Nariko sat amongst the leaf litter, nuzzled into the soft roots of an old, strong tree. This was one of her favorite places. The great tree she sat under marked the edge of a small hallow where there was just enough room to exercise with her sword. The green grass was soft underfoot, and the branches of the trees overhead created waves of dappled slight upon the ground that made everything shimmer and gleam. Nariko closed her eyes and took deep, calculated breaths, calming her mind and slowing her heart. Her sensei had told her that to meditate, she would have to think of absolutely nothing and just about everything all at once. He told her first to concentrate on not thinking about anything, and it was tough. But Nariko was determined to do it, and she composed herself, slowly falling into a deep meditative state. Almost no one came by here, so she was almost sure she wouldn’t be disturbed…

The gentle dappled light flitting through the trees reflected off the a small elaborate key as Chastity padded his way through the deep forest. He had never come in this deep before, his adoptive mother and father rather strict about how far he should go exploring. He just hoped he didn't run into any of his brothers or sisters...he didn't want to get in trouble. The deep forest had always interested him though. Not many traveled here and he wouldn't have to get to close to anyone. For some reason he simply didn't like to be touched or get to rambunctious with the other pups.

The soft blue light emanating from his intricate key was always one of his favorite things to watch in the dimly lit forest. Yet...for some reason the light was glinting off of something other that his own harness and key. How curious. His little paws picked up in speed as he headed in the direction of the reflecting light. Perhaps he had discovered some treasure?

As he neared the object he noticed the trees thinning out and forming a small hollow where the branches and leaves of a great tree canopied the area. Somehow he could sense that there was something serene..quiet about this place. The quiet sound of his of his key hitting the chain suddenly seemed very loud here. Chasti looked back towards the reflecting light and noticed the object leaning against the massive tree trunk. He also thought that he heard breathing..but perhaps that was just his own. His inquisitive little eyes looked over the long and shiny object with a pretty blue handle. It looked like it could be very sharp so he made a not not to get too close.

Nariko slowly let her body relax, muscle by muscle. First she let her tail go limp, then her back legs, her torso, and then her front legs. Lastly, after taking a few deep breaths, Nariko relaxed her neck and face so that she could feign the blankness of sleep while keeping the consciousness of being awake. Soon Nariko felt it was time to being blocking out all distracting feelings and sounds. Her nose itched for only a moment before she drove the annoyance out of her mind. Nariko quieted the hard beating of her heart in her ears, and became fully aware of her surroundings. After a moment of reflection on what it felt like to be part of the earth, Nariko began to block out the sounds of the forest. The whisper of the wind, the chirping of birds, the rustle of grass, each sound had to be carefully tuned out until there was no more. Finally she was able to reduce the sound around her to a dull throb in her mind. And, just as she was about to completely erase all traces of the forests noise from her thoughts, a slight tinkling filled her ears. It was an annoyance, quite like the itching of her nose earlier, and Nariko began tuning it out as she did with all other noises, but, it just wouldn’t leave! If anything, the sound was getting louder! She growled in the back of her throat and tried to hang on to the blankness she had been striving for, but it was slowly slipping away.

The soft blue light emanating from Chastity's key began to glow brighter as the pup looked at the sharp object inquisitively. His little eyes noticed the glow upon the object even more now and looked down at his key wondering why it could possibly be glowing brighter all the way out here. Wasn't he the only one in this hollow? He slowly began to back away from the object upset at himself for not being more careful when he had ventured into this place. His little nose rose into the air and he sniffed a few good times. He could smell the forest, the birds...the few mushrooms...and..."ohhh noooooo." Chastity groaned as he caught the scent of another dragonfly and slowly shook his head causing his key to tink even louder. He began to slowly back out of the hollow his eyes wide and alert when he heard a growl. he paused uncertain of whether the correct course would be to growl back or not...but then again he didn't want to meet this dragonfly in the first place.

