When raising egg/hatchlings, there isn't too much you need to know. There are a few things to keep in mind though.
Try not to receive too many views on the first day. Getting over 400 views (yes it's possible) on the first day can cause a soft-shell sickness in your egg. To fix that is easy. Simply hide your egg for while, just until the sickness goes away. Then the egg will hatch normally.
The easiest way to avoid this is simply not to post or do much with your egg until after the first day. The sites above will generate enough clicks/views/unique views for you that waiting a day will not hamper your eggs chances.
No egg will hatch before 3.5 days have passed. No hatchling will grow up entirely until 3.5 days have passed. After that, it depends on the egg and the number of clicks/views/unique views. Each egg is unique and doesn't follow a set pattern.
