It'd been a challenge, no matter how stupid or dangerous it seemed now, and proposed by her brother no less. He thought he was so clever while he sulked behind Mom and Dad's heels, did he? Fine! Let him be scared and marvel when she accomplished the silly little task he'd proposed! Taming a skinwalker? No problem! She'd stewed over it long and hard, her tiny face scrunched in concentration as she'd scrabbled messy diagrams in the dirt with a hoof. Persy had never specified how big the beast had to be, and she was dead certain she could handle anything her size--even a little bigger. Why? Because she was Rebel, and if that wasn't a darn good reason, then she wasn't her parents' daughter after all!

With a grunt, the filly continued to shoulder the rotting log she'd discovered among the melting snow, rolling it at a steady pace towards the gouge in the earth she'd been fashioning all day with her hooves. Granted, it wasn't a very big log, and her feet were aching, but she had to make do with what she could get! Besides, wouldn't it look more impressive this way? With a soft snort, she exhaustedly shoved the wood into place and gave herself a shake, crimson eyes eying her work expectantly. Looked good so far!

Satisfied, she used her tail and nose to try and cover the thing with what snow she could, ears flicking constantly about in case anyone was coming. The last thing she needed was to be seen! Once the log was covered, Rebel quickly circled it to check for any missed spots. Perfect. With luck, she'd be able to find one of these skinwalker things and, using herself as bait, lead them straight to her careful trap! Once they stepped on it, they were sure to get stuck!

"Kekekeke...." Grinning nastily to herself, the filly straightened and began to peer about. Where to find one of these toothy things, anyway?

User ImageTantrum didn't much like the snow. It was bland and colourless, at least until you made it colourful. He'd enjoyed himself immensely in his little artistic rampage, upsetting anything he could find at add colour to the snow. Branches, twigs, any emerging flowers/grass. Even blood. He'd not killed the poor creature, even if that might have been the kinder thing to do, but he'd kicked it about enough to draw blood and he watched in delight as he rolled it about and left red trails on the white canvas.

Eventually, he'd exhausted all patterns he could from the little vole and left it wheezing and whimpering. He flicked his tail and gave his head a shake - mistake. He got all three of his horns caught in low branches. The indignity of it all!

Tantrum grumbled and tugged and thrashed and still they held on. Was this punishment from the forest for being so callous in his creative endeavors? Possibly, but any retribution they were seeking was lost on Tantrum as he flew into a rage. Nostrils flared, soul-less black eye-sockets as wide as they could go, he kicked and leaping and made horrible squealing, gutteral noises.

He finally crashed from the small patch of forest, still making what can only be described as a horse's 'growl', some branches still clinging to his red curved horns. He shook his head to-and-fro to dislodge them, finally making himself dizzy with the efforts.

What was that...? He thought he saw something move in the snow...

Well, if all that noise didn't attract her attention, it was the squeaks of something wounded that faithfully brought the filly forward a few steps. What the heck was that? And she watched, with eyes widened by curiosity, how the fanged, horned, winged beastie made his artwork of sorts. It was violent, it was senseless, and yet, she found herself fascinated. Still, she winced every time the little--well, whatever he caught--squeaked with pain, torn between preserving her own hide and watching more, and charging in to play hero and drive the bully off. She and her brothers might have been a little mean-spirited sometimes, but they weren't cruel! ...Not unless people deserved it.

She almost burst out laughing as she watched the strange colt toss his head and get them stuck in some of the vengeful trees. His frenzy at being caught, however, was enough to quickly make her reconsider her own trap. Look at him go! A little log would never hold him. Was this a skinwalker? She doubted it, not being able to see any pelts draped over his back... Well, still! He looked like good practice.

As black, narrowed eyes tossed themselves in her direction, she puffed herself up proudly and strutted forward, taking him in with a garnet gaze. "If you do that too often, you might hurt yourself somehow." She grinned a little, her curiosity unable to sustain her 'holier-than-thou' appearance for long. "You aren't a skinwalker, are ya? Just a bad-tempered sort of demon..." Well, hey, maybe Persy wouldn't know the difference. >3>

The snow...was moving?! After letting the dizziness settle, he realised it wasn't some strange ghost of the snow but was in fact a foal like himself. Now imagine his mixture of amusement and slight horror at what she looked like. White, traced in crimson patterns. First the trees, and now the snow had come for vengeance!

