Ishizuke huffed as she looked at the horizon. She had wanted to go out to the observatory attached to Juno's lab, but the man had refused her requests, as he had frequently done since the unfortunate incident with Leviathan, the attack, and the Mace. The man barely spoke to her anymore, unless it was to foist some new injection on her. Not that...not that Ishizuke was sure this wasn't a bad thing. Juno, frankly, still terrified her down to the very fiber of her being. But hell if she wasn't going to stay until he had cured her like he promised he would.
So if she couldn't see the sky that way, she'd find some other goddamn way to do it. Grumbling, she adjusted the small telescope (why Juno actually had a telescope, she wasn't sure. He hated and any related branches of science, astronomy included) and picked up her notebook and the little lexicon of constellations she had found going through the boxes of old books left in the room that Juno had given her and Angelique for their stay. Grumbling some more, she peered through the eyepiece, sighed, and made some adjustments.
...She was at the top of a hill in the park, it was kind of windy and definitely cold, and she was staring through a little glass tube at the sky. "God, I have no life," she said sourly. Not that that was a surprise.

Orli wandered freely in the night. Stars, it seemed, didn't need much sleep. She slipped out every night after dinner and roamed the streets of Durem on her own. Despite her small size, she carried herself with confidence and no one ever tried to bother her. Perhaps they wondered if she was an extremely small adult. Stranger things had happened.
Some nights, she got as far as the park. This was one of those nights. She ascended the hill and plopped down on the cold grass. She scratched idly at her leg and adjusted her goggles. She looked up at the sky - cold nights seemed to make them shine more crisply than usual.
"God, I have no life," she heard someone lament from nearby.
"You and me both," agreed Orli, nodding in response.

The sound of someone agreeing with her made Ishizuke glance up. She had ignored the sound of someone climbing the hill and sitting down, but if they were going to talk to her, she supposed she really had no choice at all but to answer. And she couldn't help but smile just a little bit at the person she saw sitting beside her. She might not have actually recognized her but for the faint aura about her. While Ishizuke's skin tended to make her stand out like a lamp in even the faintest lights, she had only ever met one person who produced her own light.
"....Hey," she said quietly. "Orli?"

Orli looked over at the other person and grinned slyly. "Yup," she said, tweaking her goggles. She concentrated for a moment, remembering something from a long time ago. "...Ishi?" she asked.
Yup. Definitely Ishi. She broke into a wider grin.
"Nice surprise seeing you here," she declared. She pointed up at the sky. "You here to stargaze, too?" she asked.

"Hey," Ishi said happily, turning fully away from her telescope and looking at Orli. The question made her pause and shrug. "...Guess you could say that," she answered, then shrugged. "I needed something to do, and the man watching me had a telescope laying around. It got me out of the house."
She shrugged and then glanced up at the sky. Stars were interesting enough, but at least now she had conversation. The sky could wait. "What're you doing out here?" she asked.

"Watching the evening news," shrugged Orli with just a hint of sarcasm. She laughed. "I'm doing the same thing you're doing. I needed to get out. My sister's been moping around the house, and I share a room with her, and I don't sleep much. So I came out here."
"The weather this time of year is really nice for stargazing," she said. "I think cold nights are best for it. All the smog and clouds fall out of the air and the sky winds up totally clear."
She was feeling kind of oddly poetic.

Orli was right about the cold; in general, the skies were clearer and the stars sharper in vision, not that Ishi really spent much time stargazing. "Yeah, that's about right," she said vaguely, peering through the telescope and then shaking her head. "Honestly, I don't like the cold much." She plucked at her coat and shook her head.
"Can't wait for it to really start getting warm," she said with a brief nod. "I like the way the air feels when everything's finally thawing for spring. It smell nice." Then she shrugged again and sighed softly, staring up at the sky and waiting to think of something more to say. She wasn't feeling particularly conversational at the moment, that was sure.

Orli shrugged. "I don't mind the cold," she said, which was apparent because she was wearing only the lightest of jackets and didn't seem chilled. In fact, she'd been feeling a bit perpetually feverish lately, though not exactly sick. She wasn't sure why.
"I was really little this time last year," she shrugged, "So I barely remember it. This is almost like my first winter all over again."

"Lucky you," Ishi answered, not rude, simply quiet. In reality, she was rather jealous that Orli could brave the cold better than she did. But like she had said, it wasn't necessarily the cold she disliked; she just wanted spring back. The smell of fresh earth and growing plants was a nice one, especially when everything was just drying off after melt.
"I don't remember a whole lot about last winter, either," she said with a nod. "Mostly, I remember snow and liking it." She made a face, clearly implying how she felt about snow this time around.

"A year makes a big difference," nodded Orli, and scooted closer to Ishi. In addition to light, her body seemed to be radiating a bit of heat, as well. She smiled.
"So, what have you been doing since I saw you last?"
