January 109

A lone figure walked leisurely through the frost-laden field, taking deep breaths of the crisp, fresh air. Her petite body was huddled under a thick, long orange jacket, which trailed in the soft snow behind her. Rosy cheeks and serious grey eyes adorned her small face as the young woman made her way to a nearby bench. Settling herself down, she exhaled a frosted sigh and closed her eyes.

Troubled? A male voice filtered through her mind like a gentle breeze. The girl opened her eyes with a soft smile. "Dear one, I am never troubled when you are near," she replied in earnest. She watched as a blue-hued wolf stepped lightly towards her, his tail trailing in the snow.

Then why is your mind clouded?

Rubbing against his rider, Zephyr looked into the eyes of Daiyu. She reached out and gave his shoulder a caress. "Just thinking," she assured him, "Do not worry about me."

That's my job, Daiyu, Zephyr reminded her, falling dramatically into the snow and resting his head on her lap. He closed his blue eyes. Do you wish to tell me what is wrong, or would you like me to find out for myself?

Her face lit up, and she leaned her head down to kiss the top of his head. "You are very sweet, Zeph. I am sure you already realize why I am troubled. Yet you continue to let me think my mind is my own."

Zephyr gave a fake growl and tugged on her jacket.
Your mind will always be your own, My Rider. I will just be there, as well.

She hid a giggle behind her hand. Leaning back, she continued to stroke her wolf as she voiced her concerns aloud. "We have not been privates long, Zephyr. You and I are both young, and I...," her words stopped as she thought how best to put forth her emotions.

Yes. You are worried that, without your Patron, you will not do so well. Perhaps, though, you will finally be able to shine. Zephyr rose, shaking off the stray flakes of ice that clung to his fine coat. Placing both paws on the bench, he licked Daiyu's cheek reassuringly. Forget your troubles. Let's explore the fort.

Rising, Daiyu tickled the wolf's ear. "Oh, very well. You will always be my better half, won't you?"

Chuckling, Zephyr leapt up, tossing snow everywhere as he landed.
Better, no. More fun, perhaps! he said with a grin.

A black-clad figure moved stealthily over the field, a dark contrast against the bright white snow beneath the crunching made by footfalls. A black hate also topped off the figure's head, hiding all but a few stray strands of light brown peaking out from the back. The dark long coat billowed softly at his feet, swaying with each heavy step made by thick boots in the snow. Black gloves also adorned the hands, held loosely on either side and swinging lightly in time with the figure's strides.

Rayan paused for a moment to glance back his shoulder, eyes squinting against the sun glinting off the snow. But the familiar pink was not visible anywhere, so he continued on his trek to get as far away as possible from his barracks. And the reason he was in all black? Well, the last time he went White Ops, it took Rose two days to find him (only because that traitor Damien had decided to tell the pink wolf where he was hiding). Since then, she had been assuming he'd be trying to camouflage into the snow, so she pounced on everything white and moving. So he figured by dressing in complete black, Rose wouldn't completely overlook him.

Wishful thinking, but it'd been working so far.

Soft murmurs reached his ears and Rayan looked around until he spotted a mass of blue fur, the familiar long feathers from the brooch confirming that it was Zephyr. A closer examination and he soon saw the rider as well, grinning to himself as he approached the pair in a rather confident stride.

"Enjoying the rare sunshine, beautiful?" Rayan called out when he was within a few feet of the young woman, though he stopped where he was in case the wolf decided to act protectively. A charming smile was plastered on his face, the sparkle in his eyes genuine though perhaps a tad suggestive as he looked Daiyu over.

Startled, Daiyu turned to face the smiling figure of Rayan. Recognition set, and she blushed a deep pink, eyes falling to the snow covered ground. "Good...good morning, Rayan," she answered softly, feeling the heat at her cheeks. She was always nervous around men, and Rayan, especially with his good looks, was no exception. Remembering her manners, Daiyu stood up straight and gave a drop of her head; a Chinese sign of respect and greeting that her grandmother had taught her.

Zephyr, after a glance at his human, made a slight bow of his head, too. His piercing eyes glanced over the young man. What was that strange glint in the boy's eye? Zephyr wasn't sure he liked it.

