A cool midnight breeze flitted through Maktiel's long tangled locks as he ducked through the many brittle tree branches on the path back to his Den. His heavy claws scratched into the dry cracked ground, a small frown pulling down at the corners of his lips. A growl was steady and constant at the back of his throat. Maroo was going to get it when Maktiel made it home. Earlier that day, the curious Corn baby had ran off with no warning into the forest on it's own little trek to catch a butterfly. Willow had waited a hour before telling the Pan'lun that his air-headed companion had wandered off and probably gotten lost in the large forest that Maktiel called his home. Maktiel had followed the corn baby's soft footprints through the dirt which, after three hours, curved exactly at one point and headed straight back towards their home. Maktiel was about a hour away from their home, the tall thick tree branches keeping him from taking flight to make his journey faster. Maktiel's bright green eyes glanced up at the sky. He could hardly see the moon, through the thick, slumbering branches. A shiver suddenly made it's way down his spine, as he felt the air around him cool dramatically. Maktiel froze, stopping and listening for any hint of reason around him. What was happening?

A couple of yards away, Mabaiah, strolled through the woods on her nightly walk. She stood tall and proud, walking a moderate pace, letting the cold aura she possess freeze the ground below her feet enough so she didn’t sink into it. She shook her head letting her long navy hair blow in the breeze. However, Baridi, her loyal companion was mangled up in her hair at the top of her head, but it didn't seem to bother her. she smiled and began humming a soft haunting melody that went through a series of crescendos and decrescendos as the notes swirled and danced around the creaking trees.
Baridi uncoiled himself from her hair and scurried down her neck. The sticky pads on his feet sent chills through her body and she shivered, “What‘s that for Baridi? You seemed so comfortable up in my hair.”
He remained silent scanning the woods for something… anything, "My dear, i believe we are not alone in this woods..."
"Baridi… Don‘t you think I‘ve outgrown your little ghost stories?" she asked while continuing along the path, “You‘re probably seeing a coyote or something.”
"No no my dear, I'm thinking on a much bigger scale..." he whispered as his tired teal eyes tried to fix on objects in the dark.
She slowed to a halt and looked into the woods, “So, what do you think you see?” she sighed trying not to make it sound like she’s buying into his little story.
He shook his head, “I don‘t know… just keep your eyes open, alright?” he pleaded as he shuffled back into her hair.
She giggled and continued walking, Silly Baridi… he finally gave up. Guess he realized I wasn’t going to fall for it this time. She thought to herself as she started the melody over again.

Maktiel glanced around himself, looking for any suspicious dark figures. Snap Green eyes snapped to the left of him, where the noise had come from. A large dark shadow passed his still figure, unknowing of his being. A sharp tang of cold crept up his spine, making Maktiel shiver. 'I wonder...' He thought, turning his body slowly as to not attract the creature's attention. Maktiel crouched down low to the ground, silently approaching the unaware being. He followed it silently, waiting for a chance where the forest's top would allow enough moonlight to sneak in to give him a clue as to what was disturbing Maktiel's weather. "There." Maktiel whispered, his words softer then the pitter of the creature's feet. A clearing in the branches laid up ahead, the full moon's light shining down onto the forest floor. Maktiel held his breath as the creature stepped into the light. 'It's a Pan'lun.' He observed, taking in it's appearance. Maktiel licked his lips as he furthered his observation. "Female." he mumbled out, uncaring at this point if she heard or not. Maktiel rose to his full height, straightening all four of his legs out. Twigs caught and shattered upon coming in contact with his tough horns.

