アメリカ人ですけど、日本語が習う。先生がいません．．．自習です。

I don't think it's Gaia, but your browser that interprets the character coding.
I had to change it to Unicode before I could see the Japanese text.

Yeah, if you wanna see it (and are using firefox) go into view->character encoding and fiddle around with those until it works xD.
But then again, you might not have the fonts sweatdrop

Japanese is so cool! I really want to learn how to speak it. I can say several different things in Japanese.
