It had been a long time since the blood bay stallion had that irresistable urge to wander, that lusting feeling that drew him all over Urin back before he met Cressida and created their family. However it had appeared again, showing up in the form of mild restlessness he knew would sometime soon grow into a much larger form of wander lust. It was disturbing at first, he didn't like leaving his love and their little family alone, especially after the ordeal with Zaknafein; but he decided if he nipped it in the butt before it grew into something else he should be fine. He didn't need to go far, just enough for a long walk. Oddly enough, one of his little daughters had been around to hear him tell Cress what he was up to, and had wanted to go with him.
Aitumn glanced back to the golden buckskin filly as she followed after him in her slow way. He had noticed that she seemed fascinated by the things around her, and he often needed to prod her into following more closely, but other than that she reminded him of himself. For he found beauty in the world around them, and enjoyed creating tales of fantasy that dipicted such things.
She had stopped again, and was looking at the small patch of white flurries near her hooves. Luckily it was D'ob, so he wasn't too worried about the cold weather. "You don't want to be left behind do you, mimila?" he spoke softly in a light jest, considering he had no intention of leaving her alone. She had seen the white things before, and they always disappeared almost as soon as they landed on her or she breathed on them. They were very interesting, and Riruy had told her they were called snow. Or rather it was called snow. The individual flurries were called flakes. She found things like this, language and learning the names of objects, very interesting and was apt to study it all. When Aitumn called back to her though, Tehya looked up and pricked her ears in alarm. "That's not funny riruy!" she gasped, and quickly loped back up to his side. She didn't like being left alone, but quickly forgot about it when he nuzzled her shoulder. "You wouldn't, would you?" She had to be sure.

Kali herself always had wanderlust. Generally her sister came running and jumping and towing herself along behind, but Kali had insisted she travel by herself for a few days and promised to meet back up with her at their old fruit tree and enjoy the the sweet grasses of D'ob a short few days later. 'Absence,' she'd said with a sigh as she tried to explain, 'makes the heart grow stronger.'
Of course, her sister had hardly believed her. It was true, too, that Kali was scared to be this far from a safe Nequus companion. Especially with how crossbreeds were viwed and especially more becuase she was a giant cowards and she very well knew it.
Imagine her surprise, then, when she stumbed upon just that! A crossbreed filly jumping around what obviously must have been her father. It was a sight that made Kali's heart flutter to see. An honest to goodness father kindly helping out and moving along one of his children regardless of the fact that she was an obvious mixblood. Their mother must have been Reya or crossbreed herself. But, it really wasn't important. It was family.
Giving a nervous glance behind her, Kali stepped forwards gingerly and then broke into a slow trot as she came down the hill. "Hi, hi, excuse me!" she called quietly but with a tremor to her tone due to the inability to compress her growing excitement. She would love to hear all about their lives if they would talk to her.

She apparently had yet to catch onto when he was joking and when he wasn't, so he had nuzzled her shoulder to reassure her. "Of course I wouldn't, I was merely joking", he chuckled. Hopefully the girl would learn not to take him so seriously, but perhaps that would come with age. At the very least it may give her a better time of things, he knew taking some individuals so seriously could lead to trouble. He hadn't quite noticed the approaching figure just yet, for his attention was attuned to his little daughter as she attempted to chew over the concept of 'joking'.
Joking? What did he mean about joking? He had done this before, and he had explained that it wasn't the same as lying; but they seemed like the same thing to her. Except joking was good lying. Things like this were strange, and she didn't quite understand them just yet, but her riruy wouldn't really leave her. She had confidence in that. "Okay," she confirmed at length, just before a voice called out from a short distance. Tehya swiveled her small head around and gazed at the pretty purple creature that came trotting down to the hill. "H-hi..." she called out in a slightly hushed voice, ducking her head behind one of Aitumn's forelegs; careful with her horn. She had learned early on that people didn't like getting poked by horns.
Aitumn too had looked up in the direction of the approaching stranger, but thus far she seemed friendly. As far as he could tell lately. "Hello there", the stallion returned steadily, pricking his ears. Normally he wouldn't have bothered to think of a nequus that seemed this friendly as a possible threat, but he was with one of his children. Precaution was a smart ideal, especially with crossbreed foals. Well-
Oh. He took in the bae wings as well as the ichsa horn and subtly relaxed his stance; not that he had been particularly hostile before. "Nice day for a little trek around D'ob?" He wasn't quite sure what she was doing here, but it was indeed a nice day for a little wandering.

