"Meteor Garden" Japanese version, F4 stirs Asia
Tao Tai Lang remakes TV series, to be broadcasted next month

Taiwan's "Meteor Garden" was very popular after broadcasting in Japan, making the Japanese have the thought of remaking the 21st century "Meteor Garden." TBS TV station took the first step and already decided that in October they will broadcast Japan's version of "Meteor Garden" starring Matsumoto Jun, Oguri Shun, Matsuda Shota, and Abe Tsuyoshi as "F4." Taiwan's "Meteor Garden" stirred up Asia, the charm of Japan's F4 is something to look forward to.
Matsumoto Jun, from the group Arashi, will be take on the role of Dao Ming Si. Matsumoto Jun expressed that because of his sister's influence he had watched this anime before. At that time he really liked the story and thought that Dao Ming Si was really handsome. He hopes that he'll have a breakthrough performance this time. Matsumoto Jun was one of main figures on the highly rated Japanese drama "Gokusen I." TBS believes that with Matsumoto Jun's experience and popularity he'll be able to bring out the leadership to play the role in "Meteor Garden."
Japanese anime/manga artist Yoko Kamio's famous campus anime/manga "Meteor Garden" had sold 4,800,000 copies. In 1995 it was made into a movie starring Uchida Yuki. Taiwan's super idols F4's "Meteor Garden" shot to fame in Asia, making Japan energeticly prepare for the new version of the drama. This drama will be broadcasting starting next month on the 21st at 10pm on channel TBS.

Jerry Yan : Hopes for someone to hug my head
14th Oct, as Oral B's Healthy Smile ambassador, Jerry attended "Oral B's date with you and Jerry" held in HK. He chatted, took picture and played games with fans from all over Asia.
As the only invited media from China, we got to chat with Jerry for more than an hour after the event.
Before the interview, fans told the reporter to tell him, "30 as a target, start a family before the career." We told him about it but we didn't know he will say this, "I am hoping for love now, a relationship as hot as DaoMingSi, a space to go, someone who can just hug my head when i'm feeling down....."
"I'm like DaoMingSi when in love."
It was very relaxed during chatting, we almost forgot because of a word and it started a topic on "love". Before the interview, this question was placed yellow card. Maybe it started when talking about his fliming of White Tower.
Arriving in HK on the afternoon of the 13th, he was still fliming it in the morning. This long journey gave him a cold, there were "hm hm" little actions from his nose at some point of time and he'll say politely, "excuse me." Just like how he had admitted, "After Meteor Garden, i don't have any works that i can hand out." People beside him, including himself, are all looking towards White Tower.
Newspaper : I heard you play the role of a Doctor in White Tower ? Many people have a childhood truama of the hospital, white hanging, face masks, how about you ?
Jerry : It's quite strange, i haven't been to the hospital when i was young. My family environment wasn't good, my parents would give me jabs at home when there are little problems like cold and fever.
Newspaper : Your dad learnt it before ?
Jerry : Nope, he learnt it himself.
Newspaper : Isn't that very dangerous ?
Jerry : I like the feeling of being sick....
Newspaper : Bian Tai Xiao Hai. [Crazy Child.]
Jerry : Hahaha ! That's because my father would love me when i'm sick! [kept quiet for awhile] My family is quite biased towards boys than girls. During our meals, if my sister were to get angry and slam the door, my dad would not say anything. For me, if i were to make any noise when eating something, his slap would fly over. [kept quiet again] When i was studying in first year, my dad passed away. My mom made clothes for people but she didn't earn much and her health isn't that good. I started to work at Primary 5, packing toys, labour work at sites, bartender security, putting up shops at nite markets...i have done almost everything, i even tried to do a little trick when doing business. My home is in a village, it would take me 4 hours to and fro school and working took up most of my time, i didn't had time to study properly.
Newspaper : So you would hope for people to care for you?
