Sample Number One
(( set in an alternate universe for a couple of original characters in which said characters are stars in a rather shady ... porn studio >_>;;; ))

Thus far ... this had been most probably the shittiest birthday Farlest could remember having in just about his entire life. Minus when he had first turned old enough for his father to start legally using him in his films. That had not been a fun day either ... but this was looking to top it, the way things were going.

First of all, he absolutely detested getting up early. He'd avoid it in any way possible. Today, there hadn't been any way to do so, as he had a shoot to do at literally eight AM. Which meant getting up at least an hour earlier or risk his father's wrath. He didn't need that much time to get ready ... but far be it from him to tell anyone else that.

Then it turned out that said shoot was not one of the more pleasant ones, and it left him aching in places he really didn't want to be hurting. And after that it turned out that he had (surprise!) two more shoots to do, all in a row. Neither of those were very pleasant either ... though the last was with Nash, so it was a bit better. As careful as Nash could be, however ... Farlest was already hurting too much and was too damn tired for it to do any good.

Ah. And add to that. Absolutely no-one seemed to remember at all that today was his birthday. Everyone just carried on like it was a normal day (despite the fact that it was actually turning out to be a very bad day for him). Not to mention that he hadn't been able to see Ka all damn week. Again, thanks to dear old dad. He missed the other, and was starting to wonder ... just a little ... if Ka missed him as well, or if he was even thinking of him.

Once Nash left the studio after their shoot, Farlest curled up in a small ball in the middle of that bed and tried very hard not to give in to the tears that were threatening now - had been for a matter of hours, in fact. He didn't know for sure how long he stayed there before he heard the door open - jolting him out of his own dark thoughts. He pushed up, shoving hair of his face ... knowing this place was probably going to be used again soon and he should leave.

"Farlest?" a voice called, and he blinked. Ka..? It was indeed Ka'hmesh, and he stepped into that darkened studio, padding over toward the bed. "You are still in here ... thought that you might be," he murmured.

Within a matter of moments, Farlest had practically launched himself off of that bed and into the other's arms. He clung to clothing, burying his face in Ka's chest ... and now those tears did come, the smaller man unable to stop them.

Ka jumped just a bit, staring for a moment ... the moved to put his arms about the other, holding him. He didn't ask what was wrong, having talked to Nash a bit before coming here. He could more or less guess. Finally, he moved, pulling the other closer and shifted them both onto the bed, where he held Farlest practically in his lap and began to murmur softly, soothing.

Eventually, the sobbing started to subside, and Far took a few deep, shuddering breaths, his hold on Ka slowly easing just a bit. "All right ..?" Ka asked, softly, one hand having gone almost automatically to run fingers through the other's hair.

Farlest sniffed and lifted his head, offering a sort of shaky smile. "Y-yea ... I ... thank you," he murmured.

Ka smiled at that and leaned in for a kiss, gently wiping away the remainder of those tears. "Mm ... good. Then get dressed, we're going out for a bit."

Far blinked up at the other, confused. Going out ...? Where? He didn't ask questions out loud though, just nodded and moved to grab a robe so he could go back to his room and retrieve real clothes. Ka followed, slipping into that room behind him and waiting while he got dressed. Then he took the other's hand again, and headed for the door with a smile.

Mystified by this point, Farlest followed without asking any questions - grinning when they stepped outside and he spotted Ka's bike. He loved to ride on it with the other ... as it meant he pretty much had to be close and any contact was automatically loved by the dark-haired young man. Ka glanced back with another little smile and then handed over the extra helmet and climbed on. Once Farlest was on as well (and snuggled in quite close to his back with arms about his waist), he took off for the nearest mall.

Once there, he took the other's hand again and walked to a store just inside the door he had parked by. It turned out to be a jewelry store and Far gave Ka a bit of an odd look. Ka just smiled again, though, and walked up to the counter. "Hi," he said. "My, ah, friend here would like to get his ears pierced. A second hole in each one."

Farlest blinked. "I would?"

"Yes, you would. Don't argue," Ka murmured, then turned that smile back on the clerk.

Charmed, she nodded and came out from behind the counter to the ear-piercing station. "What studs would you like ..." she trailed off, looking from one of them to the other.

Ka leaned over the display for just a moment and then pointed to a pair of gold studs set with tiny emeralds. He wasn't sure if they were real or not but they certainly looked pretty enough and the gold was of high enough quality that they were fairly expensive.

"Ka..." Farlest started, but he got no farther than that in his protest, as Ka turned and put a finger over his lips.

"Hush." Another of those little smiles. "This is a present."

Far blinked, uncomprehending. By this point, he'd pushed the fact that it was his birthday to the back of his mind - refusing to think of it in the hopes that it wouldn't make things more terrible.

"It is your birthday, yes?" Ka asked, raising one brow a little.

Another blink. Oh! "It ... it is but ... Ka ..."

"Yeeees?" The brow rose a little farther.

"How did you know?" he asked, as the clerk watched the two of them with a rather amused look on her face.

"I asked around," he replied evasively. It didn't really matter how he knew, what mattered was that he did know, right? He turned, raising brows at the clerk in a sort of silent question.

"Ready when you are boys," she said, having put the first of the studs into the small piercing gun, and now holding it up.

Far looked over and nodded, grinning. One hand reached out to grasp Ka's - again, contact. He'd been through a lot of things that hurt far more than this would ... but yes. Any excuse to touch, to hold, and he would take it. He'd wanted to get a second hole in his ears for some time now, he simply hadn't had the time or inclination, really, to go and do it. How Ka had known that really was a mystery.

Lost in thought, he almost completely missed the clerk swabbing at his ear and marking it. Ka leaned around a little and nodded. And even though he was expecting it, Farlest still jumped just a little at the loud click and the little p***k of pain as the first earring went in. Ka squeezed his hand a bit and smiled. The other ear went just as quickly and Far practically bounced out of the chair to go and look into the mirror.

It was amazing at times how he could bounce from one emotion to the next. But Ka was here, and not only that, he'd figured out it was his birthday and then done something for him, planned it. And because of all of that ... Farlest was happy now.

Ka, meanwhile, paid for the piercing and studs and then moved in behind Far, wrapping arms about him from behind. "They look good on you," he murmured into an ear, lips just barely brushing over one of those new earrings.

Far shivered at that, and hummed softly. "Mmm ... " Then he shifted, turning in the other's arms and leaning up to steal a kiss - completely ignoring the clerk now. Her eyes widened just a little, but she smiled and left them alone. There wasn't anyone else in here at the moment to be offended and she was quite enjoying watching them.

Ka leaned down a little himself to give that kiss, eyes lidding. Then he pulled back and glanced around for a moment. "Do you have anything else to do the rest of today?" he asked.

"Who knows," Far replied, just a hint of bitterness creeping into his voice. "I seem to be at everyone's beck and call lately."

Ka tilted his head at that, and grinned. "Well then. Now you're at mine. And we are not going back to the studio. We are going to my apartment and we are staying there until sometime tomorrow morning most likely." He had some wine at home ... and he could order dinner. Mm ... yes. That would be nice.

Emerald green eyes sparkling to match his new earrings, Farlest nodded, grinning back. "That sounds lovely..."

Leading him out of the store, Ka murmured, "Happy birthday, Farlest," and for the first time that day ... Far believed that it actually would be.

Sample Number Two
(( Same characters, more canon storyline XD. In this one, Farlest is a stripper in a club, and Ka'hmesh a bouncer - but they work at separate places. ))

Farlest was not having a good night. In his line of work, there were always going to be one or two people who tried to take advantage - who made rude suggestions and tried to catch him when he got offstage. Tonight ... there had been no less than four - and all in a group. With that many, they could work together, even drunk, to corner him, run him down. Far had tried to back away, to -get- away ... but they were having none of it. And it didn't help that he'd only just recently come back from Zain's ... tender mercies. Biting his lip, the elf did his best not to whimper ... not to show how very afraid he was, watching them with wide emerald-green eyes.

And then ... rescue. One of the bouncers had noticed and run them off. Though ... it wasn't Ka. They'd taken to working at separate places, making them harder to find, to track down. Farlest saw the sense in it but right now, he really wished his lover and husband was -here-. It took a moment before he realized the other bouncer was talking to him, asking if he was ok. He swallowed and nodded, only then noticing that for some reason, his eyes were wet, and he was shaking. "No, you're not," the bouncer said, voice strangely gentle.

