The sun slowly sank behind the clouds, gradually becoming no more than a faint, orange streak staining the sky. As it did so, the crimson eyes of a female vixen snapped open. She lay in the higher branches of a pine tree bordering an empty valley, her right foreleg dangling beneath her. She yawned, her extraordinarily long, pearl white canines -or fangs, depending on how one looked at it- glistening in the light of the setting sun. She just took a fairly refreshing nap. Even vampires needed to sleep every now and then.

After flexing her claws, she leaped off the branch she laid on, gracefully and virtually silently landing in the grass below. Her tail slowly swayed back and forth, her ears rotating around on the top of her head. She had an awful feeling that there was something or someone nearby, yet she couldn't determine who or what it was. She flicked an ear in agitation, a soft, low growl escaping her throat. She rolled her shoulders and sauntered back into the shadows of the tree line, waiting for whatever it was to emerge into view. Hopefully it was a deer or some other animal she could drain. She was more damned thirsty than she thought.

Chi winced, the thirst scalding her throat. It was like a conflagration raging inside of her. The black, white, and dark red blood splattered vixen had forgotten when was the last time she had fed. Her brother, Koumori, and she had taught themselves how to feed and sate their undying thirsts with the blood of other animals rather than Modifoxes. It made the two vampires seem a little less conspicuous. The agony of the wretched thirst was nearly unbearable and Chi was less reliable than her brother to be able to maintain control. To anyone that knew her, it was fairly clear that Chi was prone to and probably would attack the first thing that bore the scent of blood. Whether it be another animal or a Modifox did not matter... At least not at the moment...

Focused blood red eyes followed the movements of the other fox from a distance, his perch within a nest of branches in a nearby oak had not been discovered. This female, one he had met before was at least consistent in her behavioral patterns; Agitation seemed to be what her aura was mostly comprised of. His last conversation with her, how distant it seemed, perhaps because it had been such a long time ago. Time was a thing of little consequence and so each day and night seemed to blur into the next while he was outside his sleeping nightmares. His waking nightmares however, always seemed to keep him occupied.

He did however note the changes in her scent, something darker, more bloodthirsty than last time was evident. He knew that scent well though, as it reminded him of the beasts that stirred beneath his skin and within his conscious mind. He also noted the expression of pain that crossed her visage briefly; That brief twinge sparked untold questions, and it was enough for him to raise his form and silently pad across the branches to relocate himself closer to her. His scent would give him away again, as it had last time, this much he knew.

'Blood...' The vixen froze, every muscle in her body tensing with the sudden scent that struck her like a shock of lightning. She winced once again, the bushy end of her tail twitching erratically. Her lips involuntarily pulled back over her acerose teeth and she seethed. It was utterly overbearing... A shudder rippled through her body and she snarled. She was in the midst of yet another internal battle, one between the small part of her which longed to be somewhat civilized and that other, malignant, bloodthirsty, savage part, the part that usually won over her. She knew where this unlucky traveler was; she could hear its very heartbeat. She could smell the blood coursing beneath his skin. She could see herself drenched in the warm, crimson fluid, this torturous thirst satisfied for the time. It would keep her sane, even if only for a little while.

She was losing her grip. Chi knew that better than anything else. She dreaded moments like this, where all her sanity was drowned in the torrents of her vampiric instincts. Her lip quivered for a moment and she cringed. A hiss escaped her as the internal battle raged on. The last thing she wanted to do was give in to that other side of her, the side that usually overtook her nearly effortlessly. The blood... The ******** blood... It was right there... And she... They needed it... No matter how much she protested against herself, she could not deny the fact that they needed it, no matter how tormenting the fact may be.

Chi's blood red eyes closed, opening only a few moments later, although now they were glazed over with a certain bloodlust and insanity that was evidently absent just seconds ago. A growl emit from the depths of her throat, turning into a feral snarl as she broke into a sprint, darting out into the open valley. She could smell it, she could hear it, she could almost taste it in the air, she could see it, she could feel it. She shifted her weight to her hind legs, her oddly powerful muscles rippling as she leaped up onto the trunk of the oak tree. Her sharp, black claws found their holds on the dry, rough bark and she turned her gaze upwards where the other fox was located. Yet she suddenly froze again. This scent was uncannily familiar. It was unnerving.

