Yue was tired. Tired of it, really. There was too much damn drama going on. He followed Sen into the venture, but it only really gave him a headache. And more children than he could count on his paws. Women. They were too tricky to trust anymore. He stuck his chin out, feeling frustrated as he sought out to find one of his sons. He was done with this, it was someone else's turn.
Ah, there he was. Hmhmhm.
There was no way that Xundao could miss his father coming. He was as bright as the sun. Xundao didn't understand how he could be nearly opposite to his father. Plain as...well, not day. But boring. Yawning, he rolled over to face his father, wondering what he wanted now. It was hard talking to his father, as he was only filled with frustration. Xun understood, but seriously? He needed to go make his own happiness before he came crying to his own kid about how life sucked.
"Xun," Yue said, his tail perking up behind him. He raised his head, trying to look more serious. "It's your turn, y'know. You're probably one of the better choices of all the males around, plus you're my kid. You should be the next leader here, to take my place." It wasn't a long speech, but long enough that he wondered if he should have said everything at once. Oh well, it was out there in the open, and Xun could take it whichever way he wanted.
Xun blinked. Wait, what? "But Father, that's your role!" There was no way he could do it. Not...that he thought it was hard. His dad barely did anything. But being somewhat in the spotlight for that? To wear the white flower? Everyone would know who he was then, and he wasn't certain if he liked that. He enjoyed just lounging around as he contemplated everything about life. Including amusing fathers.
This was something that he hadn't expected at all. His mind drew a blank as he stared at his father in disbelief. No way.
"What?" Yue laughed, though it wasn't a completely kind one. "I'm not old, Xun, so it's not like I feel like I'm dying. I'm tired of this. Sen is gone, only appearing when she feels like it. I feel like I have no attachment anymore. And honestly, I'm jealous. I want to just go where I want to go, and do what I want to do...though I don't think I'm quite ready for that yet." His tail twitched. "I'll still be around, but I'm not really...in the mindset to care about the pride, honestly. You're a smart kid, you'll know exactly what to do."
Xun narrowed his eyes. "You didn't even ask me if I wanted this. What if I'm against it?" And he was. He knew he was a poor choice; he was pretty much a hermit! "I don't think you thought it out very well, Dad." He was upset, and it was apparent on his face.
He never had plans of leaving home, but he knew that others might. What if he got the itch later? He would be stuck in this position. Eyeing his father, he could tell though that he didn't want it. Sadness started to poke at the corners of his heart. Pity, too.
Yue sighed. "Xun, you're the best suited for it. You'll enjoy it for a time, and if you manage to have kids, you can do what I'm doing. Honestly, I just don't feel right in this position when it's not Sen on the other side of it. That's the majority of it." He felt that there was something more, but he couldn't put his nose on it. Frustrating, but he'd let it pass, if it even did. As long as he wasn't at the helm, it would be all right.
"Besides, it won't take effect until your mane completely grows in. I'll teach you what you need to know. WHen you're ready, you'll have to bear the white flower."
Xun involuntarily shook, as he was actually growing nervous over this. He looked up at his father, though. His tone changed. First it was very conceited, and confident. Compassion was finally taking over, though, and thankfully. So he wasn't going to just push it on him and leave. That...meant more than haveing to be stuck with this position.
"All right," he said quietly. "I'll do it. Just...please stick around. I don't know what I'd do if you left too. I'm going to need a lot of help." In more ways than one. Especially being social.
Of course, he was totally asking the wrong lion to help him be more social to the pride. Xun was very similar to how Yue was as a child before the adventure with Sen forced him to grow up, and not compeletly in a good way. He snorted at the memories. He didn't quite enjoy them, but they were there, and part of his history. He was probably more interesting than a lot of the members here. At least, he would have more stories to tell of grand adventure and screw ups.
"Definately. If I do leave, I'll make sure to let you know, and visit. Don't worry about it too much, though. You still have a huge piece of your family here, and it doesn't seem like it'll ever stop growing either.
Xun sighed. "Fine, fine. You've won this time, Dad." He shook his head, but there was a small twinkle in his eye. "You owe me." Of course, that was probably the wrong thing to tell his father. Who knew what Yue would do to pay for that debt. Xun shoved the warning thought away in his mind. He'd deal with it later, if it even happened. His dad, helping him? Hah! More like tell him what to do, and then probably sleep away the rest of his life.
"If you go anywhere I'll send a whole troop after you. You won't be allowed to leave, that'll be my first thing I'll do!"
Yue growled, pouncing his son. As he was nearly full grown, he knew that Xun could take most of his weight. Satisfied with a grunt and a snarl, he laughed as he rolled onto his back. "I should have taken better care of you guys. I guess I got pissed when your mother left me pretty much alone in taking care of you guys. I sorta failed, didn't I?" He sighed as he stared up at the sun, wondering how his own parents were doing. Probably fine, back in the Pridelands. He didn't care enough to find out, though, so here merely sent his wish out into the sky that they were indeed well and happy.
Augh! Stupid...stupid Dad! Xun did his best to try and push his father off, but as he wasn't nearly as strong as his father, it looked rather pathetic. Snarling at his father, he was still rather upset when Yue rolled over, but content enough to keep his tonuge quiet. Why did sads always do that? Xun never thought it was fun, but then he wasn't really that typical in his aspect on life. He sat around and did what he could, avoiding even hunting, so his muscles were pretty....pathetic. And he didn't know the first thing about defending himself.
"Nah, Dad. You did fine. Even if you weren't around either, there were plenty of others to watch over us. Like Astrea." His ear twitched, knowing that he was hiding a bit of the pain, but it was the truth. That was life for him, and he didn't think much of how it could have been different. Why wish to change what couldn't change?
"Well, ah," Yue stumbled with his words. "I still think I screwed up. Thanks for lying to me." He laughed again, enough so that it took a bit for him to calm down again. Xun was rolling his eyes at him. "It still makes me feel at least a bit better. I'll be around more, you'll just have to call on me."
Xun nodded. "I will."
