He had promised this time to not only take Tehya on a little adventure outside of Shilal, but her sister Roze as well. The white filly reminded him, in apperance at least, so much of Tucker. It'd been entirely too long since Aitumn had a good long conversation with his eldest son, and now that he was a growing stallion he realized that the pale coated cross wasn't his little colt anymore. No. Indeed he was a strapping young stallion, who may or may not get the wander lust some adults got. All the more reason to spend as much time with him as possible.

As it was though, Aitumn was more than happy to show his daughters around the valley while Cress spent time with the three colts back at the tree. Eventually they could probably make their way back to Quirne, or somewhere else if their hearts so desired it. Perhaps taking up a perminant residence somewhere wasn't as practical as established herds seemed to think; to Aitumn it was far more effecient to change scenery depending on the season. Or even one's whim. He snorted to himself, what a strange little herd that would be.

Flicking his ears from side to side as he remained on a steady, but calm alert, Aitumn glanced over his shoulder to momentarily watch his daughters. A small smile found its way to his muzzle. How he loved this new life of his.

The golden buckskin skidded to a halt with something most interesting caught her attention. What sort of flower was this? Its sharp blue petals seemed to almost explode from its strangely green colored center, tipped in yellow. "Roze! Look at this, isn't it strange?" Strange and fascinating! She wasn't sure what her sister would think of it, but she wiggled her little tail in excitement; Roze was so cool to be around. Tehya couldn't help but adore her totally white coated sister. She was so much fun!

"Oh, ohh, what is it? What is it, Tehya?" The snowy filly quizzed, bounding over to her golden buckskin sibling. She paused beside her, studying the flower as well. It was... a flower. It was pretty, but not something she could be so fascinated and intrigued by as her tree sibling seemed to be. Still, she didn't want to ruin the fun for her sister, or upset her or anything. "Wow, it's so pretty!" She exclaimed, learning in closer to sniff at it. "Mm, it smells really good, too!" She wasn't that interested really, but her sister was, and that's all that mattered to her.

Her striking green eyes flitted up to look at their sire, and she wiggled her stubby tail. "Riruy, what is it? What's it called? Why's it smell so nice?"

User Image

The sound of light voices reached her ears, which twitched and turned in the direction of the sounds. She raised her slender head and golden eyes studied the three figures nearby. A Jala stallion, and two obviously crossbreed foals. One looked sort of like him, the other not at all. Could they be related? Possibly. Why else would he be tolerating them? Certainly, he wouldn't take in abandoned crossbreed foals. Or maybe he did? Maybe he was one of those who pitied cross foals, or felt bad for them or something. They existed in the world somewhere.

Or maybe they were his? Maybe. But why would he stay with them? Her parents never had - besides her dam, but she didn't count. She was her dam, but she never truly was a mother in any aspect.

Her bright eyes flitted momentarily to the sleeping caris nearby - the only creature that had stood by her through everything. She didn't want to wake the small creature, and so she remained where she was, and lent her head down to continue grazing. However, the alert mare kept an eye - and an ear - on the trio of figures. She hoped they'd come closer, she wanted to know their story. Was he really their father? Could the sire of cross foals actually care about them, like he seemed to? Or had he just found them and pity overtook him? She had to know, but she hated to approach others, especially with questions.

((<.< Totally making up a new species of flower.))

Aitumn turned his gaze from his daughters to the flower they seemed to be inspecting. "Hmm," he voiced as he turned his sleek body around and walked closer to them; his muzzle lowered slightly to get a better look the plant. "That's a Thalsborne flower, they grow in grassy places like D'ob and Ryuten, but Yisi is too wet and swampy for them. It smells nice because its close to spring, and that when most of them bloom." You can thank years of observation for that answer, otherwise he might not have known just what to say.

"I'm glad you like it Rose", the golden filly grinned, indeed very happy that her sister seemed to like it. It didn't quite cross her mind that she might just be playing along. Tehya was quite comfortable with her tree siblings and her family, almost rambunctius when it came down to it. "Hey Rose..." she edged closer to her sister before nudging her with her nose and jumping back. "You're it!" And with that she dashed off, unaware she was going in the direction of a stranger.

