Happily floating atop the waves, Lir contented himself with feeling the warm sun on his face and fur. It was a lazy sort of day, everything seemed slow and relaxed, even the fish which had made an excellent meal. It was just the sort of day for doing nothing, and those were the best days of all. Somewhat dozing, he drifted lazily as the currents softly lulled.

Cairbre sped through the ocean, pressing himself hard against the gentle current. The Saigh breathed in mouthful of crisp salt water. The sea was alive--and he felt alive! Corkscrew then flip then backflip then sprint! Endless blue swished and squished around him, the colorful reefs blurred streaks below--no, above, on the side, then below again. Light shined from above the surface, a place held in low esteem by this particular Saigh. With life in such abundance below, where one can pad along the floor or swim through the water, why ever go to the land where are all bottom-feeders?
Cairbre thrashed his tail to give himself a burst of speed and caught a good-sized fish in his jaws. Peddling to the surface, the blue Saigh wondered how the surface would be on this day.He had to admit it was more pleasurable to eat above water--the entrails didn't float away before you could eat them that way.
When he broke the barrier between sea and sky, Cairbre shifted into a more comfortable floating position, and began to devour his catch. They had better food, too, than their land-bound cousins.

His ear twitched at the sound of something breaching nearby. Grateful that he was saved a splashing, he stretched before rolling over and gliding into the water once more. Propelling himself through the warm waters, he caught sight of a dark spot in the light glistening above. Curious, he came up once more, a few feet away to give the thing space.
His head popping the surface, he saw someone having lunch, something he’d done just earlier.
“Uh.. hello! Good day to fish.”
He’d always been pretty poor with the communication skills, and realized that it was perhaps always a good day to fish, considering what they were. Well, too late now. The sardine was out of the can, he’d just have to hope he’d found someone with a sense of humor.

Cairbre chuckled. "Hello there! Indeed it is. Though it makes me sad I must end a life on such a lively day." Although, now that he thought about it, the moist air was warm, and it had a very relaxing feeling. The surface water moved back and forth, back and forth--no, he would not get sea sick, it would be far too embarrassing.
Slopping up the rest of the fish, Cairbre felt inclined to add, "My name is Cairbre, it is a pleasure to meet you. I haven't had the company of another our kind in quite some time."

Lir twitched his nose at the comment and realized he’d never thought of it that way.
“S’pose there’s no helping it. We are what we are... unless you want to eat kelp.”
He added with a smirk, not a fan of the flavor.
“Name’s Lir, same at ‘cha. And actually, I do believe you’re the first like ourselves I’ve met.”
He fully surfaced, rolling onto the waves as Cairbre finished his meal.

"Ah, kelp, forget it," Cairbre laughed. He was not fond of the leafy green either, but he still ate from time to time in attempt to "balance his diet"--not that he was going to admit it; this Saigh seemed share his dislike of the plant.
Swallowing the remains of the fish, bones included, Cairbre did a small flip under the water and came up again. "Got to keep wet, you know," said the navy Saigh, "I've heard the sun can cause serious damage if you're in it too long. Dries you up until you shrivel." Caibre shivered voluntarily, disgusted by the thought.
"First of our kind you say? What of your mother?" Cairbre frowned, but then perked right up again and asked, "Do you live near land-folk--is that it?" In his mind, the blue Saigh reasoned there must be a reason that the other avoided... well, others.
