Sunlight dappled the leafy ground, broken by the tree branches overhead. Multi-colored fur, similarly dappled, reflected that light in brilliant flashes as a young male padded quietly through the forest. Deep purple eyes took in the lush foliage around him eagerly as his long tail flickered against the leaflitter behind him. He was new to the area and had been exploring all morning, he had been hoping to find some of the locals, but so far his exploration hadn't found another palu.
Spotting a large, mossy rock up ahead with a bright, unbroken patch of sunlight bathing it, Hunter grinned eagerly to himself and picked up his pace. He reached the rock and leaped to the top of it with ease, his large padded paws making scarcely a sound as he did so. A quiet rumble started in his throat as he curled up on the warmed surface and drifted into a light cat-nap.

It was a lazy day. The whether was warm, and though Akiko liked the warm rather then the cold it made her feel lazy. And so she had wondered away from her family and into the lush forest. The shade was nice, the forest always being cooler because of it. She had a few areas she loved to spend her time in on days like these. This meant that she could have different scenery to look at when she wanted too and when her parents sent her siblings to look for her it took them longer to find her.
Today she had picked a small ledge near the bottom of a cliff face. Leafy vines that hung down the cliff gave her shade and covering to hide behind if she wanted. Resting behind it she watched her surroundings lazily. She was a little surprised when she spotted another Palu. Her ears perked and she lifted her chin from her paws the watch the colorful normal. She watched as he leaped atop a sunbathed rock and curled up for a nap. Smiling a little she decided to watch him from her higher resting spot.

It wasn't long before Hunter felt like he was being watched. The spotted fur on his pelt bristled a little and he raised his head and yawned widely. With a grin on his face, he slowly swiveled his ears about, listening for anyone nearby. It seemed he had found himself some company after all, now he just had to figure out where it was. Getting to his paws, the leopard-spotted palu stretched luxuriously and pounced off the rock he had been napping on. His eyes carefully scanned the area around him, then he nonchalantly padded off into the undergrowth again. The young male was curious to see if his mysterious company would continue to watch him. His tail tip flickered serenely behind him as he disappeared into the lush foliage.

Akiko blinked as the other Palu stood and walked away. She inched forwards to try and watch him but he didn’t walk to far before she could no longer see him. She pouted a little for a moment before resting her head down on her paws again. Her mind followed him however. She had met very few other Palu, her being the youngest in the family everyone was so protective of her. With a slight huff she stood and stretched a little before she leaped down and slowly followed the colorful male into the undergrowth.

Hunter's senses remained alert as he made his way back towards the way he had come. Once he had gone far enough, the spotted male flicked his tail a few times before launching at a tree and digging his claws into it, scaling it with ease. He made himself comfortable on a relatively leafy branch and let himself drift off a little as the sunlight danced on his fur. The branch was covered just enough with leafy branches so that he felt as if he were adequately hidden to keep watch for any palu who might be roaming the area. Although he seemed dazed by the sun, his senses remained ever alert.

With the other Palu out of her sight Akiko sniffed at the air to try and fallow the others scent. For a moment or two she couldn’t tell where he had gone, unable to catch his scent. A small smile crossed her face as she found it again and moved forwards. Walking on she carefully followed the scent while trying to make it look as if she was just walking along.
But as she neared the tree the male was resting in she seemed to loose his scent again. She blinked a few times and looking around she was a little confused. Perhaps she hadn’t found his scent in the first place. Or worse maybe she hadn’t seen him in the first place. Signing a little she shook her head and turned away taking a few steps back the way she had come.

Rustling from below alerted the silent Hunter that his company had arrived at last, and deep purple eyes gazed down eagerly from his place in the tree. He watched the fair little palu emerge beneath the tree and look about. Had she been tracking him afterall? Her scent confirmed that she was female, and her image was soft on the eyes. The spotted male smirked to himself, quietly rising to his paws on the branch and never taking his eyes off the young palu below him. As she began padding back the way she had come, he flicked his tail a few times and lunged from the tree, aiming to pounce the female and straddle her with all four paws to avoid hurting her too much. "Leaving so soon, are you?" He growled softly in her ear, "You were searching for me." His eyes sparkled slightly in playful mischief as he pinned the light-pelted female beneath him and waved his long tail.

