As the days started to shorten and the weather started to cool, Savith called the hunters to meet him at the edge of the forest. **Starsong** **Dewpaw** **Autumn Joy** **Gentle Midnight Dancer** **Creek Runner** Privately, his mind sought Blaze's as he waited for the others to arrive. **Blaze, Are you comfortable moving in the forest? If so, I'll trade you on this hunt, and I'll stay home to mind the ladies,** his mind offered to the firestarter.

Autumn showed up coming out of the woods in a leap from a tree. *What is it My Chief?* Her mood up.

The fire elf's reply, likewise private, seethed with laughing resignation. **Old bird, you put my face in the sand and a hide over my head. But, you make a point. Someone ought to stay back. Besides, with all the leaves dead on the ground and trees, I'm a double liability with the noise I'd make and my magic. I'll stay. But you better get something, and feel bad for me every step of the way!** But before he went back to whatever he was doing, he added, his tone serious again. **Yet if something happens and you need me, send, and keep sending. I'll come as fast as I can run. Good hunting, eh?**

Dew showed up shortly after Autumn, likewise in the trees. However, she sat comfortably on a branch instead of leaping to teh ground. Her faithful wolf-bond followed on the forest floor. *You called, Chief* Dew sent cheerfully, not quite sure why she had been called.

Creek Runner arrived from the direction of the beach. He had been enjoying a walk in the open, without anything blocking the sky. *Yes?* he sent when he arrived, short, simple, and to the point. He wasn't sure why he would be called. He had his bow with him, assuming that this was going to be some ind of hunt or search, why else call the known hunters, or who he believed was the hunted. The wolfriders and the cat-elf made perfect sense, be he knew he wasn't as good in the forest setting.

A smirk danced to Savith features as the other's made their entrance, the reason known only to himself and the firestarter, to whom his mind made a reply. **Aye, and to you; Clear Skies,** was the private send across the distance. It was that pleasant Hunter to Hunter undertone that supported the overlying sense of the affirmation of one's duty. Savith would hunt. Blaze would protect. Tomorrow was another day and another Shift Rotation. Mayhap places would be switched and Blaze would be the Hunter and Savith the Protector.
As he sent privately to Blaze, Savith's moss-colored eyes traced over the gathered hunters, noting the lack of Dancer and Starsong. He drwe himself up, giving each a nod of acknowledgement, while a wordless feel of 'hurry up and wait' drifted from him like a subtle cologne. His hair was starting to grow out again, and he pulled parts of it back and out of his eyes. At his hip, sat his coiled talonwhip, that cruel looking silvery bird's claw and rope that was the weapon of the Chosen Eight of Blue Mountain.

Ah Dancer came bounding from the beach riding Fire Bright. Her long midnight hair flew wildly behind her as she called out joyfully, "Here I am!" The big cat halting as she scratched his head behind the ears. "What's the big meeting? Is something wrong?" Blue eyes looked at each elf carefully but also with a wide smile. Dew Paw getting a playful wink.

Savith shook his head lightly, the smirk shifting to almost a grin, at Dancer's entrance. "We need a nice big hunt to have jerky stored for winter. The weather's getting colder, but it's not clear just how cold it will get here, this close to the Vast Deep," he started, eyes scanning about until he realized they were missing their Lead Huntress. In an instant, the grin was whisked away, beaten over the head, and replaced by a scowl. "But, we'll go into the details was everyone gets here," he adds, voice chilling and fading away as his mind reached out to find the wayward huntress.
**STARSONG! We're hunting! Move your flea-ridden rump,** he lashed out at her, mind focused on hers. A tiny sparrow of concern fluttered within: Was she even in sending range?

Dewpaw winked back at Dancer, happy and excited. She had been invited on a hunt, the first hunt as a tribe! The elf cub dropped from teh tree branch and landed gracefully next to Morningtail. "You hear that Morningtail. We get to go on a hunt! We'll bad a big one, won't we. No little ravvits!" She climbed onto her wolf mount and waited, the grin still on her face.

She had been far down on the beach, flipping over shells looking for the small little cream colored pebbles that had suddenly intrigued her fancy. She had found several so far. They were round, and smooth, and a creamy white colored, almost like milk. But in the sunlight, the surface had a rainbow tint to it.
She was often at the whim of the beauty of nature. At her den back in the grove holt father tree, she had glowmoss cultured to grow. It was little things like this, that not many people knew about the solitary huntress.
As she made her way to Savith as fast as she could, she stashed the little pebbles in her hip pouch and arrived fashionably late to where the others stood waiting for her.
Giving Savith a sour look she stopped outside of the small group, leaning forward on Shine to hear what their Chief wanted.

Savith refrained from tapping his toe in impatience, even as his mind silently supplied a number of punishments the Head chosen might inflict on any of the others, should they not Fly when Called. As Starsong loped into sight, the glider returned her sour look with a narrow-eyed frown even as he began to speak.
"I spotted a herd of something, four-legged and big not far from here. They are bigger than no-humps, not as heavy as long-nose, and seem to have manes like bear. I seen something similar once before, but given what I saw of their size and formation, we should be able to drop something with enough meat for us to eat well tonight and have some to smoke for the white-cold."
He turned his gaze to Creek Runner. "You came to us from the Vast Grass-sea. This herd is moving on an open expanse of flat grassland between forest and the hills I think I see further south. In any case, I'd like you with me. I'll get you up, out of the crosswinds, so you can see if they are like anything you've hunted before. If so, you'll call this hunt. If not, we'll figure something out."
"Joy, see if either Dance or Star's bonds can carry you double into the area. If they are like branch-horn, having the extra on foot to spook is going to help."
"Dew, stay with Star and do what she tells you."
"Dancer, I'll need to know how much endurance your bond has while we're on our way, and we'll see if wolf and cat can hunt together."
"We've done good this summer. What with the branch-horns Starsong has brought in, the ravvits and other small game from Dewpaw, and Dancer, and the rest, we're not going to starve this white-cold. But it's not going to be comfortable, if it gets too cold or snowy to continue to hunt, and without knowing the seasons yet, I would much rather us be ready for a hard cold winter, then struck as unawares as the First Comers."
He takes a moment to glance around, "Any questions?"

Somewhere, not too far beyond the hills Savith speaks of, a human group is similarly gathered, planning a similar activity. The lead hunter explains the strategy, while the others listen intently and nod in understanding, hefting their rough weapons in anticipation of the coming hunt.

When no questions seemed forthcoming, the Chosen nodded, and held a hand to CreekRunner. "We'll scout ahead. You three, start making your way over."

Dancer smiled. This was exciting and she was glad Fire Bright got to be involved. She offered Autumn a hand up. She wondered how the wolfrider would like riding on the large cat. Everyone seemed petrified of him. Her mind reached to Savith as she waited. *Fire Bright can stalk and walk a long way. Running he is only good in a short burst. His best attack is suprise.* Joy and anticipation filled the send. She was always happy when everyone seemed happy.

Dancers hand was taken and up Autumn got on the great hairy cat. It was different from a wolf indeed and ridding in the back will be an experience in its self. *Ready when you are healer* was all she said as she gripped around Dancers waist waiting.