[OoC: Did Vixie or Foxxie invade our RP?! XD]

Rayan's smile widened just a tad at her stutter - how he loved the effect he had on the majority of women. Being the (somewhat) narcissistic man that he was, he could never grow tired of receiving validation (subtle or otherwise) from women that he was irresistibly attractive. But he had never really understood Daiyu's way of showing respect, the whole head bobbing thing which he knew had something to do with her heritage - Rayan had been military trained since youth and so he only followed the wolfrider ways. However, that didn't mean he didn't appreciate her respectful attitude.

Seeing Zephyr bob his head as well, Rayan was amused at how much humanistic traits the wolves always showed. Deciding to ease the anxiety out of Daiyu for her, he finally stepped forward in a few long strides and threw his arm around her shoulders - in a friendly manner, sexual implication would come later. But he still kept one watchful eye on the wolf, just in case. "So what's my beautiful girl up to this morning? Care to take a stroll with me?"

(OoC: Thanks to whoever did. XD)

Still a hue of pink flitting across her cheeks, Daiyu tensed her body at his touch. She wasn't used to the touch of a male still; her recruit days were filled with work and training, not boys. Zephyr felt her nerves rise, and automatically acted. With a low growl, he bared his fangs at the man - not quite sure why exactly, but still on guard for his rider.

"Oh! No, it is alright, Dear One," Daiyu squeaked in surprise to her wolf, a smile appearing on her lips. "Rayan means no harm."

Then why are you so tense, Daiyu? came his response, his growl fading in his throat, though his eyes stayed ever-watchful. He wiggled slightly. Why was HE feeling tension in his shoulders, when it was Daiyu who was nervous?

"It is nothing. I'm fine. Truly." She gave a small smile at Rayan, her pink cheeks finally fading away to their normal shade. It wasn't like he was touching her anywhere inappropriate, she reminded herself.

Oh. Finally understanding, Zephyr lowered his defensive stance. He gave a light bark and flopped down into the snow again. Humans could be...strange.

"Please forgive him, he tends to be slightly overprotective," Daiyu murmured at Rayan, looking a bit embarrassed as she watched her wolf lick at some snow. Glancing up at her words, Zephyr replied,
I am not overprotective, I am only looking out for your -our- best interests.

Smiling shyly, Daiyu repeated this for Rayan. "He does not think he is being overprotective, but being careful for us instead."

Rayan felt the shoulders beneath his arms tense and immediately glanced to the wolf, who instantly bared his fangs. Rayan quickly pulled his arms away and held them up in surrender, though there was no fear on his face, only a calm look of patience. This was a common occurrence since he always seemed to pick the ones with the protective wolves, but it came with the territory of being a wolfrider - you simply had to deal with the wolves as much as the humans.

Waiting patiently as the exchange occurred between wolf and rider, Rayan grinned back when Daiyu seemed to relax and smile at him. Likewise, her wolf calmed down almost immediately and he suspected the wolf had probably delved into her mind and found something. Whatever the case, at least he wasn't perceived at a threat anymore.

So Rayan threw his arm around Daiyu's shoulder again. "Well, a beautiful girl like you needs a handsome knight like Zephyr to protect you from the wayward men in this fort," he answered, throwing a playful wink at the wolf, not really caring if the canine agreed with him or not. And in case she misconstrued his meaning, Rayan added, "Don't worry, I'm not one of them. I'm a true gentleman."

To prove as much, he backed up and bowed elegantly. Upper body still lowered, Rayan glanced up at Daiyu with his usual charming smile and offered a hand to her. "My lady, would you be so kind as to accompany me on a walk this fine day?"

Zephyr snorted as Rayan gave a wink at him. He hadn't seen Daiyu wink before, but he had noticed many other humans do it. As such, he didn't truly understand the meaning it implied. He did, however, understand that Daiyu was not as uneasy anymore, and that pleased him. He glanced at Daiyu, waiting for her response as Rayan bowed low.

The pink hue came back to her cheeks yet again as she stumbled over an answer. "I...well, it...," she began, before glancing at her wolf. Zephyr seemed to be neutral in the choice; he only yawned before giving her a wolfish smile. Having Zephyr near seemed to give her more confidence, as she then continued to accept his offer. "I would very much be pleased to accompany you," came her final, gentle response. She took his hand lightly with her own soft hand.

