had the pleasure to frequent in quite some while... Working for a large house in the West Dark for the promise of a favour sometime in the undefinable future was not how he had truly wished to go about his life, but it seemed to be the lot he had fallen in to... working day by day feeling the skills he had worked so hard to perfect going to waste over petty errands and the smallest scuffles. He was a warrior mage. Skilled both is ranged magical attacks with the shock of lightening and the peals of deafening thunder of the fearsome surface weather to call to his aid, yet the skill and strength to wield his staff as a lethal weapon of combat, the seemingly ornamental design not truly so ornamental at all...
The small skirmishes he faced over packages or payments were nothing to what he had trained for, and he couldn't help the sensation that he was letting his house down by failing to be more active in his quest to return it to its former glory, before the rumours of tainted blood and ties to the surface had had it torn down...
The rumours were perfectly true, of course, but that didn't mean he had to own to them out loud...
Regardless he was utterly discontent with the way things were being handled, and creeping through this partially collapsed passage that ran so close to the surface that if he had tried to traverse it during their day time, the light would have blinded him, was definitely not his idea of an enjoyable way to spend the evening. He would arrive in town later that night, true... and he would find himself a room to sleep in before returning to his own residence (The house he worked for was a good deal closer to the city, but he and his brothers alike refused to reside where they worked) to once more await a request from his current temporary matron. The passage was damp, rain from the surface could run down to it easily enough, as with all the cracks and fissures and general lack of care it had become one of those, officially unofficial entrances and exits to the underground world.
He should probably have done something about it, but he didn't plan to help the G'eld family that fully if he could help it. Sure they may not have been directly responsible for the fall of his house, and had in fact taken out the house that had been... but they'd been of no assistance at the time either, so he felt no affection for them.
He was tall for a Drow, over 6ft sadly which clearly screamed of the impurities in his past. No fault of his own, he would claim, and both he and his over sized brother protested that their own tastes were influenced in anyway by the tastes of their ancestors. To the world they were true Drow, it was only Lird of the lot that held any inkling in his heart that those sentiments may not be quite true... but it was only a notion... a notion that Maybe Lloth wasn't as fair to her people as she should be... he tried not to think about it too often honestly, as the implications terrified him, and hurt his head after a while...
The large scar he had on his chest was bothering him today. It was slightly angrier than usual, so he could actually feel it for once... fifteen years he was cursed to wear it, six years had passed so far leaving him another nine still to face. It was a troubling thought, to be sure. But one that he could cope with... it branded him a Drow of Lloth, which at this point was certainly a credit to him as it would aid his survival...
For now though he was at least distracted, the slimy uneven passage and the twisting turning route towards the city were taking a lot of his focus.

Had he been down this tunnel already?
Szinaun paused and leaned back against one of the small tunnels walls. His pack was empty of everything but a blanket and some questionable mushrooms. They tasted awful and he wasn't certain if it was because he had picked them three days ago or if they were just that bad.
It was so hard to tell! He was blind, but afraid to summon a light to show him the way, much less determin what his surroundings were like. Now more then ever he was regreting his shameful fleeing of the female that had been dragging him around. At least she made sure he had a relatively safe place to sleep. he had food, and as questionable as the 'safety' was around her, at least he didn't have to be as afraid as this. He jumped at every sound and fought just to catch a few moments of sleep. Sometimes he swear he heard things that just were not there.
"Goddess help me." He murmured in a trembling voice as he resumed creeping his way down the tunnel. As he could only hald see in the darkness, he kept his hands upon wone side, and moved with a slowness so he would not stumble and fall again. He already had enough scrapes on his knee's to dissuade him from choosing a quicker pace. He supposed he could call forth another flock of air elementals to help guide him, but the effort of keeping in touch with them was draining when he was so tired and hungry. This had been such a poor idea!

