Dancer held her basket as she kneeled on the ground picking berries off a thick bush. Her eyes moved about the ground as well but if the truth be told more berries were going in the Cat Elfs mouth then in the basket at the moment. It showed on her blue lips and looked like he had just come in from the cold. *Pick a lot Savith these are good.* Her mind chuckled at him. *I'm sure they would even lure the fish from the sea.* Then she turned her attention to flowers and plants but didn't sray to far from the bush just the same.
Savith hovered well within reach, collecting berries into his own basket, but was ending up with more in his basket than in his mouth, though he was still sneaking them when it looked like Dancer wasn't paying attention. **Are you sure it would be the berries and not a certain berry-stained elfess that would be the lure,** he teased lightly, a smirk on his face.
She giggled and shrugged a bit. *Maybe. And maybe the new water elf will keep him in the sea for longer and longer a time.* She was conserned his intrest in her might slim now that another Sea Elf appeared and was a female. She tried to keep the thought out of her mind though. *I hope I can find enough herbs and such to dry out and have over this cold that everyone says is coming.* She had never seen a winter before. She wasn't sure what to expect or if she would even like it. When cool seasons came in her home land she was never very happy with them.
Savith continued grinning, but said little more about the topic of boys. Instead, he transitioned easily to Dancer's new topic: winter. **White-cold isn't nearly as white or as cold this close to the Vast Deep... At least... It wasn't.**
Pulling up some plants she shook the dirt from the roots. *This white-cold kills everything? Then lays on the ground for a very long time?* She thought while. *I remember mountain that was white at the top. Father said it was very cold there even in our tropic home. It was hard to understand how the two could be at the same time.* Her eyes went to Savith. *Your home was in a mountain. Was it covered in the white blanket?*
**For part of the year,** Savith replied, eyes on the berries before him. **It would swirl into the aerie on occassion, and made night shifts there a tad.. unpleasant. But, it doesn't truly kill everything. More.. it's like the world is asleep.**
Now she crawled along the ground to get a good look at everything. Playing with a spider on her hand and petting a fuzzy catapiller. *And your kind hid away in the mountain during this time.* After a bit of silence she shrugged. *I guess that is best, safest. Do you think we will need to hide away during that time here?* Her head turned as if not hearing an answer even if one was given. As if something was heard in the distance.
**Depends on how cold it gets, really, and how much foor we're able to store up before then,** he replies, glancing at Dancer to make sure she was hidden before placing another berry in his mouth. Floating up high, he moved to another bush/tree and found a nest. It was empty, but not for very long. The fledglings had all taken wing save one, which hadn't managed to learn to take wing, and he fell to the tree's roots. It was there that he lay, silent, with a brken wing and broken leg, as ants had begun to crawl on him.
*Savith. Is everything alright?* She just had a funny feeling. She remained motionless untill she heard from him.
**Yup,** he replied easily. **Just an empty nest up here. Brought back memories, even if it is small.** Curiousity tinged his mind as he looked down for Dancer, not able to see anything on the ground for the foliage covering it. **Why?**
*I.... I just thought I heard something.* She started crawling in his direction. Popping another berry in her mouth she smiled. *Let me see the nest. I might be able to tell you what kind of bird made it.* Then she thought about the big birds Savith told her about. It made her wonder. *Savith, bird nests are normaly homes for paracites and such. How did you keep them from your large birds?* Making her way closer to where he was.
**Looks like a a type of raptor,** he stated in reference to the kind of bird nest. **The bonds really got them. We had a number of caretakers who's sole responsibility was to upkeep the nests and keep them clean and free of such things. When I begun my training, I did that as well, and whenever I spent tiem away from the mountain, I would preen Winddance, keep her free of ticks and fleas and the like.**
Now she was at the base of the tree where he was. Her head tilted upward as she talked to him. *Did you lov.....* Her voice stopped for a bit then she touched Saviths mind again with a wash of tenderness and consern. *Oh Savith come look.*
**Did I what now,** he asked as he descended as bid. **What did you find?**
When he found her Dancer was lightly brushing ants off the injured chick. The attention making the little thing squeel wanting to be fed, wanting its mother and just wanting care. *It's a little bird. I guess it was left behind when it fell.* Ever so gentaly she picked it up. *AAAWWW It hurts so much.*
Savith settled to a knee as e looked the hawkling over. **A fledging who didn't quite make it when pushed, ** he sent gently.
