It was just another cool day as Ame roamed the forests again. It was possible he had been around her before.. But he wouldn't have known, even if you had told him he had been there. Letting his tail drag on the floor, it became decorated with bits of dirt here and there. Twigs and leaves would eventually get stuck as well, but as he continued to walk around. It would slip off sooner or later. It was a nice day. Cool breeze, sun ever so shining. One could say it was like the perfect day.

And what could make this day even more better? How about a little company? Well, Ame had that. He had met a mare not to long ago. Padma was her name.. Well, that was actually a nick name. However, he had no idea why she was sticking around. Last he remembered, she had run away from him. He couldn't even remember when she came around again. He also didn't know why she was hanging around him. She always seemed to be asking him stuff.. And when he'd answer he seemed to get mad at him. But he didn't know know why. He didn't like when others were angry at him.

He gave her a look. There she was, following him. He did admire her markings, and think she was pretty. But that's all he thought. His mind only worked in the obvious manner. We all knew what Padma was trying to do.. But him.. He just thought she was being friendly and nice. Not that she wanted him as a boyfriend. 'What was this.. boyfriend..?' is exactly what he would think. Padma could try all she wanted to explain it.. He would only come to some random conclusion. Friends, family, that's all he would think of.

So, how would she explain anything to him? Good question~

Padma followed after Ame. Her mood wasn't really a proper huff. It was a bit too focused, a bit too directed to be that. It was a huff... with purpose! Today was going to be the day that Ame finally understood. Today. He couldn't really be that thickheaded.

Or maybe he could. After some amount of travel with Ame, Padma was starting to discovered exactly how thickheaded he was, and that was very. She had given up on any attempts at being subtle. Subtly was utterly lost on her silver stallion. Coy looks were misinterpreted as friendly glances and she had never been skillful enough at any sort of seduction to get past whatever it was that fogged his eyes and mind.

Still, she tried. She followed after him and tried to get him to notice her in the way she wanted. He thought that her markings was pretty. Where was she going to find another stallion like that? Not to mention a stallion with as thick a white mane... or as shining silver eyes and coat... and the soft golden swirls that marked him...

She shook her head sharply. She would have none of that distraction. She was quite aware of her own feelings. It was time to make him aware of his... or aware of hers, at least.

"Ame!" She rushed to catch up with him. "Ame! I want to talk to you about something!"

Ame couldn't help but look at Padma every now and then. There wasn't much conversation going on with the two. It was just company so far. And that was all he really needed. With that, Padma began to speak. Catching up to him, she seemed to want to talk about something. He just smiled at her. Finally they would talk about something. Not that he minded the silence, but talking could always be better. He looked at her charmingly before he said anything in return.

"Yeah?" He asked.

He had no idea what she wanted to talk about. It could be anything. But it was hopefully something that wouldn't confuse him. She would somtimes talk about those kinda things.. And he wouldn't know how to answer, or why she would react to his answer. Then again.. She talked about that sort of stuff all the time. However, he was sure he would understand something sooner or later. He could be so oblivious FOREVR.. Could he? Oh jeez, lets hope not. Haha.

The look that Ame gave her almost derailed Padma completely. He was thickheaded... but he had a thickheaded sort of innocence about him that always threatened to suck her in. If she hadn't been so determined to have this conversation she could have easily let that distract her into oblivion.

"Ame," she repeated as she caught up enough with him to begin walking evenly. "I think that... well..." She knew what she wanted to talk about but hadn't thought to decide how exactly she was going to go about it. She gathered her thoughts for a moment and then continued.

"I think that you have a problem. The problem is that you don't know everything. You don't know some things that you ought to know." There. That was a decent start, wasn't it? Heartened by this, she went on. "You really should have learned it by now... but you haven't. You... you don't know what a 'boyfriend' is, do you?" She was almost certain that she knew the answer to that by now but wanted to hear him say it himself. From there, they could move on.

Waiting for Padma to catch up to him, he just continued to stare at her. He still had no idea what she wanted to talk about. They had only meant recently, it could be about anything, really. His ears perked as she said he had a problem. Once she said that, his head began to spin with thoughts. He knew he had some problems.. Like his somewhat of short-term memory.. His eye sight wasn't that good either. But Ame was to oblivious to even think that his naive nature was what she had in mind.

He continued to listen to her. He didn't know everything? His first thoughts would be, No one knows everything.. And knowing him, he'd stay at that thought and completely zone out what else she had to say. Lucky for Padma, he didn't this time. It was true. Ame didn't know somethings he ought to know. He knew nothing about good & bad, as in people. He knew nothing of love, and liking in an affectionate way. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't know where babies came from.. Then she brought up the whole "boyfriend" word. He could've sworn he heard that before.. Then he remembered! Didn't she say that before? However, he didn't remember his answer from before. Which only lead him to answer the exact same thing..