They sent him home early. Farlest knew, in his head, that these bouts of more extreme (even for him) emotion most likely came from being pregnant, but that didn't stop him from feeling ... from hurting. In truth, he would have rather stayed at the club. In a way, he'd felt safer there ... better. With other people around him, he could ignore the loneliness that gnawed at him now. Could focus on something else.

Not anymore. Now he was at home ... all alone, and it would likely be hours before Ka got off. Farlest was biting his lip again, trying unsuccessfully to hold back tears. He wanted -Ka- ... wanted to be held and loved and not ... be alone anymore. Not now, not tonight.

Standing in the living room, shivering slightly with the intensity of emotions he couldn't control, his gaze fell on a laundry basket. It had apparently been dropped off here on its way to the washroom - clothes in it still dirty. For some reason he couldn’t name, Far made his way over to it, picking through the clothes until he pulled out one of his husband's shirts. At some point, Far had taken off his own shirt ... or maybe he'd never put it back on before they sent him home. He couldn't remember.

All he knew was that -this- shirt smelled like Ka ... felt like him. With a little lost noise, he slipped it on, not caring that it was far too big, wrapping it around himself in hopes that the shivering would stop. Eyes lidding, he brought one of the lower corners up, clutched in trembling fists, and pressed it against his lips, nose.

"Meleth..?" a quiet voice interrupted his reverie. Far jumped and looked up, eyes wide and filled with tears still. Ka was standing in the doorway, staring at him.

With a small cry, the elf dropped the shirt and darted across the room, quite literally flinging himself into Ka's arms, face buried in his chest. Ka actually jumped a little as well, before folding arms about him, making a soft, soothing sound. "Someone called me from the club ... said you got really shaken up and they sent you home," he murmured after a moment. "I found somebody to fill in for me ... meleth ... are you all right?" Ka asked then, reaching to tilt the other's head up with a finger under his chin.

Far stared, blinking slightly, and then nodded, and immediately ducked his head again, pressing as close as possible. "I ... I'm ok. I just ... wanted you," he tried to explain, knowing he wasn't doing a very good job, and just hoping that Ka wouldn't let go. Never let go...

Ka blinked as well, and then just smoothed his hands down along dark hair, eyes lidding. "Shh ... it's all right. I'm here." After a moment, he shifted to scoop the smaller male up in his arms, heading for the bedroom. "I think what you need is some snuggling, and then dinner ... maybe a little sex later?" he suggested, only half teasing.

The last startled Far into a small laugh, and he snuggled in closer, perfectly happy to be -right here-. "Sounds wonderful, meleth ..." he murmured in return, rather suddenly deciding tonight wasn't a -total- loss.

Sample Number Three
(( Gaia RP, set in the Shinkami School of Saviors shop... Zach is my boy. Micajah is owned by Rown :3 ))

Aaah finally out of class for the afternoon. Grinning, Zach headed out of the building, wondering idly if anyone he knew was around. He hadn't seen Jaden or Elijah for a little while ...

Sticking hands in his pockets, he headed for the grassy area outside the Mall, thinking of maybe going and looking around in there if there was nothing else to do.

He adjusted the strap on his bookbag as he scurried out of the building, his eyes cast down and his expression rather dreary as he thought of the work that lay ahead. He'd sort of fallen asleep in class today and was given a bit of a nudge in the way of extra work to make up for it, and Micajah sighed deeply as he knew any plans for sitting outside and watching the sunset this evening were out the window.

"Perhaps I should pay more attention to what the time is when I go to bed and prevent this from happening again. I knew it's all a learning experiance, but this is sort of ridiculous."

He scoffed inwardly and switched paths as he came to a small fork, uncaring that he was going the opposite direction of where he wanted to go. When the path beneath him ceased to be actual path and had instead turned into grass, he looked up from his dejected glance and blanched at the area around him.

"...."

He was lost...again.

Zach caught sight of the other boy just as he was about to turn toward the Mall. Blinking slightly, he tilted his head, watching him for a moment or two. He looked ... lost. And Zach hadn't seen him before, which meant he was probably new. Even though he didn't know everyone all that well, he at least knew what other boys had been here for a while - so he could spot a new one easily enough.

Changing direction, he turned and headed toward the other, waving. "Hey!" he called out. "You lost..?"

Micajah's head snapped up as the sound of someones voice calling to him filled his ears, and his cheeks flushed with deep embarrassment as the speak clearly pointed out the boy's obvious distress without a second guess. He sighed inwardly, clearly thinking that his facial expression must give away every bit of his inner thoughts if someone could guess that easily.

"Ah...yes. I am, actually."

He rubbed the back of his neck as he waited for the boy to get closer, and he quickly snapped in his brain that rubbing his neck was sort of rude to do as a gesture and if he didn't watch out it could become a nasty habit. Micajah dropped his hand to his side, then quickly shifted his arms behind his back and folded them while adjusting his posture. He seemed so fidgety, but it was probably because he'd been called on his error.

While it was a learning lesson, to be sure, he felt stupid. Part of him demanded that he memorize his location for future reference, and part of him cried at the other part's demands. It was complex, really.

Zach smiled as he came up to the other - the nervousness not hard to pick up on at all. "Hiya," he said then. "I'm Zach ... sorry for kinda yelling it out like that. But don't worry, I wouldn't have if anyone else was around." He paused and leaned in a little, like he was telling a secret. "And I won't tell anyone. Trust me, I got lost a lot too when I first got here."

Stopping in front of the other, he rocked back on his heels a little, still smiling, then stuck out a hand to shake, trying to make the other boy feel a bit more at ease.

He settled down at the other boy finally drew near, and when he was offered up a smile he felt all the nervous nature he had in him drop out like water from a sponge.

"Don't worry about it, and it's good to know I'm not the only one whose direction sense is a little skewed. And thank you, that helps. I mean it."

Micajah smiled and politely and took the extended hand into his own, his cheeks tinting a soft hue of pink as he shook it. He was quite happy actually that the person who had called out to him happened to be someone so kind, and he was thrilled to note that he'd learned another new person's name.

"My name is Micajah, but most people tend to call me Mica or Aja. It seems that Micajah is quite a mouthful to pronounce. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Zach blinked at that, shaking and then letting go again, lips quirking. "Well ... Mica it is then. My full name's actually Ethan Zachary Williams, but I just go by Zach cause it's easier."

Glancing around, he wondered where the other had been trying to get to ... well ... no reason he couldn't ask, right? "Where were you headed..? Oh, and when did you get here?"

"I see. You have a nice name then, and I hope you don't mind if I will call you Zach."

He pulled his hand back as the other released it, placing it on the shoulder strap of his bag before nervously watching his fingers twitch. He was being asked questions about himself, and he wasn't sure how much of them he could honestly answer. Well, he could answer both of them without any real trouble, so he smiled and pointed back in the other direction.

"Believe it or not, I was trying to return to the dorms so I could get a jump start on my extra assignments. I sort of fell asleep in one of my classes and have some additioanl work to do as a way of making it up."

He shrugged sheepishly and let out a small grin that matched in nature, but he took another breath before deciding to continue.

"As for when I arrived here at ShinKami, it was perhaps a little over three weeks ago. I'm still getting used to everything and everyone, as I've never been to a school like this before. I was always homeschooled with a private tutor for each subject."

Oops, he told a bit more about himself than he actually wanted to or need to, but it was okay.

Zach shook his head at that, still smiling - trying to put the other a little more at ease. Though he may look like a bit of a punk kid, he was usually a pretty nice person, especially here ... where he didn't really have to keep up appearances for anyone.

"I don't mind, I practically told ya to already." He tilted his head a little, then, wondering why Mica had been going this way if he meant to go to the dorms ... which were the other direction.

"And yea, extra works sucks ... you must've been working hard so far, though, since I haven't seen you before now. I was one of the first ones to come this term. Which track are you in, Mica..? I'm in Magic, myself."

Micajah relaxed a bit more as Zach continued to ask questions and despite his friendly smile and seemingly willing nature, he was going to answer only in a way that protected himself and gave what information was directly needed. There was no need for excess chatter, even if he was trying to make a new friend and learn from them.

"My track? I'm in Magic as well, since it caught my interest back when I was preparing to enter this school. I'm not very fond of sciences as they can be explained through testing, but I like the mysteries that follow behind Magic and the people who understand it."