*Should nature have it or were we ment to find it?* He could feel her want for the seckond to be his answer. Blue eyes looking t him as if they might cry should he say put it back. *Father often told me that nature chose things that were weak or somehow unfit for life to feed the other animal. I bet I could heal it now though.* She stroked the little things head lightly. *And you would know what to feed it.*
**But what use would it be,** he questioned. **It's so small...**
Savith peered at the creature, frowning lightly.
*But it would grow* She frowned hering his send and knowing what it ment. He sounded like her Father. Trying to find a kind way to tell her a harsh fact. *I cannot accept that Saith. That it is of little use just because of its size. I am little and not a very good hunter or fighter but I have a use don't I?*
**Of course you do,** he retorted, unhappy that she's reasoning him against this. **You're a healer, and... it's just abird.**
*I wasn't always a healer. It was something that took great hardshipo to show.* Now she stood and looked at him saddly. *If I wasn't a healer would I be useless in your eyes?*
Savith openned his mind to reply, a trickle of thought escaping before it fell silent and he frowned. **No,** came the thought finally, resigned int hat she would end up keeping hte hawk.
She smiled and giggled then saat back down on the ground. *Good. Then I heal the chick and you help care for it. You take care of feeding it and I will keep it clean untill it can fly away or decides to stay with us.*
Savith sighed faintly.... **Fine...**
Grinning from ear to ear she set her mind to fixing the ailments of the little bird. Closing her eyes she let the heling power take her as it had done before. The little chick easy to heal compaired to an elf. The frail little bone was like mending a sliver of twig together. Still it tired her out a bit. Small healings were good though to hone her skill and make her stronger. *There we go. You can feed it now and give him a name.* She lifted the chick to him and he could see her arms tremble just a bit as she did so.
Savith reached downt to take the bird, mind rippling back an annoyed little grumping even as he trilled a soothing birdcall tot he fledgling. Skilled hands found the bird's tender spots beneath feathers. **He's going to need meat,** he sends after a bit.
Dancer smiled softly hearing Savith make the little bird sound then leaned against the tree. *Well we will need to get him some then. If you like leave him hear and find him a little something. I'm in no shape to hunt at the moment.* Still her smile lit her face and shined in her eyes. *Do you think we should keep it in your nest area so Joy doesn't think it is a smack?* She teased a bit as she had noticed the Wolf Rider was a bit more agressive then the other Wolf Riders she knew.
Savith hmm'd with his mind, even as he fished for a bit of jerky from his belt. He continued thrilling at the birdling. **It would be a good idea, I think. And I have some jerky that will do for now...**
*I bet you were a gentel Father Savith.* She watched him with sleepy eyes as he tended the little bird. She forgot for a moment how talking about his past sometimes cut or he might supprise her and take another brick down from the wall round him.
**Not always,** he admitted softly, even as he found that bit of jerky and offered it tot he bird.
She didn't wnt to upset him. At least not at thte moment and so changed the subject. *What should we call him?*
The bird hestantly took the meat then spat it out and squawked unhappily and bit his fingers. Savith gritted his teeth at the pain, replying with a bit of mental tension, **Does it matter at the moment?**
She couldn't help but chuckle as the chick chomped Saviths finger and he grumped. *No I guess not. I'm sure a name will come. Just as it comes to a new parent when they see their baby for the first time.*
Savith quirks a brow at Dancer, before turning to lift away toward the main camp. **I've got to get this bird fed. See you back at camp.**
*Very well. I will bring the baskets back with me.* Her mind giving him a mental hug at giving in to her wishes then let him go
Savith hovered well within reach, collecting berries into his own basket, but was ending up with more in his basket than in his mouth, though he was still sneaking them when it looked like Dancer wasn't paying attention. **Are you sure it would be the berries and not a certain berry-stained elfess that would be the lure,** he teased lightly, a smirk on his face.