Was that something moving up ahead of him..? Lird narrowed his eyes slightly to see a little better in the low light of the tunnels. You never knew what you might run into up here. Strange beasts roamed the upper tunnels, and most of them were anything but friendly if you ran across them. He wasn't worried, he knew he could handle himself, but at the same time if he could get the jump on the creature then he would.
Making an attempt at least to hush his footsteps, which was no mean feat for someone of his height and build, Lird stole a few feet closer to the other being that was currently a resident of this dank tunnel... it didn't look like a drake.. it looked a good deal more like one of his own kind, but its movements were bizare... it was almost as if it couldn't see. Truth be told there was a little more surface light in the tunnel than he was happy with, but the staggering of the... yes, of the Drow up ahead was quite dramatic... he supposed that something must be impairing the others vision... maybe they had not known how light this tunnel became during the day and had damaged their sight that way... he had heard of it happening, it was tragic...
With a little more confidence now, though not a lack of caution, he still held his hammer topped staff tightly, his hands steady, Lird stole towards the other Drow with a call of "Hey there!" His voice was loud and still tinged with the wariness he was feeling. Mentally he prepared himself to ward of anything the other might fling his way... you had to be wary of anything in the tunnels of the underdark. "What is your purpose here?" He queried, trying to make his tone sound authoritative. It couldn't hurt right..? "And are you hurt? You move as if unknowing of your surroundings..." he didn't move too close to the other. It could, after all, be full deception..

Step by step... Szin paused, frozen for a moment when he thought he heard something behind him. But he had thought he had heard something behind him at least twice a hour since he had started roaming the tunnels. Who would have thought that it would have been so hard to get to the surface?
Perhaps he should have taken a moment to pay more heed to what he thouht was a figment of his imagination. When Lird called out to him, his automatic reaction was a scream. "Yiiiiiiiiiii!" He yelled, and coupled that with a startled jump. Szin was fortunate that the tunnel was mostly clear in his direct area, or he surely would have fallen on his skirt covered butt. Instead though he spinned, staggering back against the tunnel wall, and his green eyes swept down the hall. First wide eyed, then narrowed as he tried desperatly to see who was behind him. Had she sent someone to find him? Who was it?
The questions did not seem like those that someone sent to fetch him back would ask. Then again, it could have been a trick. Szin had not even thought to lash out with a protective spell. Though he did raise one shaking hand. if need be he supposed he could try to make a wall of wind or something to push whoever it was away. "Ah...ah..I... I'm just...exploring..." Oh that sounded as lame as it did miserable. Exploring indeed! With a deflated back pack and attier utterly unfitting roaming any sort of wilds.
"No! No! I'm not...hurt..I'm fine!" That was the last thing he wanted! Szin's voice rose just slightly as he would deny any form of injury. He felt a sense of paranoia that to say otherwise would only encourage whomever had just appeared that he'd be an easy target or...or... "I don't have anything worth taking! Just...go away!"

"You take me for a common cut-throat?" the mage replied with a mocking snort. "If I'd wanted to rob you'd have ceased to be by now, so calm your fears. "I'm simply heading towards the city, this way takes away the need to traverse some of the busier routes..." he was eyeing the other drow with suspicious regrd.
He was strangely dressed for these tunnels... very strangely indeed. "Are you sure you are not hurt? You do not walk like one who is well and nor are you able to fix your sight on me... I am further back than you think, I believe, and also somewhat farther to your own right..." he smiled slightly remembering when a rogue spell had blinded Jar for a while... he'd acted somewhat similarly... "You do... have your sight, do you not..?" He pursed his lips for a moment. "I know there are enchantments that can rob you of it... if you have been subject to one there are places in the city where you can seek assistance for a cure.." Lird moved his way a couple of steps closer to the other Drow. He wasn't sure what he intended to do, but it was more or less in is nature to try to be of some assistance. A mage was usually there for support, and though he had no healing protection ran strong in his code of self.
"You have, if indeed exploring is your niche, chosen quite a poor spot for it.. these tunnels are notorious for cave ins and monstrous beasts for the surface and low ground alike... I would advise you not to linger long if you value your skin..." It was fairly attractive skin as well, Lird found himself musing before he pushed the thought away with a jolt of revulsion at his having even considered it. As effeminate as he was this was clearly no female... what was wrong with him today..? Talking with the unknown and entertaining foul thoughts... maybe he should seek someone to assist in making sure he wasn't the subject of mental trickery...