Jerry : All single parent family kids would hope for that. Just like when you are in love, there is someone who'll laugh and cry with me. I'm like DaoMingSi when in love, faithful, even a little taking control, no reasons to talk about, i just wanna hold her everyday.
"Why is it always me who gets dump ?"
At the press conference before the interview, Jerry was trying very hard to use cantonese to making turns to the HK reporters. Asked if he'll dare take off his top to compare his muscles with Rain, asked if he'll dare to do bed scenes with Sammi Cheng in Chang Hen Ge...all gossips came out. His cantonese could no longer hang on but could only use chinese to fill up everything. Back into his own room, he seemed a little lost after the HK media's gossips. He stood at the window and breathe a few times. Outside the window was a busy HK. On the glass of the window, was another Jerry Yan. He quickly touched up his hair himself, turned around and said, "Can we take pictures now?"
5 minutes later, Jerry have settled his own emotions. So, what is the problems he met in relationships?
Newspaper : People in love would normally do some "silly things".
Jerry : Yes, on Valentine's Day 6 years ago, i screamed "I Love You" to her in a very busy road. The passerbys thought they met a insane person, but i myself know this is romantic. I would even go to the supermarket and queue up to help her get private stuffs, the employees looked at me with funny eye expressions, i'm okay, it's quite crazy, move all the way foward.
Newspaper : Do you find it funny now that you think of it ?
Jerry : It's just like watching Meteor Garden.
Newspaper : Why did you all break up in the end ?
Jerry : There was once when i had to go for national service, we had to break up. At first, we sang in KTV together and ended up crying hugging one another. The few other times, i don't understand. Why is is that everytime i would protect carefully, giving all the love, but why is it always me who gets dump ? Maybe i treat girls too well, they feel that it's a routine. When anything is not done properly...hai..hard to explain. Few days ago when i heard an old song of Alex Du, "Fang Yi Ke Xin", i had lots of feelings.
Newspaper : Feelings of problems ?
Jerry : Many times.
"Lin Zhi Ling & I"
Jerry has a habit when going out, wearing a cap, stuff lots of things in his bag and heavily, it hangs on his shoulders to train his muscles. He said, "This way, it feels more secure." Previously, the impression would only stop at these few words, "dui ah , dui ah." After these few words, there'll be no more sentances. Such boring dudes are often the black listed during interviews.
However, this time, he automatically talked about the lightning area of love. Reporter decided to try step on this bomb, Lin Zhi Ling.
Newspaper : The next question, if you feel that you need not be honest to a reporter, you can don't answer it. [assistant jumps out, "You can ask me then."]
Jerry : It's okay, ask.
Newspaper : Lin Zhi Ling and you....
Jerry : Now, whenver i read of news of "Lin Zhi Ling and Jerry Yan", it's like reading a novel, there are news storylines everyday. The media seems to be more sure of "what jerry did today". I think i'm bound to have female friends, i was born from a model, it's natural to have many friends. It's a coincidence that modelling is hot in Taiwan, when she's popular, they'll take us for stories.
Newspaper : You don't want to explain ?
Jerry : What's the use of explaining ? Next day when i watch the news, it's another new act-out. No benefits in saying more, i just want to protect the friends around me. Love in the entertainment circle is so difficult. Even if there's a chance to know one another, there isn't chances to develop.
Newspaper : So now .. ?
Jerry : I'm hoping for love, just as hot as DaoMingSi, a space to go to, someone who can just hug my head when i'm feeling down...
"The Smile Behing Shao Ye"
In the mouths of Xu fans, they still call him "Shao Ye", in Meteor Garden. Hanging around with Xu fans in Hk for a few days, among a few things that happened, reporter have fixed a ShaoYe behind the smile.
