He was staring again. She could feel his eyes, always so intense, boring into her skull as she bent over her paper. She didn't want to look up, wasn't sure she could. She wanted a fix, that's what she wanted, but couldn't. Not while he was sitting in front of her, staring at her. So she kept her head down, her fingers clutched tightly around her pencil. The aroma of the coffee in his hand hit her senses, mingled with his soothing mango sent, relaxing her tense body. Still- she couldn't look up.

She was drawing again. It was a new thing she started doing since the incident with the nameless woman who'd hit her. His hands clutched tightly around his coffee mug before he slowly brought it up to his lips to take a deep drink. She never looked up when she was in one of these...moods. Rolling his eyes skyward, he shifted sideways in his seat to watch the people pass by him.

They were at the cafe again. They had been frequenting it lately. It used to be his secret, favorite spot, but she needed some place to hide, too. So he offered it to her. He would drink his coffee and she'd sketch away. Neither would say much, but he guessed there simply weren't words needed to say. She simply didnt know how to say the words needed to be said. So they sat, mother and sur-son at the quiet cafe on the busy street.

C'est la vie.

"C'mon, Abi." Kaya smiled softly to the little girl, looking excited as usual. Her camera was strap around her neck and she was planning to photograph people today; nature was great, but everyone always had their own certain charm in a picture. Ah, humanity!

She dragged Abilene into the cafe, smiling at the delicate girl. "Here we are!" She declared, whisking the lotus child into a seat so they could order, her eyes scanning around the cafe. There! Her target. Yes. "TAAANGO!"

Abilene felt herself jump a few feet into the air as Kaya quite suddenly screamed, disturbing the peace of the cafe. "The dance?" She smiled benignly to her mother. Kaya liked watching all those reality shows, including the dance competition ones. She always liked to try and be on the same page as her 'mother'.

Of course, Kaya was already halfway across the cafe when Kaya spoke. "Coffee! You're such a grown-up!" The woman doted, grinning. "And who's this?" She added, her bright green eyes landing on May. She was in a mode of euphoria right now; Tango was the perfect little subject to snap pictures of.

Oh, Devil at midnight mass! That scream had been all too familiar, and he couldn't help the startled jump in his seat at his name. His ******** stalker found him again. Oh, sweet mother of pearl-

And to make matters worse, May had looked up from her drawing and was snickering. The damn woman had been stoic all freaken week, and suddenly she finds now an appropriate moment to giggle? "You're absurdly pale, Tango." She informed in a low whisper, before quickly looking down at her paper again.

He opened his mouth to respond with something snappy, but at that moment the dreaded thing herself was at their table. Everyone's eyes were following her movement too. What a pain in the a--"May. My mother."

The woman in question looked up again, her expression schooled back into the careful stoic mask it had been before. Humor was short lived these days, apparently. That or she was bi-polar. How much would it cost to get her some meds...?

Kaya grinned at Tango, nodding to May in greeting. "I see!" She exclaimed, her eyes glowing. "I'm Kaya, a photographer and... I was wondering if I could photograph your son today!" She declared determinedly. She'd get permission, hopefully. Nothing was better than running around with Tango all day!

Abilene sat at the table Kaya had abandoned her at, watching her mother with dark golden eyes. She was used to the fact that Kaya got distracted easily, but it was somewhat disconcerting. She looked up to the waiter who walked up and quietly ordered tea and a soda. The soda was for Kaya, of course.

The child sighed to herself as she waited for the beverages to arrive, wondering if she'd be left behind again. That was just the way Kaya did things; Abilene was a responsible little girl and could handle it easily, but she never really got to spend actual 'quality time' with her mother. She knew other little girls did, but then she wasn't really like any of them. She just wasn't all that sociable.

"I don't mind." May responded before ducking her head back down to her sketch pad. Tango was a big boy, he'd made the painfully obvious since day one. He went off on his own nearly every day, and to make matters worse- he played the role of her body guard more oft than not. He could handle taking a few pictures without her hovering.

"M-M-may!" He stuttered out, and it was such a rare occurrence that he'd lose his cool in such a manner that she looked back up. His emerald orbs were wide with something akin to fear. "D-dont you need me to stay?" He was practically begging.

"Of course not." She responded, confused. She understood his desire to keep an eye on her- probably making sure she didn't get in another fight with some random chick- but really!

His eyes darted around, attempting to- obviously- find another excuse. Some way to get out of taking pictures. Her son had issues. Most people would offer an arm and leg up to someone to be considered as a model, and here he was trying to find a way out of it. Little freak. Ah, well, she loved him regardless.