Despite the amount of sense the other male made with his comment, it did very little to calm Szinaun's fearful heart. Since he had come down into this hellish blackness all he had seen and heard was pain, suffering, and evil. He could not even begining to hope that he would randomly cross paths with a drow that would have more interest in helping him then taking advantage of him. That was why he took off on his own after all.
Hearing the other easily point out his inability to see hardly made him feel any better either. A reason seemed to be logical to give at this point, and Szin could think of no good lies that would make any sort of sense. His lips pressed into a thin and trmebling line as he pressed a hand to the wall behind him and gradually began to slide his steps up the passageway.
"I...have my sight. It's fine. I just..." He what? What? he couldn't think of any way to word it. he could see fine if there was more light? What sort of drow would ever say such a thing?
"I don't need help. I don't want any sort of assisstance from a ciity." How close was he? After all this time wandering he'd have hoped to have gotten further from it. But he did not know how close or far he was now. Still...the warning about the danger of the tunnel he was in was the only thing that gave him reason to pause. he couldn't tell anything of that sort about the tunnel. Were there signs he had missed just because he could not see in this awful darkness?
It would havehelped more if he could really see where the other drow was...it was only by the faint gleam of his eyes that Szin's searching gaze was finally able to determin where the other was...and he found that he was just a bit too close for his own comfort. Again he started to shift backwards with his hand upon the wall. "I'm fine. I...I don't need any help..." Well, he had mentioned the surface. Perhaps this tunnel would eventually lead him upwards?

He did not understand this other Drow at all. By nature there were not a trusting race, but denying such an obvious impairment seemed ludicrous under the circumstances. Without your sight you would wander for days in the underdark and never leave the set of tunnels you had started in. There were so many branches and passages that ran in circles that if you could not see the defining marks left on the walls you would never had a hope of finding your way to whatever destination you sought. He should really have just given in the the other's protests of perfect health and comfort, but he wasn't cold enough of spirit to do so. The blood of the surface was stronger in his veins than he would have comfortably admitted, but it had had the effect of softening his heart to the plight of others in a way that not many drow would feel. Whether he truly wanted to be of assistance or not, it was not in his heart to leave this stranger here to become a meal to a passing drake or surface feline which had strayed. He swung his staff over his shoulder and fastened it back into its strap.
"Come now. Stop being a fool." He stated, his footsteps at last carrying him over to the other Drows side. "There is no loss of worth in needing the assistance of another once in a while, hush your pride and I will take you to a safer spot for you to think and rest. That way you can decide whether you wish to remain a sightless wretch or allow a Drow of the city to try and dispel whatever magic it is that clouds your eyes." Without giving him enough time to really protest, Lird leant down and tucked an arm behind the others legs, pulling him from his feet by the knee's, catching him with another arm behind his shoulders as he scooped him up into his arms. "The tunnels are not a safe place to dally." With that he walked off once again, his own bag hanging easily from his shoulder, his staff resting against his back.
"My name is Lird'yraen." he stated "You may however shorten it if you wish, most people call me Lird." it seemed polite to introduce himself to the drow he had just accosted. It irritated him when people refused help they blatantly needed, and apparently he wasn't above just bullying them into taking it...

It was quite a hinderance, not being able to see in a world that really required sight to survive in. Szin's eyes strained constantly to pick out the subtle differences in the darkness. He supposed that with time he'd become accustomed to seeing in the Underdark, but that would require years and his heart simply would not survive that long. He ached to be returned to the surface, where he could feel the natural warmth of the sun, the gentle coolness of the wind, and breath easily without the oppressing feeling of thousands of tons of rock hovering overhead.
When Lird moved to close the distance between them, Szin did not register it until he was nearly on top of him. His slight body jerked with surprise, and he began to push away from the wall. He had every intention of running, blind sighted or not, the nearness of the unknown male was quite alarming! However, before he had a chance to move his feet and flee, he found himself swept up into a pair of strong arms.
His reaction was not too out of character. Reguardless of the fact this drow kept speaking non-threateningly and sensibly. Szin of course struggled. Squirming his body in the grasp of the other as he pushed with his hands at the shoulders he could finally make out. After so many days with so little to eat...so little sleep...and so much fear driving him, he felt as if he were pushing against the walls of the tunnel instead of against another living being.
"No! No I..." I what? I can't see because I was raised in a place where light filled my life? I can't go into the city because there is a female there that will have me killed for running away? "I can't go back to the city. I...I just...please...you can't do anything for me. No one can do anything for my eyes. Just put me down."

