Finally they had arrived in the lands of the Soquili which pretty much looked like home in some parts, but it wasn't. Cheveyo respected the difficult decision the prince had to make. He couldn't help but feel he would always long for their forest, but he would make do they had to. Cheve decided he would throw himself into something to keep his mind off of the situation entirely. Back home he usually helped patrolthe lesser populated areas to keep the herd safe, so Cheveyo thought he could do the same work while keeping up the cheer of his people.

As the his peopled rested Cheveyo only took a moment to himself and then went to make a patrol of the area first close by the herd. Everything looked fine so he decided that maybe a little scouting of the area would be an excellent idea. Slowly he made his way out into the unknown moving slowly and quietly ears pricked and alert.

Each of his kind appeared to be dealing with their new home in their own way. Some treated it with apprehension, some regarding it with suspicion and others chose to view it with some form of optimism. Regardless of whichever they chose to do they all dealt with it in their own ways. The Prince found it difficult to gauge how successful the move had been, it was simply too early to confirm whether is gambit had been right and that it would pay off in the long term. However, he was comforted by the knowledge that there were those in the herd who had taken it upon themselves to be the rocks to their family and friends. It was impossible for Kozue to speak with every one of the herd when they wished to converse with him so it was with gratitude that he looked towards those who leant their ear to the cause.

Alongside those who had become mentors and advisors were those who had adopted their former positions. The Elders travelled together, their counsel unwavering and the various scout and guard bucks had once again taken up their positions. The world may have changed around them and the land scape may have been different but their hearts of the Cerynei would sustain themselves. Throughout this journey they had shown this to him and he drew upon this strength to walk with the confidence and purpose that had been required for this trek. As of yet he did not regret his choice but he was not exactly pleased with it either.

Rolling his shoulders, the Prince quietly pressed his way through the undergrowth of the more distant pathways. The herd had come to a halt for the evening, permitting fawn, buck and doe alike to rest if they required it. However he could not rest... It was imperitive that he find the next pathway to walk down so that he might lead his kind further into the embrace of the Kawani as opposed to hiding on the borders. His ears swivelled back and forth, alert to any foreign sound and sure enough it wasn't long before he heard the slight 'shuffling' of another being. His eyes narrowed somewhat suspiciously at this and turned towards the sound though it's owner had yet to come into view.

"Show yourself," he ordered.

Cheveyo had been nosing about in some bushes smelling to see if any of them could be food, they looked like some of the growth back home but also different. Cheveyo picked up a slight sound but thought nothing of it until it moved closer. Then the voice...he knew that voice all of his kind did.

Quietly Cheveyo stepped out into a more open area and there stood the prince. In a swift movement Cheve bowed his head carefuly to the prince.
"I'm sorry your highness I did not mean to catch you off guard" He couldn't say scare him, he obviously was not and Cheve knew how brave the prince was. He had after all brought all of the Cerynei here to look for a better life.

Cheve stood relax but still in an on guard position. He didn't think the prince would want to deal with anymore uptight Cerynei right now.

Another Cerynei?

Kozue swivelled his ears a little more before turning his head in the buck's direction and nodding in recognition. The Cerynei had revealed himself without hesitation and in return Kozue would provide him with the respect he deserved. There were no misunderstandings, no surprises and no hard feelings even if Cheveyo had strayed relatively far from his herd. Every now and then certain members did wander and the prince was relatively sure that Cheveyo had an excuse for being out so late and so distant from his kind.

"It is quite all right," he assured the buck with another nod. He paused briefly in the still of the night and tilted his head to the side, taking the opportunity to survey the buck more closely. He was sure he had seen the pelt colour before but as with most members of the herd he could only assume it was in passing. "You are out late though and most would advise against straying so far from the herd..."

Standing very still while the prince gave him the once over like a captain inspecting his troops, Cheve watched his expression. He didn't think the prince would be angry with him for straying so far from the herd in these unknown lands and what with quite a few of them missing as it was.

No he didn't look upset in the least Cheveyo decided if anything he looked curious. He relaxed a bit more once the prince spoke.
"I am truly sorry your highness I was scoutin. I should have stayed closer to the herd, old habits die hard I guess" he chuckled and then explained
"I was usually on outskirts patrol at home" he smiled but saying the last bit of his sentence with sadness.

Trying to lift his spirits he gave the prince a wry smile and asked
"Begging your pardon sir but what are you doing out here so far alone" he knew the prince could handle himself but it was interesting to speak to him without a swarm of Ceyrnei buzzing about him.

A scout - it really did bring the buck comfort to know that even the scouts had returned to their normal ways. Admittedly their patrols were more sporadic at present since their territory remained unmarked but still. Kozue could regard them with pride and a deep respect that even now they sought to protect their kind as they deemed it necessary. That in mind the prince hoped that this scout and others like him had yet to find anything of concern - foreign sounds would be common in a new land but Kozue would be loathe to think that they would be the subject of curiousity for more deadly creatures.