Nariko stirred and sighed, it was too late to gain her concentration back now, her mind was slipping out of the dark. With a small moan, Nari’s eyes fluttered open and she stretched slightly looking around herself with slight annoyance mix with irritating curiosity. She was annoyed that someone had the audacity to interrupt her meditation, even though she was pretty sure it was an accident. But, Nariko was also rather curious about that sound she had heard; the clinking had sounded like metal, and the only metal Nariko knew about was the metal that made up her sword. She stood up and shook her fur out to remove some of the moss that got stuck to her while she was attempting to meditate. Nariko then looked about herself and smiled as she saw a small shining form retreating from the hallow. She cocked her head and called out, “Um… hello there! Where do you think you’re going? You just got here!” She also added in her head, and you interrupted my meditation, so you may as well stick around…

Chastity cringed as the other dragonfly called out to him. He had been seen. He looked about the hollow more carefully and spotted the pup that had spoke to him. The soft glow of his key began to intensify slightly as he realized that it was girl. Girls...they always wanted to get so close. He paused in his escape attempt and wondered if she would actually let him leave. Probably not...and his mother would tell him later that leaving was rather rude. She always wandered why he didn't like to be around others...but she let him be himself.

He shuffled his feet a little and sighed. "Um...well I was really just passing through...I..well i saw your shinny thing over there and thought it was interesting."

Nariko quirked an eyebrow and blinked with slight curiosity. The other pup looked like he hadn't wanted to be noticed. He looked like he just wanted to turn and walk away! Nariko could tell, she could, he just... didn't look happy to be where he was. Of course, then again, why WOULD he be happy? Here he was just minding his own business, and I was actually hard-headed enough to call him back? I don't want him here either, so why in the world did I tell him to stay?! Nariko sighed, sometimes she wished she could think about these things a little bit sooner. With a shrug at Chastity's comment, Nariko replied, "You can go ahead and look at my 'shiny thing' if you want. Its a sword. Careful not to touch it though, it's really sharp. I've had it since I was born and I STILL cut myself on it sometimes..." She nodded her head over to the tree that her sword was leaning against. It was only a couple tail lengths away from her. Nariko liked having her sword close enough so she could reach quickly, but far enough so that she couldn't hurt herself on it if she had to make any sudden movements.

Her face remained completely bland as she stared at the boy's own shiny thing on the sly. Nariko was curious about it, but she didn't want him to know it. She coughed slightly and said in the most uninterested voice she could muster, "And... it would seem you have a 'shiny thing' too. But I don't know what it is... what is it called?" Nariko liked learning new things, but she really hoped this pup would not be one of those bratty know-it-all's that tried to make themselves seem superior if other Dragonfly didn't know something.

"A..a sword? So that's what its called. I've never really seen anything like it before." Chastity slowly and begrudgingly walked back towards the sword but maintained a decent distance from the female at all times. His darn key was pulsing again and it seemed that she had caught a glimpse of it. It soft blue glow usually caught others attention and sometimes Chastity wished that it would just stop glowing. Though those wishes were few and far between. He loved the light and thought it was interesting...and it made him unique...but still. "Oh.." he looked sown at it wondered what exactly he could say it was. Yes it was shiny...and yes it was key. However neither he nor his parents knew why it was there. "Its..its just a glowing key I guess."

Nariko smiled slightly and leaned back against her tree, the company was not that horrible after all. Then again, he did seem rather stiff. But anyways, Nariko just shrugged it off and sighed mentally, it wasn't her position to pester a pup she barely knew about why he did what he did. So she just replied to the boy's interest by saying, "Yes, a sword. A weapon of sorts, or an extension of the body for a good swordswoman, or man. It can be deadly and harmful, but in the hands of some one worthy, a sword can be wielded correctly and that turns it from deadly to life saving and from harmful and helpful..."

Nariko had repeated exactly word for word what her sensei had told her when he had first presented her with her sword. He had also told her to learn about everything others had to teach her, and at this point, Nariko burned with curiosity about that key, though she kept the feeling locked deep in her head. All she let herself say on the subject of the key was, "Oh, it is a very pretty key then. You seem to like it a lot... is that why it glows?" Nariko though that maybe the key glowed because the boy liked it so much that it reflected his feelings. Her master had told her if get connected enough to anything, that it will begin to copy your deepest emotions, maybe that was what the boy and key were doing.