"Calm yourself I am not taking you to the city..." Lird stated, once again startled at the reaction of the slighter male. Though he was struggling Lird could restrain him easily, many years of fighting, training and wielding the heavy staff he had chosen had strengthened his arms a good deal, and the muscles on his shoulders, chest and back to boot. "I'm taking you out of the tunnel, I told you already I will take you somewhere you can rest in a relative safety..." he simply carried on walking, allowing the smaller drow to rest.
"I believe you are wrong as well.." he stated, his voice low, and very calm. "You say I cannot help you, I say that I can. You clearly do not know this place well, and that on top of your apparent inability to see, which I would guess came about in a manner that embarrasses you greatly, means you cannot possibly know where there is safe water and where you will be able to find food... especially without going into the city as you seem so fearful of doing. Tell me, then, if I cannot help you, what you plan to do? What will you eat? What will you drink? And where will you hide if a drake or a giant rat or bat, or worse yet a skaven should find you alone..?" he paused once more, his voice falling quieter still. "I would advise you to let me help you. I will ask for nothing in return and though I am certain I cannot make you believe me I help you out of feeling for your plight... I should not like to be without my eyes, and you have done me no wrong... so thus I shall help you. Whether you like it or not." there was humour to the last of his words as he carried the other male down the passage.
"Now... will you tell me your name or do I have think of something to call you as well..? I would advise you to tell me, I don't have the wittiest mind and I can assure your any name I choose with either be foolish or crass..." you could probably tell from his voice that he was smiling however. Lird was, he knew, abnormally friendly for a Drow, and a warrior no less... but the way he had suffered after the fall of his house and left a mark on him like no other, not even the giant scar on his chest could compare to the impact on his heart that feeling so lost and alone and hated by all and sunder had had on him... he would never subject another to that sentiment if he could help it...

He was achieving nothing. The more he struggled the less strength he had to continue. The other male, Lird, had no obvious intentions of letting him down no matter how he fussed. Inwardly Szinaun felt something waver. He was stronger then this. He was more confident normally. More self possessing. Yet at this moment he could not stop the frustrated tears beading in his green eyes. He felt...such shame... Lifting his hands he covered his face with his palms. His limp lavender hair about his face was temporarily pressed between his hands and cheeks as he sought to conceal the sorrow he struggled with.
"You don't have to lie to me." He miserably responded after such assurances and calm words. Even the humor that he detected he automatically attributed to some sort of falsehood. "You may as well just tell me what your really going to do with me. It's not like I can stop you. Your obviously stronger and you can tell I'm dark blind so I can't get away." He simply had to accept it. His attempt to escape had failed. At the least he could take comfort in the fact this drow did not know his true hearts nature. That would save him from whatever fate would normally have awaited him. Any other he was certain would be light in compare. More enslavement? He'd lived such a way for a long while now. It would be heart rending to return to the possession of another. Either to this male or someone else. But he could not escape now. Perhaps when he grew stronger... had time to recover...if he concealed as much as he could about himself then maybe he stood a better chance...
But it made his heart ache to deny himself. Hideing? Deception? This place was a evil poison that he felt was tainting him steadily. Such was the reason he could not stop the tears from running down his cheeks. "Call me what you will. It doesn't matter." He again spoke from behind his hands. He dared not give his name. That blessed musical name that he had been so proud to bare on the surface. The translation would be taken as foul for the connotations to his Goddess, or in a lewd manner he was unwilling to shame himself in anymore.