Standing, Zephyr shook off snow from his underbelly.
I will follow close, My Rider, came his understanding voice from inside her head.

Rayan was quite pleased by her affirmative answer despite the slight stutter beforehand - he attributed that to nerves from being around such a handsome man as himself. Arrogant? Definitely.

"I'm honored by your acceptance," he responded in a kind manner, placing a gentle kiss on the back of her hand before straightening up. The gentleman ploy seemed to be working, so he saw no need to drop the behavior. Besides, Rayan loved roleplaying, and this simply gave him the opportunity to put two of his favorite things together: roleplaying and women.

A quick glance at Zephyr and Rayan knew he wouldn't be able to get away with any inappropriate behavior since it seemed as if they would have a... chaperone. "Oh fine, you can come too, puppy," he told the wolf with exaggerated reluctance.

Then Rayan bent his arm and lifted his elbow towards Daiyu, waiting for her to place her hand on his arm. The charming smile never left his face.

A low gurgling sound emitted from Zephyr's throat as he quickly positioned himself in between his rider and Rayan, blocking Daiyu from accepting the man's arm. I am no puppy, Zephyr huffed slightly, his tail straight up in irritation. He was not sure he wanted this man to be around his Daiyu any longer.

"Oh!" Daiyu exclaimed, as the sleek wolf slid up next to her. She had flushed deep at the kiss, and suddenly became too nervous to accept Rayan's arm. Desperately thinking of some excuse as why she couldn't touch him, she felt her wolf come to her rescue...whether he knew he was or not.

Rayan pouted childishly as the wolf bumped his arm away, the large furball planting himself directly between Rayan and his current interest. Did the wolf have no manners? Rayan half-scowled at Zephyr. "Oh, don't be such a kill-joy, puppy. I'm not going to do anything to your rider." Yet.

Trying to look above, then around, then under Zephyr, Rayan flailed his arms rather exasperatedly as he attempted to catch Daiyu's attention. He had half a mind to crawl under the wolf, but previous experiences told him that would be a horrible idea. "Daiyu-dear, your wolf is trying to come between our love!"

|| I kind of feel awkward jumping in at this point. If it's out of place or anything, I won't be offended if you delete it. ||

"Waiiiiiiiiit! Nooo! S-stop!" A homebound Private Apprentice dashed after her adolescent wolf, who darted across the snow following the trail of an unfamiliar scent. Knowing that it was either a.) another wolf, always risky business or b.) a superior of some kind. If anyone saw this, she was doomed for sure. Her heart jumped into her throat when the dots on the horizon took a more recognizeable shape. There were two superiors and another wolf.
Unable to outrun her wolf, Eustace merely trailed after him, contemplating all of the possible outcomes of the impending doom about to come upon her. When she reached the two, she showered apologies on them, LunarFlare already having sniffed about for several seconds before the message got through that it was a bad idea. She saluted and stood at attention, incredibly out of breath. "S-sir! Ma'am!" She took several deep breaths and then continued. "I-I take full responsibility."

LunarFlare sat obliviously next to Eu, sniffing curiously in the direction of the unfamiliar wolf, but knowing enough not to get too close. He yipped a greeting to him and panted in such a way that made it look like he was smiling. He was a friendly wolf, just a tad incredibly curious and just now learning all of the niceties. Lunar yipped at both riders as well, not recognizing any difference in rank and simply happy to meet new people. 'Heeeeeeeeelloooooo!' He finally said to the other wolf.

(No problem! <3 )

Hand pressed against her smiling lips, Daiyu tried desperately not to laugh. Zephyr panted happily, feeling the tingles of Daiyu's silently laughter within his own mind. He loved to not only hear, but feel her joyous giggles. They did not come often, but when they did, it meant everything to the wolf.

"Rayan, I am sorry, but it seems Zephyr is a bit against our walk." She froze for a moment, receiving a mental note from the wolf himself. "Oh...he...wishes me to tell you that he is no longer a puppy, and does not appreciate being classified as one." She blushed a bit, before adding a light, "Sorry."

