The park seemed to be the best place to bring the boys to play, it gave Adrian a wide range of things to play on and animals to chase so that he would exhaust himself. When he was tired it was less likely that he would break things when he was home due to being idle or bored. Faina sat on a park bench with Jadian at his side and both were watching as the dark skinned boy chased after a good sized swan with a stick.
It wasn't a completely one sided battle as from time to time the large bird would round on him, taking bites at him, flapping its large wings, and otherwise trying to make itself look more intimidating then what Adrian was. The boy wasn't buying it... he was tough and he was quite confident in his skills even though he was still on the young side.
A bit of a bad sign for things to come... in the future he might be just as willing to stand against others bigger then he was.
Faina was watching him closely, never did he let the boys out of his sight. He was worried about what he'd been told about them long ago, about keeping them safe. It was the most important thing to him... he was glad that at least Jadian was always at his side it made it easier to have two pairs of eyes watching the enthusiastic Adrian.

Ethel let Verill run around, just about half in her sight. She took him (against the better judgment of his guardian's guardian) to the park for, in her own words, a “good airing-out”. He thought it was important for him to explore and run around on his own, so he just kept a relaxed watch to make sure he didn't get into anything he shouldn't.
Verill walked around for a bit, causally exploring this unfamiliar terrain. Exploring was his only real pastime. Well, that or being told wild stories by his great-Grandpapa (yes, Grandpapa!). As Ethel knit (having no real idea where Verill might be, as she could always round them up later) twisted her knitting needles as she recited her favorite poem to herself. One which began “Have I not reason, beldams as you are”.
On Verill's adventures he came across a very, putting it lightly, mischievous boy who was beating a swan with a sick. He thought about finding a bigger stick, but he wouldn't be sure if he should beat the bow and protect the swan, or beat the swan and trump the boy. Always feeling in competition, he found a bigger stick and waited for the swan to run his way.
Once it did, he jumped out beat it on the neck, paralyzing it below there.. He proudly stood over it honking and twiching, and thrashing it's head about, waiting for the other boy to marvel at him. Even at this young age, this boy has a huge ego.

Adrian froze in place for only a moment when someone suddenly jumped in on his battle against the swan. His strangely colored eyes went quite wide when the swan was taken down and a sound like a growl came from Adrian's throat as he turned his attention from the fallen bird to the one who done it... then swung his stick at Verrill, aiming for his legs. He didn't like strangers coming in and not only taking over his game but winning at it! No fair at all!
Faina was on his feet instantly, racing forward toward his second son, "Adrian!" He called out, eyes going wide. Oh geez... how could he do that?! Swinging sticks at a filthy birds was one thing and swinging it at another person was another.
Jadian toddled along after his father, hoping to catch up with Faina, with Adrian, to try to figure out was going on... and hopefully to try to get Adrian out of more trouble then he needed to be in.

Verill had to win at everything, and so, he swung his stick back at Adrian in a playful, mocking way, intentionally not hitting him. Shortly before this Ethel realized she lost Verill. This would be bad for her mostly because word would get back to her current romantic interest and seriously mess things up for her.
She pulled her broom out of her handbag and unfolded it. She found it on-sale and couldn't pass it up. She was an old crone always looking for a bargain. So, above the park she flew, looking for Verill's dark hair. She spotted him (she was hard of hearing anymore but could see sharp as ever) and descended down to the group.
On her way down, she gather more information about the scene she saw another boy with another stick and knew what she must do first. Figure out who killed the goose, then once the spoils were divided properly she would have the children duel in a regulation arena. That is, if she got her way.

Adrian fought in a very different way, not amused or playful at all, swinging in an attempt to punish the other person for ruining his fun... before he heard someone calling his name. Blast... Faina had found him already... he took a couple hopping steps backwards and lowered the stick to the ground and gave his Dad the best smile he could conjure. He was playing innocent... and failing given the scene laid out before them.
Jadian froze when he got close, looking over the scene before his eyes went wide and watery. What had happened to the swan? He took a step closer to it before gazing at his Dad, lifting his hands up to catch hold of him and clung. He wasn't sure why but looking down at the swan as it was now made him feel ill and shaky.
Faina gave him a little pat on the head before he turned to look at his other boy, "Adrian... playing with them is one thing, hurting them is another." He said, lifting a hand to rub it against his temples.
Adrian gave a growling sound, lifting his stick and pointed at the other boy accusingly.

Verill proudly took all credit. Had this been a tribal scene, he would be regarded as a great hunter, at least, in his own mind.
Ethel came down and looked at Verill with what Austeraud (the Great-Grandpapapa) called her 'idoit-look'. She didn't know what to do, and didn't want to be judged by the father of the other stick-wielding boy. She did what parents do in this situation, bit the bullet, and introduced herself to the other boy's parent.
“Hello, there. I see our boys have-” Ethel stumbled “-met. So why not us?”. She extended a green warty hand to Faina, pickled the the olives on the branch one extends in friendship and peace.