He grinned widely at the comment, and he felt inwardly that he was slowly enjoying the company of this boy in front of him. Although Zach asked quite a few questions that made him have to honestly answer, he was glad to have someone here so friendly, someone who could be similar to him.

"As for my overworking, I'm somewhat of an overachiever according to my Father. I always try to strive and get the best I can, even if it's not really needed. Odd, huh?"

Zach nodded at that, listening. "It's not really that odd ... some people just like to work, I guess." The way he said it wasn't condescending or anything though, just an observation. For his own part, he would do his work and do it well ... but then once it was done, he didn't generally go looking for extra.

As for picking a side ... "I could've gone either way myself ... I kinda picked magic because, well ... I'm fascinated with Elves and other fantasy stuff." He flushed just slightly, glancing down. "Have been since I was a kid ..."

"Elves, really? I find humans to be far more fascinating."

He was looking directly at Zach as he spoke, his eyes studying the boy's face with deep interest. It was always fun to listen to how people loved the race of Elves, what with them being wise beyond human understanding and generally beautiful creatures, but he truely felt it was the race of humankind that had everything one could wish for.

Humans were evil, humans were good. They were pure, they were tainted...all at the same time. Plus Elves didn't need help from anyone, while humans needed that guiding hand every now and then.

"Oh..? Why's that?" Zach asked, sticking hands back in his pockets and starting to head slowly for the dorms. He shouldn't really keep Mica too long if the other had to study or whatever... but that didn't mean they couldn't talk on the way there.

To him, Elves were like the mystery Mica had talked about with Magic ... sure, he'd read books and stories ... but until he'd come here, he hadn't ever seen one in real life.

As Zach turned to move Micajah frowned a bit, wondering if he had someone offended the youth, but when he reliazed that the other was leading him back towards the direction he had originally desired to go into he smiled at the act of kindness.

"In my mind Humans can evolve, while Elves cannot. They are an old race, one that has reached its prime and remains there, while we humans are merely toddlers trotting along on unsteady feet for the first time. No one knows what we are capable of, not even ourselves."

He ran his fingers over the strap of his bag once more as he moved to follow Zachery's departure, his feet protesting silently at the sudden pressure change of standing still to walking.

"To imagine the things we are able to do, the things we have done and forgotten, it sends shivers up my spine."

Micajah did shiver a little, but it wasn't from the though of Human prowress, but because he was feeling a little hungry from skipping his meals today. His loss, really.

Zach listened with head tilted a little bit toward the other, walking slowly. After all, he found Mica to be interesting. He was so fascinated with humans, but he'd chosen Magic ... which was more connected to Elves than the sciences was ... a bit of a contradiction of sorts.

He nodded then though, murmuring, "Well I guess that makes sense ... I think, to me, I just want to learn about all the stuff that made the Elves like they are now. What did they do in the beginning, how did they get like they are now..?"

"If you knew that, where would the mystery continue to be?"

Micajah chuckled softly and brushed a strand of hair behind his ears, his eyes staring straight ahead. Zach truly was amusing, and he hoped they could meet again many times and talk this, make clumsy attempts at understanding one another like this.

"You know, I think the history of Elves is actually something far beyond our current scope of understanding. Actually, I think the history of any race other than human would be beyond our full understanding. I don't even think most people understand Human history, what with there being so many gaps in our records of events long gone by."

"Ah, but there's so much of it!" Zach pointed out cheerfully. "By the time I got finished studying, I probably wouldn't want to do anything else, and I'd be old and ready to retire or whatever anyways ..." Of course, he knew that this school wasn't really focused on the type of learning where one could just sit around and study something like that. But this was all theoretical.

"Human history is interesting too, yea ... I just wanted to do something ... different."

Micajah frowned a little, wondering if perhaps him going on and on about humans had somehow upset the boy next to him. The way he spoke at the end seemed to maybe indicate it, but he shook his head a little scatter the thoughts and remain positive.

"I think that's great. It's in human nature, or the nature of anything for that matter, to try and be different, right? Do you plan on someday sharing what you've learned with others, like as a teacher or a lecturer?"

He thought to himself that Zach had a rather pleasnt edge to his voice, one that made him like listening, so perhaps teaching or lecturing would be something he was interested in.

Zach blinked slightly at that, eyeing the other. "Hmm ... I never really thought about it, to tell you the truth," he admitted then. He had nothing at all against the other boy, or against humans in general ... it was just, to him, Elves were more interesting.

And about the other thing .... he knew enough now to almost think they were in a sort of war ... and a part of him was unable, or maybe unwilling, to look past that. To a time when said war might be won or lost ... or a time when he had done all he could ... and had to step off the battlefield ... or even worse, a time when he might lose his life doing this. He just ... didn't know. So he generally tried not to think about it.

Micajah stopped walking as he felt a slight change in the boy's tone and mannerisms, as he had been looking closely at Zach the whole time to tell that had certainly made the boy feel a little uneasy...or at least made him think about something. Micajah was pretty good at making people think, even if he didn't mean it, so without hesitation he slowly bent his head.

"I'm sorry."

Even if he felt he was completely off the mark and Zach was jsut acting...like Zach, it was always better to apologize and try and take the edge off things. He probably was way and far from where Zach's mentallity was, and considering Micajah knew hardly anything about the boy's personality his apology was probably unneeded and somethign to make the other feel even more awkward.

Still...it was in Micajah's nature to try and apologize in any sitation, as he'd been taught to do by many of his tutors and by his father. When in doubt blame yourself, they'd always say.

Zach blinked at that, though, pausing as well and turning to look at the other. "Hm..? What're you sorry for ..?" he asked, sounding more confused than anything else. Sticking thumbs into his pockets, he rocked back on heels a little, smiling.

"You don't haveta apologize for anything. Making people think about stuff like that isn't a bad thing, not really."

Micajah lifted his head a little as Zach spoke to him, and when he noticed the smile on the other boy's face he mirrored it with one of his own before standing back up fully. It had been a misunderstanding, as Micajah had prayed it would be, and he learned that Zach seemed to be more open minded than previously thought. Score, in a way.

"You'd be surprised, but thank you."

He chuckled a little to try and ease the situation that he himself had created, and with a nervous swallow he started to walk again but paused a bit as he reached Zach's side.

"I tend to overract about...many things. I'm probably going to go bald at an early age or get an ulcer at this rate."

At that, Zach laughed softly and actually reached over to ruffle the other's hair slightly. "Well then ... you just gotta learn to relax a little," he pointed out. "I'll help you ... if you want, that is."

After all ... they were sort of all supposed to be a team here. Right?

Micajah flinched slightly as he felt the other ruffle his hair, but he didn't exactally dodge out from Zach's touch. Instead he let his hair get fluffed, and he smiled softly at the kindness of this act.

Micajah was touched very little growing up, or shown very little affection, as his father was often too busy to look in on his child, and his mother too sickly to actually hold him.

Well maybe 'very little' was a bit of an exaggeration, considering his nanny would ALWAYS be hugging him or his butler always punishing him with spankings or a thwap on the hand. His tutors liked to hug him when he got things right too...so maybe he was touched a lot. ...A WHOLE lot.

That thought kinda depressed him. His childhood should be a little more tragic than it was, actually. Like...really tragic. But anyway, moving along...

"Help me learn to relax? How would that be done? Is it something that CAN be done? Are there classes, like yoga?"

Micajah popped off question after question in Zach's directions, his eyes wide with extreme interest in how this feat could and would be accomplished.

Zach blinked at that, confused for a minute ... before he realized Mica probably just didn't really understand. "Well ... maybe. But that's not reeally what I meant," he replied, smiling slightly.

"More like ... uhm. Just hanging around with other people ... talking. Laughing and joking around ... relaxing?" Ok, so it was harder to explain than he'd thought at first ...

"Oh, stuff like that? So are you relaxing by talking to me?"

Micajah was coming off as a bigger idiot than he actually was, considering he knew damn well what 'relaxing' meant and he knew how to relax. He was always relaxed when he was sewing away at something, and he was always relaxed when he sat and watched the flurry of people walk past him on a busy street.

Perhaps he was just teasing Zach a little, to see if the boy could really pull off something like an explination. Relaxing was just a common term, something that was better felt than explained, so he was a big eager to see how Zach would get his point across.

"Or are you getting stressed out trying to explain it to me?"

