Oh no. Oh no no no no. This.. this wasn't happening. This COULDN'T be happening. It'd been one night of fun- one night!- and now all of this was coming to surface. No matter how many times she looked into the pond's reflective surface, or how much she sucked in, there was no denying that she'd put on weight. A LOT of weight- moreso than a normal, healthy lioness was supposed to have! Which, unfortunately, meant only one thing.

Cubs. There wasn't any telling of how many there'd be, but.. there was definitely life squirming within her. HIS cubs, to be more precise about it. Sighing lightly, Kiwi pondered on what to do about this. She could slip back to the swamplands with the cub, but... that would be going without a name. And that was the whole reason she left, wasn't it? So that was terribly out of the question.

Or, she could go and find Mkaa again. But.. how would he react? What if, when she told him, he was angry? Or just simply.. left? Honestly, she wasn't sure if her constitution could handle either of the options terribly well. Frowning slightly at her reflection, Kiwi lowered a paw into the water, stirring it about slightly.

"So then..." she hummed quietly to herself, tone somewhere between sadness and worry, "to tell him or not?"

Mkaa had less idea than ever what he wanted to do. He hunted with the pride, trying to be useful, but truthfully it was quite an alarming ordeal- especially when hunting in a large group. Then there was the more solitary job of scouting, but that held more potential for serious chaos, not just hunting. Then there was Kiwimbi.. he was never like that. Never managed to be social enough to really make a friend, or whatever.. they were. Or had been..

He was very, very confused.

And then he was surprised when he spotted the familiar shade of blue in the distance. He was definitely not the type to look for others, or even approach them once he did spot them but.. Kiwi was an exception, he might be confused but he knew he liked her. And what was wrong with that?

"Kiwi," he called, picking up his feet and jogging closer.

"Mkaa..." She spoke lightly- some hint of happiness returning to her voice. Turning slightly so that she might see him as he approached, she offered up a friendly smile. Well. So much for avoiding him altogether... sitting more upright, she forcibly turned herself back to the pond. How was she going to tell him...? He'd been so... skittish, when they'd met... and now what? Oh, I'm having your children? Biting her lower lip, Kiwi's ears dropped slightly. Was it going to be possible to tell him this without breaking him?

Turning to face him fully- this action, she realized halfway through it with a minor pause, would surely show him how bloated she'd become- the happy-but-scared smile remained upon her face. Swallowing heavily, she attempted to sit as steadfast and unafraid as possible.

"We need to talk." Well. That didn't sound very good at all, did it? Considering it again a moment, Kiwi figured it best to attempt and soften the conversation slightly. It wasn't the greatest news, yes, but... it could at least be a somewhat joyous occasion?

"I-I mean, I think you deserve to know. I.. I think I'm happy about it, but I'm concerned about you, too. ..You might want to sit down."

He was smiling, he wasn't that anxious and he was pleased to see he got a smile in return when he called out. He was no master of social interaction, but he was OK with one-on-one. Kiwi was quickly reaching up as high as his parents and his sister in his mind, he wanted to think they were that close. His optimistic thoughts were interrupted, though, when she frowned. Her smile did not need to change, the rest of her body was frowning. Unfortunately for Kiwi, Mkaa's sister had had cubs and he knew what a pregnant female looked like. Fortunately, though, he wasn't looking for it and was more worried about her words than her appearance.

"W-what's wrong?" he said, tensing and tilting his head at her slightly- but he did not sit down as she recommended. The suggestion never really made it through to him.

It was heartbreaking to see his face fall as it did; it was never her intention to hurt Mkaa, and she was terribly fond of the other lion. Seeing him hurt... a pang of guilt ran through her, as well. Trying to remain as optimistic as possible, and NOT panic- which definitely wasn't happening!- Kiwi ran her paw absent-mindedly through the grass.

"I... can't you tell?" She asked, tilting her head to the side as she looked at him. To her, at least, it felt extraordinarily obvious; that might've been the extra weight talking, though. Looking down to her distended belly, now, she drew a deep breath. Might as well tell him now, if she was going to... looking back up, and looking Mkaa straight in the eyes, she attempted a smile as she spoke.