Adrian swung the stick around and stuck it into the ground before he walked over to stand next to his red haired brother, lifting a hand to pat him on the head. He wasn't sure why but Jadian was looking a bit paler then was normal for him.
The redhead looked up at Adrian and then leaned against his Dad more, letting his eyes half closed. It was all a bit much for him so he decided to cling to his Dad and leave everything up to him. Adrian gave a little huffing sound, not liking that his brother was acting like that. He was to anti social... not that Adrian's version of being social was to much better it the long run.
Faina looked down at the woman's hand, feeling his overwhelming dislike of germs creeping up his spine before he reached out to take it, shaking it, "My name is Faina Solstice, these are my boy Adrian and Jadian." He introduced his boys.

Verill looked at Adrian with a cocky smile and Ethel didn't notice.
“I'm Verill's Aunt” she said, as a bit of a lie. She was his Great-Great-Aunt, but that made her feel too old. “Call me Ethel, everyone does, Dearie!” She winked playfully.
“Now, what are we going to do about this?” she asked, referring to not the children, but the goose.
Verill simply stood next to Ethel, waiting to protest whatever credit the other boy got for killing the goose. He wanted the spoils of his hunt!

Adrian took a step forward toward Verrill as though he were all for tackling him but Jadian caught hold of his wrist stopping him short. He didn't want for his brother to get into any trouble even if it caused Adrian to turn his temper his way instead.
Faina looked down at the bird, nudging it with his foot with shaking his head, "I suppose we should dispose of it, I saw a dumpster back toward the parking lot." He said, not knowing what else one might do with a dead animal aside from that.
Jadian looked up at his Dad, eyes wide before tears started to spill over. The birdy was dead and they were just going to throw it away? He lifted his hands up to his chest feeling it skip a beat, having a strange moment of déjà vu like. He wasn't sure why but... just something about it felt weirdly familiar even though he had never been around anything dead in all his life..

Ethel was shocked. “Dispose!?” she yelled. “I could make soup with that bird! Don't tell me you've never had Goose-noodle soup!” cackled a little at the entirely foreign and somewhat ridiculous idea that anyone could have never had goose-noodle soup.
Back at home, Austeraud was the odd-one-out, being the only one to not like Aunt Ethel's cooking. It was somewhat strange (try “don't throw away the eyes, I can mash them up for my guacamolé”-strange), but it wasn't bad, just something you wouldn't want to eat if you knew what was in it.
Verrill noticed the boy wanted to tackle him, and he would wrestle with anyone, any day. His stomach, however, was not as agreeable and would need to be filled before any rough-housing.
((If you notice, I finally caught the spellchecker in the program I type my posts in correcting “Verrill” to “Verill”, which is weird because neither of them are words or all that common names.))

"Neither myself nor my sons will be eating a dirty creature that has been running around freely, unattended to possibly get ill in a park." Faina said, looking shocked and disgusting over the idea of someone wanting to eat the swan that was laying on the ground in the dirt... it caused his stomach to flip-flop then clench, "You can have it if you want it so badly though."
Adrian looked over at his brother wondering why he had such a strange look on his face. He turned his attention from the other boy who he was no longer interested in given the adult supervision and gave it to Jadian. He lifted a hand up to give him a little shove to get his attention.
"Huh...?" Jadian blinked up at him.
Adrian gave him a long look before ruffling his hair to make up for the shove. At least he wasn't starring at the bird as though it were some sort of horrible loss to the world having one bird die.

Aunt Ethel took the dead bird and put it in her handbag. “Hey the inside is clean, but suit yourself.” She said, wagging a finger.
Verrill, now content with reaping his spoils saw no need to associate with the other boy, and began to wonder away. Ethel, in her ultra-responsible care-taking entirely forgot she shouldn't let a small child run away.

Faina nodded, watching in a queasy sort of way as the woman picked up the dead animal and put it in her bag. He shook his head as he tried to put the image out of his mind, "Good luck with your stew." He said, taking one of Jadian's hands and one of Adrian's hands and started to lead the pair along, away from the strange woman.
Jadian clung to him, happy to be on his way away from the bird... or at least the woman that was carrying the bird in a bag and the one who had killed it. Adrian spent only a moment watching as Verrill left before giving a snort and followed along a bit reluctantly. No fun... he wondered if there were any other birds to mess with... though somehow he doubted he'd be able to mess with any of them.

Ethel realized, after a second she should go get the child. So she did. She hobbled after him, and both went their separate ways.
Ethel went home and made soup, Austerad didn't like it, as usual but it was pretty good, and very fresh.