Zach blinked, eyeing the other for a minute - trying to figure out what the meaning behind that was. He wasn't an idiot either, but he also didn't mind a bit of teasing ...

He decided, though, to just try and explain in the end ... because he didn't want to offend Mica by implying the other was teasing when he might not be. After all, he'd only just met the other boy.

"Well. I mean. There's other things that can be relaxing too ... but I'm not really stressed out, no." Not that he was reeeally relaxed either, but still.

"Which is kinda what relaxing is ... not being upset or stressed out or ... y'know. Thinking too much."

Micajah chuckled a little and smiled softly, giving the boy next to him some mental props for trying to keep explaining something even though it was something that had to be experianced rather that told.

"I think I understand, thanks. It's relaxing talking to you, or at least I feel calm talking to you, so I'll group that in together."

It was true, he liked the conversation he was having even if it was something completely useless and stupid. He wasn't learning anything new about the boy at this time other than his drive to explain things to others and his will not to give up - or so it seemed to Micajah - so perhaps changing the conversation would probably be in order sooner than later.

"So, do you like it here at....ShinKami?"

Huge change.

Aaah, so maybe he hadn't been teasing. How weird, someone who didn't really know what relaxing was ...

Zach smiled though, happy he'd managed to explain, somewhat.

As for the other question. Hm ... did he like it here? "Yea ... I do. It's better than a lot of places I've ended up in before. And I wanted to come here. How about you?"

"I was sent here by my Father, I didn't choose to come here."

Micajah's answer was cold and flat, and he stopped walking as he spoke the line. His eyebrows narrowed a bit and he turned his head to the side, almost as if he was a bit to perplexed to look at Zach. It was then though that another look came over Micajah's face - one of an 'oops' - and he quickly popped a goofy-like smile on his features.

"Just kidding! Did I sound pretty cool or serious when I said that?"

He rubbed the back of his neck with his left hand, all the while using his right to rummage into the pocket of his pants. He was looking for something, perhaps...

Sample Number Three Cont ....

Zach stopped when Mica did, turning to stare at him. Oh ... s**t, bad question to ask ... He hadn't meant to make the other think about bad things or ... or anything.

But then the other boy's attitude totally changed again, and Zach blinked, mouth dropping open. So that was all ... fake? It hadn't sounded like it to him ... nervously, Zach shut his mouth and swallowed, trying to decide how to react. If he confronted Mica, he might get the truth, but then again he might not ... and they had just met, after all.

"Uhm. I dunno if 'cool' is the word I would use ... but I really did almost believe you for a minute," he said finally, forcing a smile to his face ... lying, and hoping Mica didn't see through him so easily.

"Not quite cool? Hehe, what word would you use then?"

Micajah laughed a bit and raised his eyebrows as he seemed to have finally found what he was digging in hsi pockets for, and with a single motion he pulled out a rather crude yet still beautiful butterfly puppet. He slipped it onto the tip of his middle finger and wiggled it a bit before turning his gaze away from the puppet and back towards Zach's face.

His cheeks turned slightly red when he relaized how childish it was to have a FINGER PUPPET of all things out on his hand all of a sudden, and he grasped at straws to try and explain the sudden action. It seemed extremely out of whatever character he was trying to build with the other boy at the moment, and when he stumbled across a resonable answer he spit it out without hesitation.

"Oh...don't...mind the puppet. Whenever I tend to feel a bit nervous or uneasy or jsut in general I pull it out and wear it. I sort of think of it as a treasured companion."

He rubbed the side of his cheek with his index finger and blushed a bit more as he felt the butterfly poke his face as well, and he almost felt like closing his eyes so he could not watch Zach's expressions...even though he really wanted to.

Zach blinked again, eyeing the little finger puppet. Secretly, he thought it was actually ... kind of cute? Maybe? But no way was he about to say that out loud. "Well ... I only meant, it wouldn't really be cool if that had happened ... it would be kinda sad, I think," he murmured, smiling slightly.

"Sad? I wonder sometimes."

Micajah rested the tip of his butterfly puppet against his lips as he thought about what Zach had just said, and deep down he did wonder a bit if he should be sad. He wasn't, at least not at the moment, so he shook the thoughts away and turned to look at his companion.

"I think of all the places I could have gone to, here is certainly one of the better choices. At least here I'm among people my own age and can actually attend classes. Speaking of which...I'm probably going to fail. I'm not very good at keeping my work ethic up in things that don't interest me."

Or things I won't find useful in my future, he mused to himself.

"How about you? You look like the type that gets his work done quickly and has his projects done days before they're due."

"Ha ... not really," Zach replied at that, shaking his head with a rueful sort of smile. "I'm a huge procrastinator, actually ... which is kinda bad for this place, since there's no set schedule or anything." He ducked his head a bit, thinking of times he just hadn't wanted to go to class at all. He'd kind of made a schedule for himself, so he would go ... but he wasn't very good at following it.

"Eh, so in your case looks can be deceiving."

Micajah grinned and wiggled his finger a bit as his spoke, his words sort of choppy like he was timing each syllable with the passing of the butterfly puppet in front of his face.

"But sometimes I think having a free schedule makes things so much easier for everyone, procrastiners included. If you're like me and forget when something is do and then panic, finishing it right away...only to find out it's due in two months, it's perfect."

boy howdy, did that happen ever so often in his case. It wasn't that Micasjah actually had a bad memory or was lazy, he usually just ended up having to do other...things...and would never find time for his school work. That was more of the reason why he also had tutors and didn't attend a normal school.

Zach blinked slightly at that and then suddenly laughed. "Yea ... yea, that sort of works, if you put it that way," he replied after a minute. "So you end up procrastinating too, huh?" he asked, glancing over at the other. If he had been asked to guess ... he wouldn't have thought that about someone like Mica.

But, as the other had just pointed out, appearances could be deceiving.

Micajah smiled and shrugged his shoulders, feeling a bit tense as the subject of the conversation once again swayed in his direction. What to say, what to say?

"Usually, since most of the time I have other things I need to do. Violin lessons, languages, sport activities. So it's more of a putting it off in favor of something else...or forgetting in general."

His mind tried to think of things normal kids did in an effort to find a way to toss it back. He did do lots of normal kid things though, so it wasn't that hard to do.

"The most common thing is though, that I find a book I like and end up focusing on it until I'm done reading. In that time I end up neglecting everything else, you know?"

This was true.

"Or sometimes when I get new sheet music for my violin I end up staying awake for hours or days on end in an attempt to perfect it. You've got to do something like that too, right? You said you're fascinated with Elves, so I would think when you get something new on them time seems to stop?"

Zach listened to the other with head tilted slightly to one side and then smiled and nodded. "Yea ... I totally get the book thing, I do that too sometimes." He didn't play any kind of musical instrument himself, but he liked to just sit around and listen to music now and then.

And elves... oh yea, he liked learning new stuff about elves for sure. "I kinda wish I could y'know ... corner one of the elves here in a room for a few hours and ask all the questions chasing each other around in my head." He broke off, and laughed. "But that'd be kinda weird... and rude, I think."

"I don't know, that actually sounds like such a fun idea. We'd have to try it together sometime - I'll hold 'em down and you ask away."

Micajah let off a wide grin as his mind played out a rather dumb scene of finding and actually tackling an elf to the ground, his mouth running a million miles an hour as he popped off question after question. Sure he's dad would be furious that he went after another person, but part of him felt like he'd get to act like a normal kid after all that.

Sometimes getting yelled at for whatever you'd been doing was the only way to let you know your real age, at least...that's what Micajah felt. At least if you were also being yelled at...it meant someone was noticing you.

"Let's make a plan of that sometime, you think?"

Zach blinked at the other for a minute and then laughed, nodding. As crazy as it sounded ... doing something like that might actually be fun. Of course, not that they'd really tackle and hold down an elf. Probably they wouldn't even be able to ... but still.

"Sure, why not ... we just have to find ourselves an elf..."

"I don't think that task should be too hard. This school has more of then in it than you'd like to think."

It was true, or at least he was pretty good at finding elves from amongst the humans. Part of him thought it was due to his like of wacthing people and memorizing human mannerisms, perfecting his views so that anything outside fo the norm could be considered 'different'. Another part of him wondered if it was because he'd been informed beforehand.

He liked the first option better, as it was a bit more true.