When fliming a commercial, you have to smile in every scene. Once a scene is properly up, he would automatically smile and show his white teeth. A few hours later, the muscles by his cheeks starts to harden. For a whole day, the opening and closing of his mouth seems to be locked, he doesn't even know what he smiles for. He says he isn't someone who loves to smile, when he first joined the entertainment circle, he didn't like socialising. " If i didn't need to meet people everyday, i might become very rugged, leave a moustach, make myself rugged."
Ever since once when his smiling face was being coldly tugged back by another artist, he then understand, "If i give people a black face up stage , it'll definately hurt more people."
Not giving up on the temperature
Before he attend the event, Jerry took some time to visit the dentist. According to what is known, this dentist was the first in HK, and it's Cheng Long's use. Just a private event and his whole schedule was packed. The way he will be recieved was a full page of 3 A4 size papers. However, the management company still was concern, and asked a few more details, " How long would it take for the car to reach there? What's is the temperature in the room ? Sitting on a couch or a chair?"
Doesn't leave out presents
Whenever he starts out, his fans who knew everything would know of his every schedule. When he goes to Dubai for fliming, there'll be a "tourist group" following. When he sits in business class, there will be xu fans who will be fixing their seats beside him. When he gets down the plane, there will be recievants who will tell others outside of his arrival.
For example, during his few times in HK, xu fans would arrive one plane before his. When news that he would be coming out of A64 gate, they would wait there for XU. And another news came that he has changed to come out from Gate B! " And everyone would go there. After a while, there's un confirmed news that it might be A64, and again, they'll fly back there. Who knows, he walked out from gate B and Xu fans ran 400 meters in between Gate B and Gate A64 until presents were safetly in his hands. Thus, whenever during such events, running shoes are xu fans's needed.
Reporter have been following him till he leaves HK. Before he left the hotel, he asked his assistant, "Where are the presents they gave ? Don't forget to bring along."

ZZ didn't make it, Cai Yue Xun shouts that it's unfair

Who's the lost pearl in this year's Golden Bell Awards? Director Cai Yue Xun husband and wife feel sorry for ZZ. They can't believe that ZZ didn't get nominated and wants the judges to open their eyes again and look carefully.
"Mars," directed by Cai Yue Xun, was look upon as a popular nominee for this year's awards, including the male and female leads ZZ and Da S, drama and director, etc. The world have also thought they'd be seeing ZZ and Da S walk the red carpet.
However the nomination list for the Golden Bell Awards was announced yesterday and "Mars" wasn't nominated for anything. When Director Cai Yue Xun and his wife Yu Xiao Hui heard this, the thing they couldn't accept the most was that ZZ didn't get nominated.
Yu Xiao Hui said that when filming "Mars" everyone said to ZZ, "You will definitely get nominated!" At that time ZZ just laughed. Even Da S thought he would.
Cai Yue Xun believes that ZZ's acting had a lot of depth because he portrayed a guy with spiritual problems with a dark side. Perhpas small details can't compare with senior actors but the vitality emitted is very penetrating. In "Mars" anyone can not make the nomination list but ZZ should make it. Yu Xiao Hui shouted, "Do the judges need to take another careful look? How could this be?"

Ever since Lin Zhi Ling met with the horse accident, celebrities moms have been the person to speak. Seeing the news that hit Lin Zhi Ling, it seems like being a celebrity mom isn't easy at all. In the US, Los Angelas, there is a big celebrity mom and that's F4's Vanness Wu's Mummy. These 2 celebrity moms have a little similiarity.
Whenever Vanness's mom, Yao Mimi, wears a cheongsum and dresses up, she looks elegant and pretty. Her skin is not even comparable by a young persons' thus, she seems a little alike to Lin Zhi Ling's mom. However, both of them are celebrity moms, but Vanness's mom chose to open up her own career in the beauty arena. That's because, her son, Vanness Wu is a good boy and she need not worry about him. Yao Mimi said," He handles his own things, i don't have to worry for him."
