Devi carefully regarded herself in the mirror, going over each detail. Her lovely hair was braided and slung artfully over her shoulder, with a few strands of hair decoratively framing her face. Only when she was satisfied that every detail was perfect did she allow herself to leave. It wasn't as though she herself was obsessed with constantly looking perfect, it was the expectations of others. She had to be an example. Really, she wished that she could give up the pretense. After all, she had better things she could turn her attention to.
Pausing only to grab a book from the nearby shelf, Devi raced out the door. The beauty of the outside beckoned her and she refused to waste such a lovely day. She set a steady pace, quick enough that she could make it to her destination sooner rather than later, but slow enough that she could take the time to enjoy her surroundings.
After only a short time, she stopped and gazed in satisfaction at the spot before her. Her favorite tree stood next to a small creek. The large canopy of leaves provided excellent shade, while the grass beneath the tree provided every comfort. Settling into a comfortable position, the tree at her back, she sighed in content and opened her book. Finally, she had a moment to herself where she could do what she really enjoyed: learn.
Devi knew that it went against her nature, but she thirsted for knowledge and enjoyed reading as much as she could. It was a delightful way to pass the time too. And here in her spot, she was guaranteed not to be disturbed. Or so she thought.

Perttu had been out and about for most of the day; he'd run some errands and gotten a mani-pedi at a place that had come quite nicely recommended by his stylist (one must always look one's best!). But by mid-afternoon he was more than ready to return home...
...only he ended up taking a wrong turn and then decided that the place was as good as any for a quiet, solitary walk. Trees with softly rustling leaves, the small chrr-chrri-up of birds, the quiet babbling of the creek, the girl with the book and it's sand-paper sound as the pages were turned--
Wait. A girl? Perttu's eyes narrowed and he brought one manicured hand up to push his hair back -- ah, so he wasn't as aloneas he had thought...at least she was easy enough on his eyes. A pretty thing that seemed to be almost as well groomed as he himself!
He made up his mind to say hello - mind to mouth, he moved towards Devi and called out a greeting. "Hello there--"

Devi was engrossed in her book, in the fascinating words and sentences that spun from it. She was firmly convinced that she was alone, so when she heard a voice call out to her, she started violently, glancing around her in panic. She caught sight of the male nearby and with an embarrassed, guilty expression, she tucked the book behind her, hoping that he hadn't noticed it.
Hoping to make up for her moment of confusion, she smiled cautiously at the male, flipping her hair elegantly out of her eyes. She took a long moment to appraise and admire him. Certainly, he deserved the admiration. He obviously took great pains with his appearance to great effect. He was a very handsome creature, whoever he was.
Deciding that she might as well be friendly, she called back to him.
"Hello there. What brings you out here? I hadn't realized that this spot was that well known," she said, a touch sheepishly. Devi stood and brushed a few pieces of grass off of her fur and stood in what she knew was a flattering pose. It was a part of both of their nature to be admired.
"I am Devi," she added, simply.

Oh ho! He had apparently caught her doing something she felt was...meant to be kept as a secret. Perttu was not mean enough to cause her any distress, so he pretended to not have noticed.
"It's not, I seem to have gotten lost." He stood hipshot and smiled broadly; what a lovely creature she was! Elegant and well groomed...just as he had thought from the first glimpse.
Perttu moved closer and gently captured one of her hands, bringing it to his lips in an elegant gesture. "What a beautiful name. Fitting, for such a beautiful lady." His fluffy tail swished behind him, thumping against the backs of his legs. "My name is Perttu."