"I'm pregnant." She turned, slightly, to try and show the developing belly better; it was obvious, yes, but at a different angle, maybe it'd be moreseo...? Offering a nervous laugh, Kiwi waited to see his reaction.

"Surprise?"

He didn't register that she looked down to her own middle, he kept his eyes on hers and not where they went. She was so serious, he couldn't begin to imagine why, truthfully. Sometimes was up but.. there were so few.. things it could be. Something he should notice? His mind wandered too quickly, his well-practiced pessimistic imagination going wild.. until she said exactly what was wrong.

Mkaa blinked and then looked down to her middle, then back up to her eyes- and then did a startled double-take at her middle, jumping back a bit. It was as if her belly had just jumped out. He stared at her middle now, speechless. And finally.. he sat down.

That... wasn't what she had expected. Blinking as well, she waited for something more- anger, sadness... any kind of expression, really. The uneasy silence where she didn't know what he was thinking was going to kill her. As he looked from her eyes to her belly, for the first time, she felt... embarrassed. Weird. She was just about to break eye contact when Mkaa jumped before her, and Kiwi nearly did as well.

The shift in body-position was far more uncomfortable than she'd expected, and it took her a minute to settle herself down once more. Relaxing slightly from her jump, she returned to watching Mkaa for his reaction again, and waiting. At least... he was sitting down now? Flicking her ears once... twice... three times, now... she attempted to remain as calm and collected as possible- which, considering the circumstances, was a bit difficult. Finally standing up again, she hobbled a bit closer to Mkaa, sitting closer to him- but still at a respectable enough distance.

"..They're yours." She finally added at last, waiting to see if that would get a bit more telling of a reaction.

His eyes did not move, even when she jumped and eventually moved closer. His eyes were already out of focus when she moved, he was staring at her but beyond her at the same time. Mkaa was not a social lion, but he was not completely without understanding. She would not be so nervous if they were not his, unless.. but no, no. She made it clear the full reason she was so upset was that they were his. He had pushed such possibilities from his mind when nothing happened sooner, when everything seemed to go back to normal..

Finally he realized he should probably be saying something. He looked up at Kiwi again, his ears turning and unable to help but frown. It all felt like he was being scolded.

"I- I'm sorry," he muttered, not sure what else she was looking for.

He was... apologizing? Now greatly confused herself, Kiwi blinked a bit, trying to figure out what he was sorry for. Finally, it clicked; he.. thought she was mad about being pregnant! Oh gods Eyes widening slightly, Kiwi quickly shook her head, standing up and hobbling over once more.

"Oh, no no no, I'm not mad!" She added quickly, trying to take as kind and friendly of a tone as possible. Giving a weak smile, she couldn't help but laugh in embarrassment. Sitting once more, Kiwi furrowed her brow slightly in thought.

"I'm not mad at all, Mkaa. Scared, yes... and a bit worried... but not mad at you, I promise!" This was a bit humoring, at least. But maybe that wasn't the right word; easier? Something like that. Now that she knew he wasn't... mad at her, this was a great deal easier to speak with him about. Readjusting her position- the shame in hiding the belly was gone, as he wasn't angry with her- Kiwi tried to continue as best possible.

"I was afraid.. you would be angry." She admitted softly, able to bring her eyes to his once more. "And if anything, I didn't want to hurt you. You're.. close to me, and I wouldn't want to lose that."

Looking to herself once more, she sighed lightly. "They'll be lovely cubs, at least. Do you think... we can raise them well?"

"You're not?" he asked, perking up a bit but not looking completely convinced. It was easiest to react when he thought she was angry with him, then all he had to do was apologize- but something told him, despite the new twisted feeling in his middle, that this was better. Scared and worried, she said, describing his own feelings with those two words as well as her own. He looked down again when she moved closer, sitting nearer. Her belly was pretty obvious, but now she looked more comfortable at least..

"W-why would I be mad?" he asked, stammering after she said they were close and she didn't want to lose that. It was optimistic, they would figure everything out together. She wasn't just telling him out of courtesy, she did want his help.. wanted him? Maybe.

Then he realized.

"Kiwi, aren't you- I mean- your home..?"