He didn't back down though. Fear was weakness and weakness lead to mistakes.

"...who wants to know?" he measured his response carefully, surprising for one of his age. But Tantrum had always been the sly one, the slightly manipulative and scheming one.

He ruffled his spiky, leathery wings on his back, more to prove to her he had them, like a show of intimidation.

"Are you blind, or are your eyes just that dark for no reason?" She teased, certainly not intimidated and growing more confident now that he hadn't lunged forward to bite her nose off or something. "I do! I guess ya can't be, since I always thought they wouldn't be so chatty." The rustling of his wings earned an amused snap of her tail in response, arching her neck as she playfully pranced about him in a circle.

He looked so weird! White rings, wings, and the different colored horns on his head... Well, she'd certainly found herself an interesting playmate. "You got a name? Or do you need to find out who wants to know that one, too?" She grinned a little, finally stopping once she was in front of him once more.

"I'm Rebel." Maybe he'd loosen his tongue if she played nice, huh?

Tantrum just glared at her, which was a strange sight to behold because of the lack of eyes. He flashed his sharp teeth again and pinned his ears back, rustling his wings some more. He seriously contemplated just suddenly unfurling them when she least expected it...

"Of course I have a NAME!" he said, his tone becoming increasingly agitated and 'brattish.'

"I'm Tantrum," he said in a sort of declarative. His voice still held a tinge of annoyance.

Oh, please! Like she'd never seen anything with teeth before. Besides, she had that log just lying in wait if he decided to do anything dumb, and Rebel was fully confident in her abilities to outrace this strange colt. A delighted grin flicked to her muzzle at his tone of voice, all too amused with how much of a... well, kid he was acting like! Never mind the fact they were both children.

"Tantrum, huh? Wonder why you're named that..." She rolled her eyes, but pranced closer to him again, sizing him up. "Hmm... All right, Tantrum. You ever heard of a skinwalker before?" Her eyes glittered as she watched him now. He was just ferocious enough that he might make a fine skinwalker! ...Or come in handy if she stumbled across a real one.

"Pssh, my name has nothing to do with me, its just what my parents decided to call me," he replied with a sneer. He'd have much rather preferred a more forceful or fear-inducing name.

"And no, but they sound stupid anyway. Why would anyone wanna walk around in a skin of something," he said derisively, breaking away from her scrutiny to look at the area she seemed so transfixed. Hmm, nothing obvious save for the scraping marks in the snow where she'd recently pushed it to cover the hidden log.

Tantrum leaned his head down, ears flicked forward and nostrils wide for a moment before shrugging and returning to this omen-foal.

"Why d'you need to find one anyways? Did your family get hurt by one or summat?"

"Uh-huh." Rebel had to bite back another grin, nodding sympathetically anyway. "And you should be caaareful that one doesn't hear you say that." She thought she was starting to figure out just how this guy worked, but she'd only know for sure if she tested it! "They're probably the most dangerous creatures out here, mm?"

She shook her head in answer to his question. "Nope. But I'm gonna prove how tough I am by catching one and taming it. Only the best could even hope to try." Rebel eyed him sideways now, her expression sly. "I wonder if you'd be up to the challenge, if one came along..."

"Anyway. They can turn into whatever animal they're wearing, or so my parents told me." She frowned a little, shaking her head. "So it's been tough to know exactly where to find one." But she'd do it!

"They can't be all that dangerous if I've never heard of 'um," he added, still in that self-assured sneer.

As far as he was concerned, he was the smartest thing out here, present company included, and if he didn't know it then it must be wrong. He supposed it was always good to learn something new though. A horse that could turn into another animal? Sounded very interesting, and a most useful skill to have. He began to wonder if it was something you had to be born able to do.

Maybe he could ask one! If Rebel was serious about catching one, maybe he could ask it how it did it, the whole animal thing.

His expression and attitude changed at that moment then. He had something to gain from this other foal. So, keeping her sweet was the aim now.

"So how do you intend to catch one?" he asked, his tone of voice more mellow and more curious, like youngsters usually are.
