The snow was melting away as Adelle wandered far from her home. Her hooves would slip and slid along the mud patches that had replaced the fair white snow. But no matter the conditions, it didn't stop her from searching for her adopted son. The dove like mare would wander far from home looking for the angeni foal she had taken in, a long time ago. She knew that by now he would no longer be a foal, but she still kept searching. Her heart had been torn into pieces when she realized that her son had ran away from home.

"Alexiel!" She called out, her voice hoarse from the shouting she had been doing the past few days. If she didn't find him soon, she would have to return to the skies and back to Shihab. This would probably be the last time she would go out searching for her angeni son, and if she couldn't find him this time she didn't know what she would do. "Oh please Alexiel! Please come home!"

A silver coloured stallion soarced delicately through the crisp sky, double wings flapping in tandem. By definition of breed, he was born to the sky, as comfortable in the air as on the ground. Alexiel moved out of habit now, out of a wandering that called him to nowhere and no one. His life had become routine, everything cast aside for his goal, his desire to kill Wyrm. There was nothing anymore that bound him, nothing that concerned his mind other than the burn of his muscles and the sound of his hooves striking his invisible foe. Nothing more than the determination to right the wrong that had been commited on him so many years ago by that skinwalker. There was nothing else his mind thought of. Except one.

Her. He had thought of her much lately, due to Neva really. For as much as he hated the cursed mare, she had brought up a point. His desertion, and his mother's pain. He had not meant it to be that way, but in all honesty he hadn't been thinking of anything but himself when he had ran away, so convinced by that coniving excuse for a daughter that Adelle didn't care for him at all. She did though, of course she did. And somehow, Alexiel had to make it up to her. He had been to the north, where Neva had said she was, but found nothing, only blistering storms and freezing temperatures. Stupid of him really, to believe anything that Neva told him, but he had hoped so much that she would be there. And so he had decided to try the place of his birth, as he flew back from the north.

Alexiel!

A voice, and Alexiel's ears perked. It was faint, and had come somewhere from the ground. Curiously, he caught a downdraft and rode it, spiraling inwards as the voice called again, louder this time. And this time, there was no mistaking the voice. He landed in front of the silvery mare, feet muddy from the ground, and mane in tangles from her journey. With a pang, he realized she had been looking for him.

Alexiel stood before her, no longer the foal he had once been. His once spindley legs had grown tall and strong, and sculpted muscles stood out beneath his coat. His wings had all grown, lengthened and become more defined, carried proud and upright. And his eyes no longer held the youthful innocence Adelle would remember him with. They were old eyes now, eyes that carried a burden far greater than his age. But still, they held a softness when Alex looked at the mare.

"Mother. It's...been a long time."

Adelle had just about given up calling for her son, when from the sky landed this stallion that seemed to tower over her. It couldn't be, no it really couldn't be, could it? Was she dreaming it? Her heart race as she took in every inch of the winged stallion's form. It looked like her Alexiel, but this big and this handsome? Hearing him call her mother, she knew it had to be true.

Tears came to her eyes as she dropped to ground. "Oh Alexiel, Alexiel it's really you. It really is you." She repeated herself numerous times, between the tears of happiness that now flowed from her eyes. Her heart would now be able to begin the path of healing, now that one of the holes was filled. Her Alexiel was alive! It was more than she could have ever asked for. This was one of the happiest days that has happened to her in a long time. The dove like mare was glad that she hadn't given up her search for her adopted son, even though she was now crying in front of him, but she just couldn't help it. She found her son!

He trotted forward, concerned as she collaspsed, but the realized it was more out of happiness than anything. Alexiel smiled softly, walking over to her and nuzzling her gently. She looked so small now, so fragile. Had she always been this way? When he had been a colt, she had seemed so strong, so assured. She seemed smaller now that he had grown so much. And yet it was still her, it was still the mare that had raised him and cared for him all his younger years. And now it was not he that needed her, but her that needed him.

He nosed away her tears as she cried. "No need to cry mother. It's me. I'm sorry I left, I'm so sorry I left you."

And he was sorry, sorry for the pain that he had caused her, sorry that Neva had been right about him causing her trouble. But never again, he vowed, noever again would he cause this gentle mare pain. But Alexiel was also happy, happy that she cared. He had known she cared, had always known it really, but his young mind, tainted by Neva and then shattered by Wyrm, and not been able to think of that at the time. Looking back, it had been foolish to believe that mare. But at least now he knew the truth, at least now he knew and now he had returned to his mother once more. It had been far too long.