Yao Mimi's full set of beauty career in Los Angelas, boosted a few years back and she opened even more branches. Vanness is not only his mummy's live advertisement, his fair skin takes "maintenance" from hsi mom.
Vanness leaves F4 and goes solo, he had returned to LA for awhile to prepare for his next solo album and also to practice kungfu for his next upcoming action packed movie. As to the results of it, the warmth of overseas fans tells all. Mummy hopes that her son, Vanness would continue to develop his entertainment career. As to carrying grandchildren, that can wait. Yao Mimi said, "It's not too late to start a family at 35 years old, now, it's to build his career."
Supporting one another, mom's company branching out, Vanness lengthen his stay in LA without hesitation to support his mom. Up Close with Vanness Wu

Vanness Wu of F4 fame has taken the entertainment scene by storm as a soloist. As a member of the biggest Taiwanese pop act, F4, it comes as no surprise that he is enjoying huge success on his own.
From the popular soap opera (Meteor Garden I and II), smash records (Meteor Rain, Body Will Sing, and Fantasy 4ever), music videos, and the Star Runner film, the versatile performer came into his own as singer-songwriter Michelle Branch's co-host at the recently concluded MTV Asia Awards 2004 in Singapore.
Remarkably, Vanness remains unassuming despite his success, as evident in the following rap session at the Fullerton Hotel the day before the Awards.
Are you excited to be co-hosting the MTV Asia Awards 2004?
- I'm pretty excited for the big event, yeah! When I first heard about this, yeah, I was pretty excited. And I just can't wait to do it!
Why do you think MTV picked you as a host?
- Pick me? I have no idea why they picked me! Probably because I could speak English.
Do you think that's your strength as a host?
- Well, in this sense, yeah. If you tell me to speak Mandarin in Taiwan, that wouldn't be my strong point but I will try my best at it. But, you know, probably just...I can goof off on stage probably. I'm really, you know, easygoing and willing to do anything just in the name of fun. I like to enjoy myself and have fun!
Time and again, you have changed your look in keeping with your pretty boy image, as you have now. What can you say about that?
- On being a pretty boy? Oh, no, this is just temporary! I mean, my hair was long; I was in America for a while, so it just grew out and then I had a change.
It's not really saying, like, "Okay, we're changing styles." We're just going for a different image all around. It's just enjoying yourself, you know -- have fun, have different looks, be different. You know?
But, you know, I'm still the same person as I am; I'm still the same person as I was before. And image is just image -- it's nothing
Is it difficult to maintain?
- The only thing difficult to maintain for me is my weight because I gain weight really easy. For the movie I lost a lot of weight.
How did you do that?
- I had a very strict diet of just vegetables and protein, and canned tuna fish. And that's all I ate! I didn't really eat anything too over the top like, say, you know, steak. I couldn't even touch it!
And just working out and shooting fighting scenes 10 hours a day, and just keep on intense working out. So that helped a lot, and I lost the weight with that.
But right after I was done, it's [blows a kiss] back to hamburgers and, you know, cheeseburgers and all that! It's difficult but it's fun, you know?
What's the story behind the movie?
- The story behind it? Actually, I was really lucky on this movie project because of everybody that worked on this movie gave it their 100% -- all their time and energy they spent, you know.
Nowadays it's hard to get an actor to have all his time and energy on one movie 'coz a lot of actors these days, they also do singing and they also do TV hosting, right, at the same time. So they only have, maybe, one week to shoot this part and then they gotta do something else.
But this time, the actress, the actors, the cast, the crew, the director -- everybody just, day and night, two and a half months straight; everybody was together and every day just seeing each other. And so towards the end of it we all became like a family. You know, like this family environment that even now, to this day -- me and the director, me and the trainers and the other actors -- we're still very close friends.
So out of that whole experience, anything I got out of it was just really good. A great experience and good friendships!
Any plans to do another movie?
