It was a brilliant evening. The full moon was out, the water was running smoothly, the land was calm. The dark-emerald lunar lion couldn't ask for anything better. Ilori was in his element, and he was glad for it.
Tonight he was out fishing for dinner. And.... here was a good one---Whoa, whoops! The fish had been swimming together, and out flew three of them, one flying at Ilori's face and bopping him on the nose before landing out on the banks of the water beside the others.
Ilori looked surprised, then pleased, and then both playful and focused as he pounced on the fish, trying to bat them still---fishing for dinner was so much fun!

Lenore walked alone alone the river, a frown on her face. She'd been walking all day actually, trying to keep moving and out of trouble. It was hard for a cub to be out on her own and she was more worried now that it was nighttime. Not only that, but she was hungry...she'd had nothing to eat all day and no means of finding anything either.
She looked up in her walking to see Ilori. Somewhat frightened she slowed her pace then, a few feet from him, stopped and just stared at him rather frightened. She'd no idea what to do...

Ilori was having the time of his life trying to tame the flopping fish, and it wasn't until the fish were relatively still that he looked up from his first actual bite to see the cub sitting there.
He swallowed the bite in a moment, "Couldn't be luckier! I have two fish to share, bits and pieces for everyone, if your family will allow it." But after he offered, his cheerful smile turned down slightly, head tilting a little, "Are you ok? Do you need anything?"
He looked around, sniffing the air slightly. He didn't see or smell any others. Huh...?

"Family?" Lenore squeaked, confused. She hadn't a real idea of what family was, mostly because she'd never been with a family. Her face looked somewhat sad really, the loneliness she was feeling expressed by her eyes. She didn't want to bother the lion before her, so she said nothing more than that initial word but looked down at the fish. She looked at them hungrily then back at Ilori.
"So...I can have a fish?"

Ilori looked down to the fish, tore off some safe pieces, and leaned over to put it on the ground between him and her, "Of course you can. I like to share. Where is your Mom or Dad or brothers or sisters? Are you all alone?"
He frowned, then looked up and around. Was this baby alone? Really? He took a bite of his own fish, munching on it thoughtfully. What was it? Was he and Grinch orphan-cub magnets or something?

Len quickly began to eat the fish. She was glad to have it and fortunate to have found someone so kind. After a few bits she looked back up at Ilori and shook her head.
"I dun have anyone but me." She replied quietly. She then paused and was very quiet for a second before saying anything again, "Is that bad?"

Ilori frowned, then his ears flopped down at Lenore's question. He leaned forward, giving her a few quick, but gentle, licks on the forehead, "Well, I get really lonely and sad when I'm alone, and I have no one to help me out if I need it, and no one to play with. I think being with others is better. How long have you been alone? You don't remember anyone at all?"
It was in Ilori's nature to be anxious about others, and he was immediately taken in with this baby. Boy... Grinch was going to kill him for bringing out another.

Lenore shook her head. She didn't remember much of anything other than all of her walking. Life hadn't been about family...it'd been about surviving...that internal instinct that she felt.
"I've been alone all day..." She analyzed him, his ears were all flopped and he was frowning. She returned the frown, "I'm sorry..."

"Sorry? What for?" Ilori was surprised at that. He picked up the fish and brought them near the cub. He laid down, "My name is Ilori. You know, maybe this is a good thing. Maybe we were meant to be each other's family, hmm? Or I could find someone you'd like to be with forever. We could have fun together, I can get you as much fish as you want."
He smiled at her now, gently. There was no point in ignoring the fortune that fell on him if it came. He'd tried that with Phoenix Shelley. Grinch was trying that with Aidan. It seemed to end with them taking care of the cubs anyway. Bowser had taken in his cubs with no question and had them very close to him.

"For making you look all sad..." she replied. She listened to what he had to say, taking it all in and thinking about it. He was offering to be her family...To be nice to her...She liked the sound of that. She liked it a lot. She smiled weakly then frowned again, shrinking down towards the ground.
"I don't want to bother you Ilori..." she replied.

Ilori smiled and now nuzzled the cub, "I am sad because you don't have a family. If I leave you now, you won't have a family, and I won't know what will happen to you. I want you to be happy and safe. Do you want that?"

Lenore nodded and smiled slightly. She wanted to be safe and felt better that Ilori was offering. It made her feel like less of a bother.
"So If I'm safe you won't frown like that? Because I don't wanna make you sad..."

Ilori nodded, "That's right, I'll be happy for you to be safe. Right now, what do you think is the best way to be safe?" He smiled gently at her, it was a conversation that would logic itself right back into what he'd offered in the first place, but at least she'd have a good reason for it

Lenore thought for a moment then tilted her head slightly and answered, "Staying with a big lion like you who will watch me?" she asked. She hoped she had the right answer, for she really liked that answer.