Chi had gained full control of herself quite quickly; being a vampire was like having Bipolar Disorder in a way. She released her grasp on the bark of the tree trunk, silently landing on the pads of her black paws. She gazed back up into the tree, this time scanning the fox above. He had long, ebony black hair and wore a red garment. He also had blood red eyes like her own and a golden gauntlet on his left leg. "I know you..." She murmured, smirking with the recollection of the events that occurred the last time they met. "You're the fox who robbed me of that one deer."

He scoffed and shook his head. The results of her nightmare taking over her amused and perturbed him at the same time. He knew those moments, he knew when the horrors within took control and things were unleashed. The atrocities he had committed, had watched through his own eyes and had no control over; This had been a moment where one could have occurred for her. He knew he could handle her though, had she not regained control, or at least he hoped he could.

"Your memory serves you well. I see you haven't changed much, save you have a tiny bit more control."

He rolled from the branches and landed heavily, the gold claw driving into the ground as the weight made the impact harder. His form rose slowly, as if strained from a constant state of exhaustion, though he did not carry himself in such a manner. He wandered closer to her, pacing around her as he let his tail flick close to her nose, as if daring her to react.

"So tell me.... Chi. I do believe my memory serves me as well. Do you enjoy losing to your nightmares?"

A soft, low growl emit from the vixen's throat as Vincent flicked his tail dangerously close to her nose, though she let her head retract a bit in order to avoid contact. In most other cases, she would have snapped at whatever it was that decided it would come near her maw, yet she could lose herself again. That was the last thing she wanted. Her tail had calmed and gently swayed, only displaying the fact that it was a laborious effort to maintain control over herself. He was so close... She could smell it... She could hear his heartbeat... She could feel his heartbeat... Her eyes met his and her jaw fell ever so slightly, her lips parting as they did so. Her breathing grew heavier and heavier with every breath. Her tail slowed its monotonous wagging. It was subtly drowning her this time.

Chi closed her crimson eyes, opening them moments later. She sighed and turned her head as he circled her, observing his every move. A light, half-hearted chuckle escaped her. "Nice to know I'm remembered..." She stated quietly. "And you would be Vincent, if I'm not mistaken?" She asked. She paused for a moment when he asked that simple question. "Do you?"

He did not hesitate when she growled, in fact it made him choose to teach her restraint more so. Every few steps his tail would brush some part of her form. Be it her side, her back, or her legs; He made a point of making some sort of contact. He nodded when she spoke his name, as she was indeed correct. He noted the changes in her breathing and let his cloak scrape against the ground behind him, causing the leaves to rustle.

"I have learned a great deal of restraint over time. My nightmares no longer consume me on a whim. It takes a great deal of pushing to make me lose my control. However when I do I have indeed lost to my nightmares. It's never a pleasant experience, especially since my nightmares are both self-inflicted and brought upon by the acts of another. I have labored for a great amount of time, so much so that I cannot remember when I began, to become a master of myself."

He paused in front of her, his nose dangerously close to her own as his blood red eyes glared into hers. The wind rustled his cloak, causing a bit of it to shift away from his neck, exposing it enough to let the scent of his blood fill the area more so than before.

The vixen's blood red eyes narrowed. Chi knew Vincent was taunting her. Several times she hissed out of pure agitation. "Unlike you, I have not been able to learn how to restrain myself..." She stated, a slight tone of irritation twined with her words. Her lips curled back over her teeth into a snarl when his tail gently met her shoulder. She growled again, whipping her tail once in an attempt to strike him somewhere as he prowled behind her.

"I have never been able to contain my daemons or my nightmares..." Chi lowered her gaze to the ground, disgusted with herself. How could Vincent and even her brother, Koumori, maintain such a grip over themselves and what lurks beneath the surface? How? "It's always quite disturing to emerge from them and realize what carnage you have done. My daemons come forth out of my lust and need for blood, but I assume you have already figured that out.. It's a necessity or I shall go insane... I've spent much time trying to gain some hold over it, yet it's a trecherous endeavor."

Chi raised her gaze, locking her eyes with Vincent's. His face was much closer than she had expected. The smell of his blood staining the air hit her like a hurricane. Her claws gripped the ground and she shut her eyes. She cringed, a violent shudder rippling throughout her entire body. Her breathing became labored once again and she looked up at him. "What is the point of torturing me like this? She rasped.