Akiko had no time to ready herself. She didn’t know the attack was coming until it was too late. She was startled, letting out a yip as the male leapt onto her, pinning her beneath him. Wide teal eyes stared up at his deep purple one, a little frightened. This was after all the first Palu she had met that wasn’t family, maybe she shouldn't have followed him.
The soft fur around her ear tickled a little as he growled against it, causing the ear to twitch a little. She searched her mind for an innocent reason for her to been there, other then that fact that she had been stalking his scent. However she had always been taught to tell the truth and thus she was bad at thinking up lies. Slowly she nodded unable to find her own voice, her eyes never leaving his. She thought she saw a little playfulness in them, though she couldn’t be sure.

Hunter's grin widened at her innocent nod, some of his sharp teeth glinting as they were bared. "As I thought," He began finally in that smooth rumbling growl, "now that I've gotten a closer look at you, you're really cute." Gazing back into her frightened, teal colored eyes, the spotted male backed up slowly, letting her back up. Sitting down, he waved his spotted tail behind him and regarded her appreciatively. "What good luck I have, to have found such lovely company for the afternoon." He nodded, then tipped his head inquiringly to her "It's true that you're nice to look at, but you are a little careless as well, it seems."

Blush spread over her cheeks beneath her lightly colored fur. At first she just remained there, her eyes following him however. She really wasn’t sure what to think of this male. Was he just messing with her? Slowly she rolled onto her side before sitting up and turning to face him. Opening her mouth to speak she realized she didn’t know what to say. “H..How am I careless?” Her soft voice stuttered a little as she spoke the only words that came to mind, and she mentally scolded herself for the glitch in her speech.

Hunter's eyes narrowed and his grinning maw revealed even more teeth; this palu before him was simply too cute. He got to his paws again and slowly padded about the young female, looking her over with that expression, one that seemed to have become quite predatory. "Well, for starters, you followed a strange palu who you've never seen before, deep into the forest and made yourself quite easy to ambush." He growled softly, pausing as he rounded to her front again and gazed into her face, "Considering that, had I been the deplorable type.... or even an unfriendly sort, you would have easily placed yourself in harm's way." As he spoke the last bit, his deep purple eyes had locked onto her own teal ones and he had slowly leaned closer to her. Then, suddenly, he began to chuckle and backed away again, padding over to sit on a large root growing from the base of the tree he had been in. "Simply put, a pretty little thing like you shouldn't leave herself so vulnerably open." He finished, with another satisfied smirk.

Akiko shiver slightly as the male circled her. She still wasn’t really sure what to think of him. What was stranger was the fact that he frightened her and that made him even more interesting to her. She looked down a little as he called her pretty, hiding the darkening blush. She wasn’t sure if it could be seen through her fur. Only her mother called her pretty. Her brothers always said she was funny looking to bug her. She was after all the odd one out in the family, when it came to looks at least.
It took her a moment to find her voice again, turning to look at him once more as she did. “I… I can take care of myself.” She tried to make herself sounds strong and brave but her voice still faltered on her and came out as little more then a whisper.

Hunter nodded at her statement and gave another short chuckle, "Oh yea, you're defensive reflexes are pretty good, aren't they?" Clawing at the root before him, he waved his tail behind him in a teasing fashion, "Care to try it again?" No sooner than he had proposed the challenge was the multi-colored Palu hurtling towards the female. In two bounds, he had made it from the root and was in the air to pounce again.

Her teal eyes widened and she froze for a moment Staring at him as he came at her. She had no clue what to do. Her father protected her normally so she had no reason to learn how to fight or evade. No reason to protect herself. Then again there had never been need for her father to protect her either. She tried to quickly stand and back up but instead she stumbled. Tripping and falling backwards over the root of another tree with a squeak. Her reaction time was slow and next to useless.

As he expected, Hunter again trapped the female beneath him and stood victorious over her. His tail waving behind him, he crouched close to her and growled softly, "Too late, cutie...Now, before we go any further, I think we should at least take a moment to learn each others' names."
He stepped away from the female again and sat with his chest puffed out proudly, "It probably won't surprise you, but I'm known as Hunter."
