She hated it. Kaya had opted to take photographs of the flowers blooming around the park and she had left Abilene in the playground area, full of rowdy kids and sand. Abilene had been hiding under the fort for quite some time now, observing the children playing tag with a look of uncertainty. It almost looked like they were attacking eachother. Besides that, she'd been 'tagged' when she'd tried to escape from underneath the raised play place, something that she had firmly rejected.

And now... the child felt trapped. She didn't want to leave her hiding spot lest the other children bothered her, but she did very much desire to go and play on the swings. That at least looked like something she could do and enjoy. She couldn't understand why Kaya hadn't taken her with her to see the flowers, not comprehending that Kaya had believed she might have had more fun playing with children her own age.

This wasn't all that true, however. Abilene was not excellent at socializing with children her own age, mostly because she tended to consider herself more adult than the rest of them. This had probably come about because Kaya would have normal conversations with her much of the time. She thought she was quite the intellectual, even though it wasn't all that true. Abilene didn't think she was above the other children playing tag; she just didn't understand them.

Spring?

Raina's sweet laugh echoed about the spring scene like a wake-up call, turning the heads of a few small children. Slightly embarrassed, she covered her mouth with a wayward hand and beamed at Enki, who had been grinning with suppressed excitement for the last five minutes. He had been speaking in hushed, happy tones just a moment earlier but now he had fallen silent completely, overcome with the view of the flowers bordering the park.

"Raina, may I...?" he started serenely, squeezing her hand between his webbed fingers.

At that, she giggled, nodding her chin towards the vibrant slides. Before she could even say another word, he had already walked off a little further, his eye caught by something. The writer squinted into the light, catching sight of a small figure underneath the fort. Enki was already on his way.

With an innocuous air, she sat herself down at the bench and was about to shed her sweater when the sweetest flowery scent drifted past her. Immediately, she gave the girl underneath the equipment another glance.

Roses? Gardenia? What was that perfume?

Abilene continued to quietly cower underneath the fort, suffering in silence. Her amber eyes traveled throughout the playground and she crossed her arms over her chest in a defensive movement. Her lips tugged down into a frown as she observed the children who had decided to finally let her be; she was no fun, after all. They certainly thought she was stuck up, and perhaps she was to some extent.

Her eyes continued to wander and she relaxed slightly as a cool breeze washed over her, finally catching the glance of the woman who'd smelled her scent. The Lotus child paused to blink, tilting her head at the curious look she was receiving before very cautiously slipping from under the fort to trod through the sand of the playground toward the bench. Certainly, this was her time to escape!

"Hello," she greeted Raina, not too shy around adults.

Startled out of her writerly thoughts, Raina found herself peering through her thin-rimmed glasses into the curiously colored eyes of the young girl she had seen just earlier. The scent was right in front of her, and she was positive that she had found its origin, only she could now identify it as lotus.

It was strange to her that such a young girl, about Enki's age, would be taken to wearing such flavorful perfume, but of course she said nothing and let her features relax into her usual sweet smile.

"Hello there," she greeted softly, patting the seat beside her quietly with a pale hand. "What were you doing underneath the park?"

Enki, on the other hand, was beginning to lose a bit of his earlier excitement. The sand was adhering itself uncomfortably between his toes and other children, though used to strange creatures in Midori, were keeping their distance from the blue-skinned boy.

He gave a quick glance back at Raina, but she seemed to be engaged in rapt conversation with another girl that he hadn't noticed before.

...what now?

Abilene watched the woman, seating herself on the bench with childlike grace after Raina had patted it. She seemed to ponder her answer for just a moment, finally choosing to speak. "I didn't want to play tag." She explained awkwardly. "And I don't like the playground very much..." The Lotus child confessed softly. It was too dangerous with too much activity all about.

Her gaze flicked around the playground momentarily and she spotted the blue-skinned boy, who looked just as out of place as she had before. It wasn't even his appearance, as far as Abilene was concerned. He didn't look happy with the playground period. That was something Abilene understood all too well...

Raina was indisputably pleased as the girl did as she suggested and positioned herself beside her in a rather elegant fashion. At this proximity, she noticed with a jolt the adorable clothing that clung to her small frame- the white dress with pink accents, the subtle but endearing pink in the platinum of her hair. It really was quite charming.

