"Haaa..." Since the recent storm and flooding of his tiny cave, Hak'Zhakuu had taken to the roving life again. No sense in waiting for a pride to come to him in the end, he supposed. He might as well get out there and find them on his own. He was worried. Of late the burning need for action against his fellows had dimmed in his heart. Was the storm a sign he was falling from the favor of the gods? Perhaps he had not acted soon enough. Thus he was off again, hunting for his 'home'.

The scent of borders caught the air and wafted to his searching nose. The sky was still bleak, and the earth stank of wetness and mud, bet even still he could catch the smell of another pride. Was it his? No, the smell wasn't right. But perhaps they had seen those he sought, or would know of a pride recently moved.

He made his way towards the direction of the scent, though he was careful not to trespass. "Hello!" He called into the land. "Is anyone about? I fear I need directions!"

Devya was out practicing his hunting. He'd caught a hare and was currently holding the poor creature in its mouth. He was so absorbed in his kill that he did not catch the scent of a stranger coming closer, therefore Devya jumped at the sudden voice.

The stranger was very close to where he lay behind a bush, but Devya was sure he had not been seen. He looked at the male and dragging the hare with him stepped out from behind the bush. He looked up at the male dropping the hare beneath his small body and grinned. "I'm here and your in Matembezi'Wasakaji."

Devya smiled at the bright male, he liked meeting others who were bright like he was, even if he was very dark too. "Well actually, I guess we are in the rogue lands, the pride is just a bit that way." Devya motioned to the land way in the opposite direction of the volcano where he knew the demons to be.

Devya smile, "I'm Devya."

Hak turned immediately at the rather small sounding voice. A cub? Goodness, what was a youngster doing so far out? A glance at the hare told the tale well enough. Hunting. Still, for one so young he seemed rather brave. Almost overly so.

"A pleasure, young sir." Hak dipped in a practiced but small bow, one suitable to being from an elder to a youth. "I am Hak'Zhakuu. The Matembezi'Wasakaji, hmm?" He pondered over the name. Was it one he knew? No, no, likely not. Still...

"I was wondering if you could give me directions? Or maybe you should get your mother, small one." He meant no offense, of course. Someone with more traveling experience would know better where he needed to get to, likely.

Devya smiled at the male and bowed back. He found he liked the new comer already. "Its a pleasure to meet you too Hak zha kuu," said Devya fumbling slightly with name. Everyone in his pride thus far had simply names that were easy to pronounce.

Devya gave him a slight frown when he asked for direction, but farrowed his brow when told to get his mother. Currently he did not know where she was, but he knew she was doing pride duties, just as he would when he was older.

"My momma is busy right now doing important things for the pride, but I can try to give you directions. Where are you trying to go?"

Hak offered a faintly sly smile at the trouble the boy had with his name. He didn't bother to correct him though, it was quite a strange title for these lands. Of course, he'd taken to using it as his name...

"Indeed? Well I'm not sure even she would be able to help me. I'm not sure where I'm going myself, you know. An old pride that was...somewhere. I think it was south and west of here, but I'm not sure. It was called 'Fhura'Nche' but I don't think many have heard of it. No one I've asked of late knows of it."

Of course, when he'd left the pride it had been large and well known. Perhaps disease or disaster had caused it to fall into the shadows of the world's mind, but it had been known far and wide once. There was a chance some still knew about it.

Devya nodded at Hak, "Yes, she is the commander of our pride and she talks to other prides to make them our, um our alleys ... no um allies. To make them our allies. Our pride is new and we are suppose to protect other from the evil's of the savannah."

Devya thought on the pride name Hak had given. He had not heard any mention from any other his pride of a pride with that name. Currently he was really only certain of one other pride in the area. The Aikanaro’hini pride who lived dangerously close to the volcano.

"I have not heard of any pride with an name. Sorry. I only know of the pride by the volcano and my own pride. Though I probably would have heard of it if they were there. I'm sure my pride would seek them out as allies unless of course they are a cruel pride. I hope that they are not."

