Another day, another walk through the scorching sand heated by the uncaring sun. Dry winds whipped the sands this way and that, lashing any solid object in its path. Currently that object happened to be a coal black mare with golden markings resembling the carvings on the ruins in her homeland. A peculiar visage that seemed to be floating water occurred around the head and rear of the mare, but if one were to look closer, they would realize that this mirage was caused not by the sun, but the burning oxygen that surrounded her main and tail. Yes, the mare was on fire, but seemed perfectly fine with it, as though she was used to it.

The mare sighed, wistfully looking at the horizon. Yellow and brown for miles, not even a cactus breaking through the gritty blanket. She loved the desert, but sometimes she needed to get away from all the heat, she had enough on her head and tail after all. The mountains were nice, so were the forests. But she could easily burn those if she happened to lose control of her emotions. The beach was great, but it was too far to go there regularly.

Another thing about the desert: It was lonely. No one ever really came through here, unless they got lost. That's when her male human came in; Shadow, the Desert Guide. He would guide them out of the desert, give them a map, and send them on their way. A lonely cycle for he and she.

"Ugh, soy aburrido.*" She moaned, standing in place. Complaining about it wouldn't help, but at least she was doing something other than walking.

Edel had been wandering fr a while now, she's gotten herself into a rather adventurous mood and now found herself walking among the sand and heat of a desert. She hadn't gotten herself lost just yet, in fact she had an easy way to finding her lovely forest again. She could just fly on home, even if she didn't exactly enjoy flying on her own. So, to keep that from happening, she would occasionally stop, and evaluate her position and how best to get home, or course she never once turned around. Though she did beat her wings often to create just a bit of wind.

This was all new to her, and she wasn't about to give up her first whim of adventure in ages. That was, until she saw a peculiar shape in the distance. Had she spent too much time in the sun and was now experiencing illusions? Certainly not...she knew how to handle herself, but as she continued to trudge through the sand, the image only became clearer and it was obvious walking in her direction.

First of all, she had to clear up some confusion to herself, she could see, a fact no one knew and she did often try to go on without using her sight, but she had opened her eyes to her light blue blindfold and could see the desert around her. She hadn't wanted to take the risk of being blind for her journey. Of course, it gave the world a different blue tint, and those the mare approaching her seemed simply....bizare.

She took a deep breath, "Excuse me, but are you even real?" She kept herself from getting embarrassed. If this really was an illusion, then she'd sound crazy talking to herself.

Well that wasn't something she was used to being asked. It was usually a "does that hurt?" or "can I touch it?" But she had never been asked if she was real before. Was she real? Well, she couldn't be fake, right? She did have a conscience, memories, nerves. Unless she was dreaming too? But could dreams dream. Ugh, too much information.

"Si. Yes, I am real, I believe. At least I think so..." Pyre trailed off, looking at her own flaming tail. That was real, right? When it touched her, it did hurt. And when other horses nipped at it, they often burnt their tongues, so she supposed it was real.

Looking back to her inquirer, she found a creature that was also quite strange. Was she one of those flutters? But she didn't have butterfly wings...they were more like those of a dragonfly. Was she perhaps a new type of breed? Was she blind? She had a light blue blindfold around her eyes.

"Umm...pardon me, but may I ask un pregunta, a question? Are you...blind?" She blushed, embarassed that she would ever think to ask such a rude question.

"I couldn't have asked a sillier question..." Edel though, mentally nipping at herself for appearing so silly. One thing she didn't like was, over active silly imaginations. Not that she was subject to often retreating into her subconscious mind for a few day dreams every now and then. She also reminded herself of the heat radiating from the sun, she had a reason to wonder if the mare was real, she could easy be hallucinating and that would be bad. Very, very, bad. She shook herself back into reality as the mare posed a question.