She stepped into the glittering light of the moon, her glistening navy hair blowing in the soft breeze whispering through the tree tops. she faced the moon and smiled, "It's a gorgeous night, Baridi. Care go to flying?"
The lizzard slid back up her spine and rested on the left side of her neck, "I can barely tolerate your walking, let alone flying... You know how sick i get." he turned around to see a tall p'an lun male rise from his hiding spot, "There."
Mabaiah turned to see twig like horns meshed with messy brown hair and bright green eyes. she turned a little more and shuttered, "Who is it? a male..."
Baridi shivered and slid up into her hair, "I don't know but i would be cautious..."
Mabaiah stumbled backwards and into the cover of the woods. she timidly hid in a large bush and awaited orders from Baridi who scurried off to go see if the strange stalking p'an lun is safe or not.

Maktiel watched in amusement as the female stumbled around a bit when her small slimy salamander companion announced his presents. The girl probably wouldn't last a day in the wild without the lizard to guide and take care of her. A predator would have stuck before she would have even detected his whereabouts. 'But then, I'm a predator, am I not? Why didn't I take her down when I could easily do so? Oh yes. That wouldn't be as fun.' Maktiel thought, a smirk lifting the corner of his lips. He wasn't interested in eating her, that was for sure. She had a decent amount of meat on her bones, yes. But he wasn't really hungry, and there was so many other things that Maktiel could think of that would entertain him more then a full stomach. Maktiel watched as the small blue Salamander made it's way up to him. Even though Maktiel was sure that the lizard couldn't do anything to harm him, Maktiel narrowed his eyes and dug his claws into the ground. He waited silently for the Salamander to speak.

"Out for a stroll?" Baridi grumbled, His scratchy high pitched voice making more of a squeak. he scurried up a tree and climbed out on a branch to be level with the Males face, "what business do you have following My lady?" he growled, taking the offensive.
Mabaiah's orangish yellow eyes sparkled in the shade of the bushes, 'the damned fool is going to get himself eaten... He's been with me since i was an egg; Please don't eat him sir... please.' she thought, somehow thinking the message could reach him without being vocalized.
She got up the courage to peek over the bushes and make a small attempt to leave the bushes; partly from curiosity, and partly from fear that her slimy cold friend would be eaten.
Baridi kept his teal eyes fixed on the males trying to pick up any motive he might have.

One of Maktiel's eyebrows raised at the small creature's tone. Was he really serious? His questions amused Maktiel, almost to the point of having to smother a chuckle. Maktiel cleared his throat, breathing out warm air from his mouth into the face of the Salamander. "Business? What business in these woods isn't mine?" Maktiel raised his head slightly making sure that the creature was eye level to his teeth. "You and you're female are on my territory. And it seems like you have caused quite the ruckus." Maktiel grumbled, tilting his head slightly to point towards the bush that the girl was hiding behind. The leaves had wilted and were covered with frost, sucking any life that Maktiel's presents had left in it out. "I don't appreciate that." Maktiel's green eyes flickered up to the female's face as she peeked out of the bushes. "Would you like to know what I do with trespassers?" Maktiel took a step towards the bush, ignoring any hassle that the Salamander might try to start. He wasn't going to talk to some small brained familiar.

Mabaiah, though trembling, rose to her full height, "I don't see what the problem is...We've walked through here many times. However, i can see that you are deeply disturbed by our presence. So, I shall collect my sharp-tongued friend there, and we shall take our leave..." she swallowed hard and began her path past the intimidating and incredibly territorial P'an lun.
Baridi hissed at the males rudeness, but didn't reply since he could tell he wasn't being taken seriously. Baridi scurried back down the tree and traveled as fast as his little sticky legs would carry him, to meet his companion half way.

Maktiel almost growled at the thought of someone being in his woods multiple times without his knowing. The large Pan'lun stepped into the girl's path as she tried to make her way by him. There was no way that she was getting out of this freely. "What makes you think that I'm just going to let you leave?" He controlled everything in these woods. They were his own. No one would leave or come unless he made it so. And when something like this happened and someone leaked through, it was his responsibility to take care of it... In anyway that he deemed fit.

she snarled and stepped back lowering her head slightly. ice began to coat the ground, and the breeze blew more violently and had a bite to it.
Baridi scurried through the male's legs and onto his Mebaiah's back, "Listen love, Let's just get out of here... If we make it home there's nothing more to worry about." his voice was a mere whisper in her hear, and more of a plea than anything else.
Completely ignoring Baridi she narrowed her eyes and growled, "Then what is it you request of me? i have nothing of value on me..."