Kali had a moment of doubt when Aitumn said 'hello there'. She was running into the situation assuming that they were kind and gentle, but what if he was a kidnapper. Well, that would make an amazing story too! It would be horrible, and awful, but it would make a good story.
Kali bit her lip. This was quite the dilema. She slowed to a walk and continued the approach with extreme caution.
"Hi," she said again, realizing she'd just said it until after. She'd never been quite this nervous before, but she didn't talk to many father's with foals. She talked to even less with crossbreed foals.
"Yes, it is," she said with a grin behind her and when she turned her head back she winked towards the crossbreed foal. "D'ob is quite huge, though. Did you know there are some places that all you can see is stretching fields for miles? It has to do with the dips and rises in the hills, I've been told. It just looks like endless grass and sky." Untill the wind picked up from the ocean. Then it became endless waves of grass and a turmoiled sky.
She cleared her throat and thought how best to ask. "So, this is going to seem a little strange, but I'm travelling around D'ob looking for interesting stories and rumors and legends. Do you happen to know of any?"

She seemed respectful at least, somewhat nervous, but respectful. If its one thing the stallion couldn't stand it was any form of rude behavior; especially if another individual appeared to put themselves above him for whatever reason. Thus, he had no reason to behavior displeasureably toward this crossbreed mare. Rest assured however, as the blood bay flexed his sleek neck into a graceful arch that meant to merely show his alertness, he'd get to her before she got the chance to make a ill-intentioned move toward his daughter.
"Indeed it does, I've traveled D'ob and many other places in my lifetime, and I must say the grassy valley is quite a sight to see. Especially from a slow sweep in flight; its really a rather beautiful scene to gaze at." As he had done so many times before he had met Cressida and they started their family. As for stories, the dark eyed nequus raised his brows in interest, about to say something before he was interrupted.
"Trie tells me many stories! About the humans and about adventures of nequus in the past; they're amm-maze-zing to listen to, Miss." Normally she wasn't this open with anyone new, but Kali had jumped onto a subject that the little foal simply loved to hear and talk about. She wiggled her way around Aitumn to gaze up at the pretty purple mare from the safety near the stallion's shoulder and grinned back. "Don'tcha riruy?" she goaded, hoping to poke one of his many stories out of him.
Aitumn couldn't help but chuckle slightly, already wary of Tehya's intent. After all, she took any chance she could get to hear another one of his stories. "Yeah, I know quite a few legends and stories to tell if you'd like to hear one."

Kali brightened as the foal began to speak. She craned her neck around so that she could view the filly better and smiled. "Is that so?" she pressured, looking towards the father with hopeful eyes as the foal insisted her caretaker new many.
For a moment, Kali was almost very rude. A 'Oh, all of them!' was stifled by her clearing her throat and nodding her head quickly.
"Well, I'd love to hear one if you can share. I'm trying to find out which ones are true and which ones aren't. . . it's quite a task. And if you know so many, you'd be an excellent place to start." There was a broad smile on her face and a glint in her eye.
She was just dying to know what he'd say! This was a lucky, lucky day for her!