Heh, he should have figured something like this would happen. Tehya wasn't as into tag as Tucker had been at her age, but the filly did love to play games. The stallion snorted in laughter and shook his head. "I suppose we should try and catch her, Rosanzhelle" he chuckled, slowly starting off at first so the snowy filly would be able to catch up.

The young filly listened to her sire's explanation while studying the flower. It really was a very pretty flower, but then again it was just a flower. It wasn't exciting or very interesting, unlike riruy's stories were, and--

"Eep!"

The snowy foal jumped a bit in surprise and whirled around to stare at her sibling. She was too lost in thought to notice her tree-sister's actions until she felt the nudge and heard her say tag. With a broad grin, she loosed a bright whinny before bounding ahead of Aitumn and chasing after Tehya.

Hum, well, they were coming closer. Hopefully the foals would pay attention to where they were going, Reya horns were sharp and she didn't want to get stuck with one accidentally. Not that her reaction speed was slow, but she didn't want to have to stand guard until they stopped. Idly flicking her tail, the slender crossbreed raised her head after swallowing a mouthful of grass, and blinked her golden eyes. The white foal didn't look like she could possibly be related to the dark stallion, but she had a touch of gold here and there - and her sibling had a mix of gold and brown, like the stallion, so perhaps she was. It amused her how things like that could happen. Of course, the thought that they weren't related still was possible, but unlikely.

Despite Nepenthe trying to stay still and quiet, the sounds and voices of the trio nearby had awoken her sleeping companion. The small canine let out a toothy yawn as she stretched out her front paws, wriggling her tri-tails before lazily flopping over onto her side. Blinking the sleep from her eyes, she yawned again before offering her equally white friend a tired grin. "Having fun grazing? What's with all the noise?"

Hee! It was fun getting the slip on Rose, and though that didn't usually happen for whatever reason, it was fun nonetheless whenever it did. Of course she squealed in delight and surprise when BOTH her sire and sibling came chasing after her. When she turned back around she was quite surprised to see a tall, nearly almost white mare a no more than 5 yards in front of her and she slammed on the brakes. The brakes however skidded and sputtered and the golden bay filly wound up sprawled out on the ground with a rather dizzy, "Uoomphf!"

Aitumn was close behind Rose, easily keeping up with lax strides and even spurts of speed. However he noticed the white pair before Tehya fell, though didn't get the chance to say anything before hand. However the blood bay's ears pricked and trained themselves directly onto the horned mare, just to let her know he was watching. A few large, fully stretched strides and he was close enough to come a complete stop. "Sorry about that, I don't think she saw you in you time. Tehya?" She seemed alright, but he had a fair amount of his attention on the cross mare just in case.

The filly was a bit dizzy but her riruy's voice was right beside her, so there probably wasn't anything to worry about. "I'm alright Trie", she spoke, using the more formal word now that they weren't alone. The filly flicked her gaze up at the taller crossbreed and gave an embarrissed smile. "I'm sorry." At least she handed bumped into either of them.

The snowy filly also noticed the pair before her sister did, but when the other filly toppled over, Rose stepped it up and bolted over as fast as she could, coming to a screeching halt near her. "Are you okay Tehya-waru?" She quickly studied her sister over to make sure she wasn't injured at all - she hadn't grasped the concept that a lot of injuries weren't visible - and, once satisfied, she relaxed her muscles and wiggled her stubby tail. "You should be more careful!"

The slender mare side-stepped and turned around to better face the trio, and took a step or two back to allow them more room if they so needed. She liked her space, as did others. "It's quite alright," she said with a polite bob of her head in response to both. So, he was the father of both? It certainly seemed so. How lucky these foals were to have a sire who actually cared. A dam, too, perhaps? Yes, perhaps. She wouldn't ask, though, just in case they didn't.

Cassia squeaked in surprise as a gold and brown something had landed right next to her. She jumped up and in an instant was behind her taller companion, peering out at the others before giving a nervous laugh. Bravery right after waking up was not her strong suit. "Ah, hi there," she said, attempting to recover herself, and she padded out from behind the adult crossbreed. "My name is Cassia," with a polite bow, of course, "and this is my dear friend, Nepenthe. Are you alright there, Tehya? Is that it?" She hoped she hadn't butchered the young foal's name, she hated pronouncing names wrong.