"But then you know, would it be worth getting into that much trouble? I wouldn't mind doing it if it helped you out in what you want for the future."

"Well.." Zach said slowly. "Maybe we shouldn't actually kidnap one..." And he smiled at the other in a kind of goofy manner. "But if you want, we could just track one of 'em down and ask if they'll answer some questions?"

That seemed like a better idea ... he didn't really want to get into too much trouble here - since he didn't want to get sent home or anything. Ugh...

"I do agree we should just find and ask someone, someone preferably close to our own age. I think someone young like us is more willing to help someone at least seemingly close to their age, while older people would look at us and our questions like a nuisance."

Micajah nodded a little inwardly about being treated downwards because of both age and race when in the presence of elves, but he didn't want to let that get to Zach through how he was conveying himself so he simply smiled outwardly.

"That being said, I don't know of any elves close to our age here. At least, I haven't met any of them. I'm pretty sure I have a rough of idea of who is an elf and who isn't, but I don't want to rush head first into things and get myself or you into trouble, you know?"

He let off a light-hearted chuckle at his way of calling Zach a 'friend' by saying he didn't want to get him into trouble, and he turned his head to the side to glance about as they continued to walk. And his face blanched.

"Oh, hey...where are we now? This area looks a bit more familiar than it did a few moments ago."

Zach nodded in agreement at maybe finding someone their own age to ask. "Hm... well, I don't know any elves, but my friend Jaden seems to know a lot about them in general." More than he did, anyway.

"He can even read a little of their language... maybe if we got him to help, one of the teachers or something wouldn't mind a few questions," he suggested with a smile.

And the glanced up. "Oh! Yea, we're close to the dorms now... think you can get back from here? I have some studying I should probably do.." he said then, looking faintly embarrassed.

"Jaden, huh? That sounds like a good idea to ask him, and I think the more the merrier when it comes to a chance to learn about something. Plus maybe we could outnumber an elf and run him down easier."

His last statement was made in pure jest, and he chuckled a bit even as he said it. Any way they could meet an Elf and help Zach's dream of learning more about them seemed fine to Micajah, and he made a note to look up more information when he returned to his room and had a chance. Perhaps even his father would be able to help.

His thoughts were jarred from that train when Zach mentioned the location, and sure enough even Micajah was able to tell where they were when he gave another sweep of his head. His companion had indeed kept his word by showing him the way back without any other motives, and that made Micajah both grateful and happy.

"I should be able to make it back from here without any problems. Thank you Zach, so much, for all your help and your company. I hope your studying goes well...and I hope we can meet again sometime in the future."

Micajah smiled at the boy and gave a quick bob of his head before turning and making his way towards the dorms, his hands pushed into his pockets and his head curved downward in thought. He didn't even give a second glance back towards Zach to send him another farewell, as his mind was already full, but he noted to himself that he would find a way to meet Zach again.

If not then, some day soon.

Sample Number Four
(( SoA RP - Quoting this one. The other was archived so, impossible to quote from directly XD ))

Manda
Finally, finally! It was their first day out of the den and Jani was incredibly excited about the prospect. He had already talked to all the rocks and things inside so much that he thought they were all probably bored of him. And as for his siblings... most of them thought he was crazy and didn't talk to him much at all. But he didn't mind, he had other friends!

Plus, now he could make more friends, out in the wide world. He bounced on his paws and then ran out into the light, grinning happily. "Hello world!" he called out with a cheerful tone to his voice.

Lithia_Brandon
Doto was not as enthusiastic about the bright day out as his siblings seemed to be. Of course, he was already aware that he was very different to most of them. He did not feel the need to impress his father or earn the attention of his doting mother. He certainly did not talk to rocks, and he had no real need to play.

He left the cave slowly, trotting at his own pace as he moved with his siblings, watching as his green brother bounced up and down in a ridiculous show of excitement. Rolling his eyes, Doto moved passed Jani as he greeted the world, making sure to deliver a good shoulder check as he passed.

Leaping fairly gracefully, considering his age, onto a nearby rock, the dark cub sat down and turned his eyes over his family, watching them silently and without any hint of interest.

Cajanic
“Doto,” growled Jeraha with the same amount of threatening warning in his voice he would use against a stranger, “be nice to your strange brother.” There. That would learn him. Now that his role as father had been fulfilled for the day, Jeraha kept himself to silence, moving slowly over the grounds towards the pool of water that sat several feet from the den. Nothing too out of the way, but it at least gave the little ones a chance to stretch their legs.

He wasn’t sure if he was allowed to take a nap or not. Did being a father mean staring at the damn cubs ALL the time?

Not that they were unattractive creatures. He was rather proud that half his genes made up such fine looking creatures; he just wasn’t sure about the father thing in general. It seemed so strange to suddenly be a father when not so long ago he had spent his life loathing his and wishing never to have cubs. Now his thoughts were constantly swirling around what he would do if he ended up being no better than his old lion. What if he hurt them?

Sitting down near the water, he looked down at his children, expression lacking. “Go have fun,” he all but ordered them.

Kavu couldn’t be more excited. Spending time with his dear old dad was just about the best thing he could think of to happen in a day. In a year, even. He was going to make sure his dad saw just how cool he was. How much like him he was. It was going to be perfect.

He would impress Jeraha no matter what.

The young cub stayed near his father as they walked, sitting beside him once the much larger animal came to a stop. He was close enough to feel his father’s fur against his leg, glad to find the male sitting put rather than shifting away from him for a change. But now he didn’t know what to do. Play with his siblings? Try to look cool?

As much as he wanted to play, he worried what his father would think of him for it. Then again, Jeraha had told them to do just that. He couldn’t rightly go against the male. So he moved away, reluctantly, and went over to Jani.

Manda
Jani didn't at all protest at the shoulder-check, though, just moved with it so he wasn't knocked over. He'd gotten used to Doto being rough and then ignoring him already. So, it wasn't interesting because it wasn't new.

He was out here to see and meet new things! Head swiveling toward his father, he grinned when Jeraha told them to play and started to bound off on his own. Then he paused for just a moment and glanced back to see Kavu heading toward him.

"You want to play too?" he asked, obviously delighted.

Lithia_Brandon
Doto scowled at his dad, huffing indignantly at the order. There was no reason to be nice to his strange brother. Or anyone else, for that matter. Being nice was an effort, a falsity, and who should he learn to be something he was not? There was no reward in faking, in lying, and he certainly was not going to allow himself to grow up false. If his decisions made him a lion that was not 'nice', then he did not want to be nice. It was as simple as that.

Still, he was a bit disgruntled as one of his siblings, the white brother named Kavu, move to join Jani in whatever stupid games his crazy imagination might concoct for them. It did not sit well with him that the weird cub was the one the others wanted to play with, while he, the one striving to be himself and, in his mind, was far more normal than all the others, was the one that had to sit alone.

It might have troubled, if he wasn't so annoyed by them when they did ask to play with him.

Tail swatting the ground in his youthful conflicted state, he stared pensively at the two. He was unwilling to venture closer, his red eyes absorbing their slightest movements as he decided he would learn as much about them in their new setting as he had when they were in the cave. It never hurt, knowing every aspect of someone: friend, foe, or family.

There was no telling when certain information, like fears or weaknesses, would come in handy.

Cajanic
Jeraha, noticing his son’s grin, quirked an eyebrow, averting his eyes from the boy promptly and placing them instead on his much less agreeable, and indeed no less annoying, son Doto. The boy was too much like him; dark, brooding, sarcastic- if he wasn’t careful he would end up being Jeraha 2.0.

Which, frankly, wouldn’t be as totally awesome as it sounded.

His eyes then slipped over to Kavu, who seemed to be struggling with what he wanted to do. Jeraha knew the boy longed to win his affection, but as a grumpy adult with little exposure to children, he was unwilling to give the poor little thing what he most wanted- a show of pride. Maybe one day Kavu would do something worthy of praise, but Jeraha wasn’t just going to hand it over to the boy. No, it had to be earned. If the kid truly wanted his love, then he would have no issue with trying to obtain it by any means necessary.

Moving his attention back to who would clearly be the troubled child of the family, Jeraha gave a clearing of his throat for attention. “What’s the matter, Doto?” he asked the boy with a firm, almost lecturing tone, “does playing with your brothers not interest you?”