Tehya had her little stump of a tail wiggling from side to side as she glanced between Aitumn and Kali, for a stranger this purple mare was very cool, espeically since she wanted to hear one of her riruy's stories. She couldn't help but squeal at the prospect and pranced slightly away from the stallion's shoulder, wanting to get a better look at him. "Pleeease?" the filly drew out, anxious to hear another.
Aitumn bobbed his head and tucked his feathered wings into close to his body in a more relaxed way. "Since my audience is so willing, I'll be glad to tell a story or two", he smiled, unable to keep the amusement from his features. As always though, his dark eyes were dull and nearly hollow; the complete opposite of his current emotion. "This is a tale of virtue, that one should not judge another based on appearances." Since his audience were both crossbreeds he figured they'd enjoy this one, that, and he wanted to teach his daughter that just because she was different it didn't make her any less a nequus.
"There was a secret hidden deep within the lands of Yisi, one that almost no Nequus knew about. One of the those Nequus blessed with the knowledge was an Ichsa mare with a coat silver like the light of the moon, but with soft tendrils of a pale purple that seemed to envelope her fully at some points. She was not of noble breed, nor could she remember exactly when or where she use to live, which was an odd sort for almost anyone, especially one as young as herself.
Every night she would travel through a special path carved through the trees and swamplands years beyond her age, by a mystical force no one could recall. And everytime she would be brought to a crystaline pond that made the curious shape of a Reya's horn, where at its base was thin line of water that poured down from the above cliffs. She could never tell where the water or cliffs came from, for she was certain there was none like it in all land. And every time she placed a hoof into the gentle waters, it would slowly tint to a light violet, including the very waterfall that seemed to be coming out of nowhere.
Once in the pool of shallow, crystal waters, the Ichsa mare would toss and play about like a filly seeing water for the first time, giggling and running circles all about the base. Yet, she never dared go past the waterfall, for there was a place at the base of the shallow pool where the water was always, always tinted black unlike the rest of it. She was unsure why, but she found it to be a forbidden area, as if whispered to her in a dream.
One day the ichsa mare with coat of silver and indigo was frolicing in her violet pond, happy and content to just be there and to play. No worries about her former life. No temptation to escape this paradise that had some how found her.
It was while she was splashing a bit too close to the base of the waterfall, that she heard a voice whispering from behind it. "Please, don't come closer", it seemed to plead quietly, almost desperatly. It surprised the Ichsa to the point of taking a step back, yet it also peaked her curiousity. "Whose there?" she called softly, lowering her head to gaze into the crystaline stream of water that cascaded down into the little pool. Again the whisper came, asking her to not come closer.
She would have listened, she really would have, but the voice sounded so lonely she couldn't possibly let it be. "Don't worry," she told the voice quietly again, taking on a gentler note than she had before, if that was even possible with a mare whose voice was already so sweet. Slowly she made her way past the cascade of water, having to close her eyes so she would be able to keep them from being stung.
Not half way through her nose bumped into something soft and warm, which brought her eyes, which were a deep indigo in color, open and fully. She had stepped into the black pool of water, and right in front of her stood a stallion as dark as night, a Reya with eyes of shadows and a hide tattered and torn by wars once fought. She was sure also, that he was hornless, and his wings were in bad condition.
"I told you not to come! Do you see? Do you see the monster that has brought you here?" His voice rose in anger, but it was dripping with pain and anguish. She caught this, and though it surprised her more than anything she couldn't help but bring her gaze up to his, if not tentively. "I see, sir, but I see also you are no monster."
She heard him stiffle a sneer, or perhaps it was snarle, which had her backing the rest of the way out of the waterfall and back into her pool of soft violet. Yet it would not stay that way, for the Reya followed her out. He was a massive creature, nearly the size of an Aeri, but leaner and much more handsome than any of the breeds could have ever offered. Or at least, he might have been in years past, for she could see now he was cut and torn, and his skin hung from the bone and the muscle like a grizzly corpse. "Yes you see, and now you will run. Like they all have."
He was a repulsive sight to anyone with eyes, but to her he held her compassion. So much pain in those eyes, in that voice, she could do little but step to him and place her cheek against his warm neck, closing her eyes as if to ward off the tears that were sure to come. "You are wrong friend. I knew you were there, always you were there with the black tinted water, to watch me, to give me joy. It was you who made this waterfall, wasn't it?"
In that instant, the water swirled the two colors together, violet and black so they striped each other and mingled into the crystaline waters. "... Yes." His voice was quieter now, back to its whispering as something seemed to happen once more. In flash of dark light his body was restored. The wounds were healed and mended, the horn grew back, and his scars disappeared. "Will you stay with me?" the now handsome stallion asked the young mare, his eyes holding a true brillance in them.
"Yes," she said, "Yes I will stay with you my beloved friend." He finished with a settling, affectionate nuzzle to his daughter's shoulder.