Oh my, her head was still spinning from a fall like that, but nothing seemed too sore. At least she didn't think it was. She turned a rather sheepish grin to her tree-sibling and attempting to look as presentable as possible. That really had hurt. "I'm okay, really I am." The little filly spoke up, pushing herself up onto her hooves once more. She wobbled slightly, stumbling to the side a little bit. "Oi, a little dizzy though," she answered.

Okay, well the initial threat of an unfriendly mare and caris was proven wrong by their polite responses. The blood bay Jala relaxed considerablly and allowed for a more friendly variation of pricked ears and attentive listening. Although when Tehya stumbled he did reach down to give her a nuzzle at the shoulder that would hopefully help settle her. Turning a smile toward Rose he chuckled, "I'm sure she'll be fine." Flicking his gaze back up to the predominately white pair Aitumn returned the polite bow. "Its nice to meet you both, I'm Aitumn, and my other daughter here is Rose. I believe you've already met Tehya." It was rather nice to meet decent folk.

The golden filly, once she was able to stand properly, grinned at her sibling before turning her attention to the canine creature. She had never seen one of those before! It was quite fascinating, and funny. "Hello, yes I believe I'm alright." She stretched her forelimbs and neck out a bit just to be sure. Yep, everything seemed to be okay. "And yup, that's my name." Phew. Now that she was okay, and the embarrisment was gone, she backed up to stay next to her sister. Heh, she prefered staying next to Rose.

The snowy mare blinked, studying the trio. The father was dark, but he wasn't black besides his mane; he'd be fine in the Hellene territories. ...if they were in them, that is; she'd forgotten how far she'd strayed out of the herdlands. It was her day off, though, to rest and to recover. Not from any serious injury, though; just from daily training. She did enjoy her training, although it was different than the training offered to the other forces.

Blinking again to detach herself from her thoughts, she peered down at the two foals, then at the blood bay. "Are they really yours?" She couldn't help but ask. It could have been rude, yes, but she wanted to know. Did the parents of some crosses really stay? Perhaps he had to, if there were two. Perhaps more? She hadn't heard of couples of different breeds having more than a few. Should she...? Yes. "Do you have more?"

The small foal blinked up curiously at the strange mare, studying her horn. They looked alike, she realized, except she had a straight horn while she and her siblings had curved ones. She had the urge to ask her riruy why the mare - Nepenthe? - had asked such a question, but she figured it would be better to remain silent for now beside her golden-bay sibling.

Cassia offered them all a sheepish grin, plopping herself down in front of her companion. "Sorry if she's a bit forward," she said, ignoring the look the mare gave her, but it was true.

Apparently decent folk could be curious as well. The question surprised him considerably and he tossed his great, midnight mane in response, amusement flashing across his features. Now he had never heard anything like that before, and he wasn't willing to take it the wrong way. He too had been curious over the colorings of several of his foals, espeically the shocking white of both Rose and Tucker. "Yes, they are, as well as their three other tree siblings, and their older brother", he couldn't help the deep chuckle that formed around his words, rocking his sides slightly. "Their mother and I were quite surprised by this tree's number of fruits, I can guaruntee you that."

In his experiance, it was best not to explode at any mildly curious question that happened upon him. However, that didn't stop the proud arch of his neck as he spoke of his children, or the sub-concious flick of his lengthy tail. He was indeed proud of his little family, and loved them dearly enough to display his physical physique and its fitness to ward off any potential threats. For Aitumn, in all his experiance, was quite an apt fighter if he did say so himself.

Tehya shifted beside her sister, tilting her head at the snowy caris. She had never really seen one before, so it was a creature that held interest. Enough for her to break the slightly wall of silence that normally plagued her in coversation. She opened her mouth to speak, but quickly shut it, side-stepping closer to Rose. It was easier to deal with new people when she knew one of her family was directly close to her. "Cassia, how did you and Nepenthe become friends?" she addressed the furry creature. There must be an interesting story to go along with it, she was sure. And Tehya loved stories.
PostPosted: Thu May 07, 2009 10:17 am

Nepenthe's bright gold eyes opened a bit wider. "Five?" The couple had had five fruits? All had survived, too? She'd never heard of such a thing, and apparently this stallion hadn't either, but he certainly seemed quite proud of the fact. And their dam was still with them, as well. Both parents, six crossbreed children total. Apparently there were some who were proud and happy to have cross children, despite the general populace's opinions on mixed bloods.

