Who wants those boring old copper pennies? They're no fun. So instead why don't you make them a bit more interesting by turning them into brass pennies? This is a common Chemistry Lab experiment, and can be done with most common stuff as well as a bit of Zinc powder and NaOH (which you can probably get fairly cheap from chemical distributors).

While nifty, this may not be the best of ideas when using pennies as actual currency. Vendors will probably be reluctant to take pennies of non-penny coloration. Perhaps a good use would be to exchange with friends, or even to make jewelry.

This is true. D:

But most vendors don't pay much attention to pennies methinks. Then again, I don't even remember the last time I paid for anything with pennies. My friends are the plastic and the bills. Pennies are only received as change. o__O