Well, Kali did like the story. She liked it a lot, but at the same time she didn't like it at all. It felt like a very silly thing for the mare to trust the stallion so quickly even if he was frowned upon. Afterall, being strange looking didn't qualify one to be a good person underneath.
Further still, it wasn't a true story. It hadn't actually happened. Had it?
If it had, that would have been something quite spectacular. A Nequus that could actually create places was. . . The idea was audacious that was what.
"Did you ever have the fortune of meeting this Ichsa mare?" she asked quietly. And to find such a place if it existed and meet this stallion, too. It would be quite something for the books.

She so enjoyed her riruy's stories, but the filly pricked her ears at the stranger's question. The crossbreed gave a pecular look first to Kali and then shifted it over to Aitumn, expecting him to answer even if she didn't prompt him to do so. Although she was curious, her sire had told her several times before that these were just stories. Much like lying and joking; they weren't real. However stories was a much easier concept for her to grasp, for it wasn't as closely related to lying as joking was. She could understand the intent of a story that is, and that was to entertain. Sorta. Maybe? She'd have to ask Aitumn to explain it again.
"Ah", the stallion spoke up after a momentairy pause. He had been slightly caught off guard by Kali's question, but the meaning sunk in quick enough. "No, it was a story I made-up for mere entertainment; as is my hobby to do so." The stallion's ears flicked back slightly in discomfort, it wasn't usual for him to feel awkward about telling his stories either. With a dip of his muzzle, somewhat embarrised for his mistake, he figured it had to have been coming sooner or later. His ego had been getting the best of him lately, perhaps deflating it some was a good thing. Nonetheless he cleared his throat to continue speaking, "I'm afraid I hadn't quite caught onto your meaning earlier. Would you care to give a better explanation? I wouldn't mind devulging whatever information I could." It was particularly embarrising in front of Tehya, but at the very least he could teach her to be humble through example. Even if it was at his own expense.
So... riruy had gotten something mixed up? She had never seen him do that before. Curiously she looked back to Kali to see what the mare's reaction would be, and whether or not this was a good thing anymore.

Kali couldn't help but to have a knowing smirk on her face. A lot of them thought she meant fake stories. But, no, she wanted real stories. Lives. Legends that could have looking into.
"I do like those kinds of stories," she explained with a nod, but then she furrowed her brows and thought of it. "But, what I mean are legends and stories of our times. There are strange an unusual people all around us."
She bit her lip. "For example, you might have heard about the Nequus that bare magic and play with fire. Or those that have been said to eat meat." She shook her head because she was getting ahead of herself.
"But, real stories, too. Like starcrossed lovers, or having an old family friend out to kill you. I want to tell tales of real people. And I want to meet as many of these modern legends as I can."

One of those stories? It was a good thing he had been such a restless soul in his earlier years, he wouldn't have gotten around as much if he hadn't. And better yet, interesting individuals happened to appear even after he settled down to better take care of a family. The blood bay than grinned a rather rueful thing, remembering all the stories he could tell her of his life. "I do, in fact, have quite a few of those to tell as well." None of which he had ever devulged to Tehya before, and some he wouldn't be too happy to share in front of her. Perhaps he'd need to curb those slightly with her as a part of the audience.
"Real stories?" the filly all but gasped. There were real stories too? Like the one her riruy told? And apparently nequus played with fire! At least according to Kali. Now this, the filly decided, was much more interesting. Even if the expression on Aitumn's face seemed somewhat scary, but maybe that's because she was just looking at him from below. She blinked slightly and waited for him to continue.
"Have you met the bone-clad aeri stallion named Lucius? We've met on several occasions, although admitedly its been awhile since I've been in his company. His accessories are quite unique; orange-red in color and stick together even while he moves. He's told me that they've belonged to a fire elemental in a past lifetime, but if you'd like to hear that story I suggest you seek him out for it. I couldn't possibly do such a tale justice in my retelling of it." He didn't quite think Lucius would appreciate that either. It was the Aeri's tale to tell as he wished, to whom he wished.
"Speaking of that last bit you mentioned, there's also a matter of some personal endeavurs I could talk about, but," he glanced down to the golden brown filly by his shoulder. "I'm afraid I won't be able to go into much detail about that one."
Someone was walking around with bones? Now that just sounded plain scary! However, Tehya raised her brows and gawked at Aitumn when he said he couldn't go into detail. "Why not? I've heard so many of your stories before!" She objected.

