Bell was in the outskirts of Nine's berry garden, replenishing her bag's stock of commonly grown berries. These berries were quite numerous, but the black Ninetails's berries always were the healthiest and best tasting. The Delibird had not asked for permission to pick the berries, but hopefully she would not get in trouble. She was an expert when it came to berries; she never over-picked a single bush, she never took more than she could use within a few days, and she did plant the berries she didn't use. She didn't plant in Nine's garden, of course, but in other fertile areas, wherever she might be journeying.

The Delibird straightened up and dropped another berry in the bag by using her flipper-like wing. Delibird's wings had an odd joint that allowed their wing to bend forward like a fingerless hand. It came in handy (pardon the pun) at times. Bell closed the bag and used her other wing to drag the bag to the next spot. She was almost done picking for now. She never stayed for long, in case Nine was nearby. Bell wasn't afraid of the ninetails, but she was wary of any opponent who knew rock-type attacks. She wasn't keen on risking getting her fresh berries bruised anyway.

Though she didn't know it, Bell was in a better mood than usual. Something about picking really good berries was a calming business for her. As a plus, her annoying teammates and trainer weren't around. Yes, being alone was a good thing. Except when you were angry, because then you didn't have anyone to blame and throw ice chunks at. But she did not currently want to throw ice chunks at anybody, so Bell was quite happy with her solitude. No one to bother her here!

Except Nine. Yes, it was best to get going. Bell dropped two more berries in her bag, then transferred it to her foot. Clutching it tightly, she lifted into the air. Time to get going to... Where? Bell gave a rare smile. She had all the time in the world. She didn't have to go anywhere! Bell set down in a comfortable tree and put her bag between the branch and trunk, wedging it down securely. There! Now she could just take her time... Eyelids half closed, Bell surveyed the garden. It was paradise, truly.

Luna's team was getting more and more crowded with her new piplup and dratini. Not that Prince minded the two - he even felt a vague brotherly twinge towards the two weakest in the team (for now at least). But he hated babysitting all the time and Nine's berry garden was the perfect refuge for him. Luna didn't need him at the moment anyways - she was going through an intensive training course for her 800 HP pokemon and he wanted to take no part in any training. Today was to be a day of leisure for him.

Perching in a nice sturdy tree that was able to handle his large body, Prince began to slowly rearrange his feathers into their proper positions while coating them with powder in his mouth to re-waterproof them. It was almost a daily ritual - he always made sure that his feathers were in as prime of a condition as they could be before he went into battle. They had a great affect on his strength after all. A misplaced feather could ruin the feel of a draft and the water proofing helped him ward off some of the annoying water attacks.

Right after he set the last tail feather in place, Prince heard a rustling from nearby, wondering what wild pokemon had wandered into the garden. Even though he knew it was probably just another random mankey, he felt he owed his teammate enough of a debt for allowing him peace to investigate.

He was quite surprised to find the Delibird he had met on an earlier trip and defeated recently in a battle. The lovely Bell. Figuring he had the rest of the day to waste, Prince silently descended on a branch next to Bell. "Ah, it's a surprise seeing you here again...Bell was it?"

Bell looked up. So much for being alone... But this bird, unlike most other pokemon, did not bother her too much. "Yes, that's my name, Prince," she said. Her tone was slightly more welcoming to conversation than usual. At least it wasn't brittle with ice, which was how she greeted most pokemon. "How are you?" she asked, surprising herself slightly. It's not like she cared how he felt...

Bell preened some of her feathers, using upmost delicacy in order to rehook the tiny barbs on the feathers so that they connected correctly. That made flying much easier. Flying was a difficult thing for Bell, who had a layer of blubber to fend off the cold and a bag full of berries to carry around. Her wings were also rather small for her body, being better swimming wings than flying ones. She needed every advantage she could get in order to actually get into the air.

When she had finished, she watched Prince carefully. She wasn't going to ruin her splendid mood because of him! Of that she was determined.