The gentle mare nuzzled her son as she lay on the ground crying. "I'm sorry for crying like this, I'm just so happy I found you." Adelle blinked away some tears that hung on her eyes as she looked up at Alexiel. "You don't need to apologize to me. I know I'm not the world's best mother. Though why did you run away without saying anything?" The winged mare blushed slightly as she hadn't meant to ask that question but her mind and her heart needed to know.

Laying on the cold muddy ground was starting to affect the small mare as she started to shiver slightly. She tried to hide it from Alexiel and hoped he didn't notice her body shaking slightly with the cold, but she had not the energy to stand. "Please tell me what all you've done since you left, I'm sure you have plenty of stories to tell. Especially with as big as you are now. I can't believe how big you've gotten. I feel so tiny against you." She rambled on hoping to distract the angeni from her shivering.

"I'm happy that I found you too. But you're wrong. You are most certainly the world's best mother. I'm just not the world's best son," Alexiel said with a regretful smile. At her next question he paused, contemplating what to say. Should he tell her? Alexiel had always been honest, that was how Adelle had raised him and even after he had left, it was something he strongly believed in. And yet...he didn't know whether or not he should tell her of Neva. Her black-hearted black sheep of a daughter that had filled his mind with lies, and even now sought nothing more than to ruin her mother's life. It would hurt her even more to know of her daughter's deciet. But would it be better if Adelle was prepared? He wasn't sure.

"I rain away because...I encountered a mare, who lied to me about you, told me that you didn't care about me. I was stupid to believe her, but I did." If Adelle asked more about the mare, he would have to tell her it was Neva, but if she didn't, Alexiel didn't have the heart to tell her how horrible her daughter was.

He looked at her again and frowned, she was shivering, such a fragile mare...the cold did not do her well. She looked weak right now, far weaker than he had seen her before, and she didn't even stand up. Converned again, Alexiel went to her side, laying down beside her and pressing his larger body against hers, draping his double wings over her back and warming her with his body. "You need to take better care of yourself," he told her. "I don't want you getting sick. Here, we'll warm you up and then find somewhere warmer than this ground to talk."

As Alexiel spoke of the mare that had filled his head with lies, deep down Adelle had a sinking suspicion of who that mare really was. There was no one in the lands that knew Adelle that could make up lies about her, no one, except for one. "It was Neva wasn't it?" Her voice was so quiet as she said it, she wasn't even sure that he had heard it.

Shaking her head, Adelle tried to resist Alexiel getting on the ground with her, but knew it was of no use. As he covered her with his wings, she couldn't help but lean into him, his warmth comforting her. "I care not about myself. My family matters more than me, I should be the one taking care of you." She said with a small nod. "Taking care of all my children is my first priority, and with you gone I had to look for you. I couldn't just let you go that easily."

The warmth from Alexiel's body comforted her, as her tears soon slowed down to just a trickle. Though knowing that it was Neva that caused her youngest son to run away from home, almost brought them back. Why did her daughter hate her so? What did she do wrong? The mare gave a sad sigh as she thought back to the days of Neva as a young foal, and wondered whatever happened to those days.

Alexiel looked at the grass, shifting unconfortably for a moment as Adelle whispered the name. Neva. Yes...yes it had been Neva. So even his mother knew, that no other soquili could stoop so low. He wondered how Neva had turned out so badly, what had made her detest her mother so much. Mostly he wondered how on earth it was even possible to hate his mother, who didn't have a mean bone in her body.

"Yes....It was Neva. But at least it was not permanent. I'm back now, so don't worry yourself any more."

Alexiel gave a small chuckle as she murmered the bit about her children being first priority for her to take care of. Yes, she was a good mother. The best mother really. To come looking for him like she did, and for so long too. But at least he was grown now, and nothing like what Neva had done the first time would happen with him again. The grey stallion was older now, much wiser than his young self had been, he would not make the mistake of trusting that poisonous mare again.

"Well, now that I'm grown, and you've found me safe and sound it should be you resting. I know your first priority is your family, but your family needs you to take care of yourself now. I can return the favour at last. Now that I've grown enough to take care of you, as you took care of me for so long."

Adelle sighed quietly once more, thoughts racing through her mind of all of her children. She felt quite old and having to do with the pain of losing one child and then two had brought that on sooner than it should have. "I'm glad you're back. I missed you so much while you were gone." Her voice was quiet as she spoke.

"I shouldn't be resting. I should be taking care of you and the rest of my family. I know I did something wrong to cause one of my children to hate me so, and now I make up for it by doing my best to take care of everyone." She attempted to stand up, but her legs would not let her get all the way up. "I need to take care of you. You've been gone for so long. What if you have some hidden injury that even you know nothing about." She looked at Alexiel, her eyes giving away her worry and fear.