Wolf, Zephyr remarked causally, his sharp eyes set ahead as he watched the wolf and human run towards them. Slightly surprised by her wolf's words, Daiyu glanced at the incoming wolf and rider as well. She smiled; Zephyr had always been curious when he was a pup, but far too polite to ever approach someone else with such enthusiasm. She watched the smaller wolf sniffed around until the wolf's rider came close. Daiyu bowed in greeting as her custom. "Good day," she said to the new girl.

The blue hued wolf stretched his nose closer to the younger wolf. Satisfied that it would pose no threat to his rider, Zephyr sat.
Hello, young one, he murmured.

"Oh, he definitely knows how to ruin my fun," Rayan pouted teasingly at Daiyu, before sticking his tonuge out at Zephyr again. A sigh as he dropped his arms and rocked back onto his heels, eyeing the young woman with a smile. "I suppose we should find something else to do?"

But then a young wolf came tumbling in, more or less, and Rayan looked over with an amused grin. Sure, Darkheart had never been a playful wolf, prone to bullying his peers and even some of the older wolves rather than romping in a friendly manner. Still, Rayan enjoyed watching the pups satisfy their curiousity, and all that energy reminded him of when he was young and running amock in the academy.

"Quite a handful you got there," he commented with a friendly grin at the apprentice, not quite sure who she was nor did he care too much at the moment. Rayan was only interested in women, and unfortunately, this one was far too young. Maybe in a few years he'd be pursuing her because she looked like she would grow into a pretty figure.

Eustace bowed to both of them, assuming it was some requirement or scruple in the fort that she's overlooked rather than a tradition for some one of Daiyu's heritage. "S-sorry!" She said, apologizing for omitting the nicety. "And h-he can be," Eustace added, rubbing the back of her neck nervously. "He's still learning. We-We're still learning, I mean," she quickly corrected herself. The girl put on the most sincere smile she could given the circumstances. She definately felt out of place.

LunarFlare took a bold step forward and nuzzled the older wolf's nose. It was something he used to do with his parents. In his eyes, there was no difference between other older wolves and his parents. To him, it was as if Zephyr was a distant cousin or an uncle. He motioned to his rider, as if introducing her to an old friend. Eu!'

Eustace looked from one to the other, knowing for a fact that there was something she was missing. Little by little, she put the facts together. 'A man and a woman... together... alone...' She mentally smacked herself. "I-I'm so sorry! I d-didn't realize I was i-interrupting!" Eustace bowed again. "E-eu-eustace Vinarin, Sir... and Ma'am! If you wish to file a complaint or i-inflict punishment, that is." Eustace was, for lack of a better phrase, a glutton for punishment. It was in her nature to be as submissive as possible to avoid conflict. It was better than to get herself into more trouble than she was already in.

Shaking her head firmly, Daiyu tried to reassure the girl. "No, no, nothing at all is wrong. You were not interrupting at all. Was she, Rayan? We were simply talking." Daiyu had begun to blush; she didn't want anyone to think she and Rayan were...well, were anything more than friends! She glanced to Zephyr for some confidence, but was startled to find that the wolf was the one in need of the help. The wolf had an odd tilt to his head, and his eyes were wide. "Zeph?" Daiyu asked gently, taking a step closer to her wolf.

A strange, low gurgling sound came from Zephyr's throat. He looked up at Daiyu as if her voice had woken him from a dream. That puppy had touched him! He was not sure he liked that. The larger wolf gave his rider a look of uncertainty.

Giggling behind her hand, Daiyu patted her friend's head. "Oh dear. I'm afraid your wolf has confused Zephyr," Daiyu said to Eustace with a hint of amusement in her voice. She rubbed her hands over Zephyr's chest. "Now, Dear One, he was only curing his curiosity about you. Mind that you do not be rude."

Licking his human's hand in an attempt to gain back the situation, he gave the younger wolf another sniff, this time careful to not let his nose get too close. Standing up to his full height, he now eyed the rider. She seemed alright, but he still didn't know if he liked that puppy...

"I am Daiyu Li, and this is Zephyr." The young woman suddenly remembered her manners. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Eustace."