Kavu, light in spirit since he had convinced himself that play was what his father wanted to see, offered his somewhat peculiar brother a smile. Yes, he too thought Jani was a little on the special, don’t eat the dirt side, but he wasn’t going to hold it against the little guy. Maybe he was just weird because the others didn’t play with him enough.

Maybe a game would make him stop talking to plants and rocks.

“Sure!” replied the boy brightly, tail flailing from side to side as though he held no control over it, “what do you want to play?” He then peered back at Jeraha, who was at that moment speaking to Doto. Damnit, what did that mean cub have that Kavu didn’t? His father should be watching the game they were going to play so he could see how athletic Kavu was.

“Play with us Doto!” he called, if only to steal the boy away from his father.

Manda
Jani could care less if Doto was in a bad mood, or what Kavu's reasons might be for suddenly wanting to play. He was just focused on the moment, the now and right now, he had someone to play with and that was good!

"Hmm...." he mused for a minute or two, thinking Kavu's question over carefully. There were games they'd played back in the cave of course, but most of them had to be played in limited space, or even used features of the cave as elements of the game.

Out here... it was a whole different story!

"Hide and seek?" he suggested finally, ears perking up. They'd played that before, but there weren't many places to hide inside, so it was easy. Out here, it'd be a LOT harder!

Bouncing up and down, he followed Kavu's gaze toward their father and then Doto and called out, "Yea come play!" right after his brother. More players always made this game more fun!

Lithia_Brandon
Doto watched Jeraha impassively as he turned his attention toward the brooding cub. He was not seeking attention from his father, and was not particularly glad to have it unbidden. Rolling his shoulders, he shrugged at the questions. He flattened himself out on the rock, rolling to his side indifferently.

"No," he said in response to his dad, though he did not bother speaking any louder than he was used to. He didn't care if his father heard him or not, "it really doesn't interest me."

It was only moments before Kavu was harping at him, the sharp, grating order to join them in play sending a shudder down Doto's spine. Turning his head slowly toward his brother, he eyed the white cub keenly. Sighing through his teeth, he sneered and returned his chin to his paws, "why?"

Of course, his response went unheeded as Jani joined in. It seemed his entire family was bent on annoying him. Growling, he pushed himself to his paws, squinting at them both. "Fine, I'll play. Whatever. Just don't complain at me if you don't like how I play. You asked."

He pounced from the rock, padding over to them with an expression on his face that displayed his intention to not have an ounce of fun in their company. Not conventionally, anyway.

"What are we playing?"

Cajanic
“You are a strange cub,” Jeraha commented absently, watching the young male with an arched eyebrow. As arched as a lion’s was going to get, anyway. He shook his head, dismissing his concerns of the creature. So what if he was a little odd right now? The boy had only been born a short time ago. Perhaps a little been of life experience would train him towards more normal routines. It was a good sign, at least, to see him moving off to play with his brothers.

Even if he didn’t seem all that interested in doing it.

Sighing, the male closed his eyes, getting comfortable against the ground now that he didn’t have to worry about any children hovering under him. Kavu had an annoying habit of pushing himself right between his legs without him even noticing it until he was about to smush the poor thing. Another odd cub, though for an entirely different reason.

How any cub could dote on a father so much was beyond him. Had he been so clingy with his father?

Between the blows to his back and watching his mother kill herself, he couldn’t quite recall a time where he really wanted to be around his father. Maybe it was something to let Kavu partake in, seeing as he never got to experience it. Pushing him away might make Jeraha more like his old man that he ever wanted to be.

Grunting to himself, he drifted off to sleep.

“Hide and seek!” echoed Kavu in delight, “oh! That will be so much fun! Let’s play it, come on!” He laughed, looking over at Doto, “We’re going to play hide and seek! Come play with us, it’s not so much fun with only the two of us!”

He thought for a moment about asking his father to join them in the game, but the large male was never one for such things. Besides, he was already sleeping. Waking him up would make him disgruntled, and Kavu didn’t want to do anything that might make him upset or angry. Chuckling lightly, he disregarded the notion completely, looking once more to his chatting-with-trees brother.

“Who will be it?” he asked casually, thinking it would be between the two of them to decide.. Doto, like Jeraha, didn’t often join in on the games. Kavu didn’t think he liked to play, or maybe he just didn’t like his siblings. Either way, he never jumped to his feet to join in.

Kavu wondered if, should Doto be it, the boy would actually come looking for them.

Manda
Jani bounced up and down excitedly, even more-so when Doto decided to come and play. It really wasn't often that he would play, and Jani kept hoping he would learn to have a little more fun. After all, life was boring without play, right?!

Hmm.... who would be it, though, that was a good question. He knew better than to suggest that rock over there, or the tree on the other side of the clearing. They might want to play too, but for one thing, they couldn't move. Well, maybe the rock could, but he didn't know for sure. And for another, his siblings wouldn't agree, anyway.

So he thought for a minute, then scooped up three rocks of vaguely different colors. "How about we let these guys decide!" he suggested enthusiastically. Even if the rocks couldn't play, they could help out!

Lithia_Brandon
Doto watched his brothers with irritation in his eyes, swimming amidst the anger and disinterest. He heard his father's comment, but did not heed it in any way, content to pretend his father never spoke to or about him at all. He was not like Kavu, after all. Though, he did approve of drawing his father's eyes effortlessly when Kavu was trying so desperately for some small recognition.

Hide and seek was not a bad idea. If he was chosen as it, he would certainly not go looking for them. He would pretend to count, and let them run their ways, then go sit down on his rock again, to sun or nap or something of that nature. As boring as it might be, it was still much better than actually going and finding them. All that would accomplish was another game, another round, and more vexation.

Tilting his head, he stared at Jani. For once, he had no idea how to react. He knew what had just happened was ridiculous, idiotic, and annoying, and yet he was struck silent by the moment. Three rocks would help them decide who would be the seeker. That made absolutely no sense.

"Jani," Doto said evenly, his face impassive, "what is wrong with you?"

Cajanic
Kavu blinked, looking at Jani. Even he couldn’t deny that it was really weird for him to be talking to rocks. Well, talking to them was alright. He had always assumed that it was just some way for him to pass the time. But for him to think that the rocks would be able to talk back… that was just weird.

Maybe he had been dropped on his head when he was just born.

“I don’t think we should ask the rocks about it,” replied the boy after a long pause. He had taken a moment to look back at Jeraha to see if the male had been watching. Sleeping still, Jeraha had no idea what was going on. Relieved, the boy looked back at Jani. Now he didn’t need to be mean, at least.

“Let’s just play between us brothers, okay?”

Frowning, he looked over at Doto. There wasn’t anything he could say to make the boy be a bit nicer. Because, well, he was wondering the very same thing. What was wrong with the cub that made him thing it was perfectly normal to talk to rocks and plants and have them talk back? Maybe he was sick or insane or something. They had a right to know about it.

Saying nothing, his eyes returned to Jani, the cub waiting for an answer. Anything that might shed some light on the situation.

Manda
Jani blinked and eyed the two of them, pawing at the rocks for a minute or two. "I didn't mean ask them, you guys! That'd be dumb, cause you can't hear 'em," he pointed out with a smile. Obviously, that wouldn't work.

"I meeean, let's each take a rock and see who can bat it the farthest! If the rock likes you, it'll go farther. So we'll know who they pick! It's easy!"

It made perfect sense to him, at least.

Lithia_Brandon
"I'm not throwing a rock to see if it likes me," Doto said, with no pretense of being nice. His tone reflected how stupid he found the idea, and how stupid he thought the cub who came up with it was, "and you can't hear them, either. You just think you can, and pretend you can, so you can make up for some weird issue you were born with."

He sneered and batted his tail against the earth, looking from Jani to Kavu and back again. Twitching his nose, he shook his head impatiently. "We could just wrestle to see who's it. The loser is."

Doto had no intention of playing fair if they wrestled, because he had no intention of being it. Of course, he was a large cub, taking after his father in that respect, and was certainly a sizable opponent for his siblings. He was confident he could hold his own, though he had no real practice in the sport.

He had imagined attacking each of the so many times, however, it was almost as if he had more experience than was fathomable.

Cajanic
“OH!” Laughed Kavu lightly, blushing at his own assumption. He had been silly to think his brother was such a loon. Of course the male only want to toss them! “Well that could work,” he offered lightly in the place of an apology, “though, rocks can’t like you either. They don’t talk or feel…”

Well, at least his brother a LITTLE less creepy.