Devya smiled, "Is there anything else I can do for you?"

Hak couldn't help but chuckle at the boy. So young, he'd always found cubs of that age to be both endearing and frustrating...

"Sounds like a noble pride, keeping others safe. Will you grow up and do battle as well?" It was a shame the boy didn't know of his home pride, but he hadn't thought he would. It seemed they'd fallen from the face of the earth as it was.

"Heh." He couldn't help but laugh. His home a cruel place? Some would argue it was not, but he knew better. "Well there certainly is no place like my home...I hope your pride one day might meet them." To become enemies or allies it was yet to be seen. Either way Hak felt he would be pleased.

"Something else? Hmm..." A thought crossed the lions mind then and he nodded. "The leader of your pride...she is a fine lioness, gold and red and black, yes? How is she...?" A mix of caring and guilt welled up in him, and he scowled in spite of himself.

Devya grinned at his pride being called noble, he was happy that someone else saw the good in his pride. However, he frowned slightly at the males question about doing battle.

Devya shook he his head, no he knew that was not his place, not his calling, even if he would be well suited for it. "No, I will not fight. I am going to be hunter, the best in all the lands. I can already catch rabbits quite well and hopefully I will try bigger prey soon. I have even been offered special training. My mother and sister agree, I will be the best."

Devya although very obediant was an extremely driven cub and did his best to train within the confines of the pride rule and his mother's warnings. When the conversation changed to Hak's pride Devya grinned taking the words and a good way, "I hope that we will meet them as, well I am sure if they are like you than mother will find them to be great allies."

Devya was shocked for a moment when it appeared Hak was talking about his own mother, but he'd said gold and he was certain their was no female of those colors in his pride. He wondered if the male was mistaken. "My mother is the leader, the Commander of the Matembezi'Wasakaji, but she has no gold. She is red, black and white. She is fine, doing her best to learn the lands, care for me and my sisters, watch over the pride and make allies," said Devya in one breathe.

Devya had no idea that in the future, his mother and the female Hak spoke of would meet and make alliances. By that time he would be lost in the rogue lands, to later be scooped up into the pride the red, black, and gold female saught to irridicate, the demons. He'd become one of those from which the two prides wished to protect the lands.

Hak nodded at the boy. "Aaah a hunter. Those are always valued. Fighters are important when there are foes to be fought, but not in peace...you'll make a fine one, I'm sure. You must be fast to catch rabbits." His smile soured a bit (though not enough to be noticeable to such a young child) thinking of his pride. Would they be good allies? Perhaps. It had always been a proud, strong pride. If 'rich' had been a word he knew to describe their status he would have used it, but as lions had no concept of money, he could not. Outwardly they were grand, but the rife underbelly of the pride was rank and sweltering with scum. Few outsiders saw that part though.

Ah, so he'd had the child's alliances crossed. A shame. "My apologies, I must have gotten my lions crossed." He chortled a bit. "Your mother sounds like quite the lady herself though." He was half relieved it wasn't her...half sad that it wasn't. He felt a terrible guilt over that one night of weakness, and he at least wondered after her...he would not ask again though, in the future.

Devya smiled brightly at hearing the compliment Hak gave to him. "Thank you sir. I am, I am. I am very fast, but I guess it helps that I am a bit larger than the average cub. My mom's pretty big too."

Devya frowned at the momentary silence but grinned again when Hak spoke. "Its okay. Do you travel a lot. It must be hard to remember all the faces you meet along they way. Probably even harder to remember all the names."

Devya jumped up excitedly at the compliment given to his mother. "Thank you Hak, sir. I'll be sure to tell her. And your right she is wonderful. She loves me and my sisters a lot. Do you have any cubs Hak sir? Do you love them lots like my mommy loves my?"

Devya sat back and waited for Hak to answer his questions. He liked the new lion and found it fun and exciting to talk to him.
