Well after decideing that Aikido wasn't right for me I started looking around a bit for a new school. I really like Kung Fu and Ninpo so I was looking mostly for those schools. All the places around or close to me that offered any sort of Kung-Fu doesn't seem to. And I found a school that teaches various forms on Ninpo plus Kenjutsu so I was really geared up for that. Went there today and found out they are closeing at the end of next month because they don't have enough students. This seriously sucks. He did say that they may reopen at a different location later but was unsure. I gave him my info just in case. He also mentioned two places to look into so I did.

The first place was a Brazilian Ju-Jitsu school. I'm not real into ground fighting. To me it almost appears like wrestling(no offense to anyone). and the other school offers alot of things according to the Yellow Page ad but, their internet site says different. They do however offer Jeet Kune Do which I'd consider but, they advertised Wing Chun and Hapkido although it isn't listed with their website. They are not open again until monday so I can't call to talk to anyone.

I am seriously frustrated and I don't know what I should do. I want a whole slew out of the martial arts. I know if has much to offer and I want to take advantage of all of it. It just sucks that I can't find a school that teaches what I want.

I know basically what JKD is. Would anyone here be able to give more info and/or recommend it? I know Bruce Lee studied Wing Chun but, how far off is JKD from WC?

Any help or suggestions would be seriously welcome. And thanks for letting me rant a little.

Thanks Guys. I'm sure things will turn out fine. It is just a little frustrateing right now. I have the Tao of Jeet Kune Do and that gives a bit of insite into JKD. I'll head up there on the next day for that class and check it out. Hopefully it looks good and things will work out. The only bad thing is they are about 40 minutes away.

I never planed on doing any form of TKD I was way more interested in kung fu of any type and kendo but I just kind of fell into Chung Do Kwon and I think I will be doing it until I no longer have the ability hell I am even thinking about opening a school in the future
Anyway my point is you never know what kind of gem you will find
exclaim 40 MIN AWAY I would have to fill my tank like 2 times a week if I added that kind of distance to my everyday driving exclaim

40 minutes away is roughly the distance no matter where I go. I guess it is the price one pays to practice an art.

Well, it really all depends. Are you practicing the art for self defense, or for just learning the art(yes, those are two different things)

I'm practiceing for all the benefits I can reap actually. Self Defense, Spiritual connection, health and fitness, for the beauty of it, strength gains and self confidence, etc. There is so much as to why I want to study it. Definately more than just to do it or for the sport of it. I really don't need it as a hobby or anything like that at all.

My 'city' is litteraly littered with TaeKwonDo schools. When I first started, there were only maybe three schools somewhat far from eachother, then a huge McDojo (franchise) moved in about fifty feet away from us, and now a new place has started up about the same distance from a dojang/jo that was already there. I think one of the originals teaches KungFu, TaeKwonDo, and more.
That's Fredericksburg for ya.

It does seem like you can't swing a dead cat in my town without hitting some sort of martial arts school. A lot of them are decent, but there are a few flash and trash ones around. I drive about 40 minutes to get to my dojo too. Most of my students live right by it and the dues more than covers my gas so I can't complain. There are a few members on here that travel as much as 4 hour to get to their schools.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu looks alot like wrestling? Okay, you obviously don't know much about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. And I'm not in the mood to explain it.

I think he already made it clear that he didnt know much about BJJ. If you werent in the mood to explain anything then what was the purpose of your response?

Im sure to alot of people who have never trained in the style it resembles wrestling. Im sure they share some similarities. I think its good to have some ground experience, but I think all in all the style bases its principles on some very dangerous assumptions. Still, its a piece of a greater whole and Im sure its not without some benifit to someone trying to be a complete martial artist.
