In his travels, Duranjaya had seen a lot. Abusive families, loving families, families torn apart by plague or drought or just overexaggerated tradegy. The point in all this, though, was that they were families. And it had made him long for his own. He hadn't seen his sisters since he was a child, and his mother before that. In short... Duranjaya missed his Momma.

It hadn't been the sole reason for his return, but family did play a very large factor in him coming back to the familiar Soquili lands of his childhood. Things had changed in his absence, as time makes things do that with or without his regard, but one thing he was eternally sure of was his welcome into his family's open arms. Figuratively speaking, of course. His sisters could be found another day, surely. Today was for his Mother, if he could find her.

Ardia was back at her home again, grazing on a field that overlooked the Kawani Village. Travelling to meet her large family had ceased over winter, and she was spending time with Sheridan, getting to know him again after their long time apart. She chewed on a mouthful, wondering how her own children were getting on. She knew that Adrienne had become a mother for the first time recently, having helped her with the labour. Meena was also hopefully on the way to being happy in love..and she already knew that Sierra had made a good life for herself. She wondered about Takoda and Duranjaya, her two boys.

Takoda had come to her for advice about a mare - but she'd heard nothing since. She hoped that had gone well, and he was just spending time with his new mate. But Duranjaya..he'd wandered, further afield than his father it must have been because he had not come back to visit her once. She hoped that wherever he was he was well.

He was doing well, she'd soon see that for herself.

Duranjaya picked his way through the lands towards where he hoped his mother would be, deliberate in his slow speed. What would he say when he saw her again? It'd been so long, it was both exciting to see his mother and scary. He was a stranger now, at best. He'd changed in his travelling, but she was still his mother and he was still her son. Her favorite, he joked to himself. It wasn't long, despite his slow trot, before he saw a sight both familiar and foreign to him. There she was, eating peacefully.

He paused a distance away, taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly. It was just his mother. It wasn't like she was going to eat him. One hoof in front of the other, Duranjaya closed the distance between the two of them, stopping a little ways away from Ardia. Giving her space. After a minute, he swallowed hard. Just say something. Anything. Say hi, for the love of goodness.

"... Mom?"

He watched Ardia nervously, head ducking down. It was like he was a colt again, but he couldn't help feeling guilty for taking off without even saying goodbye. He just hoped she wasn't upset with him. That'd make it worse.

For a moment she did think it was Sheridan come to see her again, and she smiled, wondering at his hesitation. She looked again, and it was like seeing a new picture in something that seemed familiar.

'Duranjaya?' she exclaimed. Maybe she was just imagining it, after all hadn't she just been thinking about her absent son? He couldn't really be standing right there, looking well, and healthy, a fine stallion.

'Is it really you?' she managed to say, her voice cracking. She would probably embarrass him if she got all emotional but it had been too long since she saw her son.

"It's me," Duran nodded a little, unable to supress the grin spreading across his face. "Really."

He wasn't embarrassed with his mother, after all he had gone and taken off without so much as a goodbye. Instead, the brown stallion walked closer to Ardia, watching her quietly. He stopped once he was close enough to Ardia to speak softer, smiling a little. "How've you been, Mom?" He was nearly at a loss; what could you say to a mare you hadn't seen since your coltdays? But this was his Mom. And she was pleased to see him. It certainly made him feel more at home.

She took in a breath, not wanting their first reunion since he'd taken himself off into the wide world to be a soggy one. He was a stallion after all, and that's what they did. If he had stayed around, clung to her hooves, she might have been worried that they'd not reared him properly, that she hadn't been a mother who let her children find their feet and go their own way.

'Good, I'm really good.' she walked sedately over, her eyes bright with unshed tears of happiness and pressed her nose against her sons neck. He still smelt the same..from newborn, to the gangly colt out of the basket to this fine looking adult. She drew back a little so she could look him in the eye.

'I can see you're well.' she smiled.
'Come back to show your old mother that you've not vanished from the world after all eh?' she teased him gently, covering up all the emotions she felt at one of her sons finally visiting home again.

"I'm glad." He was, truly. Sure, he hadn't thought much about his family and how they might've been while he was gone, and he felt guilt for that, but knowing his mother was good, really good made him feel less guilt for it. She was strong and capable of taking care of herself and foals, there was no reason to think other things might've happened to her.

He pressed his nose against Ardia in response, pleased at the familiar scent. It was distinctly Mother in his head, there wasn't anything comparable to it. It was a comfort to smell someone familiar after so long.

He nodded with a bit of a sheepish grin, bobbing his head quietly. "I'm back for good, now." He said gently, snorting at himself. "I've travelled enough to last me a lifetime, to be honest. But I'm good. Especially now that I'm home." He smiled at Ardia, in an attempt to be comforting.

She was even more happy now, but she had to be sure that it was what he truly wanted. After all, he was a stallion, and they were always prone to wanderlust.

'You're sure? You're not just doing this to please your old mother are you?' she asked, tugging idly on his mane, grooming out a small snag in the hairs.
'It would make me very happy to have you around here again my son, but only if it's entirely your decision.'

And maybe there was another reason too. If he was planning on settling down, raising a family, she would be even more pleased to have him home again.