"I'm doing quite well," Prince replied with a merrily, "spending a day in the garden is definitely more peaceful than spending a day with my teammates and trainer in the city."

After thinking over his last few lines, Prince snorted to himself. Being anywhere could have been better than being with his teammates that seemed to cause trouble every few minutes. And he was always the one Luna used for her escapes. Even though he was endowed with a large body and strong wings, a 95 pound trainer was still quite heavy.

For a short moment, Prince half opened one of his mighty wings and rearranged a single feather that had been bothering him before looking back to Bell. "I'm guessing you're here for similar reasons?

"True, that's the exact reason why I'm here, other than to replenish my stock of berries. My team always manage to irritate me..." Bell stopped herself from going any further before she could get all worked up. "But a little bit of company from someone like you couldn't hurt," she acknowledged.

Bell eyed Prince under a scrutinizing gaze. Certainly, he was not annoying like most pokemon, but he had beaten her more than once in battle. Could she make friends with someone like that? Prince was also known as a huge flirt. Maybe he was just messing with her. If he was, Bell would knock some sense into him!

"I'm honored you're willing to let me keep you company," the large bird pokemon said, tilting his head to observe Bell closer.

"Have you recovered well from our last match?"

"Well, you know, a trip to the pokecenter takes care of most of the wounds... I'll live," Bell said grimly. Well, at least he wasn't ignoring the fact that he had royally ((LOL)) beaten her to bits. "I'm a tough bird, despite my size," she finished.

Indeed, Prince was larger than Bell. Whereas he could carry a light passenger, Bell was a bit over two feet tall and could carry a bag full of berries, but not much more. But Bell's temper certainly made up for her size... "So how is your girlfriend?" Bell asked abruptly. It was one way to test if Prince was seeing another bird, just to be sure. It wasn't foolproof, but if the question caught him off-guard, he might reply before he thought what answer would be best.

Bell snickered quite evilly in her mind.

Prince did not doubt Bell's strength at all because he came quite often to watch stadium matches when he was bored. Prince greatly disliked being crammed in a small ball all day and watching others beat the crap out of each other proved to be quite an amusement. And ChuChu was much smaller than Bell and he knew his teammate packed a big punch.

But he was thrusted out of his musings by Bell's next question. Immediately he blinked and asked curiously, "What girlfriend?"

His words were completely honest. Although Prince enjoyed flirting with some of the lovely birds that came around his territory, he had never taken a mate (at least not one he intentionally planned to have a litter with). Of course, he had stolen the hearts of some of the pamper birds owned by coordinators who fancied prince as a dashing rogue bird who would protect them from anything. And he did, because they were females in his territory afterall and he did not want to let any potential mates get hurt. But Prince only led them on out of amusement.

He was also quite picky with who would be his permanent mate and the trainer bred birds were sadly too domesticated and weak for his tastes.

"Oh, my mistake, I must have been thinking of something else," Bell said airily. It was absurdly easy to avoid a problem when it came to Prince. His personality was so unlike Bell's that they could be a perfect match. In other words, Bell would hate to meet a bird that was anything like herself.

Bell then decided that it was all right to do a bit of flirting of her own. She blinked coyly at Prince. "You're quite strong, you know," she said. "A good opponent. But I think that fighting isn't all that you do?" Once again, in the privacy of her mind, she sniggered. Males loved to talk about themselves and it made for easy conversation.

'I have my trainer to thank for that,' Prince thought to himself, not that he appreciated his trainer much. He remembers the days when he even fancied himself as a contest pokemon. But now he did enjoy battling, to some degree at least. The thrill and adrenaline rush of the fight was incomparable to being put on display in front of a crowd and dazzling a bunch of humans.

Prince was inwardly amused when Bell shot him a look similar to some of the town swablu. He wondered if she was the type that liked hearing long tales or would prefer to talk about herself. Prince inferred Bell was the former. But either way, he knew he couldn't say his hobby was flirting with the local swablu, that certainly wouldn't get him into Bell's good books.