Rose was studying Cassia as well; she hadn't seen a thing like her before, but when Tehya moved a bit closer and posed her question, the snowy filly couldn't help but dance in place a bit. She loved stories, too. "Oh, oh! Yes, please, do tell us! We love stories," she exclaimed. She knew her tree-sibling loved them too, perhaps moreso than she did.

The caris beamed and swished her dark-tipped tails. "Alright, then. Where to start..." Hmm.. This could be a rather difficult story. Well.. As long as she chose the right words, it'd be fine. Good.

"Well, it was when we were both little. Nepenthe was about your size, and I was just a pup. I was alone at a young age, and I didn't know where to find other caris pups to play with. I found a Jala herd in the valley one day, but none of the foals wanted to play with me. After a couple suns I was about to move on - some of them didn't like me hanging around, but they were too slow to get me - I spotted Nepenthe all by herself, looking so sad. I went up and asked if she wanted to play with me, and do you know what she said?" She asked and paused, but not long enough for either to answer. "'What does 'play' mean?' Can you believe it? She didn't know what playing meant! Well you can bet your hooves I showed her what it meant and taught her all sorts of games, and we've been friends ever since!" No need to tell them anything else; that's what Tehya had asked for, and that's what she'd received. It wasn't that she didn't like the filly, of course not; she just didn't want to go too into the past. She knew Nepenthe didn't like it much.

The blood bay's ears twitched at the surprise that seemed to show on Nepenthe's face, and couldn't help but feel some form of satisfaction. Yes, five healthy, growing crossbreed foals, and he couldn't be happier. Its not as though he wouldn't have been proud to have just one healthy foal this time around, oh no. He was certain he would have been just as happy, and at less of a loss. Thus far it was much more difficult to raise five young foals as opposed to raising just one at a time, like they had done with Tucker.

The stallion's thoughts had drifted off as soon as the caris had begun her story for the foals, with Aitumn having chuckled slightly to himself at first. It was probably his fault that he had gotten them so hooked on story-telling, but he didn't see that as any sort of problem.

The little filly was excited her tree-sister also seemed to share in her enthusiasm to listen to the story, but quickly quieted herself down as Cassia began to tell them. "She didn't know how to play?" Tehya blurted at the end of it, looking to the much older cross with curiousity. However, that was the extent of the foal's prying, having already been satsified with Cassia's story. It had turned out alright, hadn't it? They were still friends! Of course it had! Tehya pulled her lips into a smile and nodded her head, returning her gaze to Cassia. "Its good you're still friends with each other." Obvious, but she was glad the story hadn't had some awful twist at the end. That wouldn't have been good at all.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 24, 2009 1:09 pm

Nepenthe blinked golden eyes as she listened absent-mindedly to the caris's tale. She remembered a lot more things than that during that time, but the two fillies didn't need to hear about any of that. The simple story would be good enough. Although, she wasn't exactly sure what to say, really, so she simply let Cassia do the talking.

And talk she did. "Nope! She didn't know how to play, never even heard the word, I don't think! Isn't that just awful?" The white canine asked. "But she knows all sorts of games now, and yep, we're still best friends, and we can play games all the time," she said with a nod, grinning toothily at the fillies. "You both are lucky you have so many siblings to play with, neither of us had any."

"You didn't?" Rose questioned, eyes widening slightly. "Really?" Well, it wasn't that strange; their tree-sibling Tucker-waru hadn't had any siblings to play with until they hatched, but by then he was all grown up. At least he had ute and riruy to play with growing up. Come to think of it... "Why couldn't either of you play with your ute or riruy?" She inquired, not even thinking that it could be a question better left unasked.