- Hopefully, hopefully. Right now I'm just focusing a lot of my energy and time on my second book. And as soon as that's done and as soon as I'm finished promoting that, hopefully I'll be back to act as well.
Between singing and acting, which do you enjoy better?
- In one phrase it's so close and yet so far. So similar and so different, you know? They're both very, very draining at times, but then they're both so exhilarating, rewarding.
So when you're acting, you're working so hard, like, three days on just, maybe, two minutes' worth of footage. And then after the end of these months, you finally see the [finished] product on the big screen and you're, like, "Wow!" It's a whole different feeling!
With singing it's on stage and you're singing to the audience, and you're feeding off their reaction. You're feeding off their energy, you know? And you're just going for an hour and a half straight of just, like, jumping around and moving around.
"They're so different but, at the same time, it's such a high!"
Nowadays do you still get excited on stage?
- Well, of course! You know, I'm always excited when I'm on stage to see fans, to see people, to be able to perform. It's always exciting!
And which song do you enjoy performing most?
- Which song? There are so many songs! And they're all so different, and they're all nice. So there isn't one that I particularly like to perform, but...just pick one? Really, I can't!
I just love the different crowds and the people, so to pick one...? Because they all have different reactions to them I really can't, I'm sorry!
You used to dance before joining F4?
- It was just for fun, while we were growing up as kids, I was in a dance group. Me and another friend, and Kenny of Machi -- we would do dance competitions at car shows and stuff like that. That was when I really enjoyed being on stage! To get on stage and just dancing, and then hear the crowd just bouncing and cheering and everything -- that's when I realized, "I like this feeling!" It's cool, you know?
How do you feel about the phenomenal success of F4 in the Asian region and in the Philippines in particular, where there is a language barrier?
- I take it as a blessing; it's a gift from God, yeah. It's not every day that many people will be able to do what they love to do and to be able to cross boundaries of one so big, you know, to not even understand what the person is saying but for them to welcome me into their homes and country, and to be able to enjoy their culture and to learn new experiences -- it's very humbling. I just hope I'm not taking it for granted.
What is it about the group or your music that you think people can relate to?
- To be honest, I think it was just the TV show. It was a good TV show! It had good chemistry; it had a good story. The characters were just fun, and there wasn't really anything behind it! ...We just wanted to make people enjoy a good show, you know; have a good time while they're watching, you know, an hour of that segment of that show. It wasn't saying, "Oh, we're gonna make new boundaries with these."
When we heard that Indonesia liked us, you know, "What?" When we heard that, you know, Thailand was... I heard that call, "Huh?" And then the last one, they said, Philippines, I went, "Oh, my God! Get out! Really?" And then, "They want you guys to go!"
I have a lot of Filipino friends when I was growing up in high school. So when I told my friends, "You know, I'm going to the Philippines," [they said] "I haven't been to the Philippines in 19 years and you're going to perform there? That's funny!" It's funny the way things work, but it's very nice!
Do you get jealous of each other's individual success, considering some of you are bigger than the others?
- Well, I don't think we're necessarily bigger; we just have a different fan base. We don't really look at it as who's bigger, who's what. We just look at it as what we each have to give; we each have different enjoyments, you know, working.
Mine is I like to sing and dance, and we all like acting, of course.
But it's just different types of characters, too.
I'm really an active type of person: I love running around, jumping around, and just goofing off. So for the first movie when they told me it was gonna be an action movie, I was, like, " Yes! " I was, like, " Oh, yeah! "
And so that was awesome, but we're really happy for each other! And everything that everybody else does, we're really excited for each other.
Have you guys seen American Idol? You know, Clay and Reuben? Like he said, the media doesn't want to talk about them unless, you know, they say they're at each other's throats; unless they don't like each other.
It's kinda the same for us, too: People say that we don't get along and then we're not friends, and all that stuff. But the thing is if we don't get along, why would any of us be here today? Or for the premiere of my movie in Taiwan, why would the rest of them all show up?
