I've seen quite a few people around the guild are interested in the acting world and have been in a couple shows so this thread is for us to gather and discuss what shows we've been in, experiences, and the like. Even if you're not an actor (or actress, if you really prefer), you're welcome to chime in about your favorite shows that you've seen or even experiences working stage crew if you wish. This could be interesting... Theater people tend to be a bit... eccentric and eclectic.
Okay, me... I'm one of those quiet actors. You know, the one who comes in the first day of class or camp not really talking and being told to speak up on stage. I get more confident as the time goes on and I usually get cast in a really awesome role. Like the villain. I love being the villain! My favorite roles were the Wicked Witch of the West in our middle school production of The Wizard of Oz (that's my dream role ; P) and Audrey II (the plant) in Little Shop of Horrors. I'm aware that that is a male part. It was at camp and we had two guys and about 15 girls. One guy played Seymour, the other didn't even technically try out because he couldn't sing. I don't know why he signed up for that camp. Anyways, that was my favorite role EVER because I got to be WAY over the top without being too weird. Unfortunately, I was onstage as the plant for less than five minutes (just the final song and the bows) because the plant was this enormous puppet that had to be operated by someone else. I was however, a bum for the opening scene of the show. That was fun too... I've done a couple of other shows (well quite a few, actually), but nothing really major. Oh, I was Lucy in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, too. Now, that was a fun part. Anyways, when I do monologues and short scenes, I tend towards the serious or emotional. I always feel more connected to those types of characters and situations because they seem more real to me.
This got really long and I could talk forever for this kind of stuff, but I'm sure no one would read through that (or even this) so I'm going to stop now. Oh, but my favorite shows in general (not counting any that I've been in) are Rent (which I'm going to see TWICE next week with ADAM PASCAL and ANTHONY RAPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Wicked, Les Mis, Phantom of the Opera (classic), and Into the Woods. I also enjoy a lot of Shakespheare and loved the interesting rendition of The Trojan Women which I saw in Stratford this summer.

I'm in this Academy in at my high school where we have separate English and history classes, and then a specialty (mine is drama). The advanced drama class does two plays a year, and then outside of that class there are the fall play and the spring play (which is a musical every other year). There are also one-acts in winter.
I love to act, but I don't get into a lot of plays, unfortunately. I've only been in three plays in high school so far, and it's my junior year. (Two of those were one-acts.) I'm acutually auditioning for two plays on Wednesday - the spring advanced drama play and the spring musical, which is Into the Woods. Wish me luck!

Good luck! I LOVE Into the Woods! The music is amazing! Are you trying out for a specific part?

I'm trying out for Cinderella, although I don't really care what role I get as long as I get one. (Which I probably won't.) So, for the past few weeks, I've been working on "On the Steps of the Palace".

I'd probably try out for the witch if I could, but that's mostly because I love Last Midnight and I have a thing for witches. I hope you get the part though!

"Last Midnight" is probably my favorite song in the entire play. xd However, I don't think I could pull her off... I'm going to keep my fingers crossed. Thanks!

That sounds like a lot of fun! My audition for Into the Woods was yesterday. I was a bit pitchy in the beginning since I was nervous, but overall I think I did pretty well. The callbacks list will be posted tomorrow, and I'll probably know whether I got a part sometime next week. I wish it wasn't such a small cast! I also auditioned for Alice in Wonderland, which is the advanced drama class play, yesterday. The cast list is posted tomorrow. I just hope I get some fun parts. xd

I am currently obsessed with Shakespeare. I saw Macbeth at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival last Wednesday, and I saw Kenneth Branagh's four-hour version of Hamlet on Sunday. After seeing those (especially after seeing how incredible Kenneth was) I haven't been able to get Shakespeare off my mind. Next year's spring play will be a Shakespeare play, and I am dying for a lead role - no matter what the play is.