"W-what about that girl? That one! Right over there. See her?" He was pointing at the child with blond hair and pink streaks. Taking in a deep, calming, and almost confident breath, he managed to grasp his cool again before speaking. "She's just as grown up, wouldn't you say? Sitting by herself. You should take some pictures of ******** genius.

"Excellent!" Kaya cried, obviously elated as she patted at Tango's head. This really was quite perfect; she'd been itching to take more pictures of Tango for quite some time. She grinned, seeing that Tango was clearly trying to get out of taking pictures. It certainly wouldn't work on her. "Thank you so much." She smiled warmly to May.

She glanced up as Tango pointed someone else out, her eyes flicking to observe. "Her?" Kaya pointed to Abilene, grinning like an idiot. "That's my daughter!" She'd already harassed Abilene with the camera enough; she was much too obediant. Tango was much more amusing when it came to these things.

"She is such a grown-up, isn't she?" Kaya placed a hand on her heart as she doted on the little girl who now glanced up in bewilderment.

Tango shot another nasty look at May, who was already buried back in her drawing. He narrowed his almond shaped eyes, momentarily distracted, trying to depict what she was drawing. ...what the hell was it?

At Kaya's hand on his head, he jumped back to reality and batted her hand away with a fierce scowl. His mother just handed him off to a lunatic, and she was drawing.

"Daughter?" He choked out at her words. Poor thing. "Oh, Jesus. Poor thing." ..Well. Apparently the brain filter wasn't working today. That wasn't supposed to be said out loud. But seriously, how did the girl survive? "How does she survive?"

Oh. ********.

Biting down on his tongue he mentally cursed it's willingness to share things it wasn't supposed to share. "She is grown up." He nodded his acceptance, deciding this was better than non-filtered-filtered thoughts. He didn't bother looking closely at the girl. His already barely-there interest at her..different hair was completely gone when he found her relation to Kaya. The chick was probably a psychochick like her mother.

Kaya looked to Tango, her expression still euphoric. "Hmmm?" She blinked at his comments about Abilene, pursing her lips. He was so rude, but he really just wanted to act like a grown-up, obviously. "Abilene survives very well! She remembers stuff I don't and... yes, she is very adult!" Kaya looked proud of the child sitting at the table a little ways across the room.

Abi's gaze had locked onto Tango as he spoke; it was a simple matter to hear he and Kaya conversing. She could comprehend some of what he was saying and her eyes darkened, an involuntary sigh escaping her lips. It had occured to her that that wasn't very nice of him, but she could afford to ignore it. She watched the waiter set a child's cup of soda before her and a tea in Kaya's place, waiting until the man left to switch the beverages. This was a normal occurence.

At least the boy seemed to agree she was grown-up.

Tango looked from Kaya to May and then let out a heavy sigh, running his fingers through his bi-colored hair. Damned if I do...Damned if I dont. Unthreading his fingers from his now mussed hair, he pinched the bridge of his nose and took a calming breath. Well- Maybe this doesnt have to be all bad.

"Coffee." He started, opening his emerald orbs to look intently on Kaya. After all, his cup was gone, and there was never such a thing as too much coffee. "Grande, caramel macchiato, extra hot, light foam, with whip." He hoped she was bright enough to realize this was the cost of his services. If he was to be subjected to pictures up the a**, he'd better get an expensive coffee out of it at least.

Glancing over at the girl from before, he pursed his lips slightly in thought. Tea? Really? He was willing to bet money could could show her the glories of a good coffee. "And maybe another one, too. Haven't decided yet."

Kaya stared at Tango as he demanded coffee. "Maybe you should tell the waiter?" She suggested, her green eyes blank. It reached her soon enough, once he'd commented about another one. "Aha!" She cried as if she'd made some brilliant discovery. "Of course! You're like a little nephew to me!" She informed Tango, throwing her arms out so he'd come and hug her.

Abilene watched her mother and the people she was talking to. It had to be admitted that Kaya could be quite batty when she wanted to, but she really was lovable. "The ice is going to melt and you won't want to drink your soda because it will be half water." The girl spoke knowledgably to Kaya, waving her over with a petite hand.

"...Oh." Kaya paused, glancing over to Abilene and letting her arms fall to her sides. "A children's cup again? I wonder why..." She commented, glancing to the soda.

A nephew? Oh, Jesus. If this insane woman thought he was going to hug her, she had another thing coming. Instead of responding, he shoved his fists in his pocket and, slouching a little, made his way over to the young girl who was beckoning them over. The sooner he got this done, the sooner he could get his coffee.

