Ok I've been wanting to do this for a while now, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on where I could find stuff to help me with it.

I'm trying to put a a Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts storyline into book format. I know it sound time consuming, but with such great storylines in the games I feel like reading them instead of spending weeks playing the games to enjoy the story (not that I have anything against the games).

So I was wondering if anyone knew where I could maybe get a hold of some storyboards, if not that I was wondering if maybe anyone wants to turns this into a guild project to play through the Final Fantasy games and write down the dialoge of the characters as they go. We could do all the games eventually, but we would probably start with something like FF7 or one of the other highers since they all have pretty good storylines.

If anyone has any useful information (story boards from square and such other reliable sources) or is interested in playing through the games and writing a copy of the dialogue and actions of the characters and such (maybe we could add battle scene moments for the hell of it, and side quest stuff at the end as extras?).

You could maybe look on FanFiction.com. I wouldn't be surprised if someone wrote the games in story form.

But, it's funny that you bring this up, because I've recently re-started FFIII, writing down the dialogue as I go. I'm thinking of re-writing it in a way that gives it a lot more character depth, plus a lot more detail.

This would be an interesting project for the guild, though. :]

nice, well write down caracter actions too while you are at it, this project might acctually be possible if we gather together enough information.

I'm thinking of starting FF9 again even though I just beat the game a few weeks back, the story moves me that much.

I'd help if i could, but I'm pretty busy lately. It does sound like an interesting project, though. If you need any help with it, just let me know, and I'll see what I can do...

Fanfiction.net occasionally has novelizations of games, and sometimes you can find game scripts on GameFaqs and the like.

There we go, I never thought to use the word script in my searches! Now I have access to a couple of game scripts and I can put them into book form.
Thanks ArikaHart

It kills me that there aren't any scripts for III.

At least, I haven't been able to find one. :P

This is an interesting idea... I could help out with anything if you need it. Its kinda a step up from RPing but I think I should be able to help a bit. ( As long as my grades don't fall anymore though sweatdrop )

Not bad idea. I instantly thought of using dialog script and Walkthrough together for reading the story. With novelizations there may be some 'artistic liberalities' taken... wink So just quick-checking story from someone who's played the game or being critical should be enough. biggrin

It sounds awesome; I have wished for something of the sort before. 3nodding But... yeah, I agree about artistic license... I'd think it would be kind of hard to keep it from being dry or messing up pacing without adding a bunch of stuff between events. I mean, in most games walking across a continent is fairly quick and just interspersed with a few random encounters. In a book, you can't really have it go that fast, and random battles get boring to read after a while.

Yea, I've just come to some of the same conclusions, I'm going to need some serious filler for the in betweens, because these scripts are quite dry.

So I'm thinking about putting the script together while asking for opinions on filler for each section. That or assign people to each have their own sections to fill in with story, but I really don't like that option, because even thought it saves time, it will make the story very choppy by having multiple writing styles.

Either way, step one is going to be picking a Final Fantasy (or other square game) to start with. So I'm going to add a poll for you all to vote on.

Hope to get some more support from you all like you have been.

You wouldn't have too much trouble with that, I don't think. You could use a time skip during the times they're supposed to be traveling great distances (like, idk, 'three weeks after they set off from [], Yuna and her guardians arrived in [], weary from their trek and hoping for a decent night's lodging', or whatever).

I think the biggest problem (if you want others to read these) would be careful to not let your opinions infulence your writing, especially where pairings or characterization is concerned. You might be a huge Yuffintine fan, but you couldn't really do anything there for fear of alienating the Reffie fans; you might think Ashe is a whiny b***h, but you can't write her like that if you want Ashe fans to read it.

Of course, but that's just one problem... The other is those moments that that storyboard writer wrote from behind a wall of fog (scenes like the cloud and tifa at the crater). Can't tell what the original writers envisioned so.

Yup, that goes for any character interaction. You are on quite firm base on how to check your personal opinions. Guild has done a lot of work on that matter to compare and ponder over characters and details. There is plenty of interesting and reasonable threads about what and how certain characters work and why.

Filler - good, but not too much. Especially if you want to stick with real storyline. People could discuss and make suggestions what kind of miniscenes could be between main events. Those doesn't need to be too big, mostly just a short reminder of what normal things characters might have done is enough. (Barret's grumbling, occasional note of past argument with Yuffie or Cid, indirect notion of some small occurrence on the road...) There is endless amount of possibilities without having it affecting to main story or changing image of characters to too much of what writer thinks they are.

Cross-reading is advised. biggrin And that would be also fun.

Yup, yup, everyone has such good ideas. ^_^

I think it would be best to do X first. The facial expressions and whatnot would be really helpful, and... I like it better than XII. stare XII would probably be easiest, though, because they're traveling over a shorter distance, so you can get away with less filler, and it's less about the characters than the others, so you don't have to be as careful about that either.