"Besides being forced to watch my teammates and perfecting the art of rearranging singed feathers after a fight, not much." The pidgeot replied with a thoughtful tone. Prince decided to play it safe and find out more about Bell as well. One must gather as much knowledge of an unknown enemy as possible in a battle and love was definately a form of warfare

"I'm sure your life is much more interesting than mine Bell, what does a fair lady like you do besides blasting away opponents?"

Bell was a little surprised at the question about her own interests, but she didn't let it show. "Well, collecting berries has always been my favorite thing to do," she said carefully. "Other than that, just relaxing by myself and preening my feathers." Bell wished that she had something more interesting to say, but truthfully, she enjoyed battling. It was a good way to work out her temper and keep in shape.

Bell now watched Prince with a calculating eye. He was strong and handsome, it was true, and he seemed polite enough. Was he worth her time, though? She was still suspicious about his relationships with other birds. Oh well, she couldn't be sure that he was interested in her that way, anyway. Why was she worried about it? Perhaps he had just been bored and found someone to talk to.

Prince was about to reply but unfortunately, at that moment, a gligar decided to swoop in and steal Bell's bag. Why bother picking his own berries when someone else had already done it for him? And he knew there usually were some shiny goodies in a delibird's bag.

The gligar apparently did not know it was dealing with two of the fiercest pokemon in the Zatao region.

Reacting on instinct, the pidgeot erected a large protect attack around himself and Bell, causing the poor pokemon to ram face-first into the invisible barrier and fall backwards after the initial impact.

"What an annoying little fly." Prince commented, looking down at the fallen Gligar from the treebranch. "I do believe he was trying to steal your bag, silly thing."

The pidgeot had a feeling that he would not need to do more than this if the rumors had been correct about Bell's temper.

(( Oh no he DI'NT!! xD ))

Bell's feathers stood on end, making her seem almost as big as Prince, which was quite a feat for such a small bird. Her eyes had turned to brittle chunks of ice, unfeeling and cold. Her rage emanated from every pour in her body and her beak opened savagely, ready to tear or to scream insults. No one-- no one took Bell's bag!

The Delibird left the brown sack on the tree as she lifted into the air, talons extended. She was quite composed while she considered the pathetic pokemon's punishment. A bit of Bell's specialty should do the trick. The delibird opened her beak more widely, and out dropped a hail of ice shards.

The poor gligar writhed in pain as the ice chips cut into him. He was just trying to get some food-- what was the big idea?!

But Bell was far from finished. An impossibly large boulder of ice exited her beak and fell with a resounding crash right on top of the unfortunate would-be thief's foot. There was a final cry of pain before the gligar fainted. Even if he woke up, he would not be able to escape until the ice melted and freed his foot.

Bell flew gracefully back onto the branch, her temper still flaring, though her expression was cold. "I don't think he'll be trying that again," she said smoothly.

((*winces*
Remind me to tell Chirper to never ever try to steal Bell's bag xD;; ))

Prince glanced at the Gligar again, reminding himself never to piss off Bell - although he figured he could probably hold his own against Bell better than the gligar that just got crushed could. Still, he wouldn't risk the ice-bird pokemon's wrath, it was quite frightening.

"He was quite foolish, the garden here is plentiful enough for him to get his share." Prince commented, "You were quite thorough in your punishment."

And Prince admired that. He admired Bell's strength and even her fiery temper (and he thanked the pokemon gods that the anger hadn't been directed at him yet outside of battle).

"But we shouldn't let such things damper such a nice day," the pidgeot continued with a slightly chipper tone, "would you care to take a bath with me in the lake? It should be nice and temperate enough to soak in at this point of day."

(( xD ))

Bell huffed, but allowed Prince to take her thoughts away from the gligar. "Very well," she said, her eyes softening and feathers returning to normal. She grabbed her precious bag in one foot and prepared for takeoff.

Bell managed to get into the air after a bit of effort-- she wasn't the best flier in the world. She looked around for the lake, but she couldn't seem to spot it. She turned in midair to face Prince. He would have to lead the way.