After the small silence, Raina quirked and eyebrow and nodded understandingly. She had been the same way when she was younger, opting more to sit on the sidelines and write poetry. She still couldn't identify much with people who loved action and speed, so she felt much closer to the young girl on the bench beside her.

"I'm Raina," she announced suddenly, as if it was an absolutely necessity to introduce herself. She looked down and pulled her lips into a smile. "I was just like you when I was younger, I completely understand."

She was about to continue when she noticed her gaze on Enki, who didn't seem as sunshiney as he was just a moment before. With a small smile, she waved him over, the tinkling of her bracelets like a sweet morse code in the crispness of a new spring.

Abilene observed Raina, nodding in awknowledgment at the woman's introduction. "My name is Abilene," She replied, the ghost of a smile playing on her lips. She was glad this person could relate to her; that always helped in situations such as this one. The antisocial child was always fairly happy to meet a kindred spirit, after all; people who liked quiet and calm more than the hectic activities that could occur in everyday life.

The girl glanced to Raina as she gestured the blue-skinned boy over, fairly sure she must know him. It wouldn't be unusual, after all. Since Raina seemed not to enjoy playgrounds much either it made sense that she'd only be here because of someone else's presence.

Abilene. Raina mulled over the name in her head. It was sweet, like nectar. She was instantly and fully aware of its literary power and made a mental note to consider using it as one of her characters in her newest script for Franz.

The girl herself, however, was not as smooth, as perfect. She wasn't eccentrically endearing like Phoenix, though they were around the same age. She seemed more... withdrawn, reserved- hardly like a child. It was something that bothered, though she knew it wasn't in her place to worry. She had hardly met the girl yet, perhaps she would show her colors yet.

"It's very nice to meet you, Abilene," she bubbled calmly, finally catching the glint of a secret smile in the child's eye. She returned the gesture with experienced flourish, pulling back her lips in a grin.

As Enki arrived, he was making a conscious effort to be genteel despite the discomfort in his webbed feet. He offered the girl a serene, accepting smile and raised a hand in greeting, his green eyes flickering over to his guardian for an answer.

"Abilene, this is my... son, Enki," she introduced warmly, gesturing to the blue-skinned boy, who nodded graciously. "Enki, this is Abilene. We just met."

Abilene observed Raina with a benign expression, nodding at the formalities of her introduction. The grin offered by the woman was reassuring at the least, especially to the fairly quiet young girl. She didn't feel she could really help her own nature, although Abilene was slowly getting better at displaying warmth to others.

The lotus child's gaze flicked to Enki as he approached and she waved lightly, making an attempt to be friendly. "Hello," She greeted him shyly, biting her lip. Interaction with children her own age was always a complicated matter for the young girl, but seeing as Enki didn't look too comfortable in the park himself, it was possible she had a shot at friendship.

Deciding that she had done her job for the day, Raina sank back into her chair cheerfully and proceeded to turn her sights elsewhere. If only Cephiel could have come along to see this! He would have loved it. It made her want to write, too. Hopefully the children would get along.

Enki perused the other girl as politely as he could without seeming over-curious. Her hair was a pretty light blonde, streaked with an adorable magenta shade. He tilted his head. Her attire was a bit strange, but just as pretty as the rest of her image. What struck him the most, though, was the peculiar scent that rolled off her almost naturally, like some sort of exotic flower.

She seemed uncomfortable, though, so he made up his mind to be friendly as possible, to maybe see her smile.

"Hello!" he cooed quietly, placing his hands on his hips playfully. "Do you not like the playground much?"

Abilene observed Enki shyly, her amber eyes wide. "Well, the playground is very... lively." The little girl replied uncertainly, knowing full well she sounded odd. She was one of those rarities that preferred sitting down and flipping through a picture book to dealing with the physical rigors of the playground.

"I mean-- I don't like the games they play here." A soft pout curved the youth's lips as she watched other children rolling around in the dirt and laughing like little barbarians. It wasn't that she was higher-than-thou in attitude or anything; she simply didn't understand these children and their differences in interest.