“Cease your tears.” Lird stated, his voice still softened with the kindness he was feeling for the others distress. “I am taking you to a section of this tunnel a little further down here. There is a passage that branches off which has been partially concealed by a rock slide. I have stayed there a number of times in the past for some shelter from the dangers of this cavern.” He carried on walking. “You say you are blind dark..? Have your eyes been dazzled by the surface’s light? Or are they simply weakened through natural means in their dark sight?” No matter what this flighty drow thought, Lird was fairly well determined to help him.
“Once we get there I am going to set you down… cover my own eyes and light a fire.” He stated. “I have some meat in my bag which I can cook with some mushrooms. You’re tired, I can tell you are, and food will give you strength.” He fell silent for a moment. “After that if you will tell me your destination I will see if I can do anything about helping you find a route there… I am not asking you to trust me, for our kind is not greatly blessed with this gift, but take it from one who knows what it is to be alone… eat when you can, it’s cheaper that way…” he smiled very slightly, a quiet chuckle passing his lips.
“I am not teasing you though, you have my word that I speak in earnest. If I could do anything to assure you that this boon is real I would, but I can think of nothing.” It would have been nice to be able to prove his intentions were as pure as any Drows ever could be, but he could honestly think of nothing that would achieve this end. He would just have to hope that the other was tired enough to simply accept what he said. “We’re nearly there now… it’s just ahead…”

Szin gently lowered his hands from his face. He had at least managed to keep from breaking down into disheartened sobs. Lird was not acting the way he would have expected...but perhaps he was only waiting to see what sort of treachery he personally possessed. He would be dismayed a bit perhaps, because Szin would have no surprises for this warrior.
Even though Lird explained to him where it was that they were going, Szin was incapable of properly keeping track of where they were. Since he had been lost to begin with it made little sense to the tired drow to even try to keep track of the direction they travled in. When he spoke to reply to Lird's questions he felt the very weariness in his voice.
"Yes. It is exposure to the sun's light that had rendered me light blind." No lie there, no hidden truth either. It was honest enough to make Szin feel clean speaking the words, but he supposed it was not damning enough to get him into trouble. However, his head lifted a small bit following his words.
"Do not bother...just give me the tinder, flint n' steel and I can start the fire for you. The light will be welcome after stumbling around in the dark and if you are, as hard as I feel it is to even believe, serious about not intending to do anything more then help me...it would be best if the two of us were not partly blind down here." Food...He felt his stomach clentch at the mention of it. he really did want to eat...
It was a hopless acceptance ofhis situation that he felt. It would only be easier on him and his nerves if he just sighed and accepted whatever fate befell him. He would simply steel himself for later and what may come. Lird wanted to know his destination? Surely not....he could not tell him even if he did think the other was sincere about helping him find his way.

“I was going to use another method altogether to light the fire.” The mage stated quietly as he carried the smaller drow into cavern he had been heading for. “Regardless of who starts the fire I will need to cover my eyes. The light will be too great for them at first, but I will be able to see well enough through the binding…” it was a special kind of fabric, finely woven of light strands that allowed the keen eyes of the drow to see through it rather than simply being rendered sightless by the binding, or blinded by the light of the fires they needed for cooking.
“You should rest…” he moved to one wall of the cavern and set the other Drow down. A moment later he had crouched beside him himself and pulled the bag that had been hanging over his shoulder from it, and rested it on the floor. A few moments of rummaging unearthed a cloak that he’d been handed by his elder brother before he left. It had been a precaution against being caught in the light in this tunnel; a cloak at least could be used to shield the eyes somewhat. Instead of using it for that just now however, he placed it over the smaller Drow. “Wrap that around you, this part of the passage is colder than most, and it will take the fire a while to warm up…”
With that said he stepped away again, pulling his strip of binding fabric from his pack as well and winding it once around his eyes, tying it off with practiced ease. “You should cover your eyes now.” He stated in a soft, but warning tone as he pulled a small bundle of tinder out of his back as well. “My magic can be a little… shocking.” It was a bad joke, but also true. “In all seriousness…I don’t know what you know of the surface world and its terrors, but the gift of the storm is mine to utilise… I wouldn’t want to damage your eyes any further… so please, cover them now…” he hoped the other had listened to him, as moments later the power he had been pulling to himself slashed through the cavern as a blinding flash of blue lightening which struck the tinder and set it warmly blazing.
A couple of larger lumps of wood which he usually kept in this location provided food for the fire… and soon he was able to sit back and admire his work.. “There…"