"Sure I do! It's a boy that's a friend!" He nodded and smiled in confidence to his answer. Good times~

"It. Is. Not." She punctuated each word with a stomp of her hoof and stared at Ame with an expression crossed between incredulity and frustration. No matter how she braced herself for his reactions they always took her aback. "It's too bad that your parents didn't teach you what a boyfriend is... but instead I'm going to have to."

Now, where was a good starting point? She tried to think of a state she could reference to, one he might have heard of and understand. "Do you know how... how your parents love each other? How it's different from the way they love you?" Now was the point when it would be tremendously awkward should it turn out that he didn't have parents or if his parents had a rocky relationship. If that was the case then she could quickly try another strategy.... after she recovered from the embarrassment, of course.

As she talked she continued to walk in the direction they had been going in. Walking would make this conversation less awkward, she hoped. It was something to distract the two of them, at any rate.

Ame just looked at her disappointed in himself. He didn't understand how is answer was wrong. But apparently it was. And now she was going to teach him exactly what it was. It would surely be a good lesson. One would hope anyway. He continued to walk forward, not paying attention to what was in front of him. Always keeping his attention on Padma.

He didn't say anything in response to his wrong answer. He just waited for her to say something else with the same disappointed face. Until she brought up his parents. He never really spent much time with them. He didn't notice anything to different from how they acted around him either. So he didn't really understand where she was coming from. His siblings would probably understand way better then he could. He just looked at her, blank, for a moment. He was trying to think, but way harder then necessary. Until he finally said something.

"Ummm, no..?" He said with a very obvious question mark at the end of the sentence. He was quite confused.

Padma's ears drooped in frustration. This was going to be a test of patience like none she had ever had before. She obviously needed a different angle to start from but even as she wracked her brain she couldn't think of how would be a better way to say it.

"All right. Sooooo." She stretched out her last word to give her a few more seconds to think. "So. So you have two soquili... They meet each other and they like each other... but not like a friend. They like each other in a different way. They want to... uh..." Her words faltered. They want to what? I can't tell him that. Padma had no idea if anyone had ever given Ame the "birds and the bees" talk but she was certain that it wasn't going to be her.

"They like each other in a different sort of way. When you see a friend you're happy... but when you see a boyfriend your heart flutters." Padma again stopped abruptly after her last sentence. Heart fluttering... Just like it did when she saw Ame... that is, when he wasn't being annoying. The end of her nose blushed pink and she shook some mane over it, hoping that Ame wouldn't notice.

Of course he won't notice, she thought sarcastically to herself. He never notices anything. Why would he start now?

He tilted his head in confusion, as she tried to explain things to him. To any normal Soq, her explanation would've been simple. Ame, however, had to look deeper into things. Over analyze.. That's hard to believe, but it happens. What does your heart fluttering feel like..? Again, never having affectionate feelings for someone, he was completely clueless. Did it feel like some sort of heart attack? Pain..? He had no idea. He looked back to Padma, after a short thought. There was something different about her, but he couldn't put his hoof on it. He then asked his question.

"What does your heart fluttering feel like?" He asked, his head still quirked to the side.

Padma was surely going to have a touch time with Ame. Once she answered his question, he would only ask another about her answer. And while he was busy asking question.. It would be surprising if he forgot what they were even talking about at the beginning. If Padma was lucky, he would remember the whole conversation through. However, that was only a 50/50 chance. He was already not paying attention to the rest of the answer. Now only focusing on what this fluttering feeling was. Here's hope for the poor mare..

(( I lawed at the birds and the bees part.. As he probably wouldn't know anything about it.. if they talked about it now. Lol. XD ))

Flustering forgotten, Padma was tempted to shout at him. Tempted to kick him in the legs and shout "I bet your heart is fluttering now!" Hearts fluttered with pain. If he hadn't felt his heart fluttering at anything else then maybe she had no choice but to sink to that level.

But no. She wasn't a violent mare. At least, not unless it was a special occasion. This conversation might be "special" but it certainly wasn't an occasion.

She had no choice but to try to explain it.... civilly. Which brought back the question of what a heart fluttering felt like which made Padma's own heart linger dangerously on the verge of fluttering.

"When your heart flutters you feel... you feel nervous. And happy at the same time. It's like when you see someone and wonder if they're ever going to like you as much as you like them and if they even notice you exist." Her tone grew sharper and more directed with each word until she was practically glaring at him. Yes, it was directed at him. No, he probably wouldn't notice. Padma figured that she might as well talk about him to his face if he wasn't even going to realize what it was she was doing.

Is that what that feels like..? He was actually paying close attention to Padma, and her answer. But he didn't realize she was directing her answer towards him. Just as he didn't notice her blushing. However, he began to feel bad. With her answer, he only began to realize he had never felt that way before. He had always been to occupied getting lost in thought, being naive, and trying to figure things out. Even if he had felt such feelings, though he hasn't, he wouldn't have even noticed such a thing.

Looking down, almost in embarrassment, he closed his eyes and began to think. Thinking of all the Soq he could remember. None of them seemed to make his heart feel that way. One mare made him feel happy, but not as she described. Plus, he had only known this mare as a filly, he knew his affection towards her wasn't that of what Padma spoke of.

