Since killing your units is encouraged in order to obtain Gaiden chapters (and since almost none of the cast has personality anyway...), who will you keep, and who will/have you kill/ed, Gaiden goers?

Bord and Cord can go die, as far as I'm concerned. They have retarded names. I'm going to just stop using Jagen eventually... perhaps I'll set him loose on some enemy knights with an iron sword, just to see how he does.
Cain is already dead. He was still level one when I got to Prologue 4, so I just let him be the decoy.
But I have noticed the lack of personality of the people... They just kinda cram a million people onto you in the early chapters, and all those people (like Bord and Cord) don't really say much.
So far I'm pretty impressed with Frey, Caeda, Castor, Gordin, that mage from chapter 4 (Merric, I think), Julian, and Ogma. And if I have to pick a healer, I'd rather have the girl than the old bald guy. I know that doesn't sound very nice, buuut... Oh, and Navarre was pretty awesome.

Navarre seemed so cool! And I love his hair and official art. But... I decided to drop him due to the Swordmaster nerf and the fact that he's a mostly inferior version of Abel :/. Better Str, Skl, and Spd in exchange for HP and Luck? Yes plz.
Barst seems great. Though I might consider using Cord next time. He looks like he'd make a decent Dark Mage. His Skill seems shaky though.
I was nervous about mages being unproductive, but Merric is great! I'm really liking him so far.

Merric is awesome! His growths and face remind be a lot of FE 6 Lugh. 8D
He also reminds me of Wolt in the respect that he's Marth's best friend.
I freaking love Caeda too. I think she's almost capped speed at level 8.
Do you know what's sad? Due to my habits of heal staff abuse, my Lena's level is much higher than my other units. Level 12, as opposed to my other highest unit, Abel, who is level 10.
And Barst is making a kick-arse mercanary for me right now. Let's not forget Ogma...
Although... those three peg knights in... I believe chapter 6? I really have to kill them? There's no way to recruit them it looks like, but attempting to fight them results in Marth getting skewered by a silver lance. Yes, I found out Marth CAN be hurt, but it takes extremes.
He's not a bad starting lord at all if you compare him to some.

So far, the only ones I've killed off are Jagen, Gordin, and Frey.
-Jagen was my sacrifice.
-I wanted to get Norne, so I killed off Gordin because I didn't want more than one bow unit.
-I don't like that many cavaliers, so Frey was eliminated by a flip of a coin.
My team (currently) consists of Marth, Abel, Cain, Norne, Merric, Ogma, Navarre, Caeda, Lena, and occasionally Julian. I'm... a small team person. 8D;;;
I'm only on chapter seven, though (the chapter where you get Bantu).

The only ones I've killed off are those I've really killed because I couldn't figure out how to recruit them.
However...
One of the three peg sisters got off'd. This is SO ironic. I was on the level with the ballisticians I think, and one of them was charging headlong to where I left Marth alone. She had a silver lance, and I didn't want her skewering Marth, so I shot her.
She flew up, talked to Marth, joined him, and then next turn, an enemy ballista shot and killed her.
I didn't restart, because Caeda is my main flyer.
And when Merric finally promotes, I'll have a healer, so I can then turn Lena into a Dracoknight. Her stats are rockin' as a flier, and magic users can't even touch her! She's amazing.

I killed Shiida.
And I felt so good doing it, because like, she just annoyed me alot so I checked and as soon as I got all the people she could get
I sent her off on a nice little trip to see some archers

Yeah, I'll probably use Hardin next time (I'm already plainning my second run party). Maybe Navarre too. He is really good looking, despite his growths not impressing me too much.
Shiida WILL definitely be cut down next playthrough though, in favor of Catria and possibly Palla. She's been really blessed in my current playthrough though.

Nomad Rath NAVARRE AND HARDIN KILLER! D: *raises hand* I killed them both, too! XD So, like, my team is: Marth, Sheeda, Abel, Cain, Freyr, Norne, Oguma, Barts, Lena, Julian, Merric, Radd, Minerva, Linde, and Nagi, when I get her. Everyone else is dead, except for Beck, who I couldn't kill off last chapter. XP So far, Radd is totally better than Navarre, too... X3 And Linde is gonna be my offensive Bishop, where Lena is gonna be the staff-based one. XP Now that I've found out that there is no way whatsoever to get a Falcoknight, I'm contemplating killing off Minerva, too.

Then you should know I'll probably kill him next playthrough (I'm using Hardin for sure though). Sure I like him, but there are too many other units I want to try.

I can't remember who I've got on my serious playthrough, but I killed literally everybody except Marth, Nabarl, Norne and Radd on another file. I got a replacement character - a cavalier - called Athos, which amused me. There's also Ida the pirate, who has a rather odd name.

Orly? *tries to get into WifI, which hates DSes, failed* D: Most of the units look like total crap. D: Like, everyone you get at the beginning is good, but then, like, everyone from Ch.8's Roger onwards suck. Except the Peg Knights, who look capable. :3