Kali nodded as he started. "I haven't met him, unfortunately." But that was certainly interesting. It was very strange to think about an Aeri that would romp about with bones upon his back. Kali would be very interested to hear his story.
The fact that Aitumn mentioned 'company' instead of anything else was promising. It meant that she might actually be able to talk to this Lucius, although she might find him absolutely terrifying.
"Sometimes telling personal stories is dangerous," Kali informed his daughter without evening thinking.
Her attention returned once more to the father. "I would be happy to hear what you could tell me. And I'm sure I can sort of tweak some of the details," she added with a wink.

"He's a great guy to know", he added with a bob of his sleek head. That is, if you were sensible about yourself. Aitumn was still pondering which bits would be deemed suitable for 'his' story with Tehya present, and her objection didn't fall upon deaf ears. He didn't say he minded Kali saying personal stories were dangerous, but he didn't like it either. Still he left the statement unjudged except for a slight twist of his ears. "Its a story I'll have to tell you when you're older, Tehya, but for now there are some things I'd rather you not know."
"But-" how else could she argue her point? She liked learning about things, about understanding what was going on around her. It wouldn't be so bad would it? Then again, it was two against one, and those odds weren't very good. Even to a foal. "Okay, but I'll remember this." She would, and she'd have Aitumn tell her when she was old enough. However old that would be.
Though Aitumn didn't mind telling stories, talking about himself and particularly this issue in his life wasn't very pleasant; however, he felt he owed it to Kali for his mistake. One of which he'd be sure not to make in the future. Hopefully. He was, after all, only a nequus. And even the strongest or swiftest of individuals made mistakes. They just needed to repent them later; as he was about to do now. "Cressida, this young one's mother, and I had just begun our family." Although in the begining they had not made the decision to become full-fledged mates; that was one things he'd explain to Tehya later. "I had been told by Lucius that a brute of an aeri had been looking for me, but I had not recalled his name nor his coloring. I blame that on the fact I cannot rightfully remember anything before young adulthood.
"When the green aeri stallion and I first met face to face he declared he wanted me dead so he could take his revenge, and a battle ensued. The next time we met was at my eldest son's grown tree, with both Cressida and I there at the time. Not only did the-" he stopped himself from growling the words drekhallah in front Tehya. The subject matter was still a rather sore spot for him to so much as think about. "brute attack myself, but he went so far as to declare his vengence on both Cressida and the fruit. Luckily we drove him off that time, but we weren't done seeing him yet. He came back again, this time when I was not there to help defend the lives of Cressida and Tucker; the unborn foal at the time. I fancy not to think what would have happened had I not gotten in there in time to help drive him off once more," he emphasised that last part, the blood bay's hallow eyes slightly shifting so as to look past or 'through' Kali momentarily. He did not like talking of this subject, but he had gotten far enough to where if he stopped now he would regret it. Not once had not finished a story he had started.
"Come to find out he blamed me for the death of his family, and I had not the memory to look back and see if such a thing was true. When Tucker was born we decided to make tracks for Quirne, and hope he'd have a more difficult time find us there. I wanted nothing more than to give Tucker a happy, joyous foalhood, but I also knew that wouldn't be possible until the threat of the green aeri; Zaknafein, was rendered useless. I took to wandering the beach at night when I could not sleep, and upon one of those treks I happened upon a rather annoying Reya mare who promised to take me to someone who might have seen Zak around. She didn't, and he had not. In fact she had come to insult the nequus we went to meet.
"Displeased I left her company, and sought out the other nequus a day later in hopes of heeding my search. He, on the other hoof, is an entirely different story. A jala stallion by the name of Sanue, with feathers along his neck instead of a mane, a beack at the tip of his muzzle, and two large talons for forelegs. In the end he agreed to help me out, and though days later he had spotted the brute, I hadn't seen him since. Although I suspect he's not fond of relations with other nequus." He was getting to the part that would need to be severly edited, and gave a glance down to Tehya as he pondered how best to go about it. Also giving a sort of subconcious cue to Kali that he would beging such editing.
"One day Tucker was off playing in the sands, Cressida and I hadn't noticed he was out of sight until we heard him squeal. When we came upon the sight, Zaknafein was in close quarters with the colt, and, well vengence was the only thing on his mind I'd assume from the looks of it. Cress, her dam Rhea, and I plunged down toward them and again engaged in combat. Finally he told us, told me, what had happened that day our pasts crossed paths.
"His family was killed in a storm." The blood bays nostrils flared at the stupidity that had seized Zaknafein, going so far as to attempt to kill Tucker because he blamed Aitumn for the happenings of a storm. "I am no elemental, and I hold no magic, mind you", he added, ruffling his feathered wings. "I say its lucky when Vierna, his aunt and another aeri mare from my past, showed up to attempt to explain things to Zak. It was no use however, and I wound up driving him off for the last time.
"I've not seen him since, but now I know my past is not tarnished with the bloodshed as he thought it was. Cressida and I have recently had another five foals together, and you caught me and Tehya here on a little walk away from the tree to stretch our legs." The stallion finished, some what calmed despite a few fiery spouts he felt as he told the story.