For now he was content to allow his daughters the oppertunity to talk with the two mostly white creatures, seeing as how he himself usually didn't aid in long conversations. That was just Aitumn; however, and he saw no problem in allowing the girls to- uh, scratch that. Hearing Rose's question about playing with parents the sleek blood bay immediatly flicked his ears back appologetically to both Cassia and Nepenthe. He wasn't ignorant of how most of the general populous felt about cross foals, and he had the nagging idea that something like that might be the case. Or something equally as bad, but either way he thought it best to allow the two white creatures to take care of this answer themselves.

Who cared about that? Okay, well, Tehya was somewhat curious herself, but! Her attention had been grabbed by something completely different than that. As soon as she got a good look at Cassia's teeth, the young filly couldn't help but stare an in awed sort of way. Riruy didn't have teeth like that, and neither did ute. She was also certain non of her tree-siblings did either... but maybe she should check her brother's when they get back. They bit pretty hard, even while they were just playing. "Cassia... what big teeth you have. And sharp, too! Why are they like that?" Oh, she just couldn't wait to hear the answer! The golden bay wiggled her little tail excitedly.

It seemed both of his daughters were quite inquesitive about the pair. Hopefully they weren't stepping over any bounds with their questions, but if Cassia or Nepenthe didn't want to answer them than that'd be fine. He'd just need to explain to his girls that some of those questions were private matters. Shifting his feathered wings against his sides Aitumn glanced toward the direction of the sun, and judged that they had stayed out long enough. Soon, they would need to join Cressida and the rest of the family back at the tree.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 11, 2009 4:29 pm

The mare flicked her ears back at the question, but Cassia grinned widely, swiftly taking the second question by opening her mouth as wiiiiiiide as she could. "'ee?" She attempted to say with mouth open before shutting it again and grinning at the pair. "I'm a caris; I don't eat grass like you two do, I need sharp teeth because I..." Oh dear, she probably shouldn't tell them her usual meaty diet; they wouldn't like that. "...I eat fruit! I need sharp teeth cuz I have to jump and pull the branches down! Yeah, and if I had flat teeth I couldn't get any, I'd have to eat the stuff on the ground and that's always bad, and some of them have bugs in them and they're not good for you like that," she informed them with a knowing dip of her head. So what if it wasn't the truth? That was better for young foals to hear than how she had to chase down her meals and kill them, surely.

Well, that surely wasn't what Cassia ate, the pale mare knew for a fact, but she wouldn't say otherwise. They were still young foals and didn't know any better - thus the personal questions, some of which were a bit too personal, but the caris had quickly taken care of that by tactfully avoiding the question.

"Really?" The golden-horned filly asked, peering curiously at the canine's teeth. She knew her sire and dam could grab branches no problem, but maybe it was different for a caris? She probably had to shake it really hard or something! And with sharp teeth, she would be able to hold onto it to shake it better, since she obviously couldn't reach the fruit on the branches like nequus could. Maybe if nequus were shorter, they'd have sharp teeth? Oh, but that would hurt if they played games like that played! And her tree-siblings bit hard enough with flat teeth!

Oh my! Cassia had ALOT of sharp teeth in her mouth, not just the four pointy ones in the front. To think, she needed them to jump all the way up to a tree's branch and then shake it to get fruit down- what a minute. The golden filly raised her brows just slightly as she thought that scenario through. Wouldn't fangs like that be too delicate to sink into wood and then shake? Wood was pretty hard, but maybe a caris was suppose to be really, really strong. Yes, that made much more sense. "That's amazing Cassia, I think that would hurt my teeth if I tried it," and she winced slightly at the thought of having to do that.

Aitumn withheld a chuckle at the canine's explanation, not wanting to tip his girl's off on the lie. It was much better this way, he decided, seeing as how he didn't really have any stories to explain just why other creatures needed to eat each other to survive. Luckily, Nequus were not one of them. However, it really was begining to get late, so the blood bay nudged both Rose and Tehya in the shoulder before speaking. "We need to get back to the tree, we've been gone long enough and I'm sure your mother misses us", he assured them. That, and he didn't want Cressida getting overwhelmed with the three boys. Turning his attention to Cassia and Nepenthe, "It was very nice to meet you both, I hope we weren't too much trouble." By we, he obviously meant his two inquisitive daughters.