The media was very surprised that the rest of them showed up, actually. And I was, like, "Why? We're friends, you know! What's wrong with you?" They're so into their own world and they're so into, like, what they write down; what they believe is true. By some meaning, I don't know how they fathom all that stuff up! But it's so funny that they believe what they write so immensely, you know? And in the end it's like,
"Hello! You know? What is this? You know? "

After the concert 30 minutes.
Host : How about this concert in Thailand? Are you tired?
Vanness : Not much, the concert was very enjoy. There were a lot of fans. I feel happy and so pround.
Host : Why do you have the concert in Thailand too late? Because we saw you in the other concerts in other countries.
Jerry : Because each person was busy. For example, if I'm free, the other 3 are busy.
Host : Vic... Many fans left a spirit for you, because of they saw your hand hurt since at the airport.
ZaiZai : Thank you very much. I'm very utterly happy!
Host : And you might be the person who knows Thailand more than the others. How much Thai can you speak?
Ken : Not very much. The most words I could speak are about on the bus or shopping.
H : May I ask you a question, just kidding, if you can change the person between F4. Who do you want to be?
V : Vic is better. Because he has a comfortable life, he can sleep all day. (laugh)
ZZ : Then, I choose to be Vanness. Just cut new hair style (strange style), he can cheat many girls...(laugh)
H : Maybe you often change your hair style as same as a girlfriend?
V : No! I just like to change the hair style!
H : And Jerry, who do you want to be?
J : I want to be Vic, too. Because his life has only sleep and eat. I see he's happy. (laugh)
K : In fact, I'd like to be Vic, too. But his hand hurts now, I don't want already. (laugh)
H : If you have a free day. Where do you want to travel in Thailand?
ZZ : I ever went to Sa-mui Island. It was very fun. If I have a chance, I'll go there again.
H : Will you wear a swimming suit and run on the beach as same as the children?
ZZ : I might not (laugh), actually when I travel, Ialways wear a shirt, shorts, and slippers.
H : And the others, where do you want to travel?
J : I'd like to travel to Sa-mui Island, too. Because I've ever heard from Vic, and I interested.
ZZ : Eh! I forgot. There is Phuket Island, too.
V : I've ever seen a commercial on TV and an advertisement in a book about Phuket Island before. It's very beautiful. If you ask me, where I want to travel, I'll travel there.
H : The house of the fans here also beautiful, would you like to go?
V : If I'm free, I'll go... (laugh)
K : I've ever travelled the Sa-mui Island with Vic, I felt it's very beautiful. But there's many place I want to go more, such as (Ken spoke Thai) Haad-Yai, Cheang Mai.
H : If you can choose a girl ride a motorbike with you, same as a commercial. How about the girl do you want?
K : Every style. If you see me ride the motorbike alone, you can jump to behind my back!!
ZZ : In fact, presenter in the commercial, she's okay. I don't know how to tell my ideal girl.
V : It's better, if you want someone ride the motorbike for you, please call me to be a chauffeur. (laugh)
J : If I am, I need a big motorbike, very very big, because I'll take many many girls if I can do.
H : Nowadays, how about your work?
V : I'm preparing my 2nd album, because this album I compose songs, produce by my self. I'd like to hurry finish it. For the future I'll promote the album in Thailand again. (Grzzzz I always welcome back Vanness!!)

K : I just finished a drama of CCTV, too. It might on air in this year. And I have a new commercial of Yamaha, too.
H : For the future, if you are not a singer, what do you want to do out side the entertainment?
V : Er...(so long) I'm busy about the new album now. So I don't have a time to think about the future. I'll answer you next time.
J : I'd like to play baseketball. I might be a baseketball player.
ZZ : I'd like to use independent life as same as a farmer.
K : There are many works are waiting for me. And I'm waiting for my sister come back from Paris. And I think we'll have a restaurant, or not , I might work about the behind.