"You need not apologise for taking your duties to heart," Kozue reassured him as the apology was uttered. He shook his head dismissively and rolled his shoulders. Apologies were only necessary when a rule was broken but Cheveyo had done nothing more than to perform his duties, to act on instinct. To chastise him for that would have been uncouth, particularly when it was important for his kind to return to normality as quickly as possible. "Old habits may die hard but there are some that I would encourage individuals to cling to - having a routine, particularly one such of yours will bring comfort to many."

Nevertheless, as the buck touched on Kozue's only reasons for dwelling so far away from the herd he could do nothing more than snort. Suffice to say there was a time when he was never seen by the herd, a glimpse here and there but he had lived in solitude for most of his life. To be surrounded by so many was as foreign a concept to him as these lands were. "It is imperative that I seek out other pathways to lead us down in the coming days, I prefer easier trails to walk down so that the doe and their fawn remain comfortable."

Cheve didn’t know how the prince did it he seemed so calm and sure of himself in these new lands. This was something he admired greatly about the buck maybe one day Cheveyo would let go of that seed of fear. He thought about this as the prince spoke to him telling him there was no need to apologize. Letting out a breath of relief he was glad now, going on patrol helped him to think and not be as anxious even though it meant going out into these unknown lands. If he knew he was helping to protect his people then that seed was buried and quiet. Only when he was still and had nothing to do did it bloom into a great thorny monster.

Cheveyo blinked and a small smile spread across his face as he could only imagine what the snort the prince had uttered meant. Nodding solemnly as he spoke Cheveyo lifted his head proudly.
“Sir I would patrol with you if you would let me two bucks can cover more ground safely” he nodded again slipping back into his “warrior” self. He could help and would be glad for the distraction.

It wasn't that Kozue was scared so much as completely petrified, any in his position would feel the same. The weight of responsibility placing a near unbearable pressure on his shoulders was hard to ignore. However it was this responsibility that also kept him grounded. It was through this knowledge and this purpose that that fear and uncertainty was surpressed. As a child he would never have been capable of this but as an adult he had developed the confidence to just do it. It had been a necessity and as necessities went they had to be taken even if it made you feel sick to the stomach, had there been another more subtle alternative then surely the Cerynei Prince would have taken it.

Nevertheless had he known that so many marvelled at his calm demeanour he would have been proud. Not so much for him as for the knowledge that he could instill some form of confidence in them. A sense of security was important in these lands and if his unwavering resolve gave off this aura then he would not be one to cast it to one side. The buck did concede though (only to himself) that when his kind were settled once more he would need a nice rest to recuperate. He wasn't sure if the raccoons in these parts provided a massage parlour nearby but he was going to have to do something to get the knots out of his neck - this would all be done in private though, none need know that the journey had taken it's toll on him.

He was exhausted.

The buck had no time to dwell on such issues though as he was knocked out of his reverie and he afforded another wry smile towards the younger buck. It seemed the compliments Kozue had provided had done their job and the buck in question was happy. He nodded somewhat at this and then considered his request, once again it was a rather foreign concept to him but what was the harm? If this buck became more familiar with the paths he chose then he too could help in guiding his own kind.

"You may come if you please," he replied smoothly and have a slight nod.

Giving a slight smile and a nod to the Prince, Cheve nodded his head off in a certain direction
"I was following this north eastern direction here." he told him and then added
"I found some plantes silimar to those back home that grow close to flowing water sources so I am thinking there might be a stream or river or something in that direction sir" Cheveyo looked to see what the Prince thought about the idea.

If not Cheveyo was interested in going wherever the Prince would like to explore. Now that he had company he wasn't so afraid to head off into the unknown. Squaring his shoulders he felt better than ever, or at least since leaving home he had a job to do and he his brain absorb that and wash away the sead of fear.
"We could try wherever you like Prince that was just what I was onto" he nodded respectfully.

"You would be correct, there is a water source nearby the direction you had been exploring," Kozue replied smoothly. He had explored various areas in the passing days and while he hadn't seen the water source he had at least heard the tell tale trickle of running water nearby. It had been enough to bring him comfort in the knowledge that water wouldn't be scarce, that it would be plentiful and wouldn't be grey with ash and smoke. However, even as he had discovered such a thing he had been required to move on and had consequently cast this thought aside in favour of uncovering further trails. At the very least, he would find an easy one for the final leg of the journey.

"That being said I have much work to do and much land to cover, while I am aware that it is nearby perhaps you would be wise to confirm it's exact location," he added. He wasn't going to backtrack to a place he had been a day or so before, but he would encourage this able scout to locate it properly. Afterall, it was Cheveyo's job to discover new things and to guard his kind - to bring them to water would bring him great pride indeed! A renewed sense of purpose, exactly what he would need to find these lands appealing despite how foreign they appeared to be.

"At present my immediate concern is to find a suitable trail for the final leg of the journey, if such a search appeals to you."