Looking at his other brother, Kavu rolled his eyes. The male was probably against the whole idea of a game in general. Why was he even there if he didn’t really want to play? Kavu had hoped he would at least try to be nice since their father was so close by. “We could wrestle too… it might be simpler. Kavu was a smaller cub in the group, though in all reality he was of average size. Jethro putting his genes in the mix had simply created a wide range of sizes with the cubs.

“Why don’t we do that? Or… I could just be it,” he offered after a short pause to weigh the options, that way we won’t have to worry about anyone being upset if they lose either contest, right?”

He didn’t want to wrestle Doto.

Manda
Jani was a little disappointed at having his rock idea shot down by Doto, but then... he'd expected that. It wasn't any different from how his brother usually acted. So, really, he couldn't get too upset. In fact, he might have been worried if Doto agreed easily!

But then when even Kavu suggested wrestling, his ears drooped. He didn't like wrestling much, especially with Doto...

"Uhm! You can be it if you want to, Kavu!" he said quickly, seizing on the easiest option. Then, leaning down, he pawed at the rocks. "Sorry," he whispered. "Maybe next time, ok?"

Lithia_Brandon
Doto had known his personality and build would work in his favor for the proposed wrestling match, but he had not thought his siblings would duck out of it entirely. It was a small triumph that made him smirk, his chest tightening in selfish pride as his ego basked in the moment.

"Fine, Kavu's it."

Doto spoke as if he was the final word on the matter, his eyes flashing as he looked at each of his brother's impatiently. He really didn't care who did the searching or the hiding: he wasn't going to be playing by the rules, anyway. He rolled his eyes as he spied Jani whispering something to the rocks, letting out a small, frustrated growl as he swatted his tail impatiently.

"So go cover your eyes and count, Kavu. We'll hide, won't we Jani?" he grinned devilishly, a half formed idea for his own brand of the game coming into his mind. They had not explored outside their cave very much, and he imagined neither of his brothers would take too kindly to getting lost.

He could work with that easily.

Cajanic
“Okay!” Kavu hooted in delight, glad to have things resolved. Even though he kind of wanted to hide, he felt seeking could be just as much fun. Maybe if he found them quickly enough his father would be impressed with his tracking skills and say something about them. Gods, that would be fantastic. Feeling good, he turned away from his brothers, putting his paws over his face as he crouched against the ground.

“Keep the hiding spots in this area!” he advised more than directed, “if we go too far, daddy probably won’t be very happy with us! Alright, I’m going to start counting now!”

This was exciting. He was getting to play a game with his brothers. Too bad his father was fast asleep and thus not watching any of it, but Kavu was just so excited he hadn’t even noticed that small detail. Confident the male would wake up and see him catching his brothers easily, he started the count, ears ready to try and pick up on which directions the other boys ran off in.

Not that they would really be of any use to him.

“One… two… three…” he hummed in beat, tail hitting the ground between each count. His chest was alive, butterflies swirling about relentlessly now.

Manda
Jani bounced up and down at that. "Ok, yea, let's go hide!" he said, glad that Doto seemed to want to play now. Even if he had a kind of weird look on his face. That didn't matter, Jani was just happy they were playing~

When Kavu closed his eyes and started counting, he started off in a random direction, then walked up to a tree. "Do you have a good idea where to hide?" he whispered - loudly.

Lithia_Brandon
Doto watched as his brother began to count against the tree, his attention being drawn as Jani whispered none-too-secretively to a nearby tree. Rolling his eyes, he bounded over to his strange, smaller brother and tilted his head down at the green cub.

"If the tree doesn't have a good idea," he said, trying not to sound too sarcastic, "I've got a place where we can hide. But the game works better if you close your eyes, that way you won't see where I hide, and we can be fair. But I can guide you to it, I promise."

He spoke reasonably enough, not giving away his true intentions of abandoning his brother away from the den. It would be interesting to see if his friends, the rocks and trees, would be able to guide him home. Doto doubted it incredibly, knowing full well that trees and rocks did not talk to someone without some special, and non-existent, power of perception.

Looking back, he listened to how far Kavu had counted. They still had some time.

Cajanic
Kavu couldn’t remember how long he was supposed to be counting to. He could hear conversation not far away. Jani had asked a question, maybe to Doto and maybe to a tree or something else. But after the first question, the conversation seemed to get too low for him to hear. He couldn’t open his eyes, though, as he knew that would be cheating.

So the counting continued. “Four… five…” he hummed on and on, saying each number slowly to give the others as much time as possible. If they were talking to one another, maybe they weren’t able to find good hiding spots. That meant he should give them some more time to look.

It was the right thing to do.

“six… seven…. Eight…” maybe he was supposed to stop at ten. That was it! Ten and then he started to look for them. Were they still talking to each other? Damnit, it wouldn’t be much of a game if they didn’t hide away. “Nine….” He said lowly, holding the pause even longer now.

Manda
Jani's eyes widened at that, and he stared at the other for a minute or two before bouncing up and down again. "Ok!" he replied, his own tone only slightly softer. He wasn't really very good at being secretive. So it was likely that Doto would be able to lead him around by the nose very nicely.

Glancing back toward Kavu, he crouched down and wiggled just a bit, then moved so his nose was touching his brother's flank. And he closed his eyes. "Go ahead... 'm not looking~"

Lithia_Brandon
Doto grinned. He was very satisfied that the cub came along so willingly. He might have felt bad, taking advantage of their blood relationship and the other lion's trusting nature. Might have, if it wasn't exactly what he wanted to do.

Leading the other carefully, but swiftly, he drew him away from the play area, keeping his eyes not only on Jani, to make sure he didn't open his own, but on Kavu and Jeraha. He didn't want his father to wake up and spot them running off, and he did not need Kavu finishing his count too soon.

Once he was out of ear and eye shot of the area they had been told to stay in, he, all the while telling Jani that they were close to the spot and that he needed to keep his eyes shut, wandered through the tall grasses and sparse trees. Keeping track of his own movements in his head, he knew it would be difficult to get home even though he knew the way: everything looked exactly like everything else.

He could only imagine, with a grin, how hard it would be for Jani.

"I've got to leave you here now, so I can hide. Just be really really quiet, and then he won't find you! I'll be just over here." He said, already bounding away and vanishing into the grass.

Cajanic
“Nine and a half…” he muttered, lingering quite some time between that and the next number. He couldn’t hear any shuffling around him, so he assumed they had both found a place to settle by this time. They must have! He had given them more time than anyone could have needed to find a rock to hide behind. “Ten!” he called out as loudly as possible, opening his eyes and looking around.

Now he needed to find them! The game was afoot.

Sniffing the air, he found he really didn’t know the first thing about distinguishing scents from one another just yet. Frowning, he looked around, scanning hard to see if he could spot one of the others nearby. They couldn’t have gone far- that was the rule. So he started to look around, peering around trees and under bushes.

No one was around. Like they had managed to vanish in thin air. Frowning, he sat down, already wondering if this had been as good an idea as he had first thought. His eyes moved to Jeraha. Had he… seen it? No. The male was still sleeping. "Guys?" he yelped, "where did you guys go?!"

Manda
'Jani nodded at that and opened his eyes finally - looking around as Doto vanished. Oooh... where was he? He didn't even recognize it, so it had to be a great hiding place! "Thank you!" he whispered loudly and then hunkered down to hide.

So trusting was he that he didn't even suspect his brother might have played some kind of trick on him...

Lithia_Brandon
Doto grinned as he trotted back to the den, his tail high behind him as he hummed to himself. He had no intention of finding his own hiding spot, instead returning to the rock he had been sitting on when the game was first being discussed.

He heard Kavu reach ten and stifled. Having slipped around his brother on the way home, he was in the perfect spot to watch as Kavu looked around, completely at a loss. Ducking behind the rock when his brother's eyes turned to Jeraha, he peeked out only once he felt Kavu had moved on.

Grinning, sitting triumphantly, he watched the search begin. He would go down and offer his help once some time passed, if only to get his other brother lost as well. Or he would simply watch and let Kavu take care of that on his own.

This was a good game.

Cajanic
Looking around, Kavu frowned. Maybe some higher ground would help him see better? Or higher tree, rather. Rushing forward, still content enough to be enjoying the game without thought of foul play, he quickly inched his way up the bark, ascending the trunk into the thick branches above. Peering through the leave, he gave the place a second scan.