"Not mad at all," she admitted honestly, still staring at the life stirring within her. "I.. always thought how nice it must be, to be a mother." Kiwi spoke, relating the thoughts she had been reassuring herself with when she first discovered her condition. "I.. didn't spend much time with my mother. I was taken as a cub, to where I live now, and.. it was always a bit of a dream, to be honest." Laughing slightly at how childish she sounded, Kiwi moved to lay down as comfortably as possible.

"I met you, and... I thought about it again. I don't know why, it almost felt like I was a little girl again. Head over heels, and I was too scared to do anything about it- it was me not wanting to hurt you." Frowning slightly, Kiwi pressed forward. "I knew I would be leaving, and.. I didn't want to hurt you. But then, I didn't expect to... get so close." Her tone was nervous, once more. Finishing her story, she looked up, ready to hear the rest of what he would say. When he asked of her home, she tilted her head slightly.

"...I was hoping you might consider joining me." Kiwi spoke quietly, desperately trying not to break eye contact despite wanting to.

"I-it's fine, if not... I suppose I could stay here, I just.." Swallowing heavily, she finally broke and looked away.

"You.. might like it, I think. My home."

He looked at Kiwi with wide, pale eyes. She was so amazing, there was just something about her. She was worried but she was so excited and she was being so honest. He almost felt out of place beside her, it wasn't fair to her. He wasn't without his own confidence, but there was something worrying about this particular situation. He couldn't be so lucky, but here she was, and here they were and.. she wanted him to go with her. Asking her to stay here was not a possibility, that much was evident in her voice. She had lived here when she was young but her pride was home, he would not know it existed if she had intended to stay here.

"What's it like?" he asked, his ears finally turning forward once again and staying here. He still looked nervous but he was feeling.. better.

Her smile turning more to that of a romantic's, obviously lost in the memories of her faraway home. But.. how could she possibly describe it? Breathing deeply, Kiwi began.

"It's nothing like it is here. The ground is soft and wet, and it smells like.. rain. The rain, and mud, always. It's wonderful." Closing her eyes slightly at this, she dreamily continued on. "It's so much smaller than the Pridelands, and everyone knows each other. We're.. so much more of a family, it's wonderful. The pride is strong about its Goddess, and.. everything, really. It's a whole new world."

Eyes fluttering over, she looked to Mkaa once more, unaware she had been so deeply lost in her thoughts. "Everyone's so nice there, it's incredible. You'd honestly love it, if you give it time to grow on you."

Pausing a moment, she seemed to ruffle a slight bit in embarrassment. "It took me a while, as a girl, to learn to love it, but... it's home, now. I can't think of a more wonderful place."

Offering a cheery smile, Kiwi's ears flicked up. "Even... if you decide not to live there.. will you at least visit?"

Mkaa listened carefully, trying to repeat every detail she said in hopes of remembering, preparing himself. There were no other options, he would go for Kiwi, for their cubs.. and he would adjust. It was a relief to hear it was smaller, that was likely to be the biggest problem for him. Knowing everybody might make it less terrifying even at a large size, though it would make it harder to keep to yourself. But there could be no more of that, either. His eyes fell to Kiwi's middle again, wondering just how many cubs were in there. He had so many siblings, how would he handle if she had that many? Tearh had only had two, though. What about Kiwi?

"I'll go with you," he said, his ears turning back again but now he smiled sheepishly up at her, "I have to. Will they let me stay?" He didn't have much idea of how you go about joining any other pride, he knew rogues often joined the Pridelands but he knew not all prides were the same.

When she looked to Mkaa, she'd expected him to need time- a chance to speak with his family, or at least consider what he was doing. But... no. He seemed so happy, so eager to- just for her sake. She could feel tears coming to her eyes, and looked away quickly in the hopes that Mkaa wouldn't notice. It was just... wonderful how kind and understanding he was. Finally rising once more, she weakly shuffled to sit next to Mkaa, leaning her head upon his shoulder ever-so-gently. Sighing softly, she closed her eyes and smiled.

"They have to, Mkaa. I.. I can't think of anyone turning away someone as kind and wonderful as you." She spoke lightly, turning to press her face lightly into his shoulder.

"Honestly, I can't tell you how wonderful you are."