Maktiel let out a barking laugh. Did she really think that those elements could effect him? He could do the same exact thing. Maktiel's eyes flickered close for a second before snapping open again. The Ice on the ground softened into slush, and the breeze fell into the soft caress that it was moments before. The air warmed into a comfortable temperature. He heard the trees around him groan in delight as the elements were lightened. A spark of anger flashed in Maktiel's eyes now that everything had fallen back to the way it was supposed to be. How dare she? "You're lucky that you don't have anything." Maktiel spit, his sharp fangs flashing behind his lips. "But then. I can still think of something," Maktiel trailed off, letting his eyes wander over her furry pelt. "Why don't we-" Maktiel was cut off as a short, dark figure threw itself onto his back. Maktiel let out a low growl, throwing a plump corn baby off of his back. "Marooooo~" The Corn baby squealed, giggling as it was thrown into the air by it's master. 'Idiot.' Maktiel thought. Maroo had the worst timing.

Mabaiah jumped at the sudden comic relief and smiled seeing the corn baby, "Awww, He's so cute." she cooed, wanting to cuddle the little guy, but knowing to keep distant due to his vicious owner. she noticed the faint squeaky whisper, pleading to escape this dangerous situation, but once again brushed it past her on the slight hunch that he wouldn't do anything threatening around the cute little familiar.

Maroo turned it's attention from his master to the rather stunning Painter that he was with. The little corn baby started giggling as though it's own personal lolly pop was just presented to him. He ran up to the Panlun, ignoring Maktiel's warning growl, and latched onto her leg. It had been quite some time since they had had company, and the Corn baby would be nothing but insistent that they stay with them over night. "Roo!" Maroo demanded to his master tugging at the girl's front leg. Maktiel glared at his companion not surprised in the slightest at the little familiars actions. He just had to jump in a ruin the moment.

Mabaiah smiled at the fact that the corn baby had been so loving to her, but when he started pulling her toward the large, frighting p'an lun male she hesitated, "Uhh, I-I'm sorry little one, but i don't feel comfortable getting too close to him... we're not exactly on good terms with him..." she stuttered as she inched in the direction the little corn baby had been pulling her.
Baridi hissed and slithered off of her back, "Stay put lady... I'll go get Kiyoshi and he'll come save you in no time."
Mabaiah glanced over her shoulder and tried to stop Baridi from leaving, "You can't go and leave me here.... alone..." she whimpered as she saw her companion dodge her foot and slither off into the woods. she slowly turned and met the p'an lun's eyes, "Oh dear...." she gasped as she lowered her head and tucked her tail close to her body.
(Small note... I'm not going to bring Kiyoshi in... and i don't know if i'll bring Baridi back... Akuma might just take a liking to him. ^^')

Maroo frowned slightly as the little Salamander scurried off. There went another potential playmate... Ah well. Maroo turned back to the situation at hand and continued to pull the female in the direction of their home. He knew that Maktiel would follow along, loudly. Of course, he didn't want any stray, unknown painter near their home and woods but Maroo was getting bored! He wanted a new friend.
Maktiel growled seeing Maroo literally drag the girl towards his home. He'd let the Corn baby have his fun now, but if she made any wrong move... 'Eh, lighten up.' A voice spoke in Maktiel's head, from his Ent, Autumn. The familiar spoke again, 'She looks nice enough, and has a rather gentle personality. Be nice to her and I doubt that anything bad will happen.' "So..." Maktiel started, watching as the female jumped at his voice. He was supposed to be nice to her, yet she had already made her own assumption of his attitudes. Where should he start? Her name! "May I ask you for your name? Mine is Maktiel."
