Destiny: Dakin was destined to be born on Aereus, a planet populated by human-sized anthropomorphic birds of a vast number of species, most known to Earth but some never before seen by humankind. He was to be a sulphur-crested cockatoo named Khalat.

Not long after hatching, Khalat befriended a gyrfalcon named Hkete, a strong and opinionated young bird who was always openly vocal about his beliefs. Khalat greatly admired his friend, especially since their dreams for the future seemed to coincide. The two grew up closer than brothers, but with the onset of adulthood and the surprise arrival of Hkete's first clutch of eggs, Khalat began to notice changes in his friend. Hkete's mate was a blue jay named Llhuee, and while cross-species breeding was possible (obviously) and wasn't illegal by any means, it wasn't exactly smiled upon in certain circles. Particularly adamant in his disapproval of the practice was the future king, Tree Prince Tarak. Khalat didn't really have a strong opinion on the matter.
When Hkete began loudly voicing his newly-realized belief in the importance of family and the societal prejudices he had seen against mixed ones, it wasn't unexpected. Neither was the charismatic bird's growing dislike of nearly everything the prince enjoyed. What was surprising was the day when the Tree Prince came directly to Khalat for advice on silencing the rebellious gyrfalcon. It seemed the childhood friends had grown in recognition over the years, and Tarak did not like to be publicly opposed.
Khalat was never able to put into words what caused him to turn on his best friend, but his subconscious motives became clear to others when he suggested that orchestrating Llhuee's death would be the best way to trip up Hkete. Tarak went one step further, sending out assassins to kill his mixed-breed family too.
With Hkete's voice silenced by grief and the king on his deathbed, Tarak took Khalat on as his top adviser, a position the cockatoo proved to be quite bad at. Khalat was only ever interested in his own well being, unlike the debate-loving birds he had surrounded himself with over his life. Together Tarak and Khalat ran the Tree Kingdom into ruin in favor of their own comfort, leaving thousands to die of starvation and disease. Eventually, they were both murdered by a spy from the Lake Kingdom, a young barn owl posing as a concubine new to Tarak's service.

Dakin prefers loose flowing clothing. He'll also wear any jewelry he gets his hands on, although he likes gold the best.
Personality
The thing that informs Dakin's personality most thoroughly when he's young is the fact that he lacks the ability to tell the truth. This doesn't mean he's some sort of reverse psychic or can't say "I don't know" if he truly doesn't know something, it just means that he can't express things that he knows to be true. Early on he'll have Madeline to introduce him to people and let them know his problem, but if you meet Dakin on his own, prepare to have an interesting time.

Madeline was once Danon Aphis Shaw, a young man with a distinct lack of self control and a passion for controlling others. He lived on the peace-loving Puppet Planet, and as such had three chances to change his evil ways. These chances came in the form of a trio of puppets - Daisy Chain, Happy Jack and Amelia Amore. Daisy and Jack were blamed for Danon's crimes and sent to Gaia as criminals first, emerging from their space pods as full humans rather than fuzzy felt beings. Amelia was sentenced with Danon, and the two arrived on Gaia together, where a young woman named Catey took them in and named them Madeline and Francine before pawning them off on Archie (who was once known as Happy Jack - DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNN). Madi and Franny look enough alike that nearly everyone considers them twins, regardless of who they used to be.
This entire description makes no sense, but it's all you're going to get. Sorry. All that's really important to know is that Madeline is a dude charged with rape who's been stuffed into a teenage girl's body. Doot.

Francine Campinski. She may one day be referred to as Amelia around here, but Madeline is generally protective of her and since Madeline is the only one who would call Francine Amelia and Francine prefers the name Francine, it's unlikely.

Dixie is a quietly humorous sort who admirably tolerates all of the large personalities she's been forced to deal with all her Gaian life. She was taken in by Archie soon after she landed on this planet, so while he's technically her father, they've been the same age for so long now and she's so much older mentally that she's more like his older sister. For most of her existence she was quite the homebody but recently she's been out of the house more and more. Personality
Young enough to still be interested in pool parties for the swimming but old enough to have felt a girl up in the back of a movie theater, Alek is enjoying his young teenhood to the fullest. As one of the few members of the household who can't yet remember who they were in the past, Alek occupies a special place in the world of Not Being Privy To The Whole Truth that he is sure to be kicked out of eventually.

powers
hovering: dakin can hover several feet off of any stable surface. his wings don't support his weight in the conventional sense, but they help him to get from place to place while hovering if he flaps them hard enough.