As she spoke he listened in silence, the only sound coming from him was the ruffling of his cloak and the clank of his claw. He watched her body tense, let her tail strike him, and just examined her as if she were his Prey. When she looked up at him after he stopped and gazed into his eyes, posing him a question he found to be silly he smirked. He was unsure how she could even ask that question as the answer was obvious.

"You currently lack the willpower to control yourself. Yet twice now you have refrained from actually attacking me even though you've lost control. Explain this to yourself before questioning my actions, and you shall understand. Your nightmares are self inflicted and related to your uncommon condition. Feeding is a necessity to your survival but it does not need to become an obsession. Should it reach that point is when you become the monster, you become the nightmare."

He leaned forward a bit more, purposefully violating the sanctity of her 'Bubble'. The very tip of his nose came to touch hers as his gaze intensified and the wind picked up, scattering his scent about like the pollen of a flower.

"Will you attack me, or will you maintain control?"

Chi assumed Vincent probably expected her to attack him; he looked well prepared for an attack anyway. She clenched her teeth, her jaw muscles tighter than she ever remembered. She strengthened her hold on the ground and twined her tail around her right hind leg as an added measure. Her entire body stiffened, yet she did not move from that spot, or make any effort to move her head away. It was smoldering her insides, raging, tearing, searing, burning, cutting, slicing, ripping… It was simply agonizing… The wretched excruciating pain was becoming overwhelming. She was reaching her limits… She could help but whimper, no matter how pitiful it may be. Chi couldn’t remember the last time she had whimpered.

Chi suddenly gasped for breath, trembling as she did so. It was subsiding… For now… Her tense muscles relaxed, her tail falling limply from its position around her hind leg. With a sigh, she tilted her head up to the blackening sky, blinking her crimson eyes. "Frankly, it's quite an accomplishment for me to not actually attack you... Twice... Or three times... I've lost count... Usually, I would have given in by now..." She lowered her head to meet his eyes once again. "Even if I haven't fed in over a week, would it still be considered an obsession?" She asked. "It's common for my kind to behave in this manner... With some exceptions..."

As she looked away he chuckled and then nodded slightly, taking a step back. He permitted her a bit more space because he had something else in mind. Something far more cruel to test her with. He was impressed with her restraint thus far and the whimper simply told him just how hard it was for her.

"Then at this point it seems that it's something about me in particular that you find yourself fighting that which is within you with such force. I know not why, nor do I really care at this point. It opens up another avenue of study however. From my experiences with 'Your' kind, this is actually fairly uncommon. You're an odd one, you fight but not always where others succumb and become their nightmare. You have proven to me to this very moment that you are exceptional among your kind."

With that he lowered his head and sighed, peering at his leg for a long moment before opening his muzzle and sinking his canines into his flesh. Blood began to flow immediately, a brief squirt even from the initial impact of the wound soaked into a parched patch of earth nearby. This would be a far more difficult test for her and he knew it, he even willingly went into a possible confrontation with her wounded. As the blood flowed from his foreleg he withdrew his head and gazed at her, waiting for her to realize what had just happened.

The vixen’s eyes widened, her pupils dilating. Vincent was testing her yet again, but why did he have to do this? She wasn’t Koumori! She wasn’t like her goddamned brother who could maintain control with ease, or at least that’s how it seemed. A shill cry emit from her throat as the blood sprayed on the grass. She caught herself before she lurched forward towards the crimson fluid. She locked her gaze with Vincent’s as she moved back to her spot. She was not going to let him hold this over her.

The bushy end of her tail was once again twitching erratically. Her eye was twitching as she winced, growling as the smell of blood manifested itself in her nostrils. Her lips peeled back over her white teeth, glistening in the faint light that remained after sunset. Her eyes were glazing over and some of her features contorted as the beast within began to suffocate her. Another shudder tore through her. She began to experience convulsions as another internal battle raged on. She seethed.

Another snarl escaped her and she cringed, staggering backward a step or two. There was no way it was winning this time, not while Vincent was testing her like this… She whined, much like a pathetic, weak kit would in the jaws of a mountain lion. She tilted her head up to the sky again and let out another bloodcurdling cry before nearly collapsing, only inches away from the ground. It sounded like she was sobbing rather than attempting to breathe normally. This thirst was asphyxiation. She looked up at the wound, his blood oozing out of the fresh incisions. She moaned. ’Blood… Blood… Blood.' It was the only word that could possibly enter her mind at the moment.