He didn't even wait for Kaya, as he grasped another chair from a table near by. The woman sitting there looked highly offended that he snatched the other chair away without questioning. There was a cup of...something, in front of the seat he'd stolen, but he hadn't seen the other person in a long time. Probably fled the scene. She no longer had use for the chair. She was in denial.

Setting the chair down next to the blond girl, he twirled it a bit, and sat in it backwards, his legs straddling the back of the chair. He leaned forward a bit, keeping balance with the tips of his toes, his arms crossed on the head of the chair.

"Tango."
He said curtly, before slowly turning his head to look at the girl. He attempted eye contact for a moment before looking away at the child's cup. A heavy sigh escaped his lips. It was going to be a long day.

Kaya had walked over to pick up her cup, sipping out of the twisty straw as she watched Tango. "He can't help it. He's had coffee this morning." She informed the woman he'd stolen from with an apologetic little smile, ignoring the glare she got back. Ah, children and coffee! What a bad little combination.

Abi meanwhile was staring at Tango with wide eyes, surprised at his brash actions. "The... dance?" She asked shyly, somewhat afraid of the teenager before her. He didn't seem to have much concern for other people and she was worried that she'd perhaps been targeted. The fact that Tango might have been his name was the last thing on her mind. Her golden eyes flicked around the cafe as she tried to comprehend the person right before her.

In the end she resorted to sipping her tea; looking to Kaya for help certainly wasn't going to work. Her mother was already distracted and had taken out her camera, snapping pictures of Tango this way and that.

"I can help it." He snorted back, to Kaya. A smirk playing on his face. He was highly amused at his 'aunty's' attempt at fixing things. "And it's not because I had coffee, it's because I haven't had enough." He wrinkled his nose a bit in mischief before, feeling awfully generous, offered her camera a small wink. Maybe if he went along with this, he'd get his coffee sooner.

At the girl's voice next to him, he turned to face her.

Welps.

He'd certainly give her props for interesting eyes. Butterscotch? His smirk died down to the most reassuring smile he could offer. She was obviously frightened by him. She should consider herself lucky to receive a smile at all, from him. Most people were never graced with that, in their entire time of knowing him. And quiet a few knew him for quiet a long time, at that. "No, it's my name." He offered in lue of an answer, giving her half a shrug.

Glancing down he grimaced at her drink. Yuck. "Kaya? I'd also like an iced, grande, no water, three pump vanilla, quad, with room, Americano." The girl next to him seemed like she'd have a sweet tooth. He'd hook her up right. She looked like she needed to loosen up some anyways. "Could I get those before I start...modeling...for you? I'm dying over here." He hoped by saying the woman's name for the first time, he'd win her over enough to get the drinks. He could be a regular Don Juan when the moment called for.

"You little devil~" Kaya sang out, looking completely charmed by Tango's wink. Ah, yes, Aunty Kaya was was eating it up. She snapped pictures, her eyes absolutely glowing as she watched Tango being nice to her daughter. Perfect! They would be best friends in no time!

The fact that Abilene was making a 'friend' was a big deal to Kaya, too. Even she had noted that her child was fairly anti-social; Abilene was also quality over quantity in her speech, which had something to do with the anti-sociality.

Abilene watched Tango with a meek expression, feeling the troubled look on her face lift somewhat when he saw he was smiling. Or... trying to. "Oh." The girl looked enlightened at his explanation, albeit somewhat embarassed. "I'm Abilene." She added hastily in introduction, sipping at her tea as unobstrusively as possible.

Kaya glanced up from where she'd been gazing intently at the camera lense, desperately waving for a waiter and repeating as much as she could remember of Tango's demands for coffee. "And be quick!" She added in a tone that could nearly be described as impatient; this was a shock for the usually mellow woman.

Tango bit down on his tongue to prevent the laugh that was bubbling up in his throat. He'd certainly never been called a little devil before, especially not in such a charmed manner. Perhaps May might have called him it out of exasperation, but never so charmed as Kaya.

His attention turned back to the embarrassed girl. He was almost tempted to tell her what his name was associated with, just to relieve her of her embarrassment, but thought better of it. Kaya was dumb, as it was. She might believe that he was born from a cup of oil, but he doubted this child would. She'd just have to deal with the embarrassment.

"Abilene." He tried the name on his tongue, rolling it around a few more times in his mind, trying to implant it there. It was too long, in his opinion, but who was he to judge?

He frowned when he saw her take another sip of her tea before reaching out and snatching it away from her, and placing it on his other side. He didnt bother explaining himself. That stuff was disgusting. He couldn't fight the smirk coming onto his face at Kaya's near impatient tone. "Thanks, Kaya." He spoke, laying the charm on thick, offering another smirk for her camera.

Putty in his hands.