Aitumn was especially careful with his children. It made her wonder if she'd ever be the same way with her children? If she ever had children, that was. She wondered how doomed this daughter of Aitumn was in finding a mate. Perhaps she'd be accepted, but would she ever be loved?
"It seems to strange that he'd be so determined to see you put off," Kali said with a breathy air. It seemed rather foolish of fellow to not have dispatched of Zaknafien before he endangered his foals and mare. If Zaknafien was this determined for death. . . well, Kali couldn't imagine him sparing any of these little foals from harm.
"I don't know of any elementals that can control the weather," Kali added with a giggle. "Then again, I don't know of any elementals. I always assumed they were just a legend." Except her mother had told them of Fawkes once. Not an elemental, she said. But he could control the fire at his legs, so what did that make him? And how far did that extend an elemental's power?
As if suddenly nervous that this Zaknafien character might spring out from behind her, Kali turned her gaze to both sides of them and then behind her. "What are you going to do about him? What if he comes back again?"

Despite his attempts to mask his feelings of hatred and bloodlust for Zaknafein in front of Tehya, the Jala could not help the deep frown that laced his muzzle there after. Off-handedly one of his feathered wings extended to drape over the filly's back; he didn't like how silent she was after that story, and didn't glance down at her. Not until he was certain his facial feature's and muscle tension had relaxed. "That is a conversation I'll need to have with Cressida sooner or later." Would she hate him if he actually killed the drekhallah in front of her, Tucker, and Rhea? Would she hate him still if that path was one that needed to be taken in the future? He was uncertain.
"All I want for my children is a happy foalhood, perhaps after..." After they've what? Gone their own ways? Would he seek the green brute out of vengence to kill him? Just as Zak had done against him? The frown on Aitumn's face deepened and his ears twisted backwards at the thought. This was a subject too dark to be speaking of in front of Tehya, and so the stallion gave a large heave of breath and relaxed his tension. If ever he saw that aeri again, he wasn't sure if he'd be able to restrain himself even if he wanted to. That was good enough for now.
Revisited the earlier, lighter subject of the conversation, he picked up a somewhat forced smile. "Oh I'm not certain. If nequus' bones can contain heat years after his death while not falling apart, and a knuckle-headed, feather-brained herd of Jala can claim they're the choosen ones; well then just possibly a nequus can control the weather." Something a bit humorous at least. Obviously, Aitumn was no fan of the Katilenuck.