Szin did not lift his head, but he felt a small amount of confusion. The drow seemed more like a warrior then anything else. he couldn't imagin him being a mage and having some sort of flame spell to light the fire with. Perhaps one of those gnone tinder twigs he had used before? But...he thought those were a surface world item mostly?
Lird's urging for him to rest gave Szin a bitter feeling in his stomach. Even as he was gently set down on the cave's floor, and Lird took the time to wrap the cloak over him. He could not stop the terrible dreadful feeling that Lird only wanted him to fall asleep because then it would be easier to do whatever he wanted with him.
His green eyes lifted, and watched the preparations that Lird made for the fire. A slaver? That really was the first thing on his mind, after so soon escapeing his previous enslavement. But he didn't see any tell tale signs of that. Perhaps he was just a sadistic evil drow. It would follow suit with everything else he had seen.
Terrors of the surface world...Szin's lips trembled as he fought to surpress the small scoffing sound he wished to make. Terrors...no...this place was the terror! The surface world was a gloarious place in comparison. Heaven really!
At the urging of the other, Szin closed his eyes. His unhappy thoughts were working their way down a frightening path slowly. Though it was disrupted before it got to the worse case scenarios that he felt were just as likely to be. It was only after the sharp crack sounded, and Szin saw the flash of bright light behind his closed lids that he recalled the casual words of Lird. Gift of the storm? So...he was a mage?
Szin slowly opened his eyes. The light of the small fire was quite a blessing, as it's warm beautiful aura allowed him to see far more clearly now where they were. His eyes moved towards Lird, his dubious benefactor...and he blinked. In the dark he had not seen the terrible scar the other wore..but now...
Worshippers of the Lloth goddess were a terrible and deranged group of lost souls. He simply could not imagin a Goddess approving of such self mutilation just to honor her! With a tiny shake of his head, Szin drew the cloak tightly around himself. Was that what he was going to do? Was he going to mutilate him as well? Such a horror....

"Not the talkative kind, huh..?" Lird queried as he began the next task of preparing some food. He supposed he could rest here for now as well, Ariadne's errand would probably wait till the next day, she would probably have forgotten he'd even been sent on it by now and sent someone else, she did that... he and his brothers meant little to her. He placed the meat in the pan, and the mushrooms he had as well and set to cooking them. After a while he paused, a thought occurring to him as he reaching into a pocket of his bag and pulled out a small bag. It contained something that he had found he loved in the time he spent on the surface world, honing and training his magic. It was a bag of spices. Rich green herbs, Parsley and Oregano. Hot red paprika and fragrant rosemary. He only knew the names because a trader had told him them as he mixed the herbs together. It greatly improved the bitter taste of the food of the underground.
He didn't use the spices too often as they were pricey, and also he wasn't certain he should honestly have them... but he did enjoy them.. and he partly hoped that nicer food may serve as a boon to his rather... stoic companion. He knew that he would be able to uncover his eyes in an hour or so... a muttered charm would become effective then and allow him to face the light for a time. He used it to be able to use his magic in combat with no risks. Usually though he carried goggles with him.
"I guess I can talk enough for both of us... I am supposed to be running an errand... nothing important though, and I am quite willing to accept the fact you don't trust me, though I would give a good deal to know why. Un-trusting people usually have interesting stories." he paused for a moment to simply poke their dinner around the pan. "Its meagre fare, I apologise." he stated. "I wasn't expecting to cook for two."
A little later after falling silent once more he pulled plate out of his bag as well, and moved the larger part of the meat and mushrooms from the pan onto it. The plate he then set down beside Szin. He moved away and settled himself in the darker shadows on the other side of the cavern, slowly removing the wrap from his eyes and blinking for a moment, his eyes resting in a squint as he picked a few items of food up from the pan with his fingers to eat them.