A light smile touched Edel's face, one of the most common questions she ever received, and yet, she gave several different answers each time. It always depends on whether she felt she could trust the person or not. "I can see you, not perfectly, but enough to tell you are there and on fire. A bit of an oddity I'd say, but quite interesting." She flicked her own spiked tail and drew a little line in the dirt with her spikes. Her blindfold also helped keep the dust from her eyes, you could never recount all the usefulness of such a thing. However, she refused to answer why she wore it. That information she kept to herself, and no one else.

So she could see, hm? That was strange, why would she wear a blindfold then? If she couldn't see well, then why not wear glasses? Those helped, blindfolds hindered. Horses were strange in this land.

"Er...gracias, thank you?" She didn't know if the flutter dragonfly thing was complementing her or not. "Oddity" sounded like such a harsh word, an "interesting" could mean weird. She couldn't judge her tone, since she still hadn't gotten to used to the land's language. But based on the flick of the tail, she figured she meant it in a kind way.

"Well then welcome to the desert...I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name. What is it, por favor? I mean, please."

Edel nodded, she thought back on what she said and realized her vocabulary might have been a bit too selective. She had meant oddity in a good way, like a nifty trinket you'd find and be so happy you'd discovered it at the perfect time. After all, the mare seemed to live in this harsh climate, so if by any chance Edel did need help getting out, which she was pretty sure she didn't at the moment, then she could surely be of help. "You're quite welcome." She kept a light smile on her face, but shoock her head free of any loose hair.

"I'm known as Edel. Sweet and simple, might I inquire what your name could possible be? Or shall I call you the Flaming Mare for the rest of my visit?" She chuckled just a bit, but then controlled herself better and retreated back to her usual smile.

Pyre gave a slight laugh at Edel's humor, finding her joke to actually be entertaining. It might also have been the fact that instead of her going 'OH MY GOD YOU'RE ON FIRE!' she had been calm about it. She liked a change in how she was approached.

"Oh, Edel, nice to meet you. Unlike yours, my name is quite the long one. They call me Final Pyre All Expired, but just call me Pyre if you wish. Though, if you want, you may call me the Flaming Mare." She giggled again, tossing her head to motion behind her.

"So, what brings you to my lovely little home?"

Edel felt free to let loose now, Pyre obviously was happy to meet someone that wasn't over imaginative about her appearance. She openly smiled, without holding back her emotions now."I'll call you Pyre, it's simpler that way." She nodded.

As for what brought her out here, that answer was pretty boring. "I don't know. I was bored with the forest...so I just kinda wandered a bit and next thing I knew, I found myself here. It's enjoyable for so long, but after a while the heat gets to you. Does the heat ever bother you much?" Of course, the mare practically lived in unbearable conditions no matter where she went, considering her burning mane and tail, but she had to wonder if it really bothered her, or did she get used to it after a while? Like Edel was used to the nibby cold at night, in the forest.

Pyre smiled at Edel, glad to see that the mare was smiling. She liked it when people smiled. Frowns weren't good at all! Smiles were though, smiles were the best gift ever. Of course, shiny golden things were quite nice as well, as were silvery glittery trinkets. Jewels made great gifts as well, rubies the most. A glaze was spread over her face as she thought about such things, and she could only slightly hear Edel.

"Huh, the heat? What...oh! Right, the heat. Of course. Well, no, not of course. The desert's heat is nothing really. After a lifetime of being singed by your own hair, heat just doesn't tend to bother you as much." She trailed off, thinking once again about gems and precious metals. Oh, how she had been adorned while in Mexico. If only she could be there today...

Edel was only slightly offended when the mare seemed to lose track of her mind for a second. She couldn't blame the mare, if she lived in a desert her whole life, or most of it, she'd probably be prone to mind wandering as well. She could see herself now wandering out in the sand for countless hours, day and night. It occurred to her then, that she would have no idea how to entertain herself out here.

"How do you keep yourself busy around here?" She fluttered her wings to make sure she caught the mares full attention again. Edel preferred having complete attention from companions. They caught the light from the unshielded sun and seemed to sparkle brilliantly. Her grin widened, she was sure to catch her attention and hold it better now.