Looking back up at Padma, he seemed a bit upset. He was almost a year old, and he had yet to feel any affection towards anyone. All he felt towards others was friendship, something other then that just... Flew right over him. I suppose that just showed how much he still had to grow. His mind was still not as mature as it should be at his age. But this would surely change eventually.

"I've never felt that way before." He still seemed to be a bit upset.

He just said what was the truth. He didn't realize what he just said might hurt someone. As he again, didn't realize all the obvious signals Padma was throwing at him. Again, his oblivious nature doesn't realize what words could make others feel like. And only says whats on his mind, and how he feels. And if others were to show an emotion to make him feel bad, himself, he wouldn't even know what he had done. He still had much to go through.. But in the end, it would surely make him a better stallion~

The emotional response took Padma aback. She had expected Ame to reply with another one of his blithe "Oh. That's nice, but I have no idea what you're talking about!" sort of responses. An open admittance that he had never felt anything like that was different. Especially an open admittance with some real emotion behind it.

"Well..." She swung her tail behind her, trying to buy more time. "Well..."

He had never felt that way. Not about anyone, not about her. "Well..." She felt the familiar sensation of frustrated pain pricking at her. She had felt that feeling so many times in her life and several of them it had been caused, albeit unintentionally, by Ame. Now it was happening again. She was trying her best and that wasn't good enough. Again.

"Maybe someday you'll feel it. And then maybe you'll know what it feels like. Maybe it's pointless trying to explain it if you've never felt it before." She kicked a stone with a fraction of the withheld frustration that she felt. She glared at it as it went skidding away from her into the bushes. "Maybe it's just as stupid as if you tried to teach me how to fly." Her parents had met and fallen in love when the one who could fly tried to teach the one without wings how to. It had always seemed silly to Padma. If you didn't have wings you couldn't fly. Some things were just...

Impossible.

Ame looked at Padma confused, as she seemed to be thinking of something to say. As he was completely oblivious to how she was feeling, he couldn't explain why she was reacting the way she was. But he could tell she was beginning to act the way she would when he got her mad, or frustrated. He had already seen it to many times. That look she would give, her tone changed. It made his chest sink in, he hated when he upset others. And he still had no idea how he could do it so much, to Padma.

He knew that one day he'd feel what she was explaining. He knew it was only a matter of time before he started a family, as everyone would. But he didn't know when it would happen. Maybe it was right in front of him, and he just couldn't see it. When she brought up, it being as stupid as him trying to teach her how to fly. He could only smile. He didn't think that was stupid at all.. He thought that might actually be fun. Sure, Padma would never be able to fly. But that doesn't mean she wouldn't be able to feel the same way he would when he flies. Though, he didn't fly often. It was always nice when he did.

"Maybe I will.. But I don't think teaching someone without wings to fly is stupid.." He continued to smile at her, trying to make her frustration disappear.

Sometimes, when Ame talked to others, he didn't seem as slow as he usually did. He had met this filly one day, she was very bright, unique. When he was around her, he seemed to give off a sense of intelligence. But it had only happened when it was around her.. He didn't even notice he wasn't acting the way he used to. Yes, he was that naive. But maybe a bit of that, was about to come out, right now...

Head drooping, Padma looked at the smile on Ame's face. It was so like him, to say something disappointing and then try to cheer her up again after he had done it. She didn't understand him. He didn't understand some of the most basic things... but he understood that she was bothered by his lack of comprehension of it. He didn't understand what she was talking about... but he was still trying to make her feel better.

He was trying to make her feel better.

Almost unwillingly, Padma found herself smiling back at him. When he gave her that smile it was hard to let herself feel down... even when she certainly deserved some brooding. He was so impossible. He wouldn't feel for her what she wanted him to feel for her... but he also wouldn't let her have a proper amount of moping about it.

"You..." she muttered accusingly. "You would try to teach someone how to fly even if they didn't have wings, wouldn't you? I bet you do it all the time." The accusation in her tone began to change to playfulness. "I bet you do it to every creature you meet... deer... turtles... everything."

Ame was very odd indeed. He could very easily tell when someone was frustrated with him.. But he could never figure out why. As he was acting himself, he wouldn't figure it was his responses making them so irritated. But for some reason, it was only this mare who would get so annoyed with him. He couldn't remember any other Soquili acting as she would. And he had yet to figure out why. Only if his more mature side would come in out of nowhere and figure it out all for him. He would save himself and Padma some time in that whole department. But when she smiled back at him, he already began to feel better.. That she seemed to be feeling better.

He laughed. "I can't say I've done it before.. But it sounds like fun." He nodded.

I'd find it hard to believe if someone didn't think Ame would actually try that.. His name was written all over that situation. But what could ya say? It was Ame. He's very predictable, yet not at the same time. Confusing, I guess you could put it. Sounds like a lot of fun to me!