Eventually, she did fall onto her side, claws tearing mercilessly across the ground, leaving a trail of claw marks. She was still trembling and it was still an arduous task to breathe, but she had succeeded in maintaining almost full control over herself.

He watched her fight, and just as he thought she would succumb she fell over in triumph. His muscles relaxed at that and he took a few steps closer to her, watching her for a long moment before walking over to her and extending his wounded foreleg.

"Feed... but do it before I change my mind. You've passed my tests and I'll give you this chance once, since you've resisted so well. Don't worry about how I respond to it either, I doubt you could take enough to actually kill me. You don't know my nightmares...."

He turned his head and bit into his cloak, shredding a good length of it as he held it in his maw, waiting for her to act before he did anything else.

Chi raised her head slightly, her breathing still quite heavy. Her movements were abnormally rigid. It wasn't even possible for a normal fox to have movements as sharp and stiff as hers were at the time. She rolled over onto her stomach, still crouched down. She looked up at him as his teeth sank into the fabric. She licked her lips, contemplating if she should ask him if he was sure about that. Her eyes then narrowed slightly. For all she knew, this could be another one of his ridiculous tests. No matter... She was dying of thirst... But she would not take too much.

She leaned in towards the extended limb, exhaling an icy breath over the lacerations on his foreleg. Slowly, she let her jaws find their way around Vincent's leg before clamping down. The two elongated canines punctured his flesh and the blood flowed in... She breathed slow, deep breaths. This blood was... Different. She could feel sinister forces twined within the warm, crimson fluid, flowing with the blood, filling her inside. She could already feel the flames within her dying down, being extinguished by the blood like water extinguishes fire.

Eventually, when her thirst was no more than an irritating twinge that manifested itself every now and then, she released her hold on Vincent’s leg, pulling her head back and licking her teeth. The sky was nearly pitch black, yet the moon was their light tonight. With a sigh, she looked back at Vincent, her ebony hair falling over both her eyes. ”Thank you…” She said softly, prowling her way closer to him. ”You know my nightmares… You know my daemons… What are yours, if you don’t mind me asking?”

As she drank his eyes closed as he held his nightmares at bay. Injury caused them to emerge and with the type of damage the loss of blood did to him he knew that one may very well decide to manifest. When she finished however, and edged closer, his eyes opened and he leaned forward. As he did he let the cloth drape over her neck and then he lowered his head to take two ends and somehow, though even he was never quite sure how, tied it about her neck tightly. He made sure however, not to tighten it enough to choke her.

"My nightmares... are within me. Beasts that have been locked inside of my form by a mad-man seeking to create a perfect soldier. He succeeded mind you, but I've suffered forever due to my failures. I'll never be the same being I was, I'll never have the chance to live my life as I wished. The beasts, the creatures within me, I keep them at bay with slumber. I lock myself away and sleep for long periods of time, only to awaken and begin the nightmare anew. One day I hope to wake up, hope to find that it was just that, a nightmare... I know though, that it'll never come."

With that he raised his foreleg slowly and wiped a bit of the blood onto the cloth about her neck, making the scent even stronger.

"A reminder for you, so you know that I'm always there to help you retain control. Do not lose yourself to your beast Chi..."

Chi listened to his words far more attentively than she had ever listened to anyone else before. She could empathize with him somewhat, although she only had one daemon and he apparently had many... She couldn't begin to comprehend what turmoil he must deal with everyday... Sleep did help her, somewhat, but she only slept every so often. She looked away from him as he tied his cloak around her. With another soft sigh, she began, "If you are willing to be here for me so I do not succumb to the daemon within me..." Turning her gaze back to him, she once again met his eyes, yet this time there was not a single hint or hue of any bloodlust or malice. "How can I not be there for you?" She asked. Her voice was soft, lacking all the spite it once contained. It was unlike her to behave in such a manner.

She looked around for a moment. "I have nothing to give you as a reminder, unfortunately..." She stated. His paw then caught her attention. "But I do believe you'll have a scar there..." She added, gesturing to the bite wound with a little smirk twisting on her face. "Fortunately, I do not believe I injected any venom into your bloodstream, and even if I did, it's nothing your nightmares cannot overpower..."