"An extension of your body...it must be very interesting to learn how to use it." Chasti wondered if he would ever be able to have a sword, but something about having a weapon made him uneasy. He didn't want to hurt df's...and weapons brought trouble...and trouble usually meant being around others. He looked back down towards his key as she made her own assumptions on its purpose. Sometime he and his mother did so...just for fun. She had even called it the key to his heart once, but he still didn't know what that meant. "Like I said...I'm not really sure why it glows. I guess that could be why...i mean I do like it...but I'm not really thinking about it when it glows."

Nariko smiled and nodded slightly, "Yes... swordplay is very interesting. It will take a lot of intensive training and hard work to master it, but I am willing to do it..." She then sat back a little and watched the boy to see how he reacted to her comments about his "key". Wow... he... really doesn't know what it is for, or what it does... Nariko thought to herself, rather bewildered. But, she did not let it show and instead kept her placid smile on her face as she replied, "Isn't it... a little scary? Not knowing what something does or what it is for...?"

Nariko then laughed and continued, "I don't mean to be rude, that isn't my intention at all. But, I mean... a sword is a scary thing when it isn't used correctly or when the user doesn't know how to treat it. My sword used to be scary, but now that I know about it, it is more like a part of me than any other part of my body... but you..." Nariko pause and thought for a moment before continuing, "You don't know much about your key, and I don't mean this offensively, it is just an observation. So... as I was saying... since you don't know much about it... doesn't it get a little scary sometimes when it... you know... does things you don't expect it to do?"

Chasti was taken aback by the female's comments. He had never considered the fact that he new nix to nothing about his key and harness as a scary or threatening thing. His mother had always insisted that all would reveal itself in good time...and nothing horrible could ever come from something so beautiful. Yet...what if his mother was wrong? What if his key had some hidden dark purpose that he didn't know about? His eyebrows furrowed and he tilted his head a little confused. "I...well..no I never thought of it that way...but I guess if I've never feared it before...why start now? I mean...nothing bad has happened so far...I ..I think it protects me more than anything..."

Nariko smiled and shrugged, "It is your "key", and from what I understand you have had it your entire, albeit short, life. So your opinion of it is worth more than anything I say. I was actually simply curious to as to how you feel about it." Nariko found the boy's company pleasant, as compared to some of the other dragonfly she had to put up with on a constant basis. He was a interesting kid, maybe they could be friends! Nariko shook her head slightly and cleared her mind of those thoughts, I mustn't get attached. Friends are nice, but they will ultimately hold me back from the goals I wish to achieve. Acquaintances are sometimes worth more than friends, that is what my sensei would have told me if he were here. I think... maybe he wouldn't have... She sighed mentally but did not let her conflicted emotions show on her face, looking weak was not something she wanted to do. Instead Nariko coughed slightly and continued, "Protect you? How interesting... Who knows what hidden uses it may have. It's kind of exciting, if you aren't afraid of hidden knowledge..."

Chastity tilted his head a little again as her behavior seemed a little inconsistent. The shaking of her head and subtle coughing. he wondered if she was silently making fun of him. "Well...I'm not afraid...I think that it would be great to discover new things about it...but then again its all right if I don't. It may seem slightly weird to some people but I love its glow and somehow it just seems right to me. Like its supposed to be there...ya know?" He blushed a little not sure if he was making sense.

Nariko listened quietly and intently as the boy revealed more information about himself and that key. She blinked with surprise at his description and without even thinking about what she was about to say she blurted out, "So, if it feels like is is supposed to be there, does it feel like a limb or something? Like... if you lost it would you feel the same as if you lost an arm or your tail?" Nariko frowned and looked at her sword, wondering the same thing. If.... if I lost it... would I feel like that? Would I feel broken? I don't know... and I hope I never have to find out...