Again he could find no one around him.

“I found you Jani!” he called, hoping that hearing him yell it might draw him from his spot. Cheating? Yes. But he wanted to know what great hiding spots the others had found that kept them completely concealed from him! No answer struck his ears and he sighed, awkwardly scampering back down the tree before leaping down the rest of the way. He would have to search conventionally. A few minutes of that reminded him that he didn’t want to look around conventionally. He wanted his chance to hide.

Whimpering, feeling too much time had passed, he plonked himself down on the floor. “Okay!” he called as loudly as possible, “I give up! I can’t find anyone! You guys can come out now!”

Manda
As it turned out, Doto had led him so far away that his brother's voice only reached him distantly. And with the way the wind was blowing and a few things in the way ... Jani really couldn't tell exactly what direction Kavu was shouting from.

But he knew the other couldn't have found him, so he whispered, "He's lying, shhh," to the grass and stayed crouched down, eyes bright.

This really was perfect! He would have to thank Doto again later... he was hiding so good that no one would be able to find him!

Lithia_Brandon
Doto frowned. He hadn't anticipated this part of the plan. Of course it was destined to be the boring bit, having to wait for the real game to begin, but it was... really boring. He wanted to skip to the part where they finally made it home, distraught or angry or some combination of both. He grinned.

If Jeraha yelled at him, he would just use it as a bragging tool. Even negative attention was attention, after all, and it would still be more than Kavu got. He'd let his brother know that, too.

Sighing, he settled down on his rock and listened for his brothers, closing his eyes and imagining what was happening now.

Cajanic
Kavu was unhappy. No one had fallen for his little plan. And he had thought it was such a clever one, too! Darn those other cubs… they were on to him. If they were even still playing. Maybe they had both gone off and left him alone? Or maybe something else had happened that had left them both hurt and in need of help!

He jumped to his feet, instantly starting to panic. “Okay!” he called, “I give up! I lose the game! You guys can come out now!”

Grunting, Jeraha opened his eyes, looking over at his impossibly loud son. What was the boy shouting about? Normally Kavu was very mindful of what his father wanted. To wake him up now, when he had obviously been wanting sleep, was unacceptable. He was supposed to be the good son.

Watching, he said nothing, noting that two of his boys were suspiciously missing. He could probably find them easily enough.

But he wanted to find out what was going on first.

Manda
By that point, Jani had managed to get himself completely involved in a "conversation" with a nice and friendly group of rocks nearby - having gotten up and padded even farther away so he could hear them better.

One ear flicked back at Kavu's shouting, but ... it was rude to leave in the middle of talking to someone! He knew that much.

So he ignored the yelling for the moment, grinning as he detailed the events of the last few days to his new friends.

Lithia_Brandon
Doto frowned. His game was not going as he had planned. He wanted them to be crying and sad, lost for hours. Impatient, on top of being annoyed, he flicked his tail and came down from his perch on the rock. Maybe he would go see what they were doing. Of course, that ran the risk of one of them following him back.

Sighing, he stopped when he heard his father moving. Turning, he narrowed his eyes at the large male lion, looking every bit as suspicious as he warranted. Flicking his tail again, he sniffed at the ground leisurely and looked around, feigning boredom. Red eyes moving back to his dad, he nodded a hello, then made off down from the den.

"Jerk," he mumbled to himself as he padded away.

Cajanic
It didn’t take long, Jeraha found, for Kavu to come crying to him for help. The moment he had seen that his father was awake he was there to ask for assistance. Silly boy. How was he ever going to be ready for the world when he couldn’t do anything for himself?

His son was ranting on and on about something, but the child was talking so damn fast that for the life of him Jeraha could not understand anything he was being told. Something about a game and him having lost the others.

“Alright, shh,” he growled, stretching his front paws, “I’ll find them. Just try not to panic, will you? I’ll find the others. Just go back to the den and try not to get into any further trouble.” He didn’t care that he had obviously made his son upset, moving away to sniff out the others.

Wasn’t long before he found Doto.

“I suppose you had something to do with this?” he asked, watching the boy turn to leave. Moving, he placed a paw on the other’s small tail, pinning it against the ground and holding the child in place. “Where’s your brother?” he demanded.

Manda
Eventually, Jani finished his conversation with the rocks and looked up - having noticed that the yelling had stopped now. Which meant... since he couldn't hear them anymore... that he had no idea where the rest of the family was.

Uh oh.

The little lion bit his lip slightly and fought back a sniffle. It wasn't the end of the world! He could find his way back, it would be fine!

Oh! Why hadn't he thought of that already? He could ask the grass! Surely it would remember the way he had come just a few minutes ago, even though he hadn't seen...

"Hey, psst..." he whispered to the long, waving stalks - swaying back and forth a little just like they did. "Do you remember how I got here...?"

Lithia_Brandon
Doto frowned up at his father, shaking his head and shrugging his big shoulders. He hated that his tail was often used against him, and that his small size, comparatively, prevented him from doing anything about it. Looking up at his dad, he tilted his head and let his red eyes look as innocent as they could. Which, as it turned out, wasn't very innocent at all.

"Something to do with what?" he said, feigning confusion. He pretended he hadn't noticed Kavu's state. He then, of course, saw his brother heading back to the den and looking so sad, and looked surprised and concerned. "What's going on?"

He was glad this was going so well, but he knew Jeraha was going to mess everything up. He sighed, wondering how long it would take for him to find their lost brother, and if Jani, as weird as he was, would even notice the lapse of time. Doto shrugged his shoulders again.

"I don't know where he is."

Cajanic
Jeraha didn’t need the boy to tell him where Jani was, as he was perfectly capable of finding him on his own. He had just wanted to provide the trouble making child a good chance to explain himself. But clearly he had been wasting his time. Doto was not the kind of boy who cared about getting in trouble. Jeraha had always thought the rebellious faze came later in life, but with this one he had come out of his mother hating the world.

Or so it seemed.

Taking his paw from the boy’s tail, he instead put in on his face, pushing it towards the ground for a moment while he looked around for his lost son. The strange boy was probably talking to grass somewhere nearby. Distance was so much greater in the mind of a child, even one like Doto.

“I hope you remember how your lunch tasted,” he told the boy casually as he scanned the area, “because you’re not getting dinner. Now get back to the den.” He stood, freeing the cub and turning to go retrieve the lost one. Jani’s scent wasn’t lost to the wind, giving him a clear trail right to the boy.

Before long, he was standing over the strange child, disapproving frown on his features. “Are you ready to come home?” he asked the boy.

Manda
Jani had been leaning down very close to the grass, trying to make out its whispering, when a shadow suddenly fell over him.

He squeaked slightly and stumbled backwards before realizing what and who it was.

"Oh, dad!" he exclaimed, bounding up to quickly rub against the larger male's forelegs.

"Yea! I uhm. I was trying to figure out how to get back, but the grass is really hard to understand sometimes!" he explained quickly, hoping that he wasn't in trouble for wandering off. Nevermind that Doto had brought him out here.

Lithia_Brandon
Being squished was not one of the Doto's favorite activities, but there was very little he could do to prevent or free himself from his father's large paws. He wiggled but only for a short moment, giving up once he realized it was useless and waiting for his dad to let him back up.

Doto scowled at his father as he was sent to the den without supper, turning sharply and wandering away with his fur bristled. He was hungry, more so now that he was aware that he would not be getting any food. But it was worth it, he felt.

After all, he had some fun.

Bored now, not interested in witnessing the return of his sibling, he moved into the den and found his little corner, a secluded spot that he could keep to himself. Curling up and plopping himself down, he grinned into his paws and shut his eyes.

Cajanic
Jeraha looked down at the boy, expression neutral while the tiny creature cuddled against his legs. It was still going to take some getting used to- this whole “being a father” thing he had going on. He frowned thoughtfully, keeping his eyes on the boy just in case something else happened and he got lost again.

It was possible. Anything was possible with this one.

Shaking his head at the comment about the talking grass, Jeraha lowered his head, nudging the boy in the right direction back to the den. “Come along,” he said flatly, “Doto played a joke on you to get you lost. Now he’s not getting dinner. So don’t share with him, alright?” He started to move, leading the cub back home to their den. Then he would slip out to hunt.

Then watch Doto brood about not getting anything to eat. So maybe having cubs wasn’t a complete chore- it did have its entertaining moments.
